Once again Gaijin demonstrates a complete inability to understand why free to play games like Apex and its ilk do so well. You have to attract a butt load of players with a balanced game in its free state. Battle pass items should be cosmetic only, not items that have any impact on your stats, ever. Getting 5% of 1,000,000 players to buy your battle pass is way more lucrative than getting 15% of 100,000 players. Low conversion rates are made moot with a big enough player base. This is better for profits and better for players. It is a no-brainer business model for freemium gaming.
War Thunder and Enlisted are great games made terrible by this exact fundamental misunderstanding of microtransactions. Sad to see another another title of theirs go that way.
I'd rather it be pay to play with a balanced progression system than pay to win freemium.

The pve runs on a mobile game energy system. Despite this, it's the most enjoyable part of the game.
The pvp matchmakes based on easily exploitable gear score brackets. You'll be fighting minmaxers.
Any gear that is of the orange rarity or higher doesn't exist without paying. Don't think about it, you live at purple tier only until you've bought those specific parts with real-world money.
The only clan content is organized pvp at the highest possible brackets; wallet combat, essentially. Winning in this consistently an extreme amount of times is required for obtaining orange rarity gear.
So why play? Because building cars is fun, driving is comfortable, and the combat is nice. In short bursts, it works; and heck, it's free.

Combat isn't much better, a huge issue is that you can literally do 99% of someones HP, and if someone comes in at the last second and shoots them, it becomes an assist, and you WANT kills if you wanna earn a good chunk of scrap metal. You can also get put into games with players who are leagues above you in levels, but are running a vehicle with a low powerscore so they're allowed to fight against you, and you get your shit stomped.

I did play Robocraft for a while before this, which was a sci-fi version and probably the first take in the genre.
Most games ultimately have to draw the line somewhere on how much freedom the player can be given when it comes to customization of their character or build. Not here, though.
In this custom vehicle builder the only limitation to the configuration of your vehicle's shape, control and weaponry is the player's imagination. And that's quite a rare thing to see these days.
Now of course, that doesn't mean just because you CAN make your car a 20 meter pipe of cubes, that you SHOULD. Some builds are more popular than others in how practical they are.
Thankfully, game does cater to those of us who aren't the builder-type with an exhibition menu where people can upload their designs and get them liked and downloaded by the community.
A LOT of your time will be spent in the exhibition just browsing and trying different designs. It's quite fun.
The number of maps and game modes in the game are ok at best, could use some more. I wish the limited time modes that show up from time to time were a permanent thing. Some of them were really fun like Dronapocalypse.
Sadly, I cannot recommend this game at its current state because of one massive glaring flaw with it.
The economy makes the grind for new parts and pieces ABSOLUTELY UNBEARABLE. And this is coming from a warframe veteran with nearly 3000 hours in that game. After 300 hours I got a total of maybe 5000-6000 credits?!?!?! That's barely enough for one complete low level build with a few purple epic parts.
A SINGLE Legendary weapon starts from around 2000-2500 credits. A complete build needs SEVERAL different pieces of EACH category of part in weapons, movement parts, hardware and frame.
That's not even the worst part. Legendary is not the most powerful rarity. That award goes to the relic rarity of weapons. The cheapest relic weapon is the Typhoon Cannon at 25,000 credits.
Is there a way to progress faster? Yes, you can buy a premium subscription which allows you to earn more reputation and resources in battles at about 50% faster rate. 7 days is about 6 US dollars. Can't get any with in-game credits.
Does that mean the game is pay to win? A lot of people will say yes without hesitation but personally I will say no it technically really isn't, because you CAN EVENTUALLY get those relic weapons for free if you grind long enough so this is more like warframe's pay to skip the grind kind of system.
However, that being said, EVEN IF you were on a premium subscription every day you play the game it will take you no less than 1000 hours to earn ONE relic weapon. So it really doesn't matter if you pay premium or not. The economy balance will absolutely screw you over either way with that unbearable rate of currency income.
You don't HAVE to have the relic or even legendary weapons to perform well in matches and raids, though. I still had my good fun moments with my few purple pieces. But I still run into that one dude with a 300 health build and a scorpion strapped to his hood who shoots me for absurd damage from a ridiculous range at the 5k power score level im competing in. Stuff like that happens far too frequently for me to recommend this experience for you.
Developers have given a lot of free premium days in the past as apology or gifts when the occasion demands it. But it's like setting the house on fire and giving the owner a small bag of sand. It's still not acceptable whatsoever.

You build a vehicle with parts salvaged from old vehicles, van doors, airplane fuselage, etc. They have different sizes and armor values, different connection points. There's both PVP and some PVE modes, where you team up with other players or fight AI on your own with a story.
There's definitely some grind issues, and pay for progress. They try to balance the game by having all the parts = a point total, but you can just get a higher tier chassis that supports more weapons and go light on armor to obliterate low level players.
It's fun and a bit addicting for a bit, try it out. There is a launcher for it so the download size is deceptive. It auto opens on windows bootup so uhhh, disable that.

this is a game about building and piloting your own vehicle, only the devs have locked crafting behind a paywall.
meaning you cannot make anything without either spending real money OR selling thousands of basic resources (you get like 50 per game, even level 2 weapons will cost you hours of time each).
i thought the game was fantastic until i tried getting a level 2 autocannon, then looked up forums and found out that it cam take OVER 1 YEAR to get to higher-end items.
do not recommend, outright cash-grab.
oh i didnt mention, but those tiny rewards per game are also limited to a low amount per week AKA play too much and you get no rewards AT ALL.

Game is practically P2W as well. You can pay to put more parts on your vehicle than other people of your level and receive some pretty OP content that'll require dozens of hours worth of grind for F2P players.
It's a shame because the game is lots of fun, but it quickly becomes repetitive when you're stuck with just a few parts and the game's dangling the fun stuff at ridiculous prices($30 for a few parts!?).
Unique and interesting concept for a game, execution ruined by greed.

My ass has 2,000+ hours in this game, and I've come to the point I can build pretty much anything but relics. CWs are toxic as hell, mind, and believe you me when I say I'll be staying out of that nonsense.
As should you.
Crossout's tutorial throws you right into the PvP with a battle right out the gate, and introduces you to crafting, which is something a grand majority of your gameplay will be based around. Keep in mind, especially, that building some of the best stuff in the game requires an EXORBITANT amount of grinding, so be prepared to sink a LOT of hours into this game if you like it that much - or a lot of money.
The playerbase of XO as far as I've seen across average matches, patrols, bedlam and so on is pretty braindead and stubborn, so I'd advise staying away much as you can. I honestly can't believe there's drama in a game where you murder each other in big scary cars. Like...man. Is that really worth it? Christ.
The beginning of the game is a slog, but even later in it's an even bigger slog. You know your general rarity tiering in pretty much every game, now - white, green, blue, purple, orange and beyond? Yeah, get used to that, because every part in the later rarity tiers requires parts from the rarity before it AS WELL AS huge amounts of raw materials. Of course, if you just sit on your backside and do nothing but Crossout all day, this game's good, but it's such an utter timesink I'd really advise trying a different game that makes your grind more meaningful.
Play Warframe, dude. It's more worth your time.

Let me talk about some key elements of the game.
GRINDING
Don't be fooled by the fact that the game is free. The small playerbase is used to invest lots of money in the game, so as a new player, or a player who really plays for free, it's a dead end. You will be smashed by the others, since the items are tier based and every tier is more expensive than the prior one. The last one takes few months, even years of grinding, depending on how often you play, of course, if you don't pay real money. And the game is full of them, because of the players which blindly buy packs. There were decent ways to farm in game coins fast, but don't worry, the developers made sure to patch them, so everything is a slow process and you don't get anything significant without paying them.
Also, don't have a mindset where you consider buying a single pack worth, for a single overpowered item. This never stops, they always release packs, and after that they spit on those specific items, so you are encouraged to buy new ones.
I will rate this with 4/10.
GAMEPLAY
The game had a period when it was decent. But they made sure to screw that too. Now the game revolves around cringe playstyles, like pushing, incapacitating, exploiting, slowing, ramming and most importantly, the no need of aiming. The developers love auto-aim, so even on PC, you see it everywhere. There is no such thing as FAIR PLAY in this game. I'd say that exploiting stuff is about 60%, randomness is 30% and skill is 10%. The percentage of skill went in a constant decrease over the time. There are very low chances to see strategic gameplay, like map control, taking vantage points, everything is either full camp, where you wait your enemy and incapacitate them, or brainless push your enemies and also, you incapacitate them by pushing them and pinning them onto a wall. Every update goes into that direction, even more deep. Everything with potential and needed skill is diminished or removed, i guess that comes from the fact that the amount of people which would embarrass themselves and playing something that's not respectable, are also not that bright, and they would take worse financial decisions, that means more money into the devs' pockets if those people are satisfied.
I will rate with 5/10.
GAME BALANCE
This is awful. I won't explain much here, it's basically determined by what brings most income to the devs. What encourages the players to pay, is extremely strong. After it becomes old and there is new stuff bringing fresh money, that item is balanced or it goes into oblivion and no one uses it anymore. There is a big gap between what weapons give you, the time to kill differs alot. Many can instakill you, while some take even minutes. Of cours, if you even manage to pull it off.
2/10.
CREATIVITY
It got diminshed by the time, which is very sad, because it is the main attraction of this game. Now everyone uses ugly crafts, and most likely, easy to use and copied from exhibition.
A solid 7/10.
GAME MECHANICS
Bugs are very numerous, they take months to be solved (while money based packs are released more often xD), or.. they never get solved. Because the engine is like 20 years old. So in my opinion, it has no further potential. The game reached its pinnacle some time ago, now it's only falling down. Mobility is awful, and there are various ways to even decrease the mobility. Is the game related to reality? Hell no.
4/10.
MANAGEMENT
As i said, bugs are not solved too often, not even the game breaking ones. After all, it doesn't give them more money. They don't care too much about the english speaking community. They don't care at all about your progress in the game. You can farm for something you desire for months or years, they can always render it useless. The only consolation you will get is that you can sell it or scrap it, which gives you way less of its original value, when you decided to go for it. They sometimes decide to add A FEW additional details on the current maps. They take the maps away (why tho?), and after few months or years, they release them back with like 4-5 more barrels, 2-3 more rocks and one source of smoke. The game has a small playerbase and too many modes, so queue times are long. The game servers are pretty unstable, you sometimes might find yourself disconnected, with no possiblity to go back to the current match. As last resort, the game decides to ban you for unsportsmanlike behavior, because you left the battle. Another detail i must mention, if you are not from europe or north america, don't even bother trying the game, the lag makes it close to unplayable.
2/10.
FAIR PLAY
One good aspect of the game is the reduced number of cheaters, you will be really lucky to see one, honestly. But you won't miss them, since the players can exploit so many things in this game, and it's even more frustrating than encountering cheaters. Cheaters can be banned, but you won't be banned for exploiting and ruining someone's experience. Auto aim is all around the place, and sometimes it is more rewarding than aiming manually and playing fair. Sometimes, you will find yourself dead in the beginning of the round, because of a sneaky guy. That's also a very common thing.
5/10
COMMUNITY
Overall, the community is pretty toxic. Some of this toxicity is provided by the frustration, frustration that comes from the gameplay. Some players wanna win with any price, they have no honour, so ruining your experience is not an obstacle for them. They embarrass themselves in the most deplobrable ways just to win, and the developers strongly encourage that.
I will rate the community with 6/10, after all, it is not the worst.
AI IN THE GAME
Crossout relies on bots alot, because the community is small and activity is low. Man, sorry to say but, if you would hire a janitor, he would do a better job on the AI honestly. The bots have the following behavior, rush blindly at the beginning of the round, they take agro on some player and they chase that player for the rest of the round. Of course that based on that, you can just agro bots, hide and let the teammates kill them. That means, most of the times, bots are useless, their best contribution to the team is to block teammates.
1/10.
This comes from someone who played the game for over 5k hours (i didn't often play with steam opened), and played alongside the best players in the game, for a long time, so winning was not an issue. Just imagine how bad this game is designed, that you hate it even when you win alot.
My advice for potential new players? Stay the hell away from this game.

Unfortunately there's a few bad points... firstly the most fun is had when you have alot of different parts to use when crafting your vehicle... but to get more than a few of them requires literally years of grinding, or as in many games these days... you can pay them to get coins to skip the grind that they created... not to mention the packs that are pretty expensive too, but you will begin to feel that they are worth it with the amount of grind you have been doing otherwise.
Often it seems the priority for development is the introduction of new packs to sell rather than making the game more enjoyable or adding more features, or fixing bugs, probably down to pressure from the publisher, but that's how it is.
The matchmaking leaves alot to be desired, as it is only based on 'power score' of parts - an number given to your vehicle based on the parts you have added to it, though this makes team composition feel arbitrary and often a diceroll... as your team can be made of a set of build types that will very much not work well together, and usually don't, leaving you feeling like you just wasted 5 minutes. The devs have had a very long time now to rethink it, and the benefits would be huge, but it's just not a priority, if the base game works... may as well just make more stuff to sell, or introduce more mechanics to slow down the players progress - like an extra step to crafting that requires this fun new resource that someone has to collect, its frustrating with how fun the game can sometimes be.
I could keep going on about all the things wrong with the game, but frankly I'm tired of it, and they are probably either more nuanced or more subjective... or just boring, so I will stop here...
So TL;DR... potentially a fun game, but kneecapped by excessive grind designed to encourage you to spend, which seems to distract the devs from making the game better.

The main issue is the gear score system is flawed, players can abuse builds to get large p2w weapons into low tier games. They then run around practically one shot their opponents. Saw one poor guy get destroyed within seconds of game starting in a 9k gear-score game.
If that's not bad enough, the network infrastructure has to be consistently the worst I've seen in any multi-player game. Currently blamed on Covid 19 but it's always had issues.
If those issues were fixed it would be awesome! but sadly the devs just want to rake in money from cashop and we know that will never change.

On the one hand, I absolutely love and adore this game. It is such a unique concept and it has come a long way since closed beta testing. I fondly remember the fun I had when I first joined back in winter of 2018-19.
However, even though I want too enjoy the game as much as I did back then, I simply cannot. There are too many player vehicles that abuse broken mechanics (like wedges and 1-hit-KO melee builds). Back in 2018, Crossout was in a simpler time. I could let my creative side flow and build an attractive vehicle that was actually effective in combat. Now in 2020, I feel like I am being punished for letting my creativity flow and opposing the lure of the current meta.
Overall, Crossout is a good game with major flaws that need ironing out. The game initially suffered from Devs-don't-listen-to-community syndrome, but even though the devs started listening more and more to the community, the damage had already been done.
Crossout is a game you will want to quit multiple times, but you will always end up crawling back. I've spent way to much money on this game, but at least I'm glad that the devs used it to improve their game.

However, If you want to advance, be competitive and have fun playing you MUST pay real money.
I thought that I would be able to just grind out what I needed to advance in the game, but no, even after you grind to unlock the upgrade parts for your vehicle and grind for the materials to build said upgrades you STILL have to pay real money to CRAFT THE UPGRADES.
And let me stress, I really enjoyed this game. The crafting vehicles is so much fun, the combat is tons of fun and how you combat is only limited by your imagination (watch some of the youtube videos)
BUT
I CANNOT get behind a game that makes you pay to stay competitive, not even pay to win, but pay to just stay competitive.
You have a hundred different ways with custom skins and other content you can monetize, but instead the devs chose to monetize a core game play mechanic. It's literally like if a certain well known shooter (whose name means two weeks) made you pay to be able to use different guns in game.
Do not recommend.

You can have lots of fun and get good parts without having to pay. Of course premium or some dollars will speed up ur grind. I do enjoy the battles none the less. And u even have some pve content available like raiding another players huge war machine. So good fun :)

You have to be content building a banger and rolling around the wasteland getting nailed 50% of the time.
If you ignore all the buying and crafting BS the game is actually quite fun, the garage/building system is interesting and quite well put together.
Like Lego meets Mad Max, and who doesn't want a piece of that action.
I'm going to NOT recommend this game because it could be so much better.

The actual combat is the only good part. The whole faction system and bad lore is just a sad cover to diversify and complicate their money sucking systems. Matches are 3 to 5 min long with very limited depth. There’s nothing else worth mentioning.
You install this game you’re gonna play it, enjoy it briefly, then realize to get any of the shit you actually want to use you’re gonna need to grind for hundreds of hours, for every single item, or bend over and drop your wallet with 100’s in it. Save your time, and as for your money, you could buy multiple games each better than this trash for it would cost you to play even the majority of this one.

The beginning might be a bit boring, because you don't have all these cool details to build your car, but as soon as you get to level 10 (a week of relaxed playing in the evening) you'll get up a whole bunch of new crafts and that's where the fun begins!
Overall nice skill-based game. I love this lego feel it has

F*** you with those ♥♥♥♥♥♥ economic models, this is totally ♥♥♥♥ed up.
Some weapons worth 15.000 coins = 200€
or hundreds of hours of farm
For 1 weapon.
You might need more than 1 weapon on a vehicle.

in short, it's pay to win - there is no mistake about that, but is the game bad?
No, it isn't. Most of the time you will get pared with people your rankskill so you really won't feel the Pay 2 Win aspect of the game until much later in the game.
Physics in this game are good enough to make it an enjoyable experience + there is a huge number of weapons you can choose from and they all kinda feel okay.
Besides the classic game modes, you also have a RPGish element to the game where you explore this barren world and try to figure out who you are while doing missions for different factions - so it does have a story but it's very weak.
So do i recommend it?
-Yeah, i started playing this well aware that it's probably one more p2w game on steam but since, well, half of the world is in quarantine, you might as well try it out - it's actually pretty fun.

This is a good game but i'm not gonna give you 300€ nor farm 4000 hours to try all builds.
F*** you with those shitty economic models, this is totally fucked up.
