Über das Spiel
Explore a random generated world populated by dangerous creatures, build a dwarf fortress, gather resources, and craft all the items, weapons, and armor you need.
GOD-SIMULATION
You control a tribe of dwarves by giving them commands to dig in certain places, attack enemy creatures, and build houses and other structures. You'll need to provide your dwarves food and clothing, as well as help them with magic when fighting against other inhabitants of the world. You start the game with one dwarf and gain additional dwarves as your experience level increases.
SANDBOX GAME
Each game level has many layers of earth to explore, from the sky down to boiling subterranean lava. The level is randomly generated as an island, restricted by natural boundaries: oceans on the edges, lava beneath it, and the sky above. Other features include day and night and changing weather conditions. The worlds differ in size, humidity, temperature, terrain, and flora and fauna. Abandoned halls and rooms with treasure are hidden somewhere deep within the islands.
CRAFTING
One feature of the game is a user-friendly system of recipes for crafting. The recipes are organized and easily accessible. You can craft dozens of different items: building blocks for houses, furniture, decorations, weapons, armor, ammunition, and food for your dwarves.
RTS
At the outset you find the recipes for basic tools and items, and build a small house with places to sleep and eat. Then, the size of the tribe increases and catches the attention of other inhabitants of the world. Most of them are night creatures and dwell underground. The worlds are full of fantasy creatures like zombies, skeletons, goblins, beholders, ghosts, giant spiders, and others. Some of them pay little attention to the dwarves, as long as the dwarves do not come into their field of vision. Others gather into quite large groups and try to break into the dwarves’ residence.
TOWER DEFENSE
Especially dangerous are the waves of monsters that appear from time to time from portals. So, do not neglect to build a safe haven with strong walls and numerous trapdoors, cells, firing towers, and secret passageways.
MAGIC
As a divine being, you possess various spells. You can speed up the movement of the dwarves, open small portals, illuminate dark caves to scare away monsters, evoke natural magic in the form of rain or tree growth, hurl fireballs at the monsters’ heads, and find useful resources and hidden rooms underground, thereby helping to speed up resource extraction, exploration of the world, and the population growth of your assistants.

- Zwerge manchmal etwas orientierungslos, teilweise verzweifelst du an ihnen
- Baggermaschinen sinnlos?
Schnell noch da was abbauen, da noch was erforschen...was? Es ist schon 2 Uhr Nachts? Für ein paar Stunden (200 bei mir...xD) kann ich es nur empfehlen.

best new and funny bug: every time a friend of mine connects, the dwarves are doubled, 6 -> 12 -> 24 -> 48... dwarfs half of them are in game, but for all the character sheets exits and all have no skils.
its such a shame that that DLC release after DLC release the game is more and more buggy and destroyed for customers that bought it from beginning on. For me this is too much, i will now completely uninstall it.

Map Generation FAR TO OFTEN THE FOREST MAP gives you a what would be considered a BARREN WASTE or absolute WETLANDS, Not forest.
Clear out your flooded base only to sit there longer because as soon as you finish, ITS DOWN POURING AGAIN.
Dwarfs constantly complaining about not being able to get to some RANDOM LOCATION that nothing is at. I had one complaining that they couldn't get in the SOLID Ground which had nothing to want to go after.
After level 7 the Dwarfs seem to think YOU are the one to pick up resources, not them. AND WHEN THEY DO, it's one item at a time when the Dwarf with out a backpack is supposed to pick up 2 items.
The Logic of the Armored Backpack... Warriors can use it with their weapon, BUT MAGES AND ARCHERS CAN'T... A warrior can't use a shield with it... ITS ON THE BACK NOT HAMPERING ARMS. Archers and Mages need both hands so them not using shields makes sense... But not an Armored Backpack where their hands are free??? TO add, Mages and Archers can wear EVERY ARMOR TYPE, except that Backpack. It's either the Armored Backpack and no weapon or weapon and no Armored Backpack.
Raids, WARRIORS are walking away and doing other things instead of Fighting...
Professions DON'T MATTER... Miners are tinkering away on Carpentry Tables, while Cooks are mining, while stone masons are smithing, smiths are fishing, fishers are chopping trees, loggers are cooking, hunters are going out attacking enemies, archers are working the stone cutter, mages are running the grain mills and warriors are talking about beer to the heroes instead of helping out.
Things VANISH out of your inventory completely. To be specific, you attack a guardian in an deserted mine, collect EVERYTHING their holding in there, wine, nails, boards food, ore, coal... EVERYTHING... go to put things on the tables for them to consume and it's not in the inventory when you try minutes later and there is no reason other than a ghost throwing it out, that it should not be in there. And the counting system for items is absolutely messed up, You have six, rope to make the first armor, but the crafting table SAYS 6 but after hitting 6 it's telling you that you can make more. Or can't make more because 6 is really 4... Until you swap to a different thing to make and then OH THERE IS THE MISSING TWO ROPES.
Breaking things down, you have no REAL CLUE what you are getting, you only get a glimpse of it, and when breaking down pirate guns, you get iron and SOMETHING ELSE that never shows up in the inventory. Looks like it's supposed to be Sulfar or black powder but who knows for sure. Certain things you can't break down for other uses no matter how much of that item you have. 4 wood for 2 chairs, 2 chairs can't be broken down but a flimsy table can. The wood from a chair can be used to make coal. AND THERE IS THE OTHER THING... Go out and learn how to make charcoal and tell me this game makes sense in the way it does it. 3 wood to one soil doesn't make sense... should be 3 soil to one wood if you want to keep it to those specs. The Soil is to smother the flame and keep the wood smoldering not the other way around. Why can't you remelt nails into Iron ingots, which should be what they are doing with the Iron Ore, MAKING INGOTS or getting extremely weak iron ore items out of the iron collected.
Having an alternate location to go mine what's not left on the map, good idea with the portal magic, but it's opening your game up to other players raiding your game. And then YOU ARE NOT GUARANTEED THE SUPPLIES YOU WENT THERE FOR WHEN YOU GO BACK.
Dwarfs get stuck climbing on nothing or dancing in one spot because they can't pick something up for what ever the reason.
Tell the Dwarfs to swap this block out for that type of block, AND THERE IS A CHANCE THEY DO THE SWAP BUT DON'T, thus wasting the block type you said to swap with. And then there is them crafting things and carrying that item out into the field and losing it on the ground because they chose to chop a tree and tossed the item away to fight a beetle or an undead. And the next time you see that item is when your imp picks it up instead of the dwarfs. Highly annoying when that item happens to be something YOU DESPERATELY NEED, like a bow or staff or even a Defense Tower of some sort.
Speaking of Defense towers... THE CANNON IS USELESS AGAIN ANYTHING BUT THE PIRATES. And it's rare for the Pirate to actually make it to your base and then the Cannon does BARELY ANYTHING while their Ship's Cannon is Blowing holes in your castle, but your cannon can only hit the pirates close to it.... Still doing barely any damage to them. But every other tower will target the pirates and all forms of enemy near them, AND DO MORE DAMAGE than the Cannon.
Arrows... You can tell which Archers to use what arrows, but when it comes to Mages you can't tell them NOT TO USE SPECIFIC POTIONS... I found it EXTREMELY difficult to make the Flamethrower towers because the mages kept using up the fire potions on me at EVER CHANCE THEY COULD. As if a single Beetle is reason to cast Rain of Fire or Fire Ball.
And What point is there to the Pandora's Box if it's going to mess SOMETHING up on you if you open it. WHY WOULD I WANT A WEATHER CHANGE if I am in the Forest struggling to get wood due to lack of trees already, desertification isn't needed, or just barely made it by the second level and got sick of all the WHITE and now I am in the Desert getting Snowed on again because I opened the box.
I loved this game... Then it just kept getting added to and added to and NOTHING was or is being fixed with it... And I don't use mods with it because it's already messed up... Don't need a mod to make it any more worse than it is already.
Until its bugs and glitches are fixed, I won't be suggesting this to anyone else... I regret telling my wife to get it so we can play together, to find out ONLY TEN DWARFS to a player when both computers could handle far more than that. And we don't even play it together anyways. I don't think she even plays it anymore... She is more focused on Games that ARE NOT THIS MESSED UP FROM THE COMPANY'S ADD-ONS.

The A.I. on the dwarfs isn't very good and they tend to die, a lot, if you don't babysit them or eventually give them maxed out gear, and even with maxed out gear they still tend to just walk into deaths embrace like it's a long lost lover and stick around to get brutally murdered all while they just running around like headless chickens on fire... They also tend to get stuck, really easily, and just start running around asking for help like a lost kid in a store.
I liked to play this while I do chores such as laundry, cleaning, dishes, cooking, pay bills, basically adult things where you can kind of keep an eye on the game but it doesn't really matter what the game is doing as long as the dwarf slaves are working hard to collect everything...
It's not an amazing game, it's just a better then average, less then good game where I've probably put in too much time playing it, but I don't care because I like these kind of games.
I say buy it and play it, make up your own mind on the game, the feel of this game is just... different... it's probably why I have so much time into it, and will probably end up putting in more time down the road...

But now it's only grinding.
If you have responsibilities, have to work, study and all, keep away from this game because to do anything meaninful you have to put dozens of hours

Ultra grind game.
No choice, just quantity. Huge skills tree and you will need to build them all. If not, you don't progress. Your tactic will be mainly do them all.
Buggy to the point that after starting it, you need to restart if you want to see objects names in menu.
Characters getting stuck.
Characters not doing what they should and ordered to.
Boring crafting menus. Complex. Multi clicks to do something, simple common thing. Healing is the worst between grinding the 3 components, crafting them, and then 3 clicks in the menu to heal per number of dwarves.
Boring 2 level of depth in a 2D game.
Quickly repetitive including on exploration. At least for the same map. Maps are probably too big.
The same map is going to take ages to achieve and will oblige to repeat the same things all over again.
Lack of information on how to play or do something.
Hordes of same monsters attack on a regular basis by just increasing their number to the point my PC lag. This tower defense part of the game is not really an interesting one and will oblige to grind all over again to be able to heal. it just considerably slow down your progress without being really tactic or even amusing.
Why mitigated then? Because it is graphically nice, sometimes funny and will please some fans of the genre. The first hours are nice, not too repetitive. But after 6 to 8h on the same map... then comes the pain to me. Also, once you better get how to play, restarting to be more performing is not an option since it will takes age anyway and you will have to replay a long part of the game.
At the end, the worst submerges the good in my opinion.

I don't mind a challenge, but this game is just too shallow and clings to this one specific threat. The dwarves AI is so bad that they run straight into a horde of enemies when low, rather than retreating back into the shelter.
The game had promise. I wish the devs would spend more time fleshing out the core game, rather than releasing buggy DLC that adds little of value. Learn from the Terraria devs.

The game looks nice.... and thats about it.
A lot of bugs and irrational behaviours. AI is a joke.
It's just a pretty makeup on unpolished product.
Edit:
I've played for a bit longer but still it's a big NoNo.
Obvious issues with raycasting which can cause your dwarfs to die even in manual mode (in manual mode you have to move your dwarf before you attack another target.)
Lack of shortkeys, and a wall of clicks even for simple things - design for mobile.
AI do things in random order, lack of prioritisation in tasks queue.

Instead I found a product that's been selling updates for more years than my dog has been alive, yet is still burdened by it's original core flaws. As of 2/16/2021 there are more critical bugs than can be easily mentioned. Heroes get stuck in walls, walking, mining, etc... dwarves still don't pathfind consistently. NPC's and dwarves alike can aim ranged spells through walls at perfect 45 degree angles... it's a frustrating mess.
I haven't had a chance to evaluate all the new content I bought. I barely scratched one map before I was fed up enough to uninstall. These guys put marketability ahead of a working product. I'm sending it back, and revoking my previous kind words for this great early release turned cautionary tale.

Honestly, this review could have gone either way. I kind of wish Steam had a neutral option. My main beef is the dlc. Some things, like female dwarves and multiplayer to name a couple, feel like they should have been baseline. My mind goes to games like Terraria, where they never once charged us for patches that added new monsters, new items, new difficulties, etc. Sure, some of the dlc is cheap, but it all adds up, especially when you go to buy all of it. Base price without a sale for the game and all its dlc is $57.91 total.
At the time of writing this review I almost did a sweep of the dlc just because it all is on sale right now, but honestly, I don't know if I want to support development practices like this. I guess it's more the principle of the thing rather than any sort of price. I really like the game, but I don't feel it is worth a full $60. And losing out on content to lower the price is not really a fun option either. Honest, if it had been a $30-40 base game with free content patching, I would have been set to go. As it stands, if you're not a fan of having to pay and pay and pay as the devs add more content, maybe move on to another game. Like Terraria or Dungeon Keeper or Dwarf Fortress.

Like a dwarf at the end of a tunnel waiting for his idiot roommate to come dig the block in front of him, so then he could get the block after that. Or, like my friend's idiot dwarves who will spend way too much time going on the other side of the map to pick up stuff I have a portal next to. Womp womp.

The graphics are great. It's fun to play. Very creative and fun to build things. You can make it easy or more difficult depending on how much of a challenge you want. It can be very relaxing.
WARNING TO MAC USERS: sadly right now its unplayable on my mac - it crashes on me when I try. Hopefully they will fix that or at least offer it on GeForce.
I give this game an A -
The reason for the minus is because sometimes the dwarfs wonder off randomly which is annoying.

For example, the tutorial explains the first steps, how you craft your first weapon, how you equip it... and then abruptly stops after telling how to change game speed. Just like that. No more messages after that. No word about how magic works, how to place items, how to effectively defend yourself... This is a problem, more on that later. Now, I'm not a big fan about hand-holding either. I have no problem figuring out things for myself. But the tutorial stopped so unexpectedly that I thought I did something wrong and started a new game. Nope. Same problem.
So I continued playing, when there came a huge army of goblins and I was basically defenseless. They keep killing my villagers. There was one big goblin that I ordered to attack, but my villagers just ignore it completely and I don't understand why. They keep running into it until they get smashed. Ok. So it moved away. Yet my villagers keep running into the army without any sense of self-preservation and get pulped. I didn't give them orders to attack. By the way, this is another problem: When I want to cancel an attack order I have to click on the target. This doesn't work very well when there are many enemies at the same spot, like in a big army and no matter how you click, you can't cancel the attack because it most likely causes you to target a different enemy or do nothing at all. I really wish for more refined commands like in No Oxygen Included or the same polish in general.
Anyway, with my villagers constantly running into their deaths without me knowing why this became frustrating. I wanted to like the game and at first glance it looks promising but it turned into a confusing mess.

This game is a crafting menu scrolling simulator. Can't recommend.
It feels like the developers haven't played their own game to experience how annoying/tedious many things are, including dwarf pathfinding, grotesquely stupid AI where dwarfs run back and forth in combat. Not to even mention the crafting system and the interface that comes along with it...
It feels like the game has potential, but damn this game hasn't heard of user-friendliness at all.
And omg, you have to put food MANUALLY on a table for dwarves to eat it, since they won't pick it up automatically from a stockpile... That alone should make you skip this game!!!

The bugs happened often when the ping drops and this can include item duping, characters duping, and at the same time losing items and character traits were common as well. Although it was funny at times, it soon got tiresome as it would mean we had to play differently. The dwarf's AI would idle a lot and have pathing issues throughout most of your game time.
Hope you fix them. Thanks

There's no apparent plot or end goal besides unlocking all the crafting recipes, which is fairly enjoyable, but not enough to motivate me to continue playing with the incompetent AI. I'd love to give this a thumbs-up if and when there are AI improvements, but as it stands the AI ruins an otherwise pretty solid game.
