Ganz nett gemacht.
Daumen hoch, weil kompetenter Sci-Fi-Horror.

I went running from the first two straight into the brick wall that was this game.
I recommend finding a guide and playing around with FOV and camera sensitivity (and we thought DS1 had dated controls)
The biggest personal gripe is how the necromorphs spawn in right on top of you, unlike the first two where it builds this foreboding atmosphere and you are hoping you are quick enough to get them before they get to you, I keep finding myself in practically hand to hand combat with these things and need to change gears from horror to shooter.
Is that bad? Well it's different

Yet, I still found plenty of fun playing with friends that helped me look beyond the frustrations of the imbalanced single-player encounters, micro-transactions, and lack of awareness of the roots of the series in horror. I can only recommend this game to be played with friends, do not purchase for the single-player experience unless it is on sale.

EA hate was at an all time high. Micro-transactions were picking up steam. Gamers were sick and tired of forced multiplayer/co-op; allegedly to stop or delay trade-ins. Many developers were chasing CoD sales figures, with publishers routinely saying a game had 'under-performed' despite selling one million+ copies. People felt it was leading to a homogenisation of genres with survival horror, still considered somewhat niche back then, often taking the brunt of 'modernisation'.
So, with this maelstrom hanging over the gaming scene, DS3 was nearing completion and details about the game were regularly sending people into frothing-at-the-mouth rages. Everything was assumed to be implemented in the worst possible way. The main things were:
1: You can pay to get resources to upgrade with? IT'S PAY TO WIN! The core experience will be frustrating and unenjoyable unless you reach into your wallet! Screw EA!
- I played on the hardest difficulty and found all necessary resources to upgrade in order to 'keep up' with the increasing toughness of enemies. I never had to grind. Can you buy everything in one playthrough, max things out and become godlike? No, but that's survival horror for you. In fact, I don't remember maxing all gear in the other two games either.
2: Co-op? You can crouch? Human enemies? THEY'VE TURNED IT INTO GEARS OF WAR!
- The game has a handful of co-op-only missions which I never played. Despite that, the game is still the biggest of the three games by some margin.
- You can crouch but its only use is to make yourself a smaller target when fighting human enemies. Speaking of which, out of my 17 hour playthrough I think the total amount of time fighting human opponents was less than an hour and it was spread over several sections. It's pretty rare. It's just there to give a brief change of pace and move the story along. So no, it's not Gears or CoD. It's still DS.
3: Universal ammo? THEY'VE WATERED DOWN THE MECHANICS! Ammo is now meaningless and I don't have to think.
- Well, the game has waaaaay more weapons and combinations than the other two games. Depending on what you make and store, and what choice of weapon you decide to use given the environment/enemies, it'd be an absolute pain to keep a multitude of ammo types and keep going back to swap them in and out your inventory. It would detract from the game, I feel. Besides, ammo is still important to think about as, for example, a rocket uses much more ammo per shot so if you miss, it hurts more. Flamers literally burn through ammo. So there are still decisions for the player to make about how to expend it all and how much to carry.
So, as for the game itself.
Well, as mentioned, it's much larger but it didn't outstay its welcome. I believe the reason is because of the variety in the game. Variety of environments, weaponry and pacing. Some might argue that having such variety goes against the a DS game but you can't have 16 hours of corridors. Well, you could, but keeping it interesting would be more difficult. I think variety is why I would replay this game more than the other 2, though it's a tough choice between this and the original.
The game starts with a bang and an admittedly non-Dead Space like first section but it's just there to familiarise the player with the controls, establish the story/setting and is pretty brief. After that, most of the game plays like a combination of the first two games.
Creepy derelict ship corridors and jump scares? Check. Occasional set-pieces to increase the drama and move the story forward? Check. The game really does play like its forebears but then adds more by having that variety.
For example the number of enemy types was excellent and continues right up to the last section of the game. It's not simply visual changes either. Even among humanoid enemies, there are subtle differences to attacks and behaviour. The weapon building mechanic was enjoyable and fun; finding a new combo and crafting upgrades was satisfying and gave a real sense of progress.
There's a wide range of environments that are well-designed and visually striking in their differences. The beginning sees you in a futuristic city, its back alleys and a window lined office block set against the backdrop of an almost blood-red sunset. Next the aforementioned 'space hulks' are interspersed alongside outdoor space sections (that are accompanied by an excellent piece of music that I found evocative of the Alien film series) before you move on to a snow-drift covered planet that has various building interiors, caves and mines. I won't spoil the last section's locations.
There are side-quests, with a couple of real standouts that tell a little story all of their own, as well as providing a stronger challenge with the rewards being a large crate of resources.
The story of the necromorphs takes a much bigger place in this game than DS2 and its handled pretty well. Don't get me wrong, I don't play games like this for the story but I still appreciated the sense of discovery. You unravel the history of events hundreds of years before and come to understand the sheer scale of what the necromprph menace represents and how long it has been present. Whilst I wouldn't say the story was imaginative, it was competently told and added to my enjoyment of the game and the lore of the series.
The challenge of the game is on par with the previous two entries. Sound, music and graphics are marginally better in the way you might expect for the third game in the series...at least on PC.
So, though I'm in a minority saying this, I put this game 2nd in my ranking of the series, though I love them all :)
The first game is still the best but the variety of this one makes it an easier game to playthrough again, should one desire to revisit that DS gameplay. DS2 was excellent too but was short and yet the last hour or so still managed to drag as the game just throws room after room with masses of enemies at you. The story was also treading water, with the focus being primarily on Isaac and his PTSD. That's ok in itself but I thought it was a shame not to learn anything more after being tantalised by the first game's creation of such an intriguing alien horror, with hints of a vaster scale of importance. This game doesn't suffer from those two things, is longer and has the creativity to sustain it.
So, if you enjoyed the first two, I find it hard to imagine you disliking this, even if you end up preferring the other two as so many others seemingly do. It's just too similar to its predecessors be a game you'd hate after loving the others. It'd be like saying, 'I loved Assassin's Creed 2 but couldn't stand Assassin's Creed Brotherhood'. But hey, it's all subjective ;)

Writing in the game is abysmally bad, even space ship mechanics that affected the general story are absent in this game (i.e., the ship--a military ship--doesn't even have the blast doors the CEC ship did in the intro of Dead Space), and have been replaced with bottom-feeder appeals to adrenaline that aren't fitting in anything except the cheapest of action flicks. I even had to install Origin just to play this bullshit, and yet it still fails in every respectable manner. Character models are the worst they've ever been in the entire series, to the point of looking cartoonish (even the original Dead Space's dated graphics looked better). The whole thing not only looks outright pathetic but character animations are poorly animated, and combat animations lack the crispness of Dead Space 2.
Dialogue is also the worst it's ever been in the entire series (which is saying a lot since Isaac never spoke in Dead Space 1), and completely kills the mood. Also: Necromorphs (r.e., zombies) with axes? Is this a joke? I thought I was playing Dead Space, not L4D. Most enemies are neutered versions of what they once were. Literally every Necromorph has been nerfed for the sake of making this new zombie model the most threatening (which completely kills what made Dead Space so unique). The setting is literally perfect for a reintroduction of the brooding horror of the original, but even then this game falls flat on its face.
This game is only for die-hard fans who have played the first two games to death and want something new. Otherwise, avoid this. It isn't worth the money. If I hadn't gotten all three as a sale, I would've never bought it.
Also the new hacking mini-game is the dumbest thing I've seen in years. Absolute garbage.

The game is amazing in every way and still at some points gets me a bit scared when an enemy is behind me. There is 19 chapters and 3 dlc chapters to go through in the game which can take about 10+ hours to beat. The game is not as horror based as the last game but enough to know you are still playing a horror shooter. There is also way more action so you know you are going to get in a lot of fights during the game. The story is also really good that you know what is happening in the story and it is not just random stuff happening every so often.
Over all the only downside is the $10 dollar dlc for the 3 extra chapters and that you have to download origin to play it but I never really had a problem with origin but none of that will really affect my rating of the game. I think it is a really good title and if you are a big fan of survival horror like RE4 I think you should give this title a try and see what you think.

VERDICT:
This is a slight dip from the previous title, I wouldn't say it's a noticeable dip but DS1 / DS2 gave me more chills and more scares, where as DS3 had WAAAAY more action and guns blazing, not to mention the side quests felt like repeats. Losing a little creativity in that regard.
All that aside, the story was spot on, it had everything I could ask for and more, even though a few reviews are saying that the ending is trapped behind a DLC? I didn't get that feeling, i'm very satisfied with how things ended. I'm hoping for a forth instalment to the series which is rumoured later on this year!
Total Score = 87/100.

Objectively speaking, the combat is okay. A dodge button was added due to the significant increase of close combats and more emphasis was put on the weapons’ secondary fire mode for better crowd control or higher single hit damage. Combined with the kinesis and stasis ability, the combat feels vibrant. But combat is also very tiring to have so many and got me fed up with it at about two-thirds of the game. And more importantly, it becomes impossible to build up the horror. The thing I like about the predecessors and what makes them so special is the atmosphere – the games smartly manipulate flicking lighting, spooky sounds, darkness and the claustrophobic environment in general to create a psychological horror that constantly keeps you at your toes, alarming for any monster that might come out. A successful sequel must respect the original formula on what makes them great, but similar to Lost Planet 3 which is also the swansong of the franchise and happens on a frozen planet, they both didn’t quite figure out why the predecessors are awesome but tried to take the franchise at a new direction blindly. Dead Space 3 failed because the fans didn’t love this new experience, and truth to be told, this “new direction” just made the game to be a generic third-person shooter.
Two new things were put on the table in Dead Space 3. The first is the coop mechanic, which I suspect was influenced by Resident Evil 5 and 6. The coop character (Carver) has his own characterizing and backstory, but sadly they are locked behind coop-only mission so I can’t tell how they are. This game on Steam is a hassle to make it run (and it sometimes got stuck on the DLC check page) because of how bad Origin integrates with Steam and as a launcher. I have a reason to believe coop is troublesome as well.
The second new thing is the weapon modification system, which I heard was built around monetization. Back in 2013 when I first played the game, I hated this system because the homemade weapons I built from scratch tended to have sorry damage. After replaying recently, I realize it is not as bad as I thought. It just doesn’t do much to the gameplay since the system is not really for experimenting with your own guns but for building and modifying blueprint weapons from the game. On top of that, it introduces unnecessary complications with the unintuitive interface, various items and their confusing names. Holding two diagonal keys to select modified parts is also a terrible input design. The original weapon upgrade is much simpler and offers a better sense of progression.
In this entry, the weapon slots shrink from four to two. I think three is ideal because the fourth weapon always feels unnecessary for me in the last two games and two weapons are too few. As for the weapons themselves, they feel both diverse and identical at the same time. You can modify them with different modules, which makes them diverse, but they are also identical since they all play like generic rifles besides the plasma cutter and line gun.
I am a sucker for Lovecraftian so I am fascinated by the lore of Dead Space. Dead Space 3 has a grander world-building and uncovers some secrets around the Marker and I thoroughly enjoy it. However, while Dead Space 1 and 2 all have this idea of not knowing what happened and discovering it during the game, Dead Space 3 just straight-up spoils the main plot to you in the open cinematic. The rest of the game is just for you to see how it plays out. The lack of mystery serves the story no good and I have no idea why the scriptwriters made this poor decision. Also, all the characters feel so grumpy for no reason. I can only justify it as the natural reaction when there are tons of monsters trying to kill you all the time.
Additionally, the Awakened DLC serves as the epilogue for the main game of how Issac and Carver return to earth. Gameplay-wise, it is identical, just reuses a few levels from the main game and plays backwardly (less than two hours long). It is not worthy unless it is dirt cheap.
As a comment in my Dead Space 2 review says, “Dead Space 3 is not bad, it is just not (as) good”, and not the sequel that fans hoped for. It is not bad enough to warn you to skip this game, but I don’t see why you have to play it either (the story is not worthy). It is how a franchise falls from its grace and becomes generic.

It seems that this game was rushed into production, the dialogues are childish, the story doesn't make much sense and is poorly told, the characters are stupidly generic and overall although the gameplay is similar, it doesn't feel like the other games in the series . The graphics are sometimes better except for the faces of the characters. I stopped playing after 1 hour and 30 minutes and uninstalled it.

Nevertheless, Dead Space 3 is still a decent installment to the franchise. The cool thing about Dead Space 3 is that you can play co-op with a friend, where you and your partner can create a bunch of fun weapons.
As of now, the game is not worth the full price. If you are thinking of buying, buy just the game and The Awakened DLC at a discounted price. Don't feed EA, other DLC's are not needed to enjoy the game.

The story is a mess of plot holes and just poor writing, some good voice acting (mostly) paired with some very out of place dialogue. Ellie Langford is a completely different character, now a damsel in distress in a love triangle with Isaac and an EarthGov pilot during the potential extinction of humanity... for some reason. Just don't think too hard its not worth it.
Gameplay is unsatisfying, looks like DS plays like mass effect or something, half existent cover shooting mechanics and bulletspongy enemies. In DS1 & 2 the plasma cutter could get you through anything if you were skilled enough now its all about shooting centre of mass with automatic guns as fast as possible or getting swarmed in a wave of unchallenging yet irritating enemies who are more of a nuisance than a threat.
Avoiding damage is harder because of this and also limb damage has now become a joke. Kinesis locks on to everything you dont want to pick up and often misses, same with some melee attacks not connecting despite it looking like they should. No its not you, getting hit is just part of the game now.
In spite of all this I do like the IP, the moon colony was very visually interesting and i liked the SCAF ship interiors until they started to copy paste tiles everywhere. It didn't utilise the snow for horror very well, it would have looked better without the near constant blizzards. Hated what little suits there were except the EVA (I think leather and fur look silly okay?) and got a bit bored towards the end.
Its unfortunate whats happened to the series but if you like the universe of Dead Space you might still find something to enjoy in this game. Only worth it on sale.

Between the other Dead Space games, this one is by far the weakest, while the first and the second one added psychological horror and constant tension to keep you on your toes. The third take is a far more superficial and focused on the action of the game.
The story goes overboard to try and give a full closure to the entire story of the characters you've been introduced to and the constant conflict that has been going through each game.
However the entire experience didn't deliver that as much, the conflict between characters to try and cause tension felt like these ones being petty at each other for any sort of issue, the main antagonist was just a presence to acknowledge the conflict, and side characters were only tossed around without much effort as Isaac took the blunt of it.
However...I got the chance to play this for the first time in a co-op campaign, and it made everything worth playing by simply not taking this seriously and making it an absolutely dumb fun experience, without having to focus or concerns during the 10 hours of gameplay.
You could do just fine without playing this one out of the franchise if you're just a fan of the games, but if you ever want to find something to do with a friend of yours, then you have an awesome chance with this game.

The game starts out with what has to be one of the weirdest intros to a game I've ever played; the game starts with Isaac in his flat mopping over a picture and audio message from Ellie the female deuteragonist of Dead Space 2. Until a military bro and whiny ginger dumbass (Carver and Norton) barge in and tell him he has to go with them to stop the markers. Again. This then leads to Isaac following them and for the first time in the series fighting actual human enemies and good lord they suck, worst ai from the games' time.
After the intro it only gets worse and is in my opinion only saved for me by the fact I can replay just about anything twice shortly after the first playthrough and I also really enjoyed the crafting despite it being hamfisted and lacking and overall a bit shit. What I hate most are the characters and story beats, Isaac is angry engineer man who is mad over his ex doing the realistic thing and moving on, Ellie has been stripped of what made her an amazing character in 2 and is replace with female damsel in need of save #2316 and then you have people like Carver and Norton, one of them being completely unlikable and the other being an enigma unless you play the horrid co-op which then sure his character isn't that bad and is probably the best in the game smfh.
The problem with people who are completionists like me is that they won't be able to 100% the game unless they do co-op on chapter 4, 11 and 14 due to the co-op only missions which is honestly one of the dumbest decisions in the video game industry locking game content behind something some people don't have access to.
In the end this leads to the game being a mess of terrible writing and characters, bad level design and art direction and semi-enjoyable combat. our of ten, for me it is a 6/10 cause it's Dead Space and I love the series soo much and any content is content for me and I enjoyed shooting gun despite it being off this time. I would NOT recommend you buy this unless it's on bundle, I would say buy the original 2 for the og prices but money goes to EA so just buy them for dirt if you can.

the alien city was one of the most beautiful environments ive ever seen in a game, the frozen necromorphs, carvers hallucinations; they were all wonderful, but god the gameplay was garbage.only invest in this game if youre going to appreciate the art team who worked on it. the story is not worth it at all, but Tau Volantis is the only reason i would recommend this game.

Hate the weapon/ammo system but the crafting is pretty neat. Can definitely make some OP crap about halfway through the game though.
Overall, Dead Space 3 is very gorgeous at times, has some sweet locations and moments, and still has the Dead Space gameplay even if the horror is dialed down. Coop games that have drop in/ drop out during the campaign are somewhat rare so this is a welcome addition. I just hope any unlikely further installments to the franchise take the best of the atmosphere/sound of Dead Space 1 and combine it with the gameplay of Dead Space 2, modern graphics, and bam, I'd buy the $h!t out of that.
Biggest complaint: they neutered Ellie's character. She was so kick butt in DS2, but her character was wishy washer and just boring in 3.

a perfect story with true taste of horror shooter
im asking myself how the hell a guy can destroy such game ?
dead space 3 was supposed to bring glory but EA destroyed it
the fact is this game was the start for 4 more games but somebody in his office just love the loot box for fifa and millions of 20$ loot box
its big shame we will never see dead space 4

Dead Space™ 3 could not be launched because you're no longer an EA Play member. To continue playing, renew your membership or purchase the game from Origin.

While it clearly lacks the horror elements of its predecessors, its storytelling is well done - the audio logs that are missing in Dead Space 2 to piece together the world of Dead Space is back, and you will be handsomely rewarded with bits and pieces of the lore while gunning through the Side Missions. One thing the community despises overall is the crafting system, but it can grow on you if you give it time. The drawback is, finding loot doesn't feel special, since you are only rewarded with weapon and ammo components - the fundamental problem here is that you achieve a part of a reward, which can feel underwhelming overall and takes away from the dopamine loop system of exploring the game and uncovering rewards off the beaten path.
It's important to mention the character of Issac Clarke. While we know him as the silent protagonist from the first game who becomes this wisecracking action hero in the second game, the Issac Clarke in Dead Space 3 can feel like a completely different character. This can be offputting to fans of the series. I think what really sets him apart from the previous games is that he's become more selfish and more self-loathing than he used to be. This can feel natural if we acknowledge how tragic his story is after the second game, but the melodramatic plotlines make it difficult to play the character. Essentially, you may find yourself less likely to cheer him on.
The supporting cast is entirely forgettable, but that has never been Dead Space's strong suit (no pun intended).
Ultimately, like its predecessors, the story ends satisfyingly. The hordes of necromorphs and their mass graves that you have been erecting comes to a meaningful ending. I think Dead Space 3 deserves a playthrough by fans of the series to find out more about the world, the lore, and get some form of catharsis. While the lack of horror can detract from the experience, there are definitely places that still spooked me out (Special Mention: The Artifact Storage side mission was extremely spooky).
7.5/10. Great story still (despite the gratuitous use of emotional plot lines and melodrama).

So, it took
Ellie being a f**kin' dumba** and getting butt-hurt about Issac killing Norton, despite the fact that he's a God-damned traitor
for me to finally decide that this game is without a doubt the worst in the Dead Space series.
What is Good
Before I list the awful s**t in this game, allow me to tell you what I actually like about it.
The Custom Gun System. This is how the other Dead Space games should've been: using scraps and tool parts to create the means to defend yourself. Being able to customize every aspect of a weapon is amazing, and there's tons of variety in what you can bring to the table. Not only that, but you can make some absolutely busted combinations of primary and alternate fire modes, combined with an upgrade circuit system that allows you to easily play to the weapon's strengths or make up for its weaknesses. Hands-down the best part of the game.
Co-op play. Playing a Dead Space game with a friend is actually a fun experience (from what I remember the first time I played this). Although it takes away from the horror aspect (more on this later), blasting Necromorphs and cultists can't get any more fun than with a buddy and your custom arsenals. There are also a few co-op exclusive optional missions that give Carver (player 2) a backstory. I don't recall how co-op centric these missions were, though, only that they added good content to the game. The co-op is also drop-in and out, so player 1 (Issac) won't skip a beat if your friend needs to leave.
What is Bad
Literally everything else that matters. I'll just list them for reference:
-The disgusting microtransactions that poison the experience. This truly was a product of its time (the 'EA shoving microtransactions and multiplayer into places it don't belong' era, EA has only gotten worse. lol). These things show up every time you interact with a Bench or Suit Kiosk and can't afford something. Pair that with being able to straight up buy resources for money (and fully kitted-out guns) makes increased difficulty a matter of swiping your credit card to compensate. As Visceral Games no longer even exists to maybe benefit from you purchase (EA shut them down), don't you f**king dare buy those microtransactions. Just use Cheat Engine and get that s**t for free, f**k EA.
-The story. As stated in the spoiler above, characters say some painfully stupid s**t. You can tell that this game did have some forethought going into it, but someone (or something) corrupted that vision and made it way more campy than the other two games. Many parts of the lore presented here are very interesting, but not worth plot points and drama like the aforementioned
Ellie stupidity
.
-The Horror. It's just f**king absent; this is NOT a survival horror game. As per the time period, Dead Space went the same route as Resident Evil and dropped horror for more action, and it flopped spectacularly. Again: no tension, little atmosphere, only cheap jumpscares. The only exception to atmosphere is the large and open zero-g sections where you are free to roam around.
Overall, cannot recommend to everybody. Only Dead Space die-hards (like myself) should even think about buying this. If you love the lore, setting, and Issac's story; definitely get this (just use the Cheat Engine to get the microtransaction garbage for free). Everyone else: stay away, even if your friend wants to play co-op; It ain't worth it.

I can see the differences on why this flopped than the first 2. The Horror aspect is CLEARLY felt during the first few hours of the first 2 games. This one still has horror but starting the game as MC and the first enemies he encounters are humans and you act like a Soldier does remove the sense of it being horror.
Sure even in Dead Space 2 after playing 1 some scares have less effect but the experience was still horrifying. I get that we can't always be just stuck in 1 place or be alone all the time, still the starting fight just didn't feel right.
Also the game being designed for Co-op didn't help. There is normally just a few enemies in each game but they were impactful. This had me pummeling a lot of them with constant shots. Maybe i am misremembering but there were just too many enemies for my perspective including items. (again possibly due to Co-op design)
Even with this issue, i would still recommend the game to be played. The Story and Lore aspect still carries well and parts that were designed to be scary are still scary or at least atmospheric enough to let me be on my guard. Maybe there is a way to market it not as a Survival Horror but more Action just for this part of the story.
Pros
- Still a decent SP campaign but not a Survival Horror as much as 1 and 2. More like Action Adventure with parts of Horror.
Cons
- Vsync issues
Again I still have a free 20% discount for Humble if anyone reading this needs it, just comment below and add me

While Dead Space 1 and 2 were quite spoopy, Dead Space 3 is a bit more tame in regards to horror and gore. Some other things to note are:
-It has a bit more action and pewpew than the previous titles.
-The mechanics are simple and quick to catch on to.
-I had a far better experience playing with a mouse and keyboard than I did with a controller.
-The replay-ability factor is stronk, since there are 4 different game modes to unlock, as well as varying difficulties to play on.
-Gun customization is an important mechanic to learn in order to create the ideal gun you'd enjoy to play with, but it isn't too difficult to catch on to either.
-If you plan to obtain 100% of the achievements, something to note is both the DLC (Awakened) and Co-Op game-play are required.
-An Origin (EA platform) account is required in order to play.
8/10- Dead Space 3 wasn't disappointing in slightest, While other fans of the series have viable negative criticism about the game, the same fans seem to neglect everything that makes the game a good game. I'd recommend any fans of the series play this game if they're looking for some closure to the story.

It's a game that's heavy on the action side. As for the horror elements I did not find this game scary however some people could find the atmosphere to be spooky. Due to the fact that the enemies are faster, bigger and they appear pretty much everywhere. Making you feel on edge.
-----
The romance side of the plot can be a bit frustrating to watch as it's petty and irrational, even if it's justified by the plot.
----
Overall its my least favourite dead space game but its not a horrible game in general. I would still reccomend giving it a go.

The genre shift is pretty drastic. The second installment had a shift towards action, but there was still plenty of atmosphere and tension, But all of that is gone in this third game. There appears to be a lot of changes to the formula as follows:
* Universal ammo, which basically removes the need for most resource management.
* Enemies move much faster and appear to be more vulnerable to shots to either the head or center mass, which favors the use of assault rifle type weapons more common in other shooters.
* The game feels much, much easier in terms of enemies dripping resources and dealing very little damage. Maybe I've just gotten used to the tricks of the game, but after years of not playing any Dead Space game I jump into 3 on hard difficulty and just started slapping. By the middle of the game I had a stash of 30+ unused medium health kits and nearly as much ammo stacks. The only thing I've died to so far are environmental effects I didn't know about, or rocks. I would venture to say that the beginning chapters of the game are actually the hardest, because it feels like you're using Dead Space genre type weapons (mostly slow, semi autos with small magazines that hit hard) against a game that's spawning enemies more oriented towards action shooters: numerous, faster, and weak.
* The human enemies feel tacked on. They deal almost no damage, and their masks are probably covering their eyes because their aim is so bad.
* The weapon crafting system feels like a double edged sword. It's terrific fun trying out combinations, but in terms of preserving the horror atmosphere it is counterproductive due to the shear number of OP combinations that you end up creating. I'm currently running a high damage SMG with an underslung tripmine launcher that explodes on direct hits, and both parts of the weapon stasis enemies on hit. My second weapon is a contact beam with a flamethrower attached, that automatically reloads when the magazine runs dry so that I may WM1 into the enemy.
Overall, it isn't a bad game per se. It's in fact quite decent when compared to action shooters as a whole. But it's not a good Dead Space game, at least not in the way a lot of fans of the older games would be looking for.
The story of the game is stupid and full of contrived coincidences, face palm moments, character stupidity that goes past suspension of disbelief, and logic that plain doesn't make sense. Some of the events will make more sense if you play coop, as Carver, the coop character has some lines that has no context if you don't play the co-op exclusive side missions. A lot of the game, from the puzzles to the dialogue was obviously designed for 2 players, and it just feels awkward without it. But honestly, I doubt anybody is playing the game for the story, so I didn't really care.
There are hints of the original Dead Space game design in the first 3rd or so of the game, mainly in the chapters that take place in orbit. The environments are much darker and cramped, there are more intelligent ambushes like slashers in vents next to upgrades, you feel the need to watch your back, etc. The first 3rd of the game is also the only time you will have to deal with regeneraters, or get to go into zero g, outside of optional missions. But once you drop on the planet, the environment changes drastically. You get a bunch of long hallways, open areas, and arenas with chest high cover a la Gears of War. It really feels like this is where the design shift was implemented. This is also the part where you start to notice the power creep regarding the weapon system.
As I mentioned, the beginning of the game feels the hardest because it feels like you start the game with Dead Space weapons, against a roster and spawn system that is producing enemy volumes and behavior that would be more at home in COD. It's like the game starts you out with a magnum to try to kill a horde of bloodthirsty rabbits. Overkill in terms of power, but without the fire rate or magazine size to fit the enemy pool and behavior. And midgame is the point where you find the blueprints to a flamethrower, and start slaughtering them to the point where it might actually begin to get dull at times.
Honestly, despite all the criticism that I've given, the game is still good. There's just a feeling of lost potential written all over it.

However I can't see myself playing it solo or replaying it on a different difficulties solo simply because game is really boring in that way. I mean it's not scary and like the story is simply awful. A lot of decisions that main characters do literally don't make sense.
But overall - get it on discount and have fun playing with someone. Origin was no problem to use at all and the connection was always stable and good. No lag, no delays, perfect.

If i need to elaborate further on why the game is good, there is great customization in weaponry the movement is hard to get used to, but the game is forgiving enough to let you learn. The gunplay is fantastic and so is the sound design.
My favorite track in this game is the track when you are floating in space, feels very atmospheric.
Other than that, story, ehh really i only listen to the dialogue and laugh when Isaac survives something he shouldnt or another side character dies or tells me to run to the other side of a building and comeback. (its really not that boring :D)
Character: We need to find parts to build ________ they should be located in 3 areas of this building.
Me: Ah shit, here we go again...
Its like that... It actually is a really good game, well worth the 7$ i paid for it.
Really want a dead space 4, something not as action based as 2 and 3, maybe even go for 1st person view like RE7 did to revitalize the franchise. Because I honestly am in love with these games, very fun.

Then, there's Dead Space 3.
Dead Space 3 is an abysmal, completely atrocious, irredimably terrible game.
Nothing can describe my complete primal, raw hatred towards this miserable excuse of a sequel, nor my limitless, unparrallel anger due to what EA did to Viceral Games.
Everything, all that once made Dead Space fun, exciting, fresh and unique was either molested, vandalized, stamped or obliterated from its soul. A complete rage inducing idioticy of a storyline leaving nothing answered nor lasting interest, a overtly simplified design, with gameplay completely missing the point of what the past two games were beloved for and why they were great to begin with.
Name something you like about 1 and 2, and its either gone, a shallow of its former self or completely changed around into something worse. To put the cherry on the top the coop functionality is outright broken, laggy, full of connection issues and with cutscenes ranging from not taking the partner into account to mildly inserting him in place.
It’s a hollow husk of a follow-up, a game with no love put into it or heart of it’s own, its nothing but an absolutely insufferable piece of inexcusable garbage and one of the most infuriating, soul-crushingly horrible experiences I had the infinite displeasure of subjecting myself to.
Screw you EA. So much for having anything nice. I hate you. Suffer and die. This franchise was too good for this world.

A substantial way into this game I suddenly found myself nearly at the beginning again. Only this is not a part of the game - it is a save error. All of my progress, hard-won battles, unlocks and inventory lost and no way to recover, as rather bizarrely there was only one save slot, and in exiting the 'kicked back to the start' game it saved to this one available slot.
There is something wrong with the save routines of this game. Something that one is not aware of or warned about.
Have decided not to play on as this is likely to happen again if it has inexplicably happened already.
A very disappointing sequel to a brilliant and original original libretto. Dont buy this unless you want to risk losing tens of hours of play.

Here's my Impressions:
Story:
Pretty average.
Gameplay:
It's almost the same as the first 2 entries, and it's visceral, fast and really good. The gunplay is exceptionally fun, and dismembering some necros never gets old. Also the new gunsmith system is insanely good, and allows you to create weapons that suit your playstyle. The ammount of combinations is pretty good to keep you surprised till the end of the game.
Coop:
Extremely smooth experience so far. No connection issues. It may deter some people that the Origin overlay is required to invite some people, but we didn't really find it to be too annoying as friends could directly join in. Also what surprised me is that there's a very small loading screen after pressing the start button to enter a game from the lobby.
The COOP missions are hit and miss. Most of them are in the same area with a different route, and after a while it gets repetitive. However the scenes where Carver(Player 2) sees things, and does things that Issac(Player1) can't is really impressive tech, and not seen very often. That was done really well.
Graphics:
It's a 2013 game but it still looks great in 2020. Textures are high fidelity and only look dated in a few places. Overall I didn't feel like I was playing an ancient game. The only time you can see the age is during cutscenes with character faces.
Final Impression:
Even though its not as good as DS1 and 2, it's still extremely fun and engaging and a definite must buy for some 2 Player Coop gameplay.

So my first couple hours playing the game I think they changed too much of the upgrading style. I didn't like the weapon customization, but I adapted to it. The story is pretty good as well as the horror/scare factor. I didn't find myself jumping as much to this game as the previous DS1/2 games. Overall is this a fun game.
