This might be a very unusual entry to the Darksiders franchise.
Its also the first one i ever played.
It controls good. It looks good. It runs very well.
The mainthing that got my attention was the coop.
Even tho i dont really dig the artstyle that much cause it looks a bit too much like this chubby wow fantasy mud it still can look pretty good and impress with nice effects that feel juicy.
Somehow this game kept suprising me with fresh ideas just the second before i was about to get bored.

I love the Darksiders Series.
First I worried about the Strife Gameplay, but I really enjoy him.
Although Genesis is diabloesc, it feels 100% like Darksiders, thanks to the the atmosphere, combat and puzzles.

God, I love the fact that they made Strife the funny guy, really good synergy with War. Maybe we get a standalone DS with Strife, I am sure it would work out.

Darksiders Fan seit Teil 1!

Comic Insider: Handschrift von Joe Madureira (u.a.

+ tolles Leveldesign
+ spannende und unterhaltsame Charaktere
+ gelungene Story, teilweise wirklich sehr lustige Unterhaltungen

A cautionary tale of how one thing can screw up a great game to be terrible.
The graphics and art are great. Story is okay too. I also enjoyed the gameplay, lots of fun switching between War and Stride and executing various combos to decimate your enemies.

But, the camera. Oh, the camera... It will fill you with rage as you plunge into the abyss for the nth time because that jump you thought you could make was actually a few inches off and there was no way for you to tell.
A lot of effort went into positioning the camera angle automatically for the player, in an attempt to make it more convenient. Good idea in theory, but the actual result is terrible. It will change the angle at the worst possible times, like in a middle of a jump puzzle. And there are a lot of jump puzzles. I think the camera would be better off at a fixed angle or at least let the player control it.

A few other things like various bugs (like monsters glitching through the floor) and unbalanced stats (either it's super easy, or some random monster one shots you) does not warrant a recommend from me. Although this game has many great things about it, I think it will just leave you frustrated.

“You know what we need to do? We need to build a f**king team.”
~Deadpool

In 2010, Texas-based company Vigil Games, who was already working under the THQ at that point, released their first game – Darksiders. And, despite the fact that there was nothing unique about it, it quickly became a hit. For two reasons. First – platforms like Xbox and PS never had their own Zelda games. Some people tried, but still, it wasn't really a thing. You wanted Zelda? Nintendo was the only real way. Now, Darksiders? It did exactly that. It gave us cool-looking Zelda game. For Xbox, PS and PCs. Naturally, it was cool to have something like that. As for the second reason – despite the serious lack of creativity, Vigil were pretty talented workers. And as the result, Darksiders turned out o be surprisingly smooth and polished. Even more so when it's about the sequel, which felt even more smooth than the original.

Unfortunately, after a series of failures and wrong decisions (some of which included hardware gimmicks nobody asked for), THQ sank in depths and... Well, Vigil was no more. As for Darksiders, the franchise was sold on the auction. Platinum Games was interested, CRYTEK was interested, but it was Nordic Games that ended up winning. Naturally, they didn't pay for nothing and wanted to make a new Darksiders game. Heck, they even hired former Vigil employees, who, after a failed experience with CRYTEK, ended up establishing the new company – Gunfire Games. Surprisingly, what they did under Nordic wasn't a new Zelda clone. It was Souls-like game. Not even the top-grade one. Which... didn't go well with many players (yours truly included), but Darksiders III is not what we're talking about today. Today, we're talking about Darksiders Genesis. And when it's about Darksiders Genesis, the first question is... what the heck is Darksiders Genesis?!

Well, naturally, it's a spin-off (shocking, isn't it?). Developed by Airship Syndicate. Which makes perfect sense, since while one founder of Vigil Games, David Adams, ended up founding Gunfire Games, another one, Joe Madureira, together with Ryan Stefanelli, gave birth to Airship Syndicate. Which, at the point we're talking about, already developed a game called Battle Chasers: Nightwar, based on Mr. Maduriera's comic book series. But you know what? That's exactly why I wasn't that excited about Darksiders Genesis. I mean, even though press praised Battle Chasers game quite a lot, I didn't really like it. There was a lot of good in it, can't argue with that. It was pretty much an attempt to turn Runic Games' Torchlight into JRPG. And it sure looked cute. The problem is – it was a pretty short and limited game, while Airship Syndicate tried to make it feel longer by slow things down. So, even though there was clearly not enough content, the game still took us about 30 hours to beat. And it felt a lot like wasting our time. Naturally, I expected something like that from the new Darksiders game too and... In a way, I was right. In a way.

See, my biggest complaint about this game? Is that it's slow. Like... seriously slow. Darksiders Genesis is one of those games that I can't even play without speedhacks. Just because everything here feels like the game takes place underwater. Then again, it kinda makes sense, since the pace here is pretty close to what we had in the original Darksiders, while when it's about content? Even though clearly, Airship Syndicate used Torchlight as a starting point again, Darkisders Genesis is nothing but empty. Exactly the opposite, even though levels here (the game is divided in 17 chapters, some of which are just boss battles with one of them being locked behind the collectibles) are pretty small, there are no empty spaces. Pretty much every corner here has a purpose. I'm really surprised to see something like this nowadays, in times when humanity almost forgot about smart level design, but levels in this game are really nicely designed. Even more so since most of the content on levels is optional. Which is more interesting than you may think, since leveling in this game is exploration-oriented. The more secrets you'll discover – the stronger you'll be.

Which brings us to another thing. Despite the looks, Darksiders Genesis isn't just a Torchlight in Darksiders setting. Exactly the opposite. This game? It's a pretty strange beast. In a way, it's more like Crystal Dynamics' Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Which means that, even though it looks like yet another one of those ARPGs, it's actually more like one of those third person adventure games. With tons of puzzles. In other words, don't expect this game to be yet another Diablo. Even though there'll be a lot of battles (which will include melee combat, guns and even horseback riding), in order to progress through levels, you'll need to solve puzzles. Which feel surprisingly good. Not only it's a nice nod to the original Darksiders games, puzzles here are interesting without being too complicated to ruin the pace. They are satisfying, they'll make you think a bit (especially since we're controlling not one, but two characters at the same time and are free to switch between them at any moment to get access to their unique abilities), but not to much, because... you know. It's still an action game. Really nice stuff, I must say. Really thought-through.

Can't say it's a perfect experience, though. I've already mentioned Darksiders Genesis being way too slow for my liking, but there's also another problem. See, this game involves a lot of jumping. If you weren't born yesterday, you probably remember Hookshot from Zelda games, right? That certain mechanics, when you use some sort of grappling hook in order to cross the pit and you either do it right, or fall to your doom like a certain wizard (fly, you fools!)? It's presented here. Heck, things don't even end there. Again and again, you'll need to use rising air flows, cross the moving / falling platforms and do all sorts of other falling-related things. In games like the original Darksiders, such things are not a problem at all. Exactly the opposite, it's hard to imagine Zelda-like experience without such stuff. But here? With all the diagonal-down perspective? It can be really, really annoying. Especially since it's pretty hard to see our character's shadow on the ground. Which is, obviously, the only way to know where you'll land. In other words, even though falling down won't kill you instantly (you'll just lose some of your HP), you can still say that there are some cheap deaths here. Which is never a good thing.

Finally, the game game is trying to be funny. In Darksiders Genesis we play as War and Strife and... let's just say that those act like our usual comedy duo. With War being a straight man, while Strife trying to pull Deadpool (pull Deadpool... * sigh *). Sure, it works better than what we had in Darksiders III, but still... it's kinda weird after what we had in the originals. In other words, Darksiders Genesis is far from being a perfect game. And yet, it's a very, very interesting title. And even if you'll decide to play it alone (aside from other things, the game is heavily co-op oriented), you'll still have a lot of fun with it. Just don't expect it to be a mindless ARPG and there's a big chance you'll love the time you'll spend here. Dixi.

Darksiders: Genesis is a isometric hack and slash/shooter that reinvents the series gameplay while introducing the last horseman (Strife) as a playable character, adds co-op and a light RPG element. I thought the game was fun to play, it’s full of action, the story is good and the stages are mostly well designed though object detection is the game’s biggest issue. I recommend picking it up you want a decent top down hack and slash, or are a fan of the Darksiders series.

Story
The game is set long before the events of the previous games, introducing War and Strife to some of the series reoccurring cast of characters. The council tasks War and Strife to investigate the power play Lucifer is making in hell, as it might upset the balance the council strives for. I thought the story was quite well thought out (since most players already know what will happen in the future), and it does a good job of expanding the existing lore without trashing what has been previously established. The character growth for both War and Strife is handed quite well, as both horsemen initially focused on only their own concerns, War on following the law to the letter without questioning the council, while Strife is still coming to terms with his guilt over slaying the rest of his kind and distrusts everyone around him, though they eventually find middle ground to combat the threat they uncover. The interactions between all the major players is really well done, and there are plenty of in series jokes for fans of the series to chuckle at.

Gameplay
Gameplay has drastically changed again, now being a isomeric hack and slash (think Diablo) with platforming elements. I couldn’t see how they could have gotten Strife’s gunslinging/kiting any better and the change in format suites it well. Using war as a melee hack and slash tank also works in this format, but Strife is the character you want to play with as soon as you find the right upgrades. Like the rest of the series there are tons of upgrades and hidden collectables to pick up, though unlike other games the souls currency seems to be in abundance in this game, one run should see you owning most of the upgrades.

The game has RPG elements in the way the newly introduced creature core system is introduced, and how they let you buff your characters as you see fit. You can collect cores from defeated enemies (random spawn), and each core can be slotted into a board where their unique buffs are applied. Each core is of a set type, and can be upgraded multiple times, and the board is limited in available slots of each level and type which affects your placement (and applied buffs). You could likely ignore this in the easier difficulties but becomes critical in hard onwards. I thought that it’s a smart gimmick, as it lets you slightly customise your character abilities and doesn’t require farming or stupid amounts of grinding. There are also different skins you can unlock if you want War & Strife to look visually different, but they are locked behind quests rewards.

The controls are well thought out (on a controller at least), and I found the game very responsive. The biggest issue the game has is its platforming element, it holds it back from being truly great. I found both characters got caught quite often on invisible objects either when dashing or jumping. Since you want to be constantly moving when playing as Strife it caused a fair amount of grief as I took unneeded damage (especially at harder difficulties). The forced platforming element for Leviathan's Landing (optional puzzle area) is an exercise in torture, its really poorly thought out. The Dagon fight also had some questionable design decisions, with being knocked off the edge restarting the map back at the beginning (the enemies tend to make you bounce uncontrollably in this fight).

The game also supports co-op, but I wasn’t able to test this feature. From what I’ve read it can make the game much harder but could make the game an enjoyable couch co-op venture.

Graphics
Other than the above mentions, the stage design and graphics were really well done. Each stage is highly detailed, and usually multi levelled. The puzzles were designed well, not really difficult at all and fairly generous with time and mainly used to break up the fighting. Both horsemen can ride their horses in some stages, which lets you reap the mob enemies. Each stage has plenty of hidden collectables (there’s a map for each stage that shows you where they are), and a few side quests that for performing certain feats. There’s plenty of variety in the stages design (foundry’s full of lava, battlements under siege, poison swamps ect). Most of the games cinematics are told in a story book fashion (loosely animated) with pages turning. I would have loved to have seen these produced with the same quality as the games intro, but they serve well enough to keep the plot moving after major events. Enemy design was good, and while some skins are reused it’s fairly easy to tell them apart. Each enemy has a telegraphed attack (they flash yellow) to show when the attack is about to launch. Bosses were designed well (except Dagon), and even then that’s more a stage mechanic than bad design.

Music
As with the other games in the series the soundtrack is very good. There’s plenty of tracks, and they cycle nicely on each stage, never eclipsing the action. Lots of the tracks are interwoven with string instrumentation or heavy on the orchestral vibe, which really suits this game well.

All the major character’s voice acting and dialogue was excellent, the initial bickering and joking between War and Strife that turns into something deeper as they confront what they have given up and received in return to become the horseman. Samael dialogue drips with menace and a promise of punishment to those who go against his wishes. Some of the mob enemies (skeletons and zombies) I felt could have used some work and additional lines to break things up.

Achievements
The game is quite easy to get 100% achievements for, compared to previous entries in the series. The hardest difficulty setting isn’t as bad as it sounds (as you can kite also every encounter with Strife), the arena is a lot quicker to get through, and each stages map shows where collectables are

This is definitely the game I enjoyed the least in the franchise. Felt like a quick cash grab. This game is too much of a grind to be strong enough to progress through the main story. I just found that very unpleasant. The camera angles are just awful. The platforming is ridiculous because of the perspective. If you can pick this up for 80% off or more, then its worth it, full price is definitely not worth it. The story itself was bland and uninteresting as well, not to mention the cheap attempt at humour. TLDR 5/10

A buggy mess. Played cooperative for over 20 hours, getting stuck everywhere, invisible walls, chapters with opened gates for one player, but closed for the other. Not to mention the crashes of the game itself. Absolute disappointment.

The game is good, like all Darksiders. For immersion in lore will do.
But let those who created puzzles and skipping ropes burn at once in all hellish worlds! Crooked controls, a crooked camera, a character that takes a ridiculously long time to get up after a dash. It's not hard, it's DAMN.

Expecting a mediocre spin-off, I went into this game hoping to extract a few hours of fun and that the developers wouldn't butcher the lore too hard.

I ended up having a blast. Genesis leans way more heavily into glorious hack-n-slash chaos than Darksiders 3, to its credit; and features a loot system that adds a great layer of customization in terms of stats and abilities.

Some of the best things about the game: the combat translates surprisingly well to an isometric view, and I found myself switching often between War and Strife for different combat situations, which goes to show how much fun they are to control individually and how balanced they are. Combat is super fluid for the most part, and feels even better after unlocking and mastering certain moves such as War's parry-counter. Replayability is thankfully easy.

It's also great to hear characters' voice actors return for their roles, and Strife's does a great job of fitting into the role: he somehow sounds exactly as you'd expect, and the banter he has with War is one of the highlights of the game. One con to this is that War is sometimes dumbed-down in order for Strife's jokes to work, but I can overlook this as it rarely happens and the dialogue for the two is really good, if not outstanding. Special mention goes to Astarte's voice actor too, who surprised me with her intensity during combat.

The music is Genesis is awesome. One of the best OST's I've heard recently, and together with the combat it elevates the peaks of the game to another level.

I'm also happy that Darksiders still looks like Darksiders. The art style carries through to the cutscenes, the UI, and the healthy diversity of locations that look larger-than-life.

Cons include platforming and level collisions. It's unfortunate because Darksiders traditionally has solid platforming, but the isometric view made this clunky at times. Leviathan's Landing is unfairly difficult, and feels frustrating probably because it leans on the game's weaknesses instead of its strengths.

The story also leaves something to be desired. It's fine, but it ends on a cliffhanger (a series staple at this point, lol) and hints at a lot of narrative threads that will hopefully be touched on in future entries.

The amount of fun I had with Darksiders Genesis heavily outweighs any flaws the game has and I heartily recommend it, especially for fans of the series.

Double trouble

After nearly 10 years since the release of the first Darksiders game, fans of the franchise at long last had the chance to see the final Horseman of the Apocalypse step into the spotlight. Meet Strife, the mischievous trickster of the quartet, set apart from his siblings foremost by a preference for guns rather than melee. Frankly, distinct weapon of choice will be the least of changes that Darksiders Genesis brings to the table. After deservedly mixed reception of Darksiders 3, THQ Nordic resolved to not risk losing again at their own game, so instead they changed the rules entirely.

Being a prequel/spin-off, Darksiders Genesis sheds the third-person action game formula of the previous titles, instead becoming a fully-blown hack and slash. The game also discards its RPG elements and downplays the narrative in favour of the world seen from above, even more enemies and flashier combos. However, the furthest departure from the previous trilogy is the introduction of co-op. On the orders of the Charred Council, Strife is joined by War, in a bid to prevent a mysterious ploy by Lucifer. The game is visibly designed with co-op in mind, alas having a friend to play along with is highly recommended for the best experience. That said, the game is fully adjusted to also be available for a single player.

Ruin and Mayhem
Simply put, this title opens with a bang. Horsemen begin their adventure riding straight into the battle between rival demon armies. Yes, riding. Given the peculiar nature of horse riding throughout the series, having the steeds available immediately feels positively refreshing. War and Strife seek to question Samael, leader of the defending side. Heedless of the events unfolding around them, the duo proceeds with an indiscriminate slaughter of all demons who dare stand in their way. The devil himself, while cordial, is somewhat preoccupied with his fortress being under siege, sending the horsemen into safety of the void, promising answers upon his return. In Darksiders Genesis, the void serves as an all-purpose hub, allowing level transition, shopping for upgrades and even a significant part of story dialogue is conducted there.

Right from get go, the game delivers a sensation of the Horsemen being an unstoppable force on the battlefield. Fitting, as fighting is clearly the main course of the game. Combat system is simple yet satisfying, providing visually spectacular abilities and a number of easy to execute combos. Yet, there is a degree of depth to Genesis’ combat due to timed dodges and parries. Furthermore, the duo gathers a wide variety of options, either better suited to combat a specific enemy type or to create a powerful synergy with your co-op companion. Definitely, the room for experimentation is there.

Veterans of the franchise will quickly piece together what makes Genesis go so far as to be called a spin-off. The game is overtly a Darksiders title, built with familiar blocks, going back to repurpose mechanics and abilities already seen in the series to the new perspective. This is also true for the cast, filled with familiar faces and voices. However, the game no longer has an open world gradually unlocked via new abilities. Genesis has a much more rigid structure, being level-based and having each chapter of the game followed by the duo’s return to the void. Furthermore, the story aspect of the game has been reduced to a point where the game can be easily enjoyed by those who tend to skip dialogue entirely. Combined with the changes already mentioned, Genesis is different enough to make any further comparisons with previous games redundant.

Elemental extravaganza
To the game’s credit, there are plenty of new ideas brought to the table. Especially noteworthy is the two-fold character progression system. With the exception of few puzzle-related trinkets, the Horsemen don’t change their equipment. Instead, the player gradually collects elemental enhancements and cores, which improve health and wrath – Darksiders’ equivalent of mana. Alas, Strife’s gun can eventually shoot tiny black holes, while War’s sword summons whirlwinds with mere swing of its blade. Both Strife and War have their own respective set of upgrades, so there is a lot to look out for.

On that note, you had probably seen many games follow that path. However, Genesis also has a second, more unique progression system of creature cores. Every enemy in the game may drop their essence, which becomes a collectible for the Horsemen’s dedicated upgrade tree. Being divided into 3 major categories – attack, health and wrath, creature cores have an impressive diversity of effects, allowing the player to tailor the characters to any playstyle. As a cherry on top, the cores become an extra incentive for replaying chapters, as based on the amount of copies gathered by the player each core can level up. Be it a run for secrets or an attempt at beating a level-specific challenge, there is always a reward for completion. Moreover, cores translate to a power score, giving the player digestible information on how well they are prepared (or overpowered) for the next level.

Sky is the ceiling
Aforementioned levels of Darksiders Genesis are by no means small, often containing a number of secret areas or entire sub-levels in the form of dungeons. Sadly, hunting for collectibles hidden throughout is essentially a mandatory activity in this title. Alas, across every map a number of Boatman’s Coins is strewn – a currency secondary to souls, necessary to purchase new moves or more powerful upgrades for the Horsemen. Ignoring these naturally is an option, however completionists are going to have a significantly more powerful characters at their disposal towards the end of the game. Take note, the final boss is quite a challenge compared to the rest of the game.

Probably the game’s biggest issue is related to the shift in perspective. Time and time again, Genesis looks as if the skybox was too low and the camera struggled against some invisible obstacle to properly portray the player’s surroundings. The issue can be observed by the camera going oddly out of focus or occasionally being way too close. The latter is especially intrusive as the game has a number of platforming sections which are often portrayed from a confusing perspective. Alas, this aspect of the game tends to be frustrating as leaping next to the ledge rather than onto it quickly becomes a commonplace.

Riding into the sunset
While it’s not perfect, Darksiders Genesis introduced some much needed fresh air into the franchise. Exchanges between War and Strife are quite hilarious and quickly establish an upbeat chemistry between the two. Frankly, the game succeeds in almost everything it sets out to do, with somewhat wonky platforming, ultimately being uplifted by genuinely fun combat. Emphasis on cooperative aspect is executed perfectly and opens interesting possibilities in regards to potential ultimate Darksiders game, starring all of the Horsemen. Admittedly, I don’t expect any news of Darksiders 4 in foreseeable future, nonetheless Genesis proves that this franchise definitely still has places to go and I am looking forward to further entries in the series. Even if they don’t include numbers in the title.

GOOD: One of the only games of this style, there are not many progression based CO-OP rpgs out there. This game is perfect for my girlfriend and I. Gives off very borderlands dialogue vibe, and a kind of castle crashers esque gameplay. Amazing scripting and voice acting. Fun exploration, hard difficulties, reasons for replayability. Arena is fun and good for practice, but it doesn't explain WHAT you should do to get higher scores.

BAD: Extremely lazy collisioning in most places of the game, easy to get stuck, fall out of the world, etc. As war, when I am trying to execute, a lot of times I fall through the floor, or the enemies fall through the floor (including bosses) which means I lose the cores and loot. Controls are fine*, I don't know why people were saying they are clunky, but they are a lot better on controller for sure.

Overall: This game is fun if you can get past some unfair clipping problems, and if you have someone to play with that is also interested. Even through all of the bad collision, my girlfriend and I are having a blast. The characters are fun, so if you are more interested in the story and don't care much about the gameplay aspects, then by all means go for it! Exploration is definitely recommended for progression, it makes the game a lot easier when you get a bunch of resources to buy upgrades.

*One minor thing that kinda bugs me as a pet peeve is the fact that you can't run and the only way to go faster is by dashing, which is so LENGTHY as War that it leads to you hitting the edge of the camera, so it's not the most useful tool to move with, until you get more practice in to get used to it.

Despite the change of the camera, this game is extremely close to core DS formula. It's an adventure game, with optional coop. Strife plays like a thwin-stick shooter, while War has his DS1 slasher combat carefuly recreated and augmented with new moves. There will also be puzzles between the combat sections, with occasional backtracking.

VIsual style is fantastic, carrying the middle of the road graphics on its back. Combat is extremely fun. Story does require some understanding of who the hell are all those people, but is really well written otherwise.

There are issues however - controls are somewhat unresponsive, camera angles and WASD movement take some getting used to, and some interactive objects (like aiming at torches, or grabbing some ledges) may or may not register an activation on them. Nothing gamebreaking, but it can get annoying at places.

Overall - an absolute musthave for the fans of the series, and a slightly rough but good game for random people just looking for adventure/coop play.

I played this game because I wanted more of the Darksiders story. I was not disappointed, but it has few problems that need to be resolved. Nothing game-breaking, far from it, but having the game crash a couple of times and seeing enemies falling through the floor can be a turn-off for some people.
After finishing the story, I found myself craving for a proper epilogue of the saga. I hope it does not get abandoned.

It's a bit short and quite different than other games in this franchise, but I enjoyed it. The leviathan's maze was the biggest negative aspect about this game. Never bothered trying to finish it after completing the first portion. Stupid idea for a game like this and poorly executed. The customizable ability upgrades gives you a lot of options for different play styles, and if you optimize them well it is very satisfying and makes for a very fluid experience.

Was expecting more from this DS tbh. Even since they've announced the CO-OP, I was really hoping it wont be total dezaster.

PROS :
- Cool graphics
- Cool mechanics
- Good Co-Op sync
- New approach of the game
- Strife lines are really funny

CONS :
- Lack of freedom as we had in the previous versions of the game
- Incoming volume will ruin your sound if you play with headsets
- The story is not really metching with DS3 - Fury

This is the first Darksiders game I have played and I must say that I can't wait to play the rest! I have played the whole game in co-op and I really enjoyed it. If your partner struggles to do something specific to his character, then you can press the buttons to swap characters, as both of the characters have a unique fighting style. The game also has a really nice story and gameplay. While most of the game consists of fighting enemies, but you also solve a lot of puzzles to complete each level. Every level also has different achievements or goals which is really nice to try and collect them all. Creature cores make your game better and easier. You need to arrange them correctly in your skill tree to get better abilities.

The game is visually gorgeous and the art style is just spectacular!! Every now and then you will get to a place where you just stop and admire the work for a while. Even the enemies are just insanely well done.

The audio of the game is also really nice. It is not repetitive or annoying like some other RPG games. I did not feel the need to mute my game once and I did not skip any part of the game. Some of the audio are a lot louder than other parts and therefore it would be best not to have your audio too high as it will be a problem in certain areas.

The gameplay itself is really nice. I had some buggy areas where you get stuck behind a tree or rock, but if you summon your horse a few times, then you will be able to get out of the area and will not remain stuck. If this does not work, I saw that if you swap characters, then you will also be able to move. Other than that it was really nice to play and my fps did not drop during gameplay. In some areas it did freeze while loading, but only for a few seconds and it did not affect my gameplay experience at all.

Overall I think this is a game that most gamers will love to play!!

In a nutshell
My honest opinion of the game
Story: Intriguing, not boring.

Combat / Gameplay: Pretty fun and poggers.

Difficulty: Well balanced. A good challenge on higher difficulties.

Puzzles: Not that hard, but fun to figure out and accomplish.

Upgrade system / shop: Good enough. Doesn't require much grinding.

Backtracking for missed items: Not frustrating, kind of important if you want ALL upgrades / item chests, for higher difficulties and 100% completion

Replayability: high-ish. Arena mode has great replaying value. Didn't get boring for me. Especially when replaying chapters to get items that I missed.

Aside from the copious amounts of bugs in Co-op game play, the ending to Darksiders Genesis is frustratingly unsatisfying and abrupt. Did the developers just give up?
You're left feeling like the hours you put into the game were for nothing. The story leads you on and builds up excitement that a certain character is going to be the final boss and a big battle will occur. Instead you're met with credits and a short cut scene. That's it, game over.

I really wanted to like this game—I liked the main Darksiders games and I didn't mind the fact this was a spin-off. Unfortunately, the sheer jankiness of everything in this made me stop playing this game. The other Darksiders were never polished masterpieces, but they were nowhere near as bad as this game is.

- The camera is absolutely terrible, and you have 0 control over it. Some puzzles seemed impossible until I happened to get just the right position to get the camera to change, revealing something that was invisible before. It's so bad I even died a handful of times because the camera was so close to the ceiling I couldn't see where I was supposed to jump to. I also died to an enemy attacking me from off-screen.

- The controls are a little wonky, inconsistent and poorly explained. This is especially true in co-op, where your partner might or might not see the tutorials for new items at all. There is also no way of looking at said tutorials after the fact, which means we got stuck on some puzzle. We knew exactly what to do, but we didn't know which buttons to press.

- The game mechanics are wonky too. After a sudden difficulty spike (mentioned below), I died in a boss fight. Now, your co-op partner can revive you, but 1) the button to revive your partner is the same button that executes enemies, and executions take priority. So if you're unlucky, you simply cannot revive your partner. 2) There is no grace period after getting revived. Enemies start attacking you while you're stuck in the reviving animation, and kill you before you get a chance to dodge out of the way.

All of this was just annoying but we could ignore at first, until a sudden difficulty spike really highlighted all the issues we were having with this game, and there wasn't really anything that stood out enough to make us keep going. This game could've been really fun but the sheer jank of it all is really holding it back.

I will say upfront that if you love the Darksiders series you will most likely enjoy this installment as well. It is more of a spin off rather than part of the larger story the bigger games try to embrace. I am playing it in co-op and we are having a good time, laughing a lot and getting really frustrated at the camera angles at times or the puzzle mechanics. Especially my friend laughing at me (I am horrible at at parkour puzzles). And I will admit sometimes the camera angle really is a bother and probably the most negative aspect of this game.

That aside the music is good, and the visual design is good. The humor of the characters is always enjoyable. I love the banter between War and Strife, War is straight laced and duty bound while Strife is snarky and witty (he reminds me of Deadpool). Also you can interchange the characters between you and a friend so you can both experience the strengths and abilities of both characters at any time in the game. Also I love riding my hell steed around too!

It kind of goes without saying that the game has upgrades and abilities you can purchases with souls you collect in game as currency. Also potions. The usual stuff you would find in action rpg's like this one.

A fun game with a friend for sure and we got it on a steep sale so it made it more enjoyable. I don't know if I would pay full price for this game but it was well worth the sale price. ????

Honestly, it's so much better then i expected, it's curently my favorite Darksiders game, i was wating for fast pacing combat like in Hades, puzzles are pretty clever, or at least not completetly taken from previos games, the War is an actual character finaly, the music (which is a huge criteria for me these days) is the best among Darksiders games, i only wish i had a controller and a friend to exprierince this game with.

It is a fun game but there's a lot of annoying bugs, playing this game can be quite frustrating at times. Worth getting when it is on sale for a cheap price. The annoying bugs made my friend rage quit and uninstalled the game. Please fix these problems.

The most annoying bug was in Chapter 1, after me and my friend killed a boss and rode the elevator down, I fell off a cliff and was teleported back before the 2 levers that requires both of us to activate in order to continue, we were frustrated and decided to call it a day.

In my opinion it is worth buying and playing :)
It is not too long, not too short, funny and you can stop/resume anytime you want.

Pros
- Isometric view was interesting
- Dynamic fight where you have to go out
- Story is naive and short but it is hack’n’slash, interesting enough
- Availbalbe to play in co-op on a split screen
- Nice humor and comic cut scenes
- Interesting development mechanics

Cons:
- I encountered some minor gliches, but they do not affect the game.
- The minimap is somehow !@#%
- I would expect bigger massacre :(
- God i hate those: multitude of puzzles, secrets and collectibles -> where you have to jump on some !@#%$ platform.
- Too small variety of weapons -> rarely used all of them.

I played Darksiders and Darksiders 2. I could say Darksiders Genesis is great after 10 Hours of rage. As much as i love this game. You got everything from the previous games plus Strife and new powers. You even got skins. You got a complete new level up system with the creature cores. The new camera is great too. What can i say, this game is basically perfect. If there wouldnt be tons of bugs and glitches. Every single time i boot up the game i gotta prepare for another rage session cause one time he is throwing the bombs trough obstacles, the other time he gets softlocked. And the shuriken. Everytime you got to explode a bomb with them it takes minutes to figure out how you gotta throw them. In the first game you could at least target all bombs or torches you needed. Im literally losing my mind with this game. I want to love it but i hardly can. This franchise was so good. Anyway, im giving it a solid three star rating.

I was a big fan of the original Darksiders when it came out - I got 100% completion on my 360 and when a sequel got announced I was hyped. However, the sequels did not draw me in nearly as well as the original, and I grew weary of the series.

Genesis goes a different route and manages to capture the lore and story of the Darksiders universe in a pretty tight and consistent package. The main campaign doesn't overstay its welcome - there are maybe one or two levels that could have been a bit shorter - and the game feels great to play (WITH A CONTROLLER, AT LEAST. M+K CONTROLS ARE NOT FUN). I enjoyed the level of character customisation afforded to me and found myself experimenting with different builds to do better in the Arena. The game rewards precise play and you can become quite strong by the end once you've collected everything from the stages.

However - the postgame leaves a lot to be desired. There's an optional boss fight that is very out of place and not especially challenging, the aforementioned Arena, and... playing through the whole game again on a higher difficulty.

Oh yeah! And Leviathan's Landing. A semi-optional platforming challenge so brutally unforgiving that most guides will just tell you to do the first third of it and then give up. It might have been easier if the game was designed for precision platforming, but it is not. It might have been easier if the game was free of often glitchy hitboxes and random dropped inputs, but it is not.

Leviathan's Landing notwithstanding, the game's pretty good. As a fan of the original I enjoyed the time I had with it. Wait for a sale if you're on the fence.

I find them isometric beat-em up games tedious. With a few exceptions (e.g. Victor Vran) they tire me. Thing is, I actually like the Darksiders' story. So I decided to give this game a go. I can say I like it. Classic Darksiders scenario told through a low budget medium... The action is not overly taxing and the puzzles are just barely there to slow your progress... I guess I like the RPG aspect of Victor Vran a bit better, but this is a good game if you are into isometric beat-em up games.

In the end I'm giving a thumps down, although I like Darksiders 1+2 a lot.
Here are my reasons: Xbox gamepad didn't help solving some super clunky and imprecise jumping and throwing riddles. Gathering stuff and jumping 20 times after an object was harder than all bossfights combined.
At the end the story ended abruptly.

However not a single crash in my playthrough.

Very fun game, very great coop system, but such a disappointing endgame. I'd 100% recommend buying and playing this game, but do expect to be let down by the endgame. It feels like there were supposed to be 2 or 3 more levels that just got cut and pushed into a lame cinematic at the end (which really, really should've been gameplay, not exposition).

Pros:
- Satisfying combat with great supplementary abilities. Enemy executions are really fun!
- Fun platforming and puzzles.
- Great co-op. Really fun going at it with a friend.
- Plenty of collectibles to be found. Collectibles can be traded with merchants for power enhancements.
- Gorgeous terrain maps.
- Good audio and voice acting!
- Decent story. Ending is a bit of a cliff-hanger.

Cons:
- Background structures sometimes obscure camera view making it difficult to navigate freely. It's hard fighting enemies obscured by the environment, although you can see an outline of those enemies as well as yourself.
- Bugs where character can get stuck in places. The player can jump out of many of these stuck situations but some times it is not possible.
- Map doesn't have an option to snap to the character's position.

The graphics are amazing. At times the gameplay is awesome. But sadly, game design choices make this gorgeous looking game a frustration. The game falls flat on its face when it comes to the camera. You'll be pulling out your hair for ten minutes only to find out the key to solving your current puzzle was an inch off the screen. It's made all the worse with the cyan eye bleeding blue x-ray vision whenever your character goes behind a foreground wall. Even The Sims 3 knew you make the foreground wall fall/fade away so you don't slaughter the player's immersion. Camera changes, even the ability to zoom out a bit with the mouse wheel would have made this game so much better.

Buddy of mine gave me this game so we could co-op it as we are both big darksiders 1 & 2 fans.
DS 3 was certainly a very different game (obv dif developer) but tried to stick to the main points of the first two and was okay game.
This is a very different style, and not just because of the 3rd person viewpoint.
The biggest negatives I have with the game are threefold.
1. Strife.. they tried to make him Deadpool basically. It just doesn't work or fit with any of the horsemen.
2. Co-op is clunky - the most annoying aspect is collectibles are not shared so you both still have to go collect everything individually even in co-op.
3. The ending. While its one thing to leave a cliff hanger for the next in a series..they literally just stopped in the first 1/3 of a story. You just barely are getting into the story and all the sudden that is it. game over. If the credits didn't roll you would never know its the end.

There are a slew of minor annoyances throughout the game involved with the physics of trying to make this a 3rd person game I think; and some of the movement puzzles, while doable, are just insanely frustrating.
Still a solid game and for anyone die-hard darksiders fan a must, just understand it is yet again a new developer and will not feel like ds1, 2, or even 3.

I have been playing the main series from War, Strife until Fury and can confirm that this game is the best Darksiders game so far. Didn't expect I would have so much fun playing Darksiders Genesis, and this game is more fun if you play it co-op with your friends. Gameplay (Combat and Skills Progression) is top-notch even though it doesn't share the same gameplay mechanics with the main series.

Combat is super fun but can be daunting at the beginning to familiarize the skills for Strife and War as you will need to use both of them through out the game. A bit of downside as I have encountered several terrain bugs causing War or Strife being stuck and some side quest might not be rewarding enough.

A good addition to the Darksiders Saga. It's really just an isometric beat em up. not too much dungeon crawling. Not too many winding maze like areas. Easy to get around maps. Not much of a learning curve, but relatively in-depth gameplay. Easy to revisit missions and create builds of the characters as you progress, which makes it unique. The coop isn't very easy to use and could be better, but the ability to swap between characters during a single player campaign is excellent. A 4 player version of this with all horsemen would be awesome as well. I hope they create the 4th game soon. It seems like with Strife, they may mix in Devil May Cry style guns/hack&slash gameplay with him, which would be a perfect fit. Making each game a bit different has kept me interested. I've been a Joe Mad fan for a long time, so that alone is what sparked my initial interest in the series. I just wish there was more of a push behind games like this rather than buggy cookie cutter cash grabs most companies keep shoveling out. The Darksiders games have been pretty polished and interesting enough to replay. Even at full price, this game has a great amount of content and feels like a solid entry into the series. If you haven't played the others, you might get lost a bit with the story, but for the most part, the entire lore is intertwined well enough that each entry's story can be played in any order without it being confusing. The mythology isn't too difficult to follow, but you don't really have to understand or follow any of it to enjoy the games and replaying them allows you to make connections you might have missed after playing other games in the series. Definitely worth a purchase.

DS:G is mix of aRPG and platformer. It's a must play for Darksiders fans as it covers some of Strife story (not whole but it's better than nothing).

Graphics are nice, game is isometric, effects of skills are ok.
Audio stands on high level, music is awesome, really enjoyable specially in couple last chapters of the game.

Storywise all is happening before first Darksiders game giving you perspective why events in DS1 are happening and what caused them.

You can finish the game probably in around ~8hours if you don't care about all secrets/achievements or playing on highest difficulty - I'd say if you want to finish game for story get it on discount but if you like Darksiders overall full price is ok for how much content you get (I've spent ~25 hours to max out almost everything, I did all of the achievements, there are couple challenges from game itself that I didn't care much to finish atm).

Final verdict: 8/10

This game is very good and I can definitely recommend it. The gameplay is fun and fast paced. The visuals and the music add to the experience. There are occasional glitches in the game and some of the platforming elements can be annoying due to the camera and the way the characters respond to input. However if you've played the previous Darksiders games, you have to play this one. You're gonna love the dynamic between Strife and War!

This game is very complex in a way, and it needs a bit of a time to learn all moves and the whole control of characters. But once you mastered it, you can do humongous things. After like 40 hours of playtime you will be able to achive all stuffs and fully reach the achievements and journal. To complete the story it takes around 30 hours of playing. But after that, the fun begins. In Endless Arena you can reach the heighest scores where, for example i'm holding the World Record with 1,055,209 AP . All in one i highly recommend this game.

I like all the darksiders games, so getting some coop seemed like a good idea.
And it was :)
It´s a different feel in it as when compared to playing the solo games, but not in a bad way.
Often coopgames may be quite a bit worse in many aspects compared to solid singleplayercounterparts and still be worthwhile to play just because coop-fun, but i felt like Genesis was pretty solid in most aspects all the way through.

Good game! The game is pretty much Darksiders but in an isometric view set up, think Diablo series. There's a mixture of iso-hack and slash and dual stick shooting combat. I found my experience with the game to be thoroughly satisfying. As a big fan of these type of game Darksider Genesis fills the crave i have for this genre. This game is definitely a must own for fans of the Darksider franchise and pretty much fans who love isometric hack and slash games. Worth the purchase.

a different view and gameplay to the darksiders franchise i've grown to love. devs made the right decision as this isometric view is the best to the 4th horsemen strife. as a range gunmen .. strife is difficult to be portrayed in a close up melee centric gameplay.

the art.. the environment.. the atmosphere. the gameplay is truly an enjoying experience. i'm more of a KBM (keyboard+mouse gamer) and i would say game is much easier with the mouse. however platforming is much more difficult with WASD.

on the contrary controller fares better with platforming and directional movement.. but targeting is no match for the mouse.

thoroughly enjoying the game. KBM takes some time to get used to. once mastered .. 10/10 game.

Between this games f'd up camera and some of its jump puzzles being nearly impossible (at least for me), I'm having to rate an otherwise excellent and fun game negative. The simple fact is you may have hours of fun, come to a complete screeching halt because of a stupid jump puzzle with some hidden hook you need to find to fling your dude off the screen. STUPID, STUPID mechanic to put into an ARPG like this..

I just quit playing this game now for the second time in two days SOLELY due to a jump puzzle irritating me into frustration enough to just quit the game and go play something that's not coded by masochists. Honestly, Id refund the stupid game if Id not already played past the allowed limit already.

Let me start by saying that this game is actually pretty good. If you like to play games casually, this is definitely a game to try. The main game is fun, quippy, and presents interesting challenges.

But why didn't I recommend this game? You see, I like many other gamers, like to collect everything and get the achievements. I derive fun from doing hard stuff and getting superficial achievements. This game has a section that has nothing to do with the main game, made only for people like me. Made only to punish people like me. I don't mind punishing challenges if controls were good and bugs were gone. Leviathan's Landing (google it if you want to know), is beyond challenging, it's sadistic. I somehow was able to beat the first 2 parts and much of the 3rd part. But the very last bit has me so infuriated that the game as a whole is no longer fun for me. The whole thing lost its luster because I know that the devs put something in there that isn't optional for people who want to collect all the cores. There is nothing that makes it easier, either. You can't get upgrades to make it easier. You must have absolutely perfect, repetitive timing with button inputs or else you will not succeed. Honestly, good for the few players who were able to actually beat it. But I am disgusted by the developers. There are hundreds of players who want to complete this challenge, but cannot because of the extreme level of difficulty. No, I don't want to be given it on a silver platter. I wanted to succeed at a well-made, challenging puzzle. The 2nd part and parts of the 3rd part, were pretty good, in that respect. The 1st section and the final section of the 3rd part is so unfun that I have lost interest in the game as a whole. In addition, I have lost respect for the devs.

TLDR: Game is good, just don't ever try Leviathan's Landing. It will kill your love for this game and make you lose trust in the devs.

The core of the game is solid and fun but it needs a lot of bug ironing. A whole fucking lot of it.

The pathfinding and collision in with the elements of the map is just indie amateur time level, you get stuck literally with rocks on the ground and have to force clipping with switching to the other character. I can imagine they reused the original darksiders engine because it does feel like the original games in movement and mechanics and that is cool, but they should have tested it better because control problems arise inmediately.

Also, using keyboard and mouse with Strife can lead to certain situations of him firing past the enemy because they are not on the same height like a ramp or stairs. Strife can't do a deadeye shot on a ramp like you can do in every game of this kind, it's embarrasing.

Not worth on full price, I payed half and I'm still not convinced. After almost a year after release, these kind of bugs are unacceptable for a AA game.

This is a good ARPG, a different perspective for the series but well executed in that regard. It is a worthy addition to your library. Game engine is unreal 4. I'm being vague purposely because i don't like spoiling the game play mechanics, though I'll give a few details. While technically really is the same as any other darksider game, it's just from a different view point. Camera is fixed and auto adjusts depending where you go. It works fine and adds challenge to some puzzles.

Most of the learning curve was getting used to the camera and angles, sometimes it is hard to tell how far you are away from swing hooks and walls but i think that just adds to the challenge i don't see it as a flaw. Other then that, I felt the game wasn't to tedious to play. It feels like any other darksider game, game play wise. Combat flows well and having 2 chars to use on the fly adds to the fun.

Each char may be more or less useful during some puzzles and versus some enemies, though their uses are pretty straightforward. This review is based on single player experience. Maybe in the future i'll try some split screen co-op. I'm sure that will be pretty interesting.

On to some technical specs I am on FX8320 and RX580 i run this game wide open (though I frame limit intentionally at 67 FPS@1080p) so if you min spec'ed you'll be fine long as you are not trying to aim for 120+FPS that is lol.

Darksiders Genesis is of the most fun to play games of the recent times. The story is very light, but does drive the game forward, so can't complain much. The comic book style artwork is exquisite and the level design is varied and fantastic. Where this game excels is gameplay. There are tons of puzzles and hidden items. The boss fights are vibrant and fun. The banter between War and Strife is quite amusing. I played solo, but, I imagine playing with a friend in Co-Op with be a blast.

Well overall not a bad game. i mean the story is for 12 year olds, but thats ok. also in coop it can be fun and there is a decent amount of upgrades, but in the end the camera and little bugs were too much. Maybe get it during a sale. Funny thing though is that i still think its better than the 2 and second darksiders.

I feel really bad to say this, but I think Darksiders Genesis is the first game in the series I won't be completing. At least, I highly doubt that happening unless I force myself to play every now and then.

I started the game back in June, and now it's August, and I've played it on and off hoping I would get more interested in it. But the more I play, the more generic it feels, and the less interested I am.

There's nothing wrong with the characters, generally speaking. I still enjoy War and I like Strife's personality, along with most of the recurring characters.

Where the game is faltering for me is the gameplay. It's just not holding my interest. The first Darksiders was somewhat of a hack-and-slash with puzzles, and was generally fun. Darksiders II was honestly my favorite, as I 100%'d the game and actually played it twice. I enjoyed the world of the 2nd game, and it felt like I was progressing through something as I continued along. I would say that Darksiders III was weaker, but I'm a fan of its combat style (in the vein of games like Dark Souls, though it wasn't as good as those games) and its boss battles kept me intrigued.

But then we come to Darksiders Genesis and we have this generic-ized top-down shooter/slasher. I'm about halfway through the game and I pretty much feel like I'm fighting the same enemies over and over, with a lot of them having slightly changed abilities or different skins. I like Strife as a character but his gameplay gets boring since it's spamming bullets (or a few different guns) most of the time. He can do melee but isn't that strong at it unless you activate a powered-up mode. War can still be a bit more fun in the old hack-and-slash way, like back in the first game, but the top-down view makes it less interesting for me.

In the earlier games, enemies could be all sorts of scale and have lots of variety since you get to see everything from different angles and move around. Shifting to top-down view gives less room to do things, in my opinion. As already said, enemies don't feel too different as I go along, regardless of appearance. Combat is pretty stale by now because it's primarily dashing and attacking without much planning. The camera also changes the way you have to move, limits your functionality, and makes certain areas more annoying to deal with.

Like I said at the beginning, I probably won't finish this game unless I force myself to over the next few months. It's disappointing given how much I generally liked (and loved) the earlier games. But this big shift in camera and gameplay style seems to be what has killed my interest.

I bought this cause I wanted an online co-op.
Its buggy as fuck, and the jump puzzles are indeed a pain.
But everything else from that makes cooping this game pretty great and I would highly recommend.
I have no Darksiders background and just wanted a mindless rpg coop

again, I really do recommend

I have never prematurely uninstalled a game due to buggy issues, and this one won't beat me either, but it was a struggle getting through it. Despite that, I would still recommend it because the developers did put a lot of love into the game which I can appreciate. Overall, solid game play bogged down by a lot of technical issues. 6.5/10.

Well, here it is. I gave it over 30 hours of gameplay...
This game was either never tested or tested by an audience who didn't care.
Music is amazing.
Graphics are top-notch.
Storyline is okay, and funny enough to be considered well thought out.
But it ends there.
The camera angles are rigid and frustrating to an extreme degree at times. Simple platformer tasks like, jumping on platforms, is sometimes impossible without 15 tries. All because of the odd camera angles.
The glitches ... oh so many glitches. Collectibles not registering in your inventory; Getting stuck in walls ... or sometimes just getting stuck in a wide open room; Gamepad controls becoming unresponsive until you unplug and replug the controller(s) in; And many many more.
I paid good money for this game and I can't get a return at this point, so i WILL complete it. But man it's frustrating at times.
I would maybe wait until more patches come out... Or maybe its better on consoles.

It may look different to other Darksiders games but it plays essentially the same. Instead of controlling the camera with the right stick (or mouse though I always choose controller for these games) you control the direction you are aiming towards. I think it is a great installment to the series and is probably more enjoyable than 3.

The game is also the best running one so far. Not limited to 60 fps and it looks very well put together and polished relative to the other ones.

Darksiders Genesis is a very well balanced and a fun co-op, isometric ARPGish hack n slash and I'm gonna be honest, it feels more Darksiders than Darksiders 3. No one asked for a souls-like combat back then but I can't say it didn't work. It worked nice but it didn't even feel like Darksiders... at least for me.

Gameplay is a lot like first Darksiders and isometric view works great, especially for Strife. I'd like to write about how co-op works but sadly, I haven't had anyone to play co-op nor I needed one since I prefer to play games like this solo and the best thing about Genesis was that it has no co-op achievements. Whole game can be done by playing solo, even on highest difficulty, you won't have any problems. You acquire new powers and gear as you progress through the game and you use them to destroy your enemies or solve puzzles along the way, just like the first Darksiders. Game has some amazing puzzles, by the way.

I don't want to talk about the story since everything I write will spoil something for you so I'll just say that it's a prequel with a good twist at the end. There aren't fully animated cutscenes sadly but they work fine. This isn't a budget title anyway. However, soundtracks are REALLY good! I certainly didn't expect them to be THIS good! I'd highly suggest buying the Digital Deluxe edition just for the soundtracks.

That's Darksiders Genesis for you. If you're looking for a well-balanced game to play, grab it. It's really fun and the dialogue between War & Strife gets really interesting. I almost regret playing this game solo... almost.

Great entry to the series. It really is just isometric Darksiders if you've played the previous installations. I enjoyed playing as Strife due to the combat with him reminding me of Ruiner which I also really enjoyed.

+ Puzzles were clever
+ A lot of throwbacks to previous games with sounds and gear and characters
+ Decent platforming
+ Very stylish with combat and executions
+ Liked the idea of the Treasure Map. We'll show you where things are and it's up to you to figure out how to get to it. No pixel hunting.
+ Soundtrack is amazing. Probably the best in the series.
+ Voice acting is good as always.
+ Liked the arena format of just needing to do 10 waves so you can take it a bit at a time.
+ Creature core upgrade system was interesting and fun to tinker with.

- Wasn't a fan of the slide show cut scenes.
- Glitchy at times. You'll get stick in the environment, weird graphical glitches, but nothing that makes it unplayable.

Amazing replayability due to mission selector with boss fights having their own missions, great OST, combat even though lacking more options is satisfying af for both characters. Skills and upgrades progression is smooth, and the core system is genius.

Only gripe is somewhat frustating platforming sections due to the isometric view and weird slipping at the edge of a platform. Other than that, some minors cons being input glitches here and there, an example being, movement inputs don't transition after jumping down the horse.

Story is decent enough, but the ending lacks oomph. Nevertheless all the characters are really great, even if the dialogues sometimes feel a bit fan-service-ish. The developing relation between War and Strife as the game goes on is awesome.

Still, a great game, 8.5+/10

If you're looking for a game to play with your significant other and the both of you have the urge to rip and tear stuff up, then this game's for you.

This is one of those games where it's good to have someone who is tanky and will bring the physical pain while having someone do crowd control. Basically, this is a game where you have at it, and beat the daylights out of enemies who get in your way. Be mindful of all the loot and other goodies in this game though - you never know what you're getting into until you explore everything though.

This game also made me realize how strong my teamwork skill is when it has to do with also having a brawler like War around, as his offensive capabilities are good for taking out enemies that give you a bit of a problem. Don't rush at him, because once you do, and if War happens to hit you, he hits like a truck.

Strife is more or less a long range shooter, good for crowd control, and he's also more agile in the sense of speed and stealth with his attacks. Not to mention, with his ability to strategically place traps, he can be quite hard to stop once he's been on a hot streak in terms of shooting enemies. You don't want to find yourself in the crosshairs of his gun, because those bullets pack a nasty punch when they hit their targets, and deal additional damage to enemies, while some restore health to you and your partner.

Now, when you need to work on puzzles in the game, that's when War and Strife have to work together to solve the puzzles and to reach certain areas in the game, along with finding secrets, and fighting the bosses you encounter along the way.

The downside to this game is that there have been glitchy moments. Some of them are mild, some of them may be hilarious, depending on the way it affects the game, and then there are those glitches that are annoying. This game's not perfect, and it's definitely not something you can speed through, given all the quests you need to get done in each chapter of the game.

“The war for Eden has ended. The NEPHILIM, unnatural spawn of angel and demon, sought to claim the paradise for themselves, but were ultimately slaughtered by four of their own kind … The HORSEMEN. Chosen to stand against their brothers and sisters by THE COUNCIL, the Horsemen were granted great power to preserve THE BALANCE. Now, Eden is a tomb, and the fledgling humans have been relocated to begin a peaceful existence elsewhere”.

You play as Strife and War (if playing solo), two of the legendary Horsemen, you have returned to The Council after defeating the Nephilim at Eden. The Council explains that while it is tragic what happened in Eden, it was necessary in keeping the Balance. With Death and Fury elsewhere, the Council requires Strife and War to seek out Samael, Lord of Blackstone Keep who conspires with Lucifer, Lord of all Hells. Lucifer wants bring humanity’s downfall, the Council won’t allow this to happen as it will disturb the Balance. So, your mission is to Seek out Samael, Unravel the plot and Serve the Balance.

The game starts with War and Strife looking down upon Samael’s fortress which is currently under attack. Unsure who is attacking Samael and the number of enemies there are, you decide to not walk through the front door with a quick in and out visit. From here is where your adventure begins …

You’re on a ledge high above Samael’s fortress and must find a way inside. Riding your demon horse, you set off to find Samael before the army below get their grubby mitts on him first. As you make your way through each scenario, you’ll be able to switch between the characters War and Strife at any time. Doing this will allow you to use each of the characters abilities for different scenarios. War likes to get up close and personal, too see the colour of his enemy's eyes as he slaps them silly with Chaoseater. Strife prefers to deal with his enemies at a distance and does this with his trusty pistols, Mercy & Redemption.

As you progress through each area, you’ll be confronted with many enemies. Defeating these enemies will release the Souls, these can be collected and used to purchase items and upgrades. You may also find some Creature Cores from fallen enemies. There are two types of Creature Cores, Minor and Major, Minor Cores are dropped from smaller enemies while Major Cores are dropped from elites and bosses. The cores fall in to one of three categories, Attack, Wrath and Health. You can use the cores you collect to activate unique augmentations which will boost your stats and abilities.

You can also collect Wrath Souls from defeated enemies, these will increase your Wrath Metre. Your Wrath Metre will allow Strife or War to use their own unique Wrath Abilities, once your Wrath Metre is full. You will also find some new Ammo Types and Enhancements which can give you an upper hand in battle in you use the right enhancement. You can have multiple enhancements and you can select which ones you’d currently like to use depending on your situation. You’re able to equip two ammo types at once and they can be changed at any time by opening the Ammo Selector.

You can equip gear for both Strife and War to your Gear Radial Menu. Any gear you have for each character can be selected from here. Gear such as the Void Bomb can be used by Strife and the Void Bomb can be used at certain points called Void Portals. If you use the void bomb on two void portals, you’ll create a portal in which you can move through or throw items through. War has the Vorpal Blade which can be thrown at multiple targets such as enemies, torches wall switches etcetera. It can also transfer a flame from one torch to another target. Both characters have passive abilities, both have their own steed to travel around on and they also have the Tempest Cloak. This will allow them to glide after a double jump and you’ll also be able to glide in an air current to move upwards.

As you progress through each area you will come across some puzzles which you’ll be required to complete so that you can move forward. Also, throughout each area you’ll have to confront elite and end level bosses. Scattered here and there are chests which can be opened, and you’ll gain some reward from them. Some are hidden so keep your mince pies open.

Along with the main quest of finding Lucifer and uncovering his plot against mankind, there are other quests which you’ll be able to complete and gain more creature cores. You can check the list of quests and the rewards for completing them by selecting the menu screen. Here you’ll find Creature Cores, Collection, Journal, Quests and Area Map. Choosing Quests will open the list of quests and their rewards. Once you have completed a quest you will then have to collect your reward from the Quests menu.

Creature Cores is where you add any creature cores you have collected on your way through the game. The Journal is where you can find information on characters, the Council and other things through the game. Collection is where all your current abilities, currencies, ammo and enhancements, skins, gear and equipment etcetera. You can also see your current Attack, Wrath and Health stats here.

There are three game saves in where you can save your current games. The game can be played with a friend or another online player. However, if you wish to play the game solo then you can select to play a private game on your own. The game is also a Remote Play Together game so you can play co-op with a friend who doesn’t own the game.

In the options you’ll find settings for Game (Gameplay, Assist, User Interface – General/HUD), Graphics (Display and Quality). Audio (Sound and Cutscenes). Controls (Key Bindings). Language (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Korean, Chinese).

So far, I’ve enjoyed playing Darksiders Genesis, it runs well and looks good. Currently I’ve only played the game on my own in solo private game as I prefer to play and learn a game before playing co-op, but I’ll certainly give it a bash at some point. I did get a little frustrated at times while trying to use the Vorpal Blade to lite multiple torches which would then allow you to complete a puzzle. This could have just been me being useless and not doing something right but in the end, I did manage to get past where I had been stuck getting frustrated.

Positives
+ Good graphics
+ Enjoyable to play
+ Online co-op
+ Has achievements
+ Has cards

Negatives
- Frustrating at times

Follow the Councils orders and lead Strife and War to uncover Lucifer’s plot against humanity.

8/10

Grab a friend and grab Darksiders Genesis... when it is on sale. The game is pretty fun. The comedy is pretty funny. And the bugs quite a plenty. I remember this one time I was playing Darksiders Genesis and we did this entire dungeon and then the saw blade outside stopped spinning but when you walked past it you died. And then another time this water boss pushed us off the edge. We respawned outside the arena. Killed him from distance. And then the fight wasn't over. These are a few of my favourite bugs.

This is an awesome fast paced top down mix of roguelike and RPG.

You don't need to be a fan of or even familiar with the Darksiders series.

It supports multiplayer and split screen. It's a lot of fun on your own and I'd imagine would be even more fun in co-op with a friend.

Great game, somewhere between Diablo and Tomb Raider in terms of style. It's best played with a friend (as switching between characters is frustrating) and a controller. There are some puzzles that are a little finicky with a controller (and a mouse will save you here) but for most combat situations a stick and some buttons to mash are a winner.

Extremely satisfying combat, and the first game in a while I've played to completion. 10/10

The game is pretty fun. It is an isometric mission based hack n slash game with co op. It has a lot of exploration and the gameplay loop is variable. The controls are responsive and the attacks feel like the have weight. Puzzles are a bit basic and the combat is on the easy side. The cutscenes are comic style panels with little animation. The story enriches the lore of the franchise and the chemistry between War and Strife is well written.
My only gripe is the platforming. The isometric locked camera doesn't help with that and it lacks the challenge that the previous game in the series had.

This is the most incredibly fiddly game I've ever played. In Mission 3 (the Inferno) there is a long sequence where you have to make multiple jumps which is nearly impossible. If you fail at any point, no matter how far you are along, it starts you back at the beginning again. It took me at least 100 tries to get through it. After that, I quit. Couldn't be bothered or bored with it any more. Who wants to do the same thing over and over again 100 times?

I can see how some people may not like the camera view angle for this game but I didn't mind it at all. In my opinion, the game play is good and reminds me of Diablo III but it doesn't have the same level of story line. The dialogue is short and concise with a bit of added humor. The game is great, the story is fun, the characters are fun, the art style is fun and it has some fun moments. However I bought this to play it coop with a friend and the online coop is buggy and unplayable. To constant disconnecting, to having his character respawn in the previous mission area causing 2 maps to be rendered which lagged both out pc's with no way back other than kicking and re-inviting him only to have him caught on a infinite loading screen.

Single player? Fun and great

First looking to this game, we all agree is different from the other darksiders games.
The thing is, in my opinion, the things that changed are camera view and coop freature.
I understand why people may not like this game because of bird view. If I didn't liked/played arpg games, probably I wouldn't even had played this game. If this is something that you can not 100% make you enjoy the game then you may forget it.
But this game has something incredible that I love which is coop. This freature is amazing in the game. If you're thinking buying it to play with a friend local, remote or multiplayer, you should buy.

Today 20/03/2020 the gamd just had an update that fixed many bugs and added player location on the map (something that didn't have and 90% of the players wanted it)

I can nit tell you if you should or not buy the game; I can only share my personal opinion. Since steam has a refund system and the game is on sale at the momment, why not give it a shot?

Nice atmosphere, splendid dark-choir music, graphics is pretty ok. Combat is fun and responsive, though at first it may take some getting used to. Plethora of things to do, somewhat original approach to the skill builds, rewarded exploring (but that map... pleeeeaaase wtf is this ::D :D ). I don't get all the bad reviews concerning the bugs, I haven't encountered a single one. Maybe it was valid when the game first came out? I like the story so far, I like both characters, Strife's witty remarks especially, though War's blunt mind is humor in itself. Recommended.

I really wanted to like this game, I liked all previous Darksider games and I love ARPGs. Unfortunately this is not a very good game. The fixed isometric camera works great for classic ARPGs but it's awful when you add platformer elements. Everything about the platforming is terrible. Movement through the world is annoyingly slow and you'll often have to backtrack pretty far if you missed something, which you will. The lack of a proper minimap ads insult to injury. This game should have never been released in its current form.

Best coop-game I've played in a long while. Sometimes buggy, but nothing to ruin the game. Another great entry in this amazing franchise. A must play.

Really found this one very well entertaining, does it have the most unique story and jokes etc. for sure not, pretty generic on this side, but it's Darksiders not Dante's Inferno, right?
Action is nice, plenty of things to do and look for in terms of upgrades (which affect min a meaningful way your gameplay) and achievments.

The switch in perspective suited this Darksiders title very well.
Gameplay wise it still feels absolutely like previous Darsiders games and Strife with his guns is really smooth.

Played this one entirely on Linux via SteamPlay (latest version).
the only thing to mention is that some of the cutscenes are not being shown - which is not a desaster but certainly worth mentioning.

I dont really get why the ratings are so high, this game has huge gamebreaking bugs thay the devs know about but refuse to fix because they dont take their players seriously. Buggest bug that cost me and a buddy 4 hours of time: Chapter 4, last puzzle of the map is bugged. Was mentioned early december on the community hub by 5+ players and devs just said its intended. Its not, some people managed to glitch their way to the next area or like us, replay the entire 1+ hour map on solo mode, so the puzzle is different. Also bugs like characters and monsters getting stuck is quite common. Jumps that are impossible to make, invisible walls etc. The game could be amazing, because there is lots of cool stuff in here. But frustration keeps us from enjoying it so I give it 5/10. If you manage to get a good sale <15$ id say try it if you like the genre and are okay with bugs. Otherwise stay away.

Darksiders but from the topdown! Usual hack n slash gameplay with the added mix of potential co-op gameplay. Not an ARPG like a few of the tags and reviews have mentioned, there is no loot system involved.

Usual story elements involved with the Darksiders franchise of the battle between heaven and hell and everything in between, returning characters such as Samuel and Vulgrim, with a host of newbies thrown in including the first time that Strife is a playable character.

I found there to be a few gameplay glitches, often involving Strife especially when switching characters from War. Strife would seemingly just slide across the map and not actually move his legs, weapon firing would randomly stop even when pressing down applicable buttons and keys. It was often confusing as to where to go on some maps.

A good chapter in the Darksiders story, recommended if you've played the others but might have been getting bored of the stale third person action, I like how they continue to keep the series alive with slight tweaks to keep the gameplay fresh.

i'm a darksiders fan but this game is boooring man. it feels slow and empty. darksiders gameplay doesn't fit very well with diablo style camera. comboing ant size enemies no fun. it would be great game if it was a hack'n slash like diablo but it's not.
