The Future of Unlimited Action
Run, jump and blast through the convoluted pathways and secret chambers of the giant mechanical tower known as Babel. Along the way, you’ll face legions of futuristic enemies—minions of the “Order of Noah,” an evil faction that has seized control of the tower. At the top: ancient knowledge that can grant eternal life. Who will get there first?

A hardcore action game with GBA-inspired graphics and a pulse-pounding techno soundtrack, Critadel offers a virtually limitless variety of weapon and item configuration options. With upgradeable playable characters and continuously reconfigured branching paths, it’s a game that’s different every time you play it!

Features
  • Three different playable characters (fearless fighter Nox, mysterious cultist Ahnushu and combat android Alice), each with their own unique starting weapons/items, upgradeable abilities and unlockable costumes
  • 360° aiming cursor allows you to blast enemies in any direction
  • Dodge-roll maneuver with limited invincibility for avoiding attacks
  • Powerful weapons that can be purchased or found randomly in the tower
  • Collectible artifacts that give passive bonuses when equipped
  • Two types of in-game currency: crystals (found throughout the tower) and orbs (earned by defeating bosses)
  • Two difficulty modes, plus a Boss Rush mode for replaying boss battles

pretty fun roguelite that's unfortunately a little bogged down by the fact that the devs dont seem to have any kind of social media (at least english), making it hard to see what's actually going on with the game. still worth trying out though, especially after the quality of life update which fixed a lot of issues people previously had (no keyboard rebinding for example)

It has some minor quirks, mostly in the menus and controls, but if you can get past those you'll find a fun shooty shooty bang bang roguelike.

Edit: Note to developers everywhere. Please make it harder to accidentally delete your files. Maybe don't make quitting the game and deleting your files look basically identical with identical inputs but one screen past the main title.

Thank you,
-Someone who will never play this game again.

This game needs a difficulty adjustment. I see the difficulty spike now is mainly the RNG but not in the sense of getting bad items, but rather no items at all. Rarely get weapons or attachments from completing a room. The only reason I progressed to the 4th floor was luck with getting decent gloves... once, in about 20 runs. That's not fun. There is a shop but it's pointless when you get a couple rooms in a row at the beginning but not enough credits to buy anything useful (or at all) just setting you up for failure immediately at the first boss if you have the wrong character/boss combo or just making it more difficult than necessary otherwise. Some of it I find it just stupid like trying to deal with enemies on the ground while having multiple turrets outside of the screen (so you cant do a risk assessment beforehand) bombarding you as soon as you enter a room. When I finally do get weapons, a lot of times they're duplicates which only lets you use them longer if damaged instead of a scrapping system or giving it a +1 stat like an upgrade. How the game is right now, most of my deaths feel cheap. There's a little meta progression but in no way rewarding enough for me to keep playing.

Fun game with great art and effects; albeit a bit simple in design. Climb the tower and see if you can reach the top. Little to no story aside from that. The difficulty curve is very fair and so far I've made it halfway up the tower.

Biggest gray area going into the game: What type of Rogue-like is this?

The game is linear with choice of which rooms to go to... think Hades. Enter a room, fight enemies, and choose 1 of 2 exit doors. There is some extra planning involved when obtaining the map item since you can see the route to certain rooms far in advance.

Some downsides to the game is the somewhat strange unlockable system: essentially once you reach certain floors you permanently unlock a massive batch of new items, slightly stronger than the items currently in the pool. This serves the progression curve quite nicely, as in the power boost from the new item pool will allow you to progress slightly further each time; however, it is very overwhelming to see so many items unlocked all at the same time.

Additionally, the first few pools of items are very bland in terms of effects (minus a few core items that are always useful such as the map), and leave a lackluster first impression during the first few runs. The initial limited pool of items also leaves the impression that there are no impactful choices to make when playing a run, although this feeling is thankfully remedied very quickly once new items are unlocked.

There are a few quality of life improvements that I expect will be added soon given other feedback I have seen: namely the ability to Remap Keybindings (default controls have been fine for me, but everyone has their preferences) and rearrange weapons in your inventory without dropping them on the ground.

Overall, the game is quite fun and I can see myself playing the game into the 20-40 hours range. I expect fans of Enter the Gungeon and other Rogue-lites to enjoy this game.

I love the clear, beautiful spritework on this game, specially the bosses. The main protagonists of this roguelite, however, are the weapons, they are really varied and pretty fun to learn to use. Even the ones that at the beginning seem crappy grow on you. The controls are great and the music is ok.
My only gripe would be that the three main characters aren't really that different between each other.
Great game that promises a lot of hours of fun.

This is one of those cases where I wish there was a 'meh' review option.

Overall it's a very solid game, but there are a ton of minor annoyances that really stack up to make it frustrating to play.
I really love the art style, and there is a decent variety of guns to mess around with.
There is some decent depth with RPG mechanics and artifacts, but they didn't take many risks with making things exciting, with most just giving you extra HP or dealing more damage. This can be overlooked due to the variety of guns.
I'm going to keep playing it just fine, but I think waiting for a while to get a more polished version would be best.

Notable annoyances:
-There is a map menu and a gun/artifact menu. One is esc/V to open, the other tab to open. You MUST press the SAME button to close them. Esc will not close the map, and tab brings up a secondary screen on the gun menu, which you must press tab again to close.
-You can hold 9 guns, yet you cant rearrange them easily. You can press hotkeys to swap, but without reordering, it's difficult to keep track of what your keys do between runs.
-By dodge rolling at the right time you can 'perfect dodge', this rewards you by giving you extra stun lag, which stops you from shooting for a few extra frames and throws off your momentum, making it feel actively worse than normal dodging.

It's pretty good.
If you stumbeld upon this game you probably played a few roguelites before, so let's skip to what it brings to the table :

- Autochess-like synergies : bring more weapons with the same type of shots or damage to get bonuses for every weapon sharing those characteristics
- Weapons mods. Most are quite basic (more damage, new damage type, chance at piercing bullets or explosive rounds, etc) but it's a nice addition regardless.
- Bundled unlockables : complete a zone for the first time and the pool of items is dramatically extended (~30 items enter it, with better rarity than the last bundle)
- Characters meta progression is XP based. You get some at the end of your run, which let you rank up, which in turn let you equip perks unique to that character. Those perks are also unlocked with ranks, and you won't bring them all at once.
- Bosses drop some currency that is mainly used to unlock shortcuts to zones, unlock characters and their outfits, or buy a starting item for your next run.
- Autoaim. It can be an hassle sometimes, but it's often quite useful against some ennemies, mainly bosses, since you can simply lock on them and concentrate on dodging their attacks.
- World navigation let you see what kind of room is available to choose, if you find a map you can even plan your road a little.

Beside that, it's mainly a nice run 'n gun, nothing too special, but well executed.
