muss schon seeeeeeeeeeeehr lange suchen.

the game in general is just bad, and frustrating to play, If you're someone whose reading this review before purchasing dr 4, don't, you'll most likely regret it, iv'e had to reload checkpoints probably about 4 or 5 times because of a stupid bug, where it prevented me from progressing on, at certain points.
Definitely the worst dead rising out of them all, if you can even consider this trash apart of the series to begin with, if they wouldn't have been in such a hurry to release it maybe, it would have had potential to be something better.
Just a shameful cash grab, that had no effort put into it and was extremely rushed.

Very boring gameplay coupled with a silly undertone, an overly obnoxious Frank West and ridiculously stupid AI make for a very bad game that was obviously rushed out the door in time for Christmas. Don't waste your money buying this, get Dead Rising 3 instead.

Screams for co-op story (which has become a staple of the series, but not here?) and it would be an enjoyable play through. Modders have been locked out of this dumpster fire with Denuvo and hash checks on every file, so they have prevented the community from fixing their issues too.... Studio is gone now, so little to no hope for a fix at this point.

couldn't finish the game because the boss fight got buggy... not even gonna bother to try and fix this (i'll just take the same attitude as the devs i guess).
gameplay is extremely repetitive.
most of my gametime is the game being open in the background, not actually being played.
F Capcom.

As a long time Dead Rising fan, not in the slightest. It still doesn't feel like a Dead Rising game, filled with a bunch of lies from interviews, new content in Dec 2017 was fun for a bit but got boring and repetitive, the true ending is 10 dollars, and caused the company behind the game (Capcom Vancouver) to close it's doors while they were working on the 5th game.
I'll only recommend this game if you don't care about the franchise, a super casual gamer, or a newcomer of the series and want to understand the hatred of this game in the fanbase.
If you want a challenging zombie game with a better story and gameplay, get the first game. Multiplayer campaign fun 2, OTR and 3 would do the trick but I prefer getting 2 and it's spin off, Off The Record.

GOOD
-Graphics and animations
-Sounds
-Outfits
-Length
BAD
-The zombie killing starts off fun, but grows a bit tedious, dull, sometimes annoying. Much of it feels like a copy and paste job from 3. Skill progression felt slow, too gradual and unrewarding.
-The story felt meaningless and boring. The parts that were meant to feel dramatic end up uninteresting. The parts meant to be silly felt dull. The action never really wowed me.
-The main character is the worst part of this. He is so utterly annoying. The other characters aren't that interesting either.
Buy this only if you're **OBSESSED** with zombie slaying. You'll get alot of that and then some since the game lasts extremely long especially if you like to search around and do sidequests. Hold absolutely no expectations for anything else here. It's a game that promises zombie killing, and delivers, but forgets to add anything special or interesting past that.

Starting off for anyone who looks for Co-Op, stay far away from this because the Co-Op Campaign has been removed and replaced with a Horde Mode where you clear levels and proceed to the next level with only small area's of the map being accessible at a time. Not sure why this was done instead of just including a Campaign like all previous entries have allowed but okay. (I'll just go ahead and add Co-Op never worked for me and my friend longer than 4 minutes but that's another issue on it's own.)
Weapons, Vehicles, and Customization is fun and diverse. You're able to use loads of new and old weapons each with their own unique special kill and heavy hit. Each weapon feels unique while being light/heavy for it's perspective look. Vehicles are also introduced in the form of Scooters, and Bumper Cars, Lawn Mowers, and crazy inventions that will rack up kills.
The map is huge and pretty open. You're able to leave the mall at a certain point of the game and explore the town, while the mall still holds a lot of stores and loads of doors to open and explore most of it is what we've already seen in previous entries. Not all bad but repetitive at times.
In a lot of ways the game has been completely streamlined for the casual player. I've recently been playing Dead Rising 2 and my friend and I had issues with the time constraint, each one of us wanting to play the game a certain way. With her perspective more relaxed and focused on main missions, and mine trying to tackle everything because I enjoy the challenge despite how frustrating it can get. Here the timer is completely removed, kills are made extremely easy with weapons and vehicles at your disposal, Zombies are no longer aggressive during the night they just simply exist in masses, Save locations are removed because now with a press of a button you are able to save, food and health supplies now have their own slot so they don't take up inventory space, and the worst and I mean absolute worst... Maniacs no longer exist. Remember running into Slappy or some crazy obese lady who didn't want to share her food? Maybe even a down syndrome known as Ted with a tiger, a crazed Mall Cop, an obsessed body builder, a sexed crazy guy with a dildo flame thrower? Nah non that exists. It's just a group of 4 people defending a certain area dressed as something you have to fight and kill.
Overall this isn't Dead Rising. It's not a terrible game as people will lead you to believe, in fact, I enjoyed it for the time I did play it. But it's a shell and something completely different from what it used to be.

But, I will preface this review with the fact that i got the game + all DLC for about $7 on sale.
The psychos are still there. They're just called maniacs, and they dont have cutscenes. The timers are gone, outside the DLC story. Which, i dont think is a bad thing.
It gives you infinite time to screw around, investigate, collect stuff, beat the crap out of zombies. Do whatever. The story moves at your pace. The vehicle system introduced in dead rising 3 has been improved upon. Combo vehicles make a return, and the world is actually open enough to justify vehicles. No impassible barriers every five feet. Driving can be FUN! novel concept, right?
Downsides. New frank VA. No super combos. No story co op.
look, i had fun. I beat the game, and started a second run in nightmare mode, which I am currently working on. Its dead rising zombie killing sandbox fun.

• Frank West is not the same guy you remember, now he resembles something between Ash from the Evildead and Franklin from GTA V.
• Lack of details is a huge disappointment, forget about dismembering zombies and picking any object around like you used to do in earlier games.
• I haven't played the game enough to judge this part, but plot started better than the last two games.
• Overall doesn't feel satisfying to kill zombies.
• Lot of custom weapons, inventory is sizewise more practical than before.
• Over-the-top humor kinda Saints Row the third at times.
• They removed the time limit that gave me anxiety.
Tl;dr: Dead rising itself needs some big changes, as the gameplay itself doesn't keep up with modern games. If you're looking for something fresh to play like i did, look somewhere else.

It's a fun zombie killing game that looks like Dead rising.
Pros
+ I like Frank West
Cons
- The story isnt the greatest and never ever tries to build upon itself.
Every serious moment has to include an ''omg lol'' moment or cheap comedy
- Ending locked behind DLC, WHAT THE FUCK
- You are WAY too powerful.
Being able to have 3 different inventories each for a different kind of weapon. On top of that you have a separate health inventory for your health items. No resource management is needed.
- Guns are risk free, easy to find and to powerful, there is no challenge
- The investigation mode is boring, it really does not add anything to the game.
- Lots of bugs, enemies spawning in unintended locations, local events reoccuring everytime you go out of frame etc.
- Short game & unexciting world to explore. The game's locations are boring and dont really have anything fun in them
Conclusion: I'm going back to play the first DeadRising instead this one was medicore. Only recommend diehard fans that refuse to let any DR game go unplayed play this. Personally, I'm sad that I gave Capcom money for this game as it was an obvious attempt at milking the franchise for what its got left.

Information / Review Deutsch
Dead Rising 4 ist ein Action-Abenteuer, welches von Capcom Game Studio Vancouver, Inc. entwickelt wurde.
Gameplay / Geschichte

Otherwise, this might be one of the worst game I have ever played in every aspect.
Everything is ugly on ultra settings (runs smoothly but it still sh!t)
Story is laughable, voice acting is horrible, figthing is dull and boring, losing is only possible if you stand and wait for a good 5 minutes doing nothing. (Just played on normal)
I'm glad I got it for less than 5€ because it shouldn't cost more than that.

Probably not the best in the franchise but it's definitely good fun. To those who say it doesn't feel like Dead Rising? Good it shouldn't, it should feel new. If you ate the same meal everyday it would be fucking horrible and incredibly dull.
It has been freshened up with a slightly different gameplay style and aesthetic which I think suits the setting.
If you want the same game year after year but just remastered then don't get it, just carry on playing the original.
If this were the same as the original I'd find it stale. So stop the whinging about it not feeling like a Dead Rising, I'm glad its not the same.
I can admit it has flaws and they are numerous, such as some of the corny lines in dialog or the fact that you can't rescue survivors like you used to is disappointing. I don't think this made the experience terrible though.
I'd give it a go, maybe not pay full price but its definitely a good laugh.

In a world full of zombies, you will play as Frank West (photographer) and try to discover why this happened. You will collect weapons and items, drive vehicles and fuse your items in order to fight against humans and hordes of enemies. The weapons have a durability, which will make you have an eye on its status. Nevertheless, you don’t need to be worried. You will find many weapons. The number of weapons and items in this game is extraordinary.
I honestly loved the tutorial. It was perfect. But after I played for a couple of hours, I got bored and quitted playing for several weeks. I can’t explain what bored me, but I just felt like I was forcing myself to complete the game. I wasn’t enjoying it. I decided to restart it today and oh my god. I loved it. Maybe I just needed a break of this game. Because I came back and played through the whole game (3 hours today, 8 hours in total). The ending case / level was really nice. But as I mentioned above, the story wasn’t too good.
There is a capcom heroes game mode. It is awesome, in theory. You will be able to play various capcom heroes and use their abilities. You will have much more fun and you won’t need to look out for weapons, nor to check their durability. Unfortunately, the developers were pretty lazy. The game mode is cool, but it is the same story. And you can’t even skip the cutscenes. This made me quit this game mode. I won’t replay the same story (another 8 hours).
All in all, a really good and fun zombie slasher game. Don’t expect to get intrigued into the story, even though I really liked Frank West (great character). You will enjoy senselessly slashing your way through zombie hordes, making combos and using insane weapons.

The Characters:
Frank West is back, and worse than ever before, it feels like a completely different person than the 1st and 2nd (Off the record) game. His sometimes witty and cringe humor is replaced by an all cringe and annoying personality. The other games while yes, the most important thing to him is getting the scoop, he also sympathizes for the people that are stuck in these bad situations then proceeds to help the survivors because even with all his remarks he still cares about what happens to these people. The new Frank West would see a survivor dying, make jokes at those survivors' espence, and laugh at his own jokes all while taking pictures of the zombies ripping out the survivors’ guts in front of him. And that is pretty much the tone of this Frank West, a disinterested old man running around without a goal or reason to care other than the alternative of not covering this story is being arrested by the local authorities for obstruction of justice. I’m sure some people are going to say he has changed over time and he had major experiences that changed him, and I would like to ask like what? This is the guy who already survived 2 outbreaks, are you saying a 3rd one that is pretty much like the first game but toned down is the one to break Frank West? When the main characters don’t care about the story how can they expect us as players to care if we are to experience the story though this person. Other characters are a mix bag of good and bad but most of them are forgettable.
The Story (no spoilers):
If you haven't played the 3rd game then don’t worry it had little to no impact to this game as the story basically ignores events of that game. It is almost like the first game, where there is an outbreak and you go investigate and that is most of it.
The world:
It felt the same as the 3rd game with a mix of the 1st game thrown in. The first game each area was themed and most of the time you can easily recognize the area you were in and how to navigate to other areas, as for this game everything feels and looks almost the same with some variation inside the mall but for the most part I had to keep looking at the map and still get lost.
Gameplay:
If you played the first one well it is mostly the same. A downside to it is I can’t tell the difference in between a level one character and a level one hundred character, the “upgrades” in this game barely does anything noticeable, cool my chances of critical hitting something increases from 3% to 7%, it is lackluster compared to other upgrades in the previous games like max level in DR1 (if I remember correctly) if you walk instead of running you do a sort of zombie walk and other zombies are less likely to notice you, or in DR3 where you can get materials in the same category and replace the exact parts needed for crafting.
From what I get from my time playing this game it is more like a cash grab rather than a proper game, so don’t waste your money or if you must get it on sale.

So, the story itself is shit and poorly written, Any fan of the DR franchise could write a much MUCH BETTER story than what was pitched for this games storyline... TL;DR of the story, is that the Willamette Mall is the epicenter of another zombie outbreak. you play as Frank West who is now in his mid 40's to early 50's, I'm guessing, and have to go back to where the series began. your apprentice, Vick, is a massive bitch who needs to take some downers to calm the fuck down... Vick ends up butthurt when Frank tells her that they do an report by his rules, and she ends up killing someone in a cell that had been turned into a zombie, alerting the guards who sound the alarm. Though that's just the prologue. the main storyline was SUPPOSED to take place in Willamette Mall, but you're only there for a few minutes at the start, and a few minutes at the end. The majority of the story takes place in the city from Dead Rising 3. Why they went with this choice, I have no clue. The storyline wraps up with a chase after Vick through the mall, an awesome boss fight against Calder where you are using Exo-Suits to punch one another, and an mediocre zombie chase through the mall where you need to hold out until the Rescue chopper arrives... Frank ends up dying by performing an self sacrifice for Vick... WHO DOESN'T DESERVE THE SELF SACRIFICE! The ending is pretty bullshit and should have been fixed up in development before being shipped out.
The NPC's are all bland and boring, Plain and simple. I've seen better NPC's in Mass Effect and the Dragon Age series.
The gameplay is one of the ONLY good things about this game! and even there it lacks stuff! What happened to all of the workbenches and the Survivors that are out in the world that you have to escort back? What about the minigames that were in DR2? Like strip poker or anything actually FUN besides the combat and carnage?!
The sound design was okay, at most...
The Graphics were good, as well.
Out of all of the stuff in this game, that caused me to hate it the most, I'd have to say it's Frank Wests character assassination. There were A LOT of questionable choices when it came to his character in this game...
If you want to see this game for yourself, then feel free to buy it... I won't be buying the DLC for this game, seeing as the company basically murdered this once awesome franchise with an tomahawk to the back of the skull...

Nope.
The issues with this game are far deeper then just a slight redesign. Though, to complete that thought - new Frank isn't really funny. He does have a moment or two when he seems pretty interesting, at the start, like he has SOME depth but - no. I don't understand who thought a 52 year old man would be running around saying bad one-liners and whatnot, or quoting the jarring dialogue of the original games that UNINTENTIONALLY was funny. It isn't funny when you recycle 'I've covered wars, ya know' four times and try to play it off like a serious joke. It was funny originally because it wasn't meant to be, it was accidentally comedy in a game that was translated into English. Also, every character Frank interacts with is underdeveloped, uninteresting, or just exists for no reason.
Story is scant, short, and badly thought out. Plot developments pop up and end like a flatline, including the utterly pathetic original ending that tried to make you care about anything. The game essentially goes: Bad guys? Find out why they are bad. Bad guys work for bad 'client' corporation trying to AS USUAL control zombies, but you NEVER find out who they are and they never come even close. Bad guys accidentally create cave-man super zombies that talk. They talk for about 5 seconds, then you kill the leader and its all over. THE WHOLE GAME.
Everything else is just encountering characters with no story or background you learn nothing about.
So, what is the rest of it? The 20-30 hours? Well, its collecting iffy uninspired blueprints that are half-thought out, useless newspapers, podcasts, cellphones, oddly few 'distress' side-quests, and the very few uninspired and badly designed 'maniac' fights. You have no reason to complain over Dead Rising 3 now, that game had few maniacs but they were crazy and full of character. Also, well designed. Not here. They are all essentially the same, simply possessing a special weapon - which is the only reason you want to fight them, to get that special weapon.
Over the course of this game, you will never feel stronger or more capable. Weapons never get more exciting. You'll be bored as there are a grand total of 3 zombie types to fight, two of which are basically the same with a different look. One you do not even encounter until around 20 hours, or 6-10 if you aren't collecting. You'll have a boring arsenal of weapons in which the developers got lazy and forgot to add special moves for after a while. You'll explore incredibly claustrophobic streets, having almost no opportunities to make the few car blueprints available - and therefore you just buy them at the safehouses. You'll walk and drive around, killing the same old looking zombies, hoping for random survivors to spawn so you can max out the safehouse levels just to buy location maps to find more collectibles.
See? The whole thing is fluff. And its set in a barren quiet place that feels odd and eerie, not in a horror sense but more like a incomplete sense. Its tight and boring, and designed to hinder you so you take more time doing anything. Some areas have items or pictures that you can only take once, and you have to replay entire cases to get one little thing you missed.
There is also multiplayer but... I never found anyone to be online when I was. Go figure, seeing as at the time of this review I've actually still encountered people in Dead Island of all games! Wow.
Just get Dead Rising 3, its done right and it is a much larger game with worthwhile DLC, weapons, locations, upgrades, story, and more. This is just a waste of time.

That said, the mall is nicely made, tons of zombies on screen at once, and there are a bunch of extra modes to keep you playing (if you want to) after the main story ends.
Moderately enjoyable, but definitely a 'wait for sale' purchase at best.

There are a few reasons for this. The first was that my initial excitement about the game was marred by a technical issue. Upon purchasing the game a few years back, I played the game for about an hour, saved and exited the game. After downloading a patch, I was unable to start the game. Every now and again, I came back and tried to play it only to not be able to load up my game. After doing some searching online, I found that one of the game's updates apparently corrupted save files. So after trying to start a new game, I was able to play the game again. I encountered technical issues within the game as well. One very memorable event occurred while I was driving through the streets of Willamette with a large truck. I was plowing through zombies just fine until I got midway onto a bridge. All of a sudden my truck flings in the air and upon landing, Frank is somehow ejected and glitches through the floor, falling to his death.
Now that I was able to play the game, I spent the next week or so playing through the main campaign. After the announcement I was excited to play as Frank West again. Little did I know that in addition to sacking the original voice actor for Frank that they decided to make Frank a different character entirely. The Frank West from Dead Rising 1 and 2 (Off the Record and Case West) is entirely a different person from this individual. This might not seem like an issue but it does add to the tonal inconsistency in the game when Frank cracks jokes all of the time in light of some of the events occurring in the game (some of which unfortunately miss the mark).
With that aside, how is the gameplay? Unfortunately, the game has been dumbed down in many ways. Gone are the ability for Frank to be creative with the kinds of weapons he uses. For example, if I pick up a cash register in Dead Rising 1, I can use it as a blunt weapon or toss it towards zombies. In this game, if I pick up a melee weapon, I can only ever use it as a melee weapon. In this game, weapons are divided into three different categories: firearms, melee weapons, and thrown weapons. This limits the creativity with which you can dispatch zombies or humans in the game. An even worse offender, in my opinion, is the removal of the time mechanic in the game. I didn't realize how central this mechanic was to my enjoyment of the first two games. I now no longer needed to be strategic about the equipment I took with me or the routes that I took towards the objectives. To make matters worse, the survivors themselves are generic and most do not have any backstory associated with them. Most of these survivors spawn randomly and they keep on spawning. If one of them dies, no worries, another will spawn around town. Another negative change comes with the removal of psychopaths. In the first two games, I found the psychopaths to be interesting and memorable (Adam is an example of this). The third game, I felt, was a bit weaker in this regard. This installment removes psychopaths entirely in favor of a maniac system (fighting weaker groups rather than one psychopath). I didn't like this system at all as each encounter seemed to play out the same: kill trash mobs and then fight generic sub boss #2.
The zombies themselves are also not very threatening in this installment. In this game, I was able to pull off a 2000 hit combo and decimate over a thousand zombies in under 15 seconds. This is entirely possible within the realm of the game. The bad enemy AI for the humans also ensures a lack of challenge as well.
I don't want to spoil the campaign for anyone reading but I will say that the campaign starts off promising but loses steam after the introductory portion. The DLC, while different, is short and feels like it should have been part of the main game (needed for the true ending). The DLC also didn't have much of a compelling story as well.
I could go on and complain about the open world and how its inclusion actually hampered the experience this time among other problems but I think you get the point. This was an interesting title. I did think it was just okay during my first playthrough but I tried going back to play the Capcom Heroes mode and just could not last an hour playing through the game again. I already knew what I was in for and that it wasn't going to get better from there. I compare that to my experience in the first game where I would use my knowledge to make more efficient routes and play that much better (I have replayed the game quite a few times on the XBOX 360). I had no desire to that this time around.
I am not going to lie and say that Dead Rising 4 is a bad game. I think it is mediocre and I do think it is a bad Dead Rising title.

Otherwise, this game is awesome. Underrated, if I do say so myself.

The story is meh.... compared to Dead Rising 3.
The DLC Frank Rising is pretty boring and extremely fast to do.
Well is not a bad game but is far away to be a great game and dead rising 3 is much better than this one here.
Dead Rising 4 6/10
Heisen.

The city is easier to navigate than in dead rising 3, but they had to put non repeatable sidequest that you can fail permantely.
Had one failed because i was crusing in the highway, the quest was under it, and i couldn't get to the quest zone without leaving the area, so quest failed. Another because failed because the npc decided after taking too much damage to gtfo the quest area. Kind a problem when the quest, after dealing with the zombie, was about delivering some items to him, and you can't give it to him without leaving the quest area.
Ok to play if you go it in a bundle, but wouldn't recommend buying it.
