Crashed and alone on a world mankind tried to leave behind, Darkout challenges players to survive on Illuna, in harsh, procedurally generated biomes, utilizing the game’s sandbox features to build shelters, craft weapons, and research new technologies.

You are not alone. Light-sensitive creatures prowling the landscapes become most active at night and in a world shrouded by clouds the security of day will never come, instead, twilight periods allow players minor security to explore, rebuild, and gather resources.

Darkout’s deep history manifests itself through logs left behind by others, some recent, while others hearken back to long-extinct natives of Illuna, offering glimpses into what events led up to the pandemonium that now persists.

ACHTUNG!
Spiel ist seit Jahren unfertig. Entwickler gibt seit April15 nicht einmal mehr Feedback. Bugs werden nicht beseitigt, Story ist unfertig!

ES IST NICHT BEKANNT OB DER ENTWICKLER DAS PROJEKT NOCH BETREIBT, ABER ES SIEHT NICHT SO AUS!

Steckt hier kein Geld rein! NICHT KAUFEN und auch sonst nichts kaufen bei diesem Entwickler, sollten da noch weitere Programme folgen, könnt ihr diese ignorieren. Der Entwickler scheint ohne Gegenleistung abkassieren zu wollen!

Tolles, geniales Game, hat starke ähnlichkeiten mit Edge of Space (Quallen als Gegner) und Signs of Life, nur das Darkout eine hübschere Grafik hat, gefällt mir sehr gut.

Ich verstehe nicht wieso Darkout so eine schlechte Wertung hat, es macht sogar vieles besser als die anderen Spiele des selben Genres, zb das abbauen von Rohstoffen geht recht zügig und dauert nicht Ewig, das Craftingsystem ist sehr übersichtlich, die Grafik ist sehr hübsch (wieso immer ein Sandbox-Spiel mit 8Bit Grafik machen, wenns auch schöner geht ? Darkout zeigt es wie schön ein Sandbox Spiel sein kann).

Ein Multiplayermodus und neue (bessere ?) Engine (Unity) sollen noch folgen.

Wer Terraria, Starbound usw. toll findet, der sollte sich auch Darkout zulegen, das Spiel ist sehr gut und ich bin gespannt was da noch so alles kommen wird.

Wer auf Terraria oder Starbound steht, das Ganze aber gerne düsterer und nicht in Pixeloptik möchte, sollte hier unbedingt zugreifen

Sehr lustiges Spiel! Die Story ist zwar noch ein wenig verbugt, doch das Spiel an sich ist schon sehr gut ausgebaut! Ich freue mich schon auf den Multiplayer!

wer terraria und minecraft mag wird hier gold richtig sein leider gibts nur den single player aber der läuft richtig gut ist mal nen ganz anderes setting und macht irre spass die grafik könnte für nen sandbox spiel kaum besser sein also daumen hoch nettes preiswertes spiel für zwischen durch

I bought this back when it first came out in early access. I had a lot of fun playing the game while it was being developed. It was saddening though when they decided to stop development and push it out of early access unfinished.

OK lovely people, i will tell you nothing about the game, just that you can play the game just fine if you open the local file folder in steam. Open the settings of exe file and set the compatibility to windows 7. The game may be abandond but it still has hours of nice looking gameplay in it.

Sadly abandoned. Wonderful idea and nice little game, but missing a lot of content as it never really got out of EA. Perhaps if it was on sale for a few euro it might be worth a shot

I tried multiple times to get into this game and i just couldn't. The lighting mechanics of the game were interesting the story discovery was OK. It just has that feel like they were hoping somebody else would polish this game for them. After reading how they didn't even finish the game and want us to pay for the ending makes me not even try and almost wish i could get my money back i mean i expected a finished product when I bought it and it would take you more than 2 hours to find that out.

I played this game when it first came out and it was great.

Now it's abandoned. With further development this could've been good. Shame.

This game was gifted to me an age ago and I really enjoyed it at first. It was lovely to look at, interesting to play into. It had a lot of potential.

Unfortunately with the Devs dropped the project (and sometimes it happens), it left a bitter taste for a lot of people. Do not buy this game for a gift or yourself at this point. It isn't going anywhere anymore. It was a neat dream while it lasted but paying money for something this unfinished is not good consumerism. I hope the Devs found new passion projects that finished, at least.

As others have mentioned this does not work on Win 10. Causes black screen and system to go unresponsive.

Dont buy this game. Its dead.

When the early access came out the game was very good. Regular updates and what not. But at some point the Devs just gave us the finger and abandoned the project. Storyline is unfinished. Bugs are still present. And a game that has no ending is not worth your time and I spend way to much time on this piece of sh*t.

The game doesnt even run on Win10 anymore.
Dont give the devs money cause they dont deserve it.
They had a beautiful raw gem in their hands. But instead of making a masterpiece by putting some effort into it. They ran for the hills with the cash they already had collected. Shame on them.

Highly NOT RECOMMEND for gaming rigs owners and windows 10 users :) Some years ago tried this game, and through all bugs I've managed to play it, now - only black screen :) since developers spat on this issue, it is not likely that something will change in the future :(

Obviously a buggy piece of software, causes PC to lose display and have to hard reset (power button).

Great Black Screen Emulator. thats all i got. Nothing. blank screen. Heck it would not even let me ALT F4 quit. had to hard reboot my computer cause it turned my entire screen Black. Do Not Purchess!

After many hours of play this game is now dead. It will not run on Win 10 and the developer is bankrupt. It needs to be removed from the store so other people do not buy it.

Permanent black screen with PC hardlock (even Alt+F4 not helping) forces you to physical reset. I regret I wasted money on that, even with discount.

I am so bummed this game bit the dust, in terms of development. It is one of my favorite casual time killers. I wish someone would come up with a successor to it. It has a nice, slightly eerie vibe, and a lot of character.
The mechanics of the turrets and energy management are a lot of fun. Just the right blend of casual and exciting.

Pros:
- Unique tech tree
- Light based gameplay
- Unique animation style

Cons:
- Feels incomplete

Recommend, however, once you finish the story and its related goals, discover as much tech as possible, set up an awesome base gameplay just suddenly stops due to nothing left to do. It'll take you a while to get there, so game makes for an interesting diversion, but that's about it

If you run Windows 10 and it is up to date then DON'T install this game. I purchased the game when it was first released and for years it worked fine. Now suddenly Windows 10 says the game is incompatible and there is no options to fix it. Even trying compatibility mode with Windows 8 failed.

Generally I don’t write reviews, but this game has become a special kind of irritating.

On the positive side, the game is indeed very pretty and the soundtrack sets the mood well. The general sandbox activities of building and resource gathering are interesting, particularly wiring your base with power and lights.

Sadly that is where the upside stops. When I originally purchased this game in beta most all of the things you can now find in the “Future development plan & DLC” were to be included in the game by the time it was released. Especially the story and an ending for the game. An immersive story for a 2D sandbox was one of their main features at that time. However, now the designers have fallen on hard times and have decided to break those promises due to their need for funding. Additionally, work has effectively stopped on this game while they attempt to make a similar companion game to get more funding to finish this one. This information, along with a much longer explanation, can be found on a recent post of theirs on the official forums along with a passive suggestion that it is the purchasers fault for buying it on sale.

I realize beta is a fickle thing and you might not always get exactly what you expected. This goes well beyond that however in my opinion. To be realistic, this game by the standards of their original plan is still in beta and was simply rushed to release in an attempt to gain further funding. I whole heartedly recommend against this purchase. The DLC may never arrive at this rate and most of it was originally supposed to be in the actual release. It strikes of an unethical approach to development even if they had the best intentions to start with which is suspect at this point.

*UPDATE* It's been several months now since this change in the games direction with no recent news or updates from their main site. Given this was back on April 30th, it's probably fairly safe to assume the game is dead at this point with it being over 6 months.
