The base game offers two factions: the United States Army and the Global Revolutionary Movement. Fight in rural areas, factories, railway stations or in towns and use the environment to your advantage. Cover is everywhere, and almost everything can be destroyed. An unseen amount of challenges are awaiting you in exciting online combat supported by Steamworks!

Jeder dem die Man of War oder Company of Heros Reihe gefällt, wird dieses Spiel mit Sicherheit gefallen.
Das Spiel hat eine umfangreiche Kampagne mehrerer Fraktionen, alle mit unterschiedlichen Fahrzeugen. Mir gefällt, dass ich die Kampagne auch im Coop mit meinen Freunden spielen kann.
Sehr viel Spaß habe ich mit der Direktsteuerung, welche es ermöglicht jeden Soldaten und jedes Fahrzeug selbst zu steuern.
Einen Wunsch hätte ich jedoch für das Spiel. Die Möglichkeit bestimmte Waffen zu deaktivieren. Wenn ich Feuerunterstützung von einem Stryker brauche würde ich gerne die Hauptwaffe deaktivieren können und der Stryker benutzt weiter das MG.

Schwierig am Anfang aber toll umgesetzt. Fahrzeuge kann man Bemannen, auch die des Feindes.
Soldaten können sich heilen, reparieren, Sprengsätze zünden, Bazookas abfeuern. Vom Feind geklaut oder auf einem Laster gefunden.. deine Soldaten können Items aufheben und mitschleppen/benutzen. Je nach Situation kann eben mal schnell in die Egoshooter-Perspektive gewechselt werden. Dadurch erzielt man bessere Ergebnisse in Tank vs Tank oder auch Häuserkampf Scharmützel. Man kann durch gute Positionierung so einiges aus den Einheiten rausholen.
Save-Game ist dein Freund.
Musik passt auch :)

Die Idee und auch die grafische Umsetzung sind grandios.
Leider wollte ich Bundeswehr-Skin spielen und das Basic-Game sagte mir ich brauche dafür einen DLC. Diesen dann gekauft und siehe da, ich kann die Bundeswehr immer noch nicht auswählen :(
Ingame, Spielphysik usw. kann ich nach solch kurzer Spieldauer absolut nichts sagen.
Mir fehlt auch irgendwo/irgendwie ein Prolog oder eine Art ...naja wo man eben das SPiel beigebracht bekommt.
Von mir keine Empfehlung da es mir für die kurze Spieldauer einfach zu teuer erscheint.... schade.

Jeder Soldat und jedes Fahrzeug haben ihr eigenes Inventar
Man kann sie auch selber spielen
Wenn man mit Nebel spielt ist es realistisch, wann man die Einheiten sieht, bis auf paar Ausnahmen
Negativ
Einheiten verbuggen manchmal noch beim aussteigen
Panzer verbuggen auch manchmal. Ist aber Sehr selten darum finde ich das Spiel positiv

nach 93 stunden spielzeit kann ich es nur empfehlen. Besonderst der Direct Steuerung´s modus gefällt mir gut hierdurch ergeben sich ganz neue Möglichkeiten.

Als das Bundeswehr DLC raus kam war ich echt sehr überrascht und ich muss sagen es macht auch in dem Modus Eroberung sehr viel Spaß.
Aber als dann die Kampagne raus kam also ich war sowas von enttäuscht. Diese Kampagne ist sowas von lieblos gemacht worden sowas gibt es einfach nicht. Kein Deutscher untertitel und da wird auch nicht mehr gesprochen. Also die Deutsche Kampagne ist auf alle fälle eine Sauerei und deswegen habe ich auch nicht einmal die erste Mission fertig gespielt.
Was auch ziemlich nervt ist das wenn ein Update kommt dein Spielstand vom EM kein Update bekommt und man deswegen immer von neuem anfangen kann was einem schon so richtig auf die Nerven gehen kann.
Aber es wird immer was daran gemacht zum beispiel wurde der EM jetzt noch einmal komplett überarbeitet und man muss entweder die befestigten Stellungen der Feindes oder seine eigenen ( wo es 3 Stufen gibt vom ausbau her ) verteidigen.
Es kam jetzt auch der Leopard A7 dazu was ich doch sehr gefeiert habe und ich bin gespannt was noch alles kommt.
Also so ein sich ein echt geiles Spiel was doch sehr Spaß macht aber was die Missionen angeht da war Men of War auf alle fälle besser. Aber mal gucken was das 2WK DLC noch so bringt.
Wenn es einen Neutral Daumen gäbe würde ich diesen wählen

Es fordert den Spieler zum taktischen Einsatz und die richtige Wahl von seinen Einheiten.
Ein guter Plan und die richtige Vorgehensweise sind unabdingbar und notwendig um den Sieg davon zu tragen. Ich kann das Spiel, mit gutem Gewissen, dem Empfehlen der Ego Shooter sowie Strategie Spiele gerne spielt!

Countless times this happens and it makes it where you are forced to completely micromanage every interaction that a unit has instead of them acting like normal milsim AI and doing what they need to do. It sucks because this is an awesome concept just very poorly executed. Also everything is behind a level or paywall which makes the game even worse. Idk how people can put 20+ hours on this game. It was so stressful and aggravating to even put 7...

Its very hard to describe what this game is like as I havent really played anything like it, however it has some real fuking potential, I imagine the online battles are WILD.
Let me sum it up, war game, with lots of specialised units that all have their own vital roles to play, and you can go into fps as one of your chosen units.
So awesome to set up an ambush then take control of your RPG to make sure you get the right shot on the enemy vehicle etc.
Again I honestly struggle to think what this game is like, but I guess I would say its kinda like a really in detail realistic version of COH, with alot more choices and you can go FPS to control a select unit to change the way the battle is going.
Well worth the money if you like war games and want something different to try.

A hybrid betweeen FPS/TPS/Isometric, the missions are challenging and require you to really put yourself into it
Played once on PFVP and got destroyed the skill gap between veterans and newcomers is abyssmal and unfair at points
Some animation, sound, FOV, and movement improvement could benefit the game in many ways.
Its a game that really should be played because it really deserves it
Not gonna lie the game has its flaws and some bugs but beyond those things its a game that has potential
Even more with modding support i hope to see much more of this game in the future.

Great game when you're not experiencing constant crashes due to the ancient game engine.
Im surprised another developer hasnt taken the gameplay formula and paired it with a modern engine, the playerbase of this series would jump at the chance to have a similar experience without the constant issues.
I dont know what the group of developers that have been milking this engine for years have done with the profits after all this time, but its clearly not getting put back into making a better experience for consumers.

There is one thing that surprise me is the fact that UAF doesn't have a campaign when Germany is a beta faction with one, which I think that it could be interesting because we would have a campaign with a level between USA and GRM that would be challenging because like GRM, UAF would have to gain back popular support that it lost during the war.
This game is not fully developped but it is already very good and I hope to see this game to become even better and that more factions come in the future even fictional like for example an south american coalition or something else. But I also hope to see some weapons come for infantry like MANPAD launchers with of course a team adapted to those launchers.

It hurts my brain to play this game, but the amount of laughs I get from the wonkiness of this PRODUCT is worth any money. You should only play this thing at the lowest graphical settings to remember this game still uses an almost 20 years old engine.
...for real, though. This game is just Men of War with modern equipment and a funny first person mode that makes you feel like you're playing a bad FPS with half an XBOX controller that is also about to run out of battery. Even the bugs are the same as in original MoWs. But hey, we have loot boxes now!

The major deal breaker for me is the fact that direct control now has a fucking energy bar which limits the time you can directly control a unit. Really? DC is there for a fucking reason and now they limited the time in which you gain full control of a unit? This is the stupidest shit I've ever seen in my entire RTS career and it'd be an utter disaster if the DC bar runs out at the most critical moment. Don't even try to refute my argument by saying that it's for THE SAKE OF BALANCE, it's just plain stupid and frustrating, nothing more. Also the leveling system which allows you to access more units as you level up is another pain the the ass that prevents you from enjoying the game. It's just another lame way to force you to spend more time on this game, jack up the total play time until you can't refund and are stuck with it forever, which isn't worth it at all considering how shitty this game is on the whole. Moreover, the vehicle armor system from MoW isn't completely implemented here, I really hate how they always wanna use health points to represent the durability of the vehicle's armor rather than penetration chances based on the weapon's caliber, muzzle velocity, type of ammunition, angle of impact, the thickness of vehicle's armor etc etc, the armor health points just killed the overall realism even more. Perhaps I was asking for too much, but everything I mentioned above is pretty much why the game failed to attract most if not all old MoW players.
I won't cover the AI part since other reviewers already did a pretty great job at describing how retarded the AI controlled units are. This is why we need constant direct control over certain units so that they don't do anything stupid for Christ's sake.
This is another ugly example of a crappy cash-grabbing game that's rampant in the video game industry nowadays, yeah yeah I know the game looks pretty damn nice and cool on the store page and to be frank that's what made me wanna give it a shot, but you'll soon realize it's just a sugar coating that tries to cover the terrible aspects of this game after the first few hours or minutes. It's disappointing to see that this whole RTS series went straight downhill after they released the Cold War DLC for MoW 2.

I got the ultimate edition, all 4 campaigns, bugged up the ass for co-op.
1. At times Invisible enemies, can't target, can't shoot, can't fight back.
2. Frequent crashes to desktop with varied error messages with little to no fixes from google, youtube etc.
3. Units frequently glitch up as well. E.g units cannot heal, repair, move, exit vehicle.

But the main problem is that the game doesn't give you the tools you need to effectively accomplish your objectives, and the AI isn't anywhere near smart enough to fill in the gaps.
Here's an illustrative example: on one mission you have two AFVs to support your infantry. They're pretty crucial because at the end of the mission two enemy AFVs spawn and you need some anti-armour capability to deal with them. However, your AFVs have limited 105mm ammo, and there's *no way to tell them to conserve it*. That means that the AI will fire all of its ammo on soft targets like single infantrymen, and by the time the enemy AFVs spawn, you've got nothing to fire at them. The only solution to this is to either keep your AFVs out of the fight until the end (which makes no sense) or cheat to get unlimited ammo.
This is an unforgivable sin for a wargame. If the game is going to require very precise co-ordination of your troops, you need to have fine control over their actions. You simply don't in this game, and it often makes it borderline unplayable.

The FPS/TPS element was also well thought-out and played like a full-priced early 2000s shooter akin to Rainbow 6 (before it got ruined with Hide and Siege) I love how CtA is very playable solo within modern and WW2 eras. Cuts the bullshit and goes right to what we are here for; big battles with lots of cool explosions, accurately-modeled units and differently-playing factions. All this looks and sounds beautiful too.
A blast from the past; back when gaming was good and not full of anime PG gacha boring-royale idiocy. We NEED more modern military games. (WW2 ones as well)
My only gripe, albeit a very minor one is the UI; it looks like a mobile game from 2010; tacky and tasteless.

You get the feeling that the developers of 'Call to Arms' didn't know what game they wanted to make. Much of the military hardware in the game is well realised with simulation precision - the tank suspensions articulate perfectly, the ballistics are convincing. Sound is very good. Its as if they had intended the game ultimately for a simulation market, like a Graviteam Tactics game. But the campaign is pure arcade piffle, and the gameplay mechanics are shocking. We're talking health bars for tanks and infantry that magically heal over time; 30 second repairs on a tank with a broken track; limitless ammo for troops. Its as if the ultra realism of Graviteam 'Tank Warfare' and 'Mius Front' never existed. No morale effects. The developers of 'Combat Mission' certainly aren't going to lose any sleep over this turd.
In one mission you play as a person in a crashed Black Hawk helicopter, Somalia style. In real life, the guy in the helicopter broke his pelvis and was barely able to walk. He passed out and was taken captive after the team sent to protect him was killed. In the campaign in this game the guy kills hundreds single-handedly, blows up a convoy and goes full-Rambo. Its the worse kind of nonsense, and the mission is unskippable. And just when you think the game has hit rock-bottom, it expects you to play the mission in first person. In a strategy game!
Lets not even talk about the embarrassment that is first person mode. Its truly shocking. It feels like a 90s shooter, but without the fun. Graphics and gameplay would be well below par if the game was released 10 years ago. And - just why? I mean really, who thought this would be a good idea? Who the Hell thought playing as Rambo in a strategy game would be anything other than absurd?
The bad news is that the much better WWII 'Gates of Hell - Ostfront' game in this series remedies some of the worst of these failings, but the catch is you have to buy this crock of shit to play it.
Look, I don't hate this game. It can be fun, and watching the hyper-real tank suspension is a joy (though turning the vehicle is all wrong, so its not a true simulation). but bear in mind that whatever kind of a game you like, this will absolutely not be the game you want. By trying to be all things to all people it ends up being frustrating nonsense to everyone.
If you want to play the better quality 'Gates of Hell' game in the series there's some good news and some bad news. The bad news is if you want to play 'Gates of Hell' you will have to buy 'Call to Arms'. The good news is you don't have to install 'Call to Arms' to play 'Gates of Hell'. So be thankful for small mercies.

Any mistake - and trust me, your AI soldiers don't make anything easier on you - is immediately punished by a full squad wipe. Or your own armored vehicle being wiped from the map far too fast for any reasonable human being to actually reverse said vehicle back into cover.
I stopped trying after losing two Marder IFV's because they fired and missed on an enemy BMP with their TOW missiles, then were wiped out by said BMP's belt fed cannon and belt fed grenade launcher.

GOOD:
Units and landscape visuals
Day and night maps
Vast selection of units to bring into battle
Destructible environments
Each unit has equipment and can retrieve weapons etc from fallen soldiers or vehicles if stored
BAD:
Infantry animation can sometimes look a bit rigid
Path finding can occasionally be an issue
Vehicle health bars (This isn't an issue if playing with realism enabled)
Helicopters are very strange to fly and only seem to remain static for the AI from what I've seen
Deluxe/Ultimate edition appear a bit pricey (Will buy on sale)
What I would like to see:
FOV slider & some settings to adjust similar to and other FPS
An animation for raising and lowering your weapon instead of the instant snap up and down
Better soldier animations
More maps to select in certain game modes
Overall its a great game and well worth the £13 asking price.

The ability to directly control, up to and including first person mode in an RTS is a really awesome thing. The only other thing I think that comes close to it, but the other way around - from FPS to RTS - is certain mission modes in ArmA. Even for a hardcore realism fan like me this game is very enjoyable, and I think this comes from the mostly non-linear design of missions and maps, the destructible environment - which really adds to the immersion, especially when in first person, and just the combination of all these things that really give you the feeling of getting 'stuck in there' when switching to first person mode in one of your squads in a building that's under heavy fire. I truly think this game could set a standard for future RTS/FPS games to come and I hope we will see more merging of this two genres. to the great benefit of both.

As I've played Call To Arms I've seen the vehicles added in, the infantry models vastly improved, now the Direct Control mode feels like a true first-person shooter, so many strides have been made.
Where to improve would be first off the infantry animation and AI. The infantry still feel like rigid stick figures sometimes, not very organic or immersive because of it. As well the AI can be really silly sometimes.
Secondly, the helicopters seem very silly and unnatural, I hope these will be improved upon vastly, the AI just sits still and fires at you, and fighting them is very weird, sometimes it takes one tank hit, sometimes 7. The flak guns should do more to damage them as they would in real life.
That's all I really have to say in regards to improvement, otherwise great game, I hope it sells more in the future so we can get more Call To Arms games!

Cons:
* No one playes multiplayer.
* Hitbox on vehicles are broken.
* Conquest is only doable if you play with a friend, the AI have unlimited spawn when defending.
* Pathing on vehicles are non existent.
Pro:
* Cool factions with nice variety.
* Skin are high quality.
* Multiplayer can be very fun (If you ever get a game)

The additional Conquest mode is a neat take on Assault Squad gameplay with a meta-layer that helps give meaning to seemingly random skirmishes. At the moment of writing, a new revision of it is coming so it's likely to be an even better experience soon. The game is not as polished as older titles but it does bring more new elements than any of the previous Men of war games did since the original one. Check it out, you might like it.

first person movement seems slow and clunky.

I will get this straight to point, this game feels like unfinished and lacking of polish. Obviously the game looks new from the outside but if you are already playing MOW games you will understand why this really annoying not to mention the same sound that was used in older MOW games like 10 years ago.
Armor mechanics is also overhauled, just like the other guy said that the ERA blocks are displays and didn't really do much but just to look like a cosmetic than a functional features.
A modern war mod from MoWas that I played have features such as functioning ERA, locking missiles, helicopter and tanks use flares when countering, realistic penetration and other features that real tanks have. The mod was 10x better than this game has to offer and that was just a mod, this is a company we're talking about.
Suffice to say, this game needs a lot of new features than adding new stuff to it. The engine is already beautiful with new shaders and particle fx.

This is a game that by all rights should be much better rated.
So why the thumbs down, you ask
Well, the quality of the game is at present less full release and more early access. There are issues in this game that would be egregious even in Early Access; and the fact is that this is being sold as a full game. The simple fact is that while there is indeed a diamond of a game underneath it all, there seems to have been no polish applied to it.
The most egregious examples of this lack of polish are the infantry animations and weapons; the infantry in the game don't so much walk and run as they shuffle along, with the run and sprint animations being either a faster shuffling animation or outright copied and pasted from their previous Men of War titles.
While the weapons themselves have a decent amount of variety, the optics just scream copied and pasted; with everyone handed the same 2 optics regardless of who they are, or what the optic looks like on the outside. So, you'll notice Russians all using american holographic sights on their weapons, while German weapons transform their red dots into holographic sights the second the player actually aims using them.
Add to this the armour system being a downgrade from mods for Men of War; turning applied armour and ERA into window dressing that seemingly has no effect or impact on the vehicle's performance; something that was already done by mods for the previous game.
These are just some of the more egregious points which display the sad lack of polish within the game, but they are by no means the only points. With the game being in the state that it is, and with the developers seemingly silent or ignoring these issues; I can not recommend that anyone buy the game in its present state.
That said, I have some hope that the developers may turn this around (and not effectively abandon it like their Cold War era game) and give this game the polish that it so desperately needs. If that it ever done, I would change this review in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone looking for a better and more realistic game with a focus on tactics rather than resource management.

it seems to have been an intentional 'bug' due to the now very long combat distances and similarly sized maps.
the games missions are like those of MoWAS2 and never particularly fun to play through. They don't even get close to the detailed and interesting missions of MoW.

AI is insanely difficult having precise and focused shots even on Easy mode - whereas your AI is about as smart as a bag of rocks and rarely shoot the enemy unless you actually go into first person mode.
Example: you move your AI into position, but they're only taking potshots while the enemy AI is raining hellfire. You go into first person mode and wipe out a few squads until the AI notices and every unit on the map rocks you.
If the AI wasn't Rambo it'd be a lot of fun. Really well made game, greatly improved from Men of War.

CONS:
-AI gets SUBSTANTIALLY more units than you to account for it being more A than I
-AI used to be helicopter fodder; now they engage from miles away with pinpoint accuracy and will one shot out of spawn
-Hydras are borderline useless on anything but cars and personnel. Seriously. Sent all of them into the side of a bmp and nothing happened
-Only 2 playable conquest nations and only 4 for MP/Skirmish; the rest are behind a paywall
-AI AT Troops are pinpoint accurate and will decimate armored vehicles in one hit
-Tank Combat is both challenging and a chore due to the armor pen physics and how you have to hit precise little spots frontally which leads to just volley after volley of 2 detracked tanks
There is probably more for both categories I have missed but to sum it all up it is a fairly decent game with quirks that can be make or break for a lot of people. I would recommend playing it if you liked MoW:AS2 or want a new RTS that is a fresh take on the genre.

You want modern units? Get MOWAS2 and install the Red Rising mod that has been dead for over a year but still has 10-30x the units and vehicles CTA can offer.
You want destructible environments? Get MOWAS2. It becomes a lot harder to justify graphics from 2005 when your little shed can tank 120mm rounds. Especially when the game you made 6 YEARS AGO already had this feature!!
You want mods like Zombies, Aliens, Trump's Wall, Star Wars? Get MOWAS2. CTA has almost no mods in comparison and the ones it does have are mostly ports from...you guessed it, MOWAS2!!
You want large battles? get MOWAS2.
I managed to port what I wanted to CTA from MOWAS2 after 15+ hours of frustration and bugfixes. I did the work the devs should have done in the first place and I still paid for this game.
If you are handy with mods and are ready to spend a lot of time with 3 file explorer tabs and 5+ winrar tabs open before you even start to see functioning content, get this game but keep in mind most if not all of what you manage to make work will only be useable in the editor. I did this and spent a lot of time doing their job for them and now I have a cobbled-together frankengame that is starting to look like the MOWAS3 we will never get. It was worth it in the end but holy f*** how I wish they would have just done it like this in the first place.

The game concept is fantastic and when it works can even surpass the enjoyment of playing Men of War AS2, one of my all time favourite RTS games. However, the game is just plagued with bugs that break all immersion and sap every last bit of fun from the game. At first you make do. You ignore it. You pretend they're not there but when you buy three copies of the ultimate edition so you and your friends can relive the good old days you remember that is not good enough.
We've all stopped playing because the developers wont take the time to stop and fix the fact that units can't finish an animation without becoming what is essentially a T-posing wast of your resources. The community are making some exceptional additions to the game to keep us all playing. I beg you please go on a bug hunt and fix your game so your community can actually enjoy it and we can all leave you gleaming reviews for what is an exceptional game when it works!
TLDR: Incredible game. Waste of money until the bugs are fixed.

but the developers decided to cut additional contents and sell it again than actually adding these contents free for people who already bought and support the developers at much expensive price and during early access.
come on I already bought a burger and you want me to buy the buns or the meats again? really?? while others can get full deluxe burger at a cheaper price? felt so sad for buying and support the developers.

Overall it's a MoW2 but with somewhat better textures and an additional FPS gameplay included but it was still too clunky so it's decent but not good. the campaign was fun but still feels like it wasn't polish enough, it could've been better.
the game is nice recommend getting it if you like to mess around with AIs in skirmish maps.
7/10 It's a fun and cheap game but for people who bought it during early access and don't get any additional contents despite being an early supporter? I wanna slap the marketing team of this game so hard that they could be flying to the sun.

- Graphics Suck
- Game has more Bugs than Starship Troopers
- Awful business model (Pay 2 play - to Free to Play - back to Pay 2 Play, now with a Season Pass?)
- Game's not finished, (Troops will die to nothing, Tanks implode if they touch certain items like rocks barrels etc) You'll lose units to Ghosts..
- Multiplayer has pay to win Elements (Seriously who thought it was fair to add 'levels' to each faction which means you cannot call in the Good units unless you either A - PAY or B - GRIND)...
- Have to pay to play the story. (And its terrible anyway)
- Faction imbalance.
- Troops either sponge 100 rounds, or Die to gust of wind, its seems to be luck.
- AI wont actually improve on higher difficulty just cheat.
- Overpriced.
- Zero QA went into this (One level the AI simple run to the centre of the Map without shooting?)
- Snipers are not 1 shot kill.

Other problems I’ve encountered:
The AI is incredibly dumb and use cheats to compensate
Units rarely fire while prone
Units take nonsensical cover positions when good cover is what you're clicking on
Units forget they're in cover once you exit direct control even if you didn't move them
Units often won't fire at enemies at short range without micro
Group icons often disappear when one man goes down
AT infantry have a terribly short range and are only effective when directly controlled
AI vehicles can hit targets at much longer ranges than the player's vehicles
AI vehicles can fire at targets through thick bushes and total concealment while the player's cannot
