Über das Spiel

Am Anfang war das Feuer. Erlebe erneut das von der Kritik gefeierte, genreprägende Spiel, mit dem alles begann. Kehre in dieser wundervoll überarbeiteten Version zurück nach Lordran ... in atemberaubendem Detail in 60 fps.
Dark Souls Remastered enthält die Vollversion des Spiel und das DLC „Artorias of the Abyss“.

Erstmal muss ich mich bedanken, durch das Remaster hatte ich den nötigen Ansporn, dass Spiel nochmal durchzuspielen.

Das Remaster hat einige Verbesserungen, wie etwas teilweise schönere Gegner mit mehr Details, Gegenstände die man findet werden nicht mehr sofort ausgerüstet UND kein Games for Windows Live mehr was ständig das Spiel beendet, weil gerade irgendwo was nicht Online ist. Somit ist es schon die beste Version vom ersten Teil.

Leider ist die Beleuchtung für meinen Geschmack teilweise zu dunkel und nicht immer so stimmig wie im Orginal. Die matschigen Texturen und generell vermatschte Welt stammt aber dafür 1 zu 1 aus dem Original. Ich hätte von einem Remaster da mehr erwartet. Ein Vorteil hat es ich konnte das Spiel auch über Weihnachten ohne Probleme an meinem 12 Jahre alten Zweit-PC spielen.

Also sollte dieser Meilenstein der Gaming-Geschichte so ziemlich auf jeden modernen PC laufen, auch wenn er vielleicht low Budget ist.

Wer das Original mitentsprechenden Mods hat, muss nicht unbedingt zugreifen, alle anderen sollten mal den Titel probieren. Das Spiel ist leichter als alle immer ständig sagen. Ihr müsst euch nur ordentlich vorbereiten.

Ich sterbe die ganze Zeit! Zwischen richtigem Fortschritt liegen manchmal Stundenlanges Rumlaufen und Bosskloppen.
Dieses spiel ist frustrierender als sich eingestehen zu müssen, dass man nun auf Viagra angewiesen ist.
Gerade wenn man dieses Spiel gemeinsam mit einem anderen Holzkopf spielt, entfaltet es seine volle Wirkung, es zerstört Ehen, Freundschaften und Beziehungen.

Bestes Spiel aller Zeiten...

Eins der besten Spiele Ever!!! Einach nur empfejlenswert!!! Alle drei Teile. Und wer Probleme mit der Controller erkennung hat, hier die Lösung: Navigiere ins DS Verzeichnis und lösche die xinput1_3.dll, dann geht auch jeder Controller ohne Probleme.

The one and only, Dark Souls. At this point there isn't really anything to say about this game, other than that you have to play it at least once in your life if you have the slightest interest in these types of games.

Hard at first, rewarding if you persist, and addicting once you mastered it and start to learn and understand the world.

The remaster has improved upon the original in many ways in my opinion, and PvP is dead anyway, so don't let those negative nancys pull you down on this one. Highly recommended!

Poison and toxin still last for 3 and 10 minutes, 0/10 literally unplayable

Jokes aside, if you look past the online changes because you're not interested in PvP (like me), the only noteworthy change is the fix for resolution and FPS and that is by no means worth that much money. I would have just bought the original because it would have been the better deal for me, but... well, the only way to do that now is to buy a Steam key from a 3rd party.

Definitely wait for a sale, don't pay 40€ (or whatever the full price is for you).

- Fantastische Geschichte und tiefe Überlieferung
- Erstaunlicher Soundtrack
- Wiederholbar
- Einige großartige und unvergessliche Bosskämpfe
- Auch für ein Spiel von 2012 optisch immer noch beeindruckend, aber mit butterweichen 60 fps
- Tolles Level-Design in den meisten Bereichen
- Gebiete auf dieser Welt sind miteinander verbunden, besser als die anderen DS-Spiele
- Es sind Dark Souls

Nachteile:
- Ärgerliche Fehler und Störungen
- Etwas veraltete Kampf- und Spielmechanik
- Online kann verzögert sein, insbesondere im PvP-Kampf

This is not a game, this is a pure piece of art. From the map, which is connects the areas in a smart way, the different level designes, the bosses, the lore, the punishing, but fair difficulty, the great atmosphere, the combination of single player gameplay with multiplayer elements which gives you this feeling of despite playing alone, never really being alone and a massive amount of replayability. If you play it for your first playthrough, don't check guides unless you are really stuck somewhere.

The game that put Fromsoftware on the map for eternity. Has the best first half of any game that I've ever played and has an amazing DLC. The more you play this game the more you're gonna appreciate the level design and the atmosphere of the game. Firelink Shrine feels like a second home...

Don't give up, it'll be tough at the start but very soon you'll find that the barriers that seem impassable are no challenge at all. What those barriers are guarding is one of the best gaming experiences you'll ever have.

This game burrowed itself deep into my brain starting in November of 2011 when I saw my best friend ignoring the insane release hype of Skyrim. Everyone was playing Skyrim! And there he is on Xbox live just going in on some Dark Souls day after day.

Around 2013 I decided to see what the f*** was up with this game for myself. My first go, I spent a month trying to beat the Asylum Demon because I stupidly didn't realize you had to progress through the side path. A whole solid month of trying to beat the first boss with a broken sword. Once I beat him, I said this isn't for me.

About 2 years later I gave it another shot and this time found the better weapon to finally make my way to the Firelink Shrine in considerably less time. However, between the Stone Knights in Darkroot Garden and poison damage in Lower Undead Burg, I once again said f*** this. I thought I would revisit Dark Souls sooner, but I eventually left home and the Xbox behind.

December 1st, 2021, with Elden Ring on the horizon, I needed to make a decision if soulsborne games are for me. 25 days and 47 hours of playtime later, yes, yes they are for me. Praise the sun.

The game was amazing when it was first released several years ago, it still holds up very well today. There's not much I can say about the game that hasn't been said countless times from others. Many devs these days strive to reach the level of success that FromSoftware had with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, all i can say is good luck with that. While i welcome newcomers to the souls-like genre, it's going to be hard for them to capture the magic and memories that FromSoftware has made with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

I first played this game about two years or so after I played Demon's souls on PS3. Although I played Dark Souls on Xbox 360 it looks much better in this edition on PC and runs way better as well at 60FPS in 4K. I don't know if there's plans to bring Demon's Souls to Steam one day, but that would be my ultimate wish as I have no intentions of getting a PS5 even though the game was remastered for the console.

Anyways, whether you've played this game years ago on console or PC, this version is a worthy upgrade in performance and visuals as well as multiplayer as it seems far more stable then previous versions were. Even if you play solo offline and don't care about the improved multiplayer, there's tons of mods that upgrade or change visuals or completely overhaul the game adding new enemies, bosses , weapons and other aspects to the experience and what an experience it is even if we're just talking about the vanilla version. This game is a classic that deserves to be in your collection and that's the bottom line because ProudCh0sen1 said so, go buy it now!

these are some thoughts I had during playing, hope it helps. I may add more as I play ng+

  • Best swordplay I ever had in video game. (not that I use swords RL..)

Dark Souls is one of the few games in my library that I could come back to and enjoy time and time again. While it has some shortcomings (like the seemingly rushed second half of the game), I can't recommend it enough.

I'll start with the plot - its integration into the game is genius. The game doesn't spoonfeed it to you through forced cutscenes, but rather leaves it for the player to find (through item descriptions, optional dialogue with the NPCs, etc.). That said, you will have a general understanding of what to do or where to go most of the time. But if you feel like exploring the game's world on your own, you don't even have to speak to most NPCs in the game.

The game's world is another aspect of Dark Souls that I really enjoyed. You will be returning to the Firelink Shrine (the game's hub) a lot because of the way the world is interconnected. Due to its openness, it will take you some trial and error to find the correct path in the beginning, and that is a very important mechanic in Dark Souls.

The game is very punishing, and for a lot of people this is a deal-breaker. However, if you stick with the game long enough to feel comfortable playing it, the experience will start being a lot more rewarding. The fact is that it doesn't get easier, but rather you get better (with the exception of levelling up and upgrading weapons).

The replayability value is also very high. The game lets you run several builds, and the community continues to come up with different challenge runs (Soul Level 1, No Death, No Damage, etc.). You can start a New Game + and play through the game with your friends.

Co-operative play is pretty fun, but rather tedious to set up (especially when playing with friends). In addition to co-op, you can participate in PvP through arenas or invasions. Both mechanics add a lot of value to the game.

Finally, the audio sounds great. Both the sound design and the soundtrack are very well-combined, providing an immersive sound experience. The graphics are alright, considering it's an almost 3 year-old remaster of a 10 year-old game.

Overall, DS is among my favorite games, and I am saying that as someone who doesn't like the Action/RPG genre or games with a similar setting. Consider getting this game, I'm sure you won't regret it.

I will not recommend this as it's a duplicate of the non-working and already payed for Dark Souls that already exists on steam. A bug-fix patch shouldn't cost you the price of a new game.

This is the best game ever made in my humble opinion, still unmatched on the souls series on level design and frankly I'm yet to play a game to amaze me like dark souls did.

This time with fancy graphics, you should probably get this, just expect to die. A lot.

Bought this game on Xbox 360, Xbox one, and now feel the need to buy it on steam.
Dark souls is exactly what you expect, a hard unforgiving game with RPG elements and constant danger, accompanied by deep lore and epic loot, tons of paths to choose, and a great satisfation after beating a boss or opening a shortcut. Recommend to anyone who enjoys challenging games and medieval RPGs. It's one of those rare games you just wish you could play for the first time again, so intriguing to the average gamer. The start of a great series and several spinoffs of the same style, the original being Demons Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro being the spinoffs. Any gamer that has skills, can deal with RPG elements, and enjoys intense skilled combat (If you play For Honor you might like it) please try this game. You either love it or hate it, find out!!
PS. As far as the remaster goes some people claim to see no difference but the game seems to run much smoother, fixed the frame stutter in areas like Blighttown, and the fog and fire/particle effects seem to be nicer.

Same hood classic as always. If you own the original only buy this if dsfix is something you don't wanna bother with or if it has issues on your system (as was the case for me). If you haven't played it yet, just do so already...

If you already own the game, they didn't update much of anything other than some vines on a few castle walls. Most of the textures/animations are exactly the same. If you need multiplayer then you need the remaster, but honestly I would buy whichever version is cheaper at the time.

I personally found the difficulty in the game opposite to DS3. In DS3, the areas getting to the bosses are easy, and the bosses are hard. Where as in DS1, the areas getting to the bosses can get pretty hard, and SOME of the bosses, a nutless monkey could do blindfolded. Still a very difficult game, and the QOL isn't there until you do a certain part in the game.

This review came after my first playthrough ever of DS1. Between Console and my other Steam account, I've gathered well over 3000 Hours between DS3, DS2, Sekiro and Bloodborne. Big fan of the series, can't wait for Elden Ring and Demon Souls Remastered!!

INTRO



Dark Souls is the second installment in the (Souls) series of games. The first being Demon Souls for the PS3 (Remaster coming to PC soon enough). Dark souls has taken everything that made Demon Souls great and improved upon it ten fold. From the large areas full of deadly monsters to the massive and awesome boss fights. Now of course I am gonna be speaking about the remaster, even though I love the original game the Remaster really helped the frame rate of this game in certain areas.

STORY



The story of the game and the souls universe in general is told through item's and the descriptions of said items. You, the chosen undead will travel across Lordran on a journey to link to first flame, ringing the bells of awakening and all that jazz in the process. Hardcore fans of the lore will be scouring every inch of the game searching for items to read and uncover more of the mystery of this series.

DIFFICULTY



Dark Souls is known for being an extremely difficulty game. Now of course difficulty is all subjective (?) however your first playthrough will undoubtedly be challenging and of course very rewarding when you finally pull off everything you have been working for. The boss fights of this game are a memorable experience...even though a few bad apples do exist which will frustrate players for all the wrong reasons. The areas themselves for the most part are well made with great enemy placement and traps...of course some areas will have you scratching your head as you wonder what the hell FromSoftware was drinking when they designed it.You will die over and over again but eventually with enough determination you can pull through the hardest of situations and come out swinging for the next encounter!

GAMEPLAY



The gameplay of Dark Souls depends on your build but you will either be playing it safe with a tank build, trying to abuse your shield to take less damage while balancing your stamina. You may decide you wanna be a spellcaster or a spellblade even. Me? I enjoy being a two handed, ninja rolling master of pyromancy. Hybrid is how I live and die in the Souls series. The controls for the game are pretty good. One thing you will need to get used too however is how the game handles inputs. You may swing your sword, pushing the button again mid swing in a panic but then you panic even more as the game internally has your second attack already queued up and ready to go off, regardless if you want it too or not. This has been a problem in FromSoftware games in general. It has gotten be killed many times but eventually you adjust to it, You may feel this more when you dodge like crazy honestly.

LENGTH



Dark Souls is a pretty lengthy game, of course being longer depending on your skill level. It has plenty of optional areas and bosses to keep you busy and entertained. The player will be rewarded with exploration with treasure but you have to always be cautious and on your toes as that treasure may be guarded by something ready to murder you.

MUSIC



I gotta give Dark Souls props for it's amazing soundtrack. As you travel through the many areas you will notice the lack of music, that is until you enter specific areas or boss fights. The music is amazing and very memorable.

ABOUT THE REMASTER



On topic of the Remaster I honestly 100% fine with some of the textures seeming a little washed out. Mostly because the remaster fixed the Frame rate in Blight Town and made Lost Izalith a little more stomachable. Everything is so much more smooth here and makes the overall experience just more enjoyable for me.

DLC



The DLC for this game is included in the Prepare to Die edition and of course the Remastered version and I gotta say. Artorias of the abyss (?) DLC is one of my favorite segments of this game! It starts off with boss battle just to test if you are ready or not. Things get a little slower from this point but once you reach the second boss the DLC never turns off it's brakes. It also has a fantastic optional boss for you to tackle!

FINAL VERDICT



I have played every version of Dark Souls 1 and I love the game so much. Something about Dark Souls (Specifically the first game) is incredibly remarkable and highly memorable for me. So I gotta give the game an 8/10 , making this game a must play, Anyways of course if you are not into difficult games I understand why you may be turned off from playing it, I would still say give it a shot at least if you have the time. Maybe watch some guides or of course just enjoy the game to it's fullest with a blind run.

*Slight spoiler review*

As someone who started getting into the Souls series from Dark Souls 3, I was skeptical about DS1 due to it being an older game, I hesitated about getting it until because I heard it had clunkier controls and generally less smooth gameplay. I was proven wrong, because DS1, the game that started an entirely new genre of games, is absolutely an incredible experience.

When I first started my playthrough of DS1, it was frustrating because I’d been spoiled by how smooth and streamlined the gameplay in DS3 is. I couldn’t even imagine playing a dark souls game without fast travel between bonfires, it turned me off for a bit but I continued my journey. It was until later in the game, when I discovered incredibly hidden and well placed shortcuts that connects firelink and some other areas that seemed to be miles away, I had realized the incredible level design and interconnectivity between all the areas. The game takes you from the depressing Blighttown to the glamorous city of Anor Londo seamlessly, traveling through the land of Lordran and seeing the history of this land is just poetic. My mind was blown when I discovered the elevator in Undead Parish church leading back to Firelink, I never even thought about the possibility that all of this was right above the hub area. Exploring the map, memorizing all the shortcuts and paths seemed tedious at times but ultimately ended up being one of the most rewarding experiences, this game really does nail the non-linear exploration. Accidentally stumbling upon hidden areas and secrets are some of my favorite aspects of this game, and this is the type of charm that only the original Dark Souls has. Even though the later games still have really good level designs, they are far more linear and have much less interconnectivity because you’re allowed to warp between every single bonfire, which takes out the experience that is backtracking to previous areas and discovering brand new things.

Dark Souls 1 has some famous bosses with important lore significance which helps explain the lore as you fight your way through them, but I did find many of them disappointing and lacking when it comes to the fight itself, especially when compared to Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne. DS1’s bosses usually have a more strategic and slower approach and generally reward you for being smart and prepared rather than having lightning quick reflexes. In comparison to other FromSoft titles, majority of bosses in DS1 are on the easier side. There are a few gimmicky bosses, such as Moonlight Butterfly and Bed of Dogshit(Apparently you can use Alluring Skulls to make the branches only attack a specific spot instead of swiping you off the map numerous times.) Some other bosses, in my opinion also fell kind of flat, especially the damn demon bosses, they aren’t very interesting or engaging to fight at all. But with all the bad, there are a few incredible fights such as Ornstein and Smough, Knight Artorias, Four Kings, and pretty much all the DLC bosses.

The online system is also a stroke of genius. You may rarely see other players actually in the world, but you can always discovered other players’ messages on the ground that give your hints or guide you to a secret area, there’s this sense of warmth and security you get even when adventuring alone in a dangerous world where everything wants you dead. You might also find countless bloodstains of the players who came before you, watch how they died and you might just learn if there’s danger ahead or an ambush waiting for you in the shadows. The invasion system also spices things up quite a bit, adding more unpredictability in your playthrough.

To me, the magic of Dark Souls is its world. You are a nobody, and no one gives a shit about your feelings, and it really shows. You are simply another fragile being among the countless undead that have come before or after you, it’s up to you to create your own legacy. Dark Souls has very few NPCs that you can talk to and they have an incredibly small number of lines to tell, but somehow it makes you care for them even though you barely ever see them. Perhaps it’s the incredible voice work, or the realization that you’re all just struggling to survive in this cold, harsh, desolate world and create your own story. The game tells a grand yet depressing story that you have to discover on your own by exploring, there are no expedition dumps and nothing is handed to you. Every step of the way, you have to earn the right to it. That, is what makes Dark Souls special.

Finally, a word of advice to anyone looking to potentially get into the Souls series: It’s not as hard as you’d think, punishing at best; it can be made trivial if you know what your doing, or just use summons. BUT, I strongly recommend to NOT know what you’re doing when you play this game, so much of what makes it special is discovering secrets and strategies on your own. Do not look up guides on the internet (or use summons) unless you’re really stuck on an area or boss, playing this game blind is absolutely the best way and I highly recommend you to do so. This game is a serious test of patience but any challenge and frustration can be overcome if you're willing to put the time and effort to adapt and learn.

And lastly, if you wish to embark on this incredible journey, don't you dare go Hollow.

I never played the original game, however you can still feel the age of this game when you play it. By no means is that a fault, it actually works to great effect for this game. It has a certain charm about it. The game holds up extremely well, any limited graphics are covered up by the remaster and contribute to the atmosphere more than anything.

The one thing this game nails is its atmosphere. You are thrown into this alien world of horrors, the brief opening cinematic doing little to help you understand what is going on. The lore of the world is slowly found out by the player, yet many things remain mysterious and unknown. The game's design is made so that every enemy is a threat, you could be a high leveled player and still potential killed by a relatively early enemy. You are constantly made to think what's around the next corner. One might think this makes for stressful gameplay, and yes while the game can be difficult and unforgiving, it is meant to be. You are made insignificant, and your growth and perseverance through the trials the game puts you through really means something.

The gameplay in of itself is extremely fun and challenging. Picking out your weapons, stats, spells, and armour to create your own customised character is amazing. The game gives you a great amount of freedom in that regard, which i appreciate a lot, it's something i always love in a game. If that sounds intimidating and overwhelming, fear not; the game also allows one to pick an archetype and you could stick to that without worrying too much. The one thing i dislike about the progression is the lack of ability to reassign ability points, however this does add to the difficulty of the game, leading you to truly think about your choices.

A rather odd aspect of this game is the online element, should you chose to play it in such a fashion. Signs are left on the floors with messages from other players, as well as death scenes and options for other players to join your game or battle you. Should you remain human while playing you may be invaded by another player and killed, this aspect is annoying at times, but ultimately interesting and satisfying should you manage to defeat them. This aspect of the game is also HEAVILY RUINED by the large amount of cheaters, which does become less prevalent the higher level you are (most of the cheaters seem to enjoy preying on new players). Summon signs will appear which means you can summon other players or NPCs (you are also periodically invaded by NPCs throughout the game). Should you wish to play with a friend you can set up a network password in your settings so that you can only join with those who input the same password. The co-op experience is interesting as the game does not scale much with the more players you have in the game. This can be helpful when having difficulty with the game, however changes the experience from less of a high-difficulty game of a struggle for survival for something of an extremely enjoyable beat-'em-up looter game (one not being worse than the other, but certianly a different style of gameplay).

Overall, I'd highly recommend this game. It's a game which is in a genre all of its own (along with the sequels and bloodborne) which makes for an extremely engaging, intense, and enjoyable experience. A classic i will likely replay one day.

My first ever Souls game. My second ever FromSoft game (the first one is Sekiro). For all these years since the original release I somehow was avoiding this, without any particular reason. But I still wanted to try it, one day. After playing and totally loving Sekiro, I realized that the time has come.

And then there was fire.

I was treading lightly because I was worried that I might not like it, giving its age. But just a few hours in, my worries were withered away and I knew that I am doomed to love it. Once and for all.

This is literally the first time when a game showed me that a game doesn't need high-resolution textures or fancy effects to make the world attractive, detailed and vivid. A game doesn't need long cutscenes or hundred-lines dialogues to explain the plot. The beauty of the world can be shown with little details here and there, telling you stories without a single word. And some stories are told in words, they may be short or even cryptic, and they can shed light on some another hidden layer of matters.

The atmosphere of this game is filled with melancholic sadness and despair, but it's so poetic and emotional. You see ruins of old civilizations, collapsed castles or just ashes of the remaining glory. You are nothing more than just another fragile mind in a cruel world. Yet somehow it teaches you to keep trying, it gives you determination and confidence. Your character becomes stronger, together with you, the player.

We all know something about Dark Souls before venturing to this land. I had some knowledge and prejudices too. I did not expect it to be anything more than just a good but old game. How wrong was I... If you are new here, go unprepared. This game writes a personal story for you, and your experience makes it unique. What will be your failings and successes? Will you give up or will you keep trying? Will it break your self-confidence or will it give you another strength? What people will you meet along the way or will you meet any? How will it change you as a player, or, maybe, even as a person?

I have found my answers and have completed the first chapter of my personal Dark Souls story. It was an emotional journey that left me shivering in the end. FromSoft games are truly outstanding. The level design, the lore, the atmosphere and aesthetics, the difficulty... It all makes these games feel exceptional, up to the point of ruining other games for me. And I am so glad that I still have quite a lot to discover. A few more chapters to complete, a long road ahead, and an endless chasm of inspiration.

...This is my fate.

I love this Game, I want to introduce my friend's to this game. Why is it still £35? I get it's a remaster but that is hilarious considering how lazy the remaster with a few updated particle effects, to fix a game that was released broken at the beginning on PC. Paying £35 for what is essentially a 9 year old game is absurd.

If you haven't played this game before it's fantastic, my favourite game of all time and quite simply a masterpiece of subtle storytelling of a world teetering into darkness but holding onto hope with hugely rewarding gameplay. However Steam or BANDAI/NAMCO or someone needs to change this game's price. Buy it on sale.

I have been playing an insane amount of Dark Souls over the past 2-3 months and wanted to offer my thoughts on the series as a whole. I played all of them on PC, back to back: DS3 with all DLCs (595 hours); DS2 SOTFS with DLCs (448 hours); and DS Remastered (148 hours), in that order. I got 100% completion (The Dark Soul) in all three. Yeah, that means I used a lot of online guides and robbed myself of the mystery. Done over, I'd forget the achievements until a third or fourth attempt.

Bottom Line up Front: I thoroughly enjoyed them all and can't choose a most or least favorite. Each is its own piece of art, but I can entirely sympathize with anyone who played them in their proper order, contemporaneous with their release, and found DS2 and DS3 derivative and not as ground breaking. Sure, but for anyone who does not have the emotional freight that comes with early adoption of a masterpiece series, they're all great games still worth playing today.

Gripes: DS3 is full of hackers, so I played mostly offline, only logging on for some tough boss fights once I'd maxed out all the PVP covenants. I imagine they all had a lot of hackers in their day, but DS3 is toxic at times. There's also a lot of great community out there and most player summons are helpful. Even most invaders are polite. DS2 SOTFS is not really PC/Keyboard/Mouse friendly. You have to disable double clicking every time. If you forget, you're dead in your first fight many times. That said, if you remap your keys and remember to disable double clicking, it's fine. There are quite a few hackers in SOTFS too, so many that I gave up on the arenas very quickly. Outside of the arenas, it's better at this point from a hacker perspective than DS3. DS Remastered was a gem. Even though it was my last DS game played, it was really cool seeing for myself what people meant when they said one or another aspect of the later games were homages to earlier ones. If I had any gripe it would be that subsequent playthroughs don't give you better ring versions, etc. That was one reason I kept at DS3 for so long. Getting the better stuff was fun and it was nice seeing new loot areas in the NG+ and NG++ rounds. This is not a major gripe at all -- i personally might have gone further in NG ++ with new or improved loot.

I highly recommend all three games and will post a copy of this on all three pages. Enjoy!

Short Version


Pros :
- Fantastic Story and deep lore
- Amazing soundtrack
- Replayable
- Some great and memorable boss fights
- Still visually impressive even for a 2012 game, but with buttery smooth 60 fps
- Great level design in most areas
- Areas in this world are interconnected, better than the other DS games

Long Version


I bought Dark Souls PTDE a while back when it was $5 on steam, the game was so poorly optimized that I didn't get past the second boss (the mods and community patches did not help) so I stopped playing. I bought the remastered version for $20 a while back, so it was a steal for me

Story : Even though this series has without a doubt some great and deep lore, I mainly play them for the challenge and boss fights, that's what I did for Dark Souls 2, and for Dark Souls 3 (DLC excluded) anyways. However, this game actually made me want to know more about the world and its bosses, as it wasn't too ambiguous and I could actually understand what the story is about, and in turn, made the boss fights and interactions with other characters more memorable.

Gameplay : This is the first game that started the series and was originally released in 2012. Because I got used to Dark Souls 2 and 3 and how they are played, I did not like a few thing in this game; you can't warp to all available bonfires, so you have to walk to the bonfire that you want to go (this is not challenging, it's just tedious); backstabbing is broken, you can fall off edges easily, and the recovery time is too damn long. This is the first game in the series so shouldn't be annoyed by them. I did not mind some of the early mechanics, like not moving while drinking the estus flask for example, which makes replenishing health riskier during tough and extreme moments.

There are a few things that I didn't mention in this review, like Co-op/Invasions and Covenants, as I wasn't really focused on them or just didn't need help, also this is my first time playing this game so I might have missed a few NPCs, side quests and vendors along the way. Luckily, this game has a lot of replay value, as once you defeat the end boss you will start a new game+ directly and face the same enemies and bosses, but tougher and have a bigger healthbar. I will definitely replay this game later to complete the quests that I missed and achieve the second ending

Bosses : One of the main reasons why people like the series is because of the boss fights. I personally found 10 of the bosses entertaining and good, while the rest were just either boring and easy as hell or straight up bs (looking at you [spoiler] Bed of Chaos [/spoiler]). On the other hand, there were some bosses who were very challenging and hard as nails, but were entertaining to fight at the same time ([spoiler] Manus, Gwyn, Artorias [/spoiler]); their design, combat style and music makes those fights very memorable and probably the best in the series.

Bugs and glitches : From what I saw the only main change in this remaster is we can now play Dark Souls in 60 fps, but that's almost about it. Apparently the remaster didn't fix the bug and glitches that were present in the main game apparently. The bugs are so annoying that it costed me a win against the duo (Ornstein and Smough) as I glitched to the wall at the very end of the fight, same with Gwyn (glitched to a branch). The online is janky at times; the netcode is bad and just pairing you with anyone in the world regardless of the region. as I would be playing with a random guy from another part of the world, same with PvP fights..

Graphics & World Design : The game hosts few of the best areas in the series ([spoiler] Anor Londo [/spoiler] ) and the worst aswell ([spoiler]Blighttown[/spoiler] ), but the way many areas in this world are connected to the firelink shrine is just astonishing. I am not sure if the remaster changed anything in the graphics department, but for an 8 year old game it still looks absolutely stunning.

Soundtrack : The soundtrack in this game is composed by Motoi Sakuraba himself, and all of the songs are phenomenal from intro to credits. The music during boss fights creates a unique tone for each one, makes them more fleshed out. You can hear some ambience music in very few areas in the game but other than that all you can hear are your footsteps and the sound of your armor clanking, which makes the game more haunting with feelings of loneliness and isolation.

In the end, I was very satisfied with the game that I completely forgot about all the issues and bugs that I faced before. This is an excellent game and enjoyed every second of it. I will never forget the first time I faced some of the bosses in the game and the intensity of those fights and their incredible music. I recommend this game to everyone who is up for the challenge and to experience one of the first games of this genre.

New to Dark Souls 1, I was introduced with 3. When I saw game play of 1 it looked so dated but the charm of challenge is ever present and soon I adjusted to the graphics. This game is the perfect time killer as I am in Corona quarantine. I hope to buy Dark Souls 2 before I run out of money or die.

Nothing is easy.

I completed a near-blind playthrough of Dark Souls and got to the final boss in a 2nd, informed playthrough when I wrote this review.

Overview
You are an undead prisoner who is dumped out on an island of interwoven realms steeped in mystery and dread. With a few items to your name, you don't have one by the way, the player must prod their way through a swath of enemies and bosses, picking

Combat & Controls
The main attraction to Dark Souls is its methodical combat. It took me a little while to get used to the controls, but it was comfortable to play the game. Positioning and timing is key. Players can move, dodge, or block incoming attacks. What takes it up a notch is the game allows players to find a comfortable playing style, down to the weapon movement. Players can hit hard and tank or hit multiple times and evade. There is enough variety in the bosses that all build are viable, provided the player is skilled enough. And there is still some flexibility with weapons, armor and rings to make tweeks in various areas. Unfortunately, there is no way to reallocate points, so if you don't like your current set up, you are sort of stuck with it, but the game is predominately built around a players skill, versus getting one item that makes you op, or is a specific weakness to an enemy.

One thing to be weary of is the locking out of inputs. Spamming attacks and rolls is a bad idea. The game will remember the input, which will roll a player off a screen or burn out their stamina. Probably the most brutal is being stunned during an input, and when you recover, they game continues the action often resulting in the taking of more damage. Again, this is the methodical nature of the combat - to play with purpose throughout the game.

The camera controls need some work, but there's more to it than that. There is a camera lock on feature, but you pretty much have to directly look at the enemy to get it to lock in, and they have to be close. Sometimes though, it just doesn't want to lock on. The other issue are the often close quarters involved in the combat. Nothing become transparent to allow the player an uninterrupted view. In fact, several areas are designed to obstruct the players ability to see what's on the screen. Combat may also happen on narrow pathways, in which falling means death. I also found rolls to be less consistent. If the AI moves as you roll it seemed to screw up the routing.

Difficulty
Dark Souls is tough, but not always for the right reasons. Learning enemy attack patterns, mastering zoning with my weapon, knowing an enemies weakness, these are the things one is to expect, and Dark Souls rewards those who put in the time and effort. Players can also find a new weapon or upgrade the one they have to improve their chances of survival. Furthermore, players can farm souls (in game currency) to increase their levels to hit a little harder or take a touch more damage. The fact that you can complete the game without upgrading your character level shows that a lot of effort went into designing those elements of the game. I mean, dying isn't bad (which is good, cause you will die a lot). You only lose your current amount of souls and a small amount of progress.

On the other hand, Dark Souls has no problem being cheap as well. Fighting can occur in a phone booth or on a precious ledge. There are several spots in the game that appear to be solid ground, but instead you simply fall to your death. Enemies don't take friendly fire, which could be forgiven, but they can actually attack through their counterparts. Something annoying about charging a mage between their spell casts only for an arrow to fly out of his chest and into yours. Hitting a wall often stuns the player, the enemies can clip through solid walls with impunity. Because of the tight quarters and large enemies, it's understandable for some allowance, (also to not let players use right-hand domination and bottle necking to win out) but even player sized enemies launch attacks through walls. Enemies can also lock on with their ranged attacks when they aren't even visible on the screen.

Everything is cumbersome. Getting to locations often takes a good deal of running (on top of dealing with enemies). This is particularly annoying during runbacks to a boss. Yes, there are often shortcuts, though they could involve finding an alternative route to locating a closer (possibly hidden) bonfire. Even with the safest, fastest course discovered, these paths can take over 2 minutes which is tacked onto every single death until you take down the boss.

Quest-lines are nigh-impossible to follow without outside help. My first playthrough I pretty much failed to complete any of them. NPCs just move to new areas with often little indication to where they are going. Often, I had no idea there was even a quest occurring. Some areas (including the DLC) are hidden in such a way that even the most adventurous player will fail to locate.

Covenants exist, but it's much of a mystery in what they do, and what the rules of them are. My limited exposure left me with the impression they had far to many of them and several felt tacked on.

The menus are a chore. Weapons includes shields. Magic, Miracles, and Pyromancy are on the same page and separated by type and seemingly nothing more. And armors are just by sets, making mixing and matching set pieces for fashion or function an annoyance, though for a price of a 1000 souls, you get a bin to dump all your extras into to limit the glut of loot.

Story & World
There is one. Like almost everything in Dark Souls, its not explained. After the opening cut-scene, players can learn about lore from the occasional NPC, though that may requiring helping on their quest line, or giving them currency, or joining their covenant. Often, most of the lore is found in the description of items, provided the player finds them. So if you don't want to be bogged down with endless cut-scenes and exposition, then you are golden. But, it's also, very possible to complete the game without any real idea as to what was the point.

You can go anywhere really. Just there are boss fights that may lock off certain portions, but the player is just dumped into a world and allowed to just go. Little in the way of guidance or clutter. There is a sense of freedom and wonder but also means you may try tackling an area you are under-leveled, or find a place you missed and roll through with minimum resistance. Your first playthrough of Dark Souls, with or without help, is a unique experience.

Online
There is a constant online element in the game. You can invade, or invade others to garner various rewards. Messages can also be written done for other players to read. These tips often provide important information to the player. It's an interesting concept, but with the lack of internal structure in guiding players, it's easy for people to be trolled or repeatedly targeted by an enemy. And if you go offline to avoid the multiplayer, those often helpful tips are removed as well.

Overall
There is a lot to like and a lot to frustrate. The world and combat are solid draws, and you definitely feel a sense of accomplishment with each bit of progress. Skill is highly rewarded. The game is also intentionally nebulous and rough around a lot of edges. While I found it to be a worthwhile experience, the loop of playing over the same parts wore me down as did troll like tactics and the clunky nature of the UI. What ultimately stopped me from trying to best the last boss was the dex/cleric build just didn't suit my style and I often played it just like my first str/knight build.

An hard game at first, a fair game once mastered, the world of Dark Souls is probably one of the best things I've ever seen in a videogame, the level of details, the whole map is full of secrets and shortcuts and the lore is amazing

The best Dark souls ever. After i played all three indeed i confirm that thought it has a magnificent lore and gameplay such a classic to those who wants to play a RPG game which takes you to think about what to do and when to do such a good feeling while exploring this game when you get through an area or boss you're having trouble with it has a satisfaction factor when you surpass a challenge it's so good i've played it very enthusiastic.
