z.B. jedes Bücherregal hat einen anderen lustigen

+Einige nette ideen im Kampfsystem:
Maximalgrenze an Zufallsbegegnungen pro Gebiet,
jeder Kampf fordert zwar alles aber nach jedem Kampf
werden die HP wieder hergestellt (MP aber nicht)
+Zwischen Sequenzen werden mit schönen Bildern
und Text erzählt
+viele Lovecraft Innsider Witze, z.B. einiges in Innsmith
+es gibt SteamTradingcards

Cons:

-zu eintönige Kämpfe nach einer Weile
-Keine Nebenquests (abgesehen von
2 Optionalen Dungeons)
-leichte Balancing Probleme, manche Kämpfe sind
zu schwer und andere zu einfach
-unübersichtliches Waffen und Rüstungsmenü

Mehs:

-+Musik ist gut aber die Kampfmusik
ist nach einiger zeit Nervig
-+Grafik ist alles selbstgemacht keine vorgefertigten
Tilesets, meiner Meinung nach etwas zu simpel aber
stimmig in sich
-+Wer Lovecraft nicht kennt versteht einige der Witze nicht
z.B. einen Großteil der innsmith Episode oder einige
der Gegnerbeschreibungen

Fazit:

Auch wenn das Kampfsystem und der strikt lineare Aufbau
nerven können und die Grafik Geschmackssache ist, so überwiegen
die große menge an gutem Humor und die liebe zum Detail beim
Gesamteindruck.
Das Spiel ist kein must have aber es ist im Kombipack mit Breath of death
und eventuell reduziert durchaus eine Überlegung wert.
Ein netter Zeitvertreib, vor allem für RPG und Lovecraft Fans.

Sehr gelungenes, rundenbasiertes RPG. Ich bin Final Fantasy und Lovecraft Fan, guten Humor mag ich auch. Von daher geht es gar nicht anders, als dass ich dieses Spiel extrem feier. Die Story ist nett, der Soundtrack bombe und die Programmierung gelungen.

Für den Preis eine klare (!!!) Kaufempfehlung für jeden RPG Fan, dem Begriffe wie Cthulhu oder H.P. Lovecraft nicht fremd sind.

Gute 12 Stunden habe ich für mein erstes Durchspielen auf Normal gebraucht.

Cthullu ist ein kleines feines Spiel, rund um die Welt
des bekannten Schriftstellers Howard Philip Lovecraft.
Für RPG-Fans, die abends einfach unbeschwert eine kleine Runde zocken wollen,
genau das richige.
Das Spiel hat eine durschnittliche Retrografik und Retromusik/-sounds,
was ja aber auch so gewollt ist.
Die Spielwelt ist klein, mancher Dungeon ist zu lang, bzw. langweilig, die Hand voll Städte ebenso und bis auf ein paar Häuser, sowie je eine Taverne und Ausrüstungshändler,
gibt es auch kaum etwas anderes.

Was macht dieses Spiel dann so besonders?
Wie alle anderen schon schrieben:

1. Die witzige, charmante Story und die abgedrehten Spielcharaktere.
Von Anfang kommt man aus dem Schmunzeln nicht mehr heraus und will einfach wissen
wie es mit dieser Chaostruppe weiter geht! Für Lovecraft-Fans ein doppeltes Fest.
Einfaches Schulenglisch reicht da völlig aus, um alles zu verstehen.

2. Das Gameplay.
Ganz entspannte Runden basierte Kämpfe mit einer schönen Auswahl an Fertigkeiten,
Zaubern und Gruppenkombinationen.
Auch das LevelUp ist kurzweilig, bleibt aber immer interessant für die Charakterentwicklung.
Nach dem erstmaligen Durchspielen schaltet man Bonusinhalte frei, die erneute Durchläufe zusätzlich motivieren.

Fazit: Dieses Spiel ist einfach nur ein herrliches, kurzweiliges Oldschool-Vergnügen.

Für RPG-Fans ganz klare Empfehlung. Das Runden-basierende Kampfsystem ist sehr gelungen und die Welt bzw. die Levels sind wirklich mit Liebe gestaltet. Aber was mir wirklich sehr gut an diesem Spiel gefallen hat waren die zwischensequenzen, die waren einfach irre lustig und der Soundtrack ist bombe!

Kthulhu, das schrecklichste Ungeheuer der Meere, rettet die Welt. Genau darum geht es in dem Old-school 16-Bit RPG. Die Geschichte dahinter ist eine urkomische Parodie, voll mit witzigen Dialogen, stimmiger Atmosphäre, lebendigen Charakteren und spannender Handlung, die dazu noch mit super Musik untermalt ist.
Fazit; Wer Grafikpracht, Mausgesteuere und die moderne Leier satt hatt, ist bei Cthulhu richtig. Ein äußerst durchdachtes RPG, mit genialen und aberwitzigen Situationen. Ein Spiel, das einfach Spaß macht. Für <1Teuro ein Must-Have.

Huge plus for the writing and premise.

Huge minus for the combat, which is dull, repetitive and, due to the monsters getting stronger every turn, difficult in a way that feels more punishing than rewarding.

I'd love to see what happens next, but not enough to put up with playing it.

I have gotten this game to run only once since I've bought it, and it took enough black magic that I could have just summoned Cthulhu myself. I have had to hide this game in my Steam library so that I stopped trying for hours to make it run whenever I see it.

Buy this game only if you hate yourself.

A prime example of “enjoy the story, skip the game.” I like the writing in this, all the characters feel unique and the parody of H.P. Lovecraft’s works is what drew me into this game. But, in contrast, the dungeons take forever to get through with no convenient way of running from enemies. Every time I’m in one, my patience for this game lowers until the point where I stop playing it. I bought this game almost 10 years ago and it took me until now to muster up enough patience to finally finish it. And sadly, it wasn’t worth it in my opinion.

It's not often I review games. I think this might be a first.

I have been playing this game since it came out 10 years ago. I remember when it came out on the Xbox 360 10 years ago. I remember being delighted at how well this game was put together. it was hilarious, clever, and really does pull at your heart strings. I lost access to my Xbox, but even after 8 moves, 2 relationships, 2 dogs, 4 cats, and 5 jobs, Ive always remembered this game. I recommend it to literally everyone I talk to in any context. Its usually inappropriate.

My point, this is a great game. I was so excited to see this on the Summer Sale. I can't wait to force all my friends to play it and make them talk to me about it. We can chat about how cool the bridges are in the first 5 minutes of game play.

Cthulhu Saves the World is a love letter to old 16bit RPGs which... I have zero affinity with, never played one at the time they were popular so I have no nostalgia for them. And that's mainly the only reason I didn't really enjoyed this game and didn't bother to finish it. That however is not a valid reason to give a thumbs down, quite the contrary. You can see just how passionate the devs were with this game and that love and care passes though to the player. I might not like this nich genre, but that doesn't mean this isn't a good game.

On top of that, this has a nice comedic twist to the Cthulhu mythos which I really enjoyed. Soundtrack is cool too.

Cthulhu Saves the World is a enjoyable 16 bit style rpg game. There is a lot of parody and humor in the game which will give you some laughs. For the most part the game feels mostly linear. The combat is fairly straight forward like most traditional rpg's from the 8-16 bit era however in Cthulhu Saves the World there are some quality of life improvements and differences you don't see in most old school rpg games like this.

The first thing that is nice about this game is that there is a set number of random encounters in dungeons that is shown to the player. So if there are 25 battles left in a dungeon once you finish those you can not trigger another fight by walking unless you go into the menu and choose the fight option. I really liked this because it saved me some frustration trying to search for treasures without having to stop and do a battle every 10 seconds. Another thing that I liked just as much was that when you level up you get to pick between option A or B. Within option A or B could be different stat attributes or spells/techs. I thought this was cool. I also liked that the enemies would scale up by 10% in damage each round which makes the game more challenging even on the normal level. One more battle mechanic was the combo system where you can deliver some really high powered moves if your combo meter is high so for some fights you will need to utilize this or else its very unlikely to win the fight. This kind of mixes up gameplay for some boss fights so it doesn't feel stale.

My biggest complaint would be that the steam overlay does not work well with this game. If you want to take screenshots you can hit F12 and it will work however if you try bringing up the overlay or one of your steam friends messages you and you respond your F12 will likely not work unless you reset your game. Another problem I have with this is that if I wanted to look at a guide or something you basically can not do that unless you don't care about screenshots. Fortunately you are able to save your game at any time which is very convenient so if you had to shut down and restart the game to get F12 to work again it is quick to do.

Most of the music is a standard sounding old school rpg type themes with a few of them being better than I expected. The environments were nothing that special or memorable which is fine. There are really the same few combat animations being spammed as the game plays like a rpg maker game during combat. The characters aren't fleshed out much especially the last two that you get which is fine. Where this game shines is some of the funny dialogue between characters both in your party and boss enemies that you will face. Even the regular mob enemies have entertaining descriptions and names.

Would I recommend this? I definitely would recommend this given that the game is $3 on steam right now and has been as low as 50 cents on steam during sales. Also grey markets have this game at about 70 cents right now which is totally worth it if you have a itch for this type of game. The game took me about 24 hours to complete. I don't think there is a lot of replay value in this. My biggest tip would be to go for agility on all of your characters.

A quaint little RPG, good for a few chuckles and some cute time killing fun. Pretty basic gameplay and humor, but everything works and the whole thing has a sort of 8-bit amateur charm about it. If you play through the game and its New Game Plus sort of mode you'll get a good 8-12 hours of RPG out of it, and that's honestly more than enough for the amount this thing brings to the table.

Better than breath of death.

It's funny. It's silly. Don't expect too much from the RPG, that's mostly just the skin to get you through the story. I enjoyed it and it tries very hard to grease the pain points typical in RPGs. Battles are fast, XP is fast, combat is mostly pretty easy.

No regrets about this game, it's definitely unique.

The game is fun overall. The story is cute, and characters are comical. The combat is unbalanced early on, the way to win feels like exploiting mechanics instead of playing the way you are intended to. I have finished the game but steam didn't track my hours fully, since I was offline at the time. If you can get through the initial annoyances, you'll enjoy the game. It was definitely worth the money.

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#272 out of 558)... it's time for Cthulu Saves The World.

You can probably figure out everything you need to know about Cthulu Saves The World from its title alone. Like the rest of developer Zeboyd Games' output, it's a retro Japanese-style RPG in the vein of the NES Final Fantasies or Dragon Quests that relies on the inherent humor of its premise (and generally snappy dialog and short time-to-completion) to hold players' interest. While nowhere near so focused or compelling as Zeboyd's finest work (Cosmic Star Heroine), Cthulu is definitely one of their better titles, and certainly worth checking out on a rainy day.

What you see is what you get.

The dialog in this game is great. The visuals are passible at best. The combat is solid. Looking at the videos and screenshots will let you know pretty fast if this is a game for you. Its not a long game, but for the price it really doesn't have to be.
