State of the art-Technik ohne passendem Unterbau

Yes, it's short. You can finish the game in it's current state in less than an hour, but this hour is totally worth it. I played it twice (currently in third run) and am still enjoying every bit of this game.
Bright Memory left early access four days ago. The game is still not complete, but every buyer will receive the additional content for free once it's released.
Due to it's shortness, the game feels more like a demo than a game but I think once the additions are available we can call it a game.
Bright Memory feels like a mixture of Doom and Dark Souls with a shot of Tomb Raider. Gun fights are mixed with sword play and the most outstanding achievement of this game is it's engaging combat. The different ways you can attack, use special attacks like EMP, sword blast or time freezing in combination with intensively fast dodging is huge fun. Bright Memory nails combat in a fantastic way.
The games story is a mixture of Science Fiction and Fantasy but doesn't really matter, at least not in the games current state. You learn a hundred times more about the story by reading the Steam shop page, than you do in the game.
Your hero is a teenage Japanese schoolgirl and the game adds the typical skirt and blouse combination as extra skin if you like.
Graphics are decent, although could be better and the Unreal 4 engine does a good job. However, the game allows you to play in DX11 and DX12 more. While Bright Memory runs great in DX11 mode, DX12 produced a lot of graphical artefacts and caused lighting problems.
The game seems a little buggy. Enemies get caught in the environment from time to time, but seldom. The game crashed once.
Considering the fact that this game was developed by a single person, the result is fantastic and I personally believe this should be supported. Who knows, if we help this boy, maybe in a couple of years he'll surprise us with a game we've all been waiting for.
Pros:
- fantastic combat
- great boss fights
- great enemy design
- good graphics (not outstanding but OK)
- good music
- inexpensive
Cons:
- short
- a little buggy
- simple level design
- grappling handling needs to be improved

I'd say this is an impressive offering. A single developer, great visuals, a ton of style and a pretty bold take on the genre of FPS games. To me, it feels like Devil May Cry crossed with an FPS game. It works well and it's fun. This version of the game is also certainly a lot more tactical and slower with how it works, which fits you depending on what you're into. For me, I don't like this take as much as the faster-paced Infinite, but it was fun regardless.
This game's the definition of quality over quantity and as a person who has other stuff to do and more than 1 game to play, I appreciate a game that gives me the highlights of the experience. A total banger overall and I recommend this even at full price, which for my stickler habits is quite unique.

Yes, it is. This could easily be a train wreck, but somehow most of these genres combined deliver a fun experience, no doubt thanks to the short length. Bright Memory is a first person shooter at heart, and during the game you’ll be shooting almost always, mixing it up with different techniques and skills.
The game drops you right into the action, letting you take out a few human enemies. And quickly after that scene it becomes more supernatural, with monsters and animals all getting into the mix. Then comes the first puzzle, and the first collectibles and the game starts to feel a bit like Tomb Raider, but naturally shown in first person view. Eventually it tries a bit of horror, unsuccessfully though, and the game quickly and fortunately drops that aspect. And then it’s back to shooting, hacking and slashing, unleashing powers, finding collectibles, swinging around and puzzle solving. All in a matter of minutes. It’s fascinating and every time you think the whole thing is going to crash and burn, it switches up the gameplay to keep it just fresh enough for just a few minutes more. There’s even a Dark Souls reference in it, something I didn’t see coming at all. And then it ultimately ends, after around 30 minutes.
Every now and then some physical obstacles have to be cleared, which can be done by using your skills. Your default skills are an EMP which blasts enemies into the air, in some form of stasis, a blade that has different moves, a grapple hook - for both environments and flinging yourself into enemies – and dodging. You’ll be using these skills a lot. Enemies aren’t dead with just a headshot; it sometimes takes a while before they are defeated. So switching up shooting with skills makes this easier and it stops you from being killed. And yes, you might die, even if it is short.
Enemies drop both ammo and experience – not all though – and that experience can be used to level up your character Shelia. These unlockable skills consist of taking less damage, or using new skills like lightning, time freeze or a force field that deals area-of-effect (AOE) damage. It’s a way to keep things more fresh and varied and I appreciated that, especially during my second playthrough where you do the exact same things. It’s nice to be able to use some other skills then.
During combat you’ll also be rated. Dealing damage increase the meter with SSS being the best rank. Yes, think Devil May Cry here, but more limited. The meter will decrease once you stop dealing damage and taking damage doesn’t seem to affect this meter at all. Except for showing off I don’t think it does much else or even adds anything to the game really.
The world consists of nature, caves and some temple ruins and not much more than that. Despite that limited variety (or plenty, depending on how you look at it) it never gives off the feeling there isn’t enough. There are some open areas, but when you want to explore you’ll walk into invisible walls and fall/jump to your death. It’s a simple way to keep things linear, but it’s also confusing as you’re also supposed to search for collectibles. I fell to my death at least once thinking I could go there when in reality I couldn’t. That’s poor design. Either get rid of the invisible walls, or the collectibles, or just mention that collectibles can be found without going out of your way to find them.
At the end of the episode (it’s called an episode) you’ll be rated by deaths, damage and time. It doesn’t add anything except for, again, showing off your skills. After the episode you can play through it again with New Game+. In case it isn’t clear; an episode is the entire game.
I didn’t think the enemies were harder the second time, and nothing story-wise seemed to have changed either, but you can use your other skills since you’ll quickly have enough experience to unlock them all. You can even finish the game a third game, but after the second one I had my fill.
Also because the second time the game seemed to have more issues, even though it plays out exactly the same. I had an area in the beginning where I couldn’t progress because the fire didn’t go out as it should’ve. Maybe it was a bug or an enemy didn’t spawn or get stuck in the environment, but reloading the checkpoint seemed to fix the issue. And near the end, after defeating the very last boss, the game froze on me for at least 30 seconds, making me thing it had crashed as the game didn’t respond to any of my button presses. Fortunately, it did continue, but I seemed to have been stuck in super slow motion.
Graphically the game is pretty, but it looks like a game that was created with free assets. Highly detailed assets, mind you, but assets nevertheless. Despite coming across that way the game does manage to feel like one whole. There’s rarely anything that feels off. The lighting is pretty good, as are the models and textures. The interface is a bit crowded with UI elements circling around the crosshair and multiple icons in the lower left corner. And the menu also feels a bit simplistic, but it gets the job done.
I also experienced some heavy framedrops during my two playthroughs. The game runs at a high framerate, but shifts in scenes together with the quick action caused multiple slowdowns. Unnecessary, but fortunately it’s still very, very playable.
The voice acting is actually pretty good. I didn’t expect that. Same goes for the sound effects and the music which consists of several genres.
Bright Memory is a game that should’ve been a train wreck, but ultimately - because of its short length – is actually quite fun, mixing different kinds of action and game elements together. I think most of us will have seen all the game has to offer after playing through it two times, so I’m not sure if one hour of gameplay is enough for the price you’re paying for it, but if you have the money to spare then yes, I would recommend it. Plus, buying this game also gives you the upcoming and bigger sized sequel, Bright Memory Infinite, for free. That should be a good incentive, at least; if this sounds like your jam.

The game is really good, like REALLY fucking good. It is very clear that the developers have put a lot of time into this game. The graphics look fantastic, especially when you consider that this game was made by an indie developer with presumably very little budget. The combat feels really fluid as dash and dodge enemies while also dealing damage yourself (complete with a combo meter similar to Devil May Cry.) Everything is just overall great. Not to mention, if you are concerned about not getting enough game for what you are paying, when the full game comes out everyone who owns Bright Memory will get the full complete game (titled Bright Memory: Infinite) So yeah, I think it is worth the price. I look forward to the full release so I can play as Shelia more, the Lara Croft, Tracer, combination that she is.

Littering the ground with bullet casings and the corpses of your enemies rarely feels this good. Bright Memory is one of those titles that does exactly what its name says and remains a bright memory not soon to be forgotten. As a first person shooter, this game wildly succeeds producing a fantastic gameplay experience that left me only wanting more and more.
From guns to blades to energy, you have quite the arsenal of weapons and techniques to obliterate your foes in a very stylish manner with, which works out spectacularly with the combo system that's so wonderfully implemented. Rarely, do I ever see combo systems of the likes of character action titles built into first person shooters, but my goodness does it work here. Busting caps up to an SSS rank is so satisfying.
Stylish outcome is not only the effect of a wonderful combat system, but the game is absolutely gorgeous. It really does help with getting sucked into the hectic chaos that is combat in Bright Memory when it looks this great. Sparks, water, blood and metal all come together in a mesh of fantastically rendered bliss that will woe any mayhem junky.
I feel that this is a great title for just about anyone. The complexity of the combat is really something to with and enjoy, so despite this game not being super long, it is still something you could come back to time and time again and still enjoy.

And ammo pickups... WTF are they?

I came across this game when I saw my friend playing it and the Crisis like HUD immediately caught my interest. I also looked at the game-play videos and how it's sort of this combination of fast-paced action with swords and power-ups and classic shooter and I was already sold.
My friend gifted me this game and I am definitely thankful to him for doing so. Bright Memory, simply put is a sequence of mindless fun which is like Call of Duty in the intensity of it's thrilling experience, reminiscent of Devil May Cry in it's enemies, wave spawns, boss fights, game mechanics, and difficulty, resembling Crisis in it's power-ups, and quite-alike Tomb Raider in it's exploration and puzzle sections. Overall, this game is bags of fun with shooting, chaining combos, and just going around solving puzzles.
The game is quite linear and very fun to play. Even the soundtrack is quite amazing and so are the graphics. However, there is only one problem: the game is short. The entire game can be finished in a matter of an hour flat if you're not facing too many difficulties. In fact, the developer also put in a Continue+ option at the end of Episode 1 (the only episode in the game) after which you can choose to continue with the power-ups you already have acquired and there are two achievements for clearing the game using the Continue+ mode twice and thrice.
Overall, I'd still recommend this game especially now since Bright Memory: Infinite is to come out soon and if you purchase Bright Memory before BM: Infinite comes out, you'll get the latter for free. I personally find the price-point okayish. It's a little steepish for just one hour of gameplay when not on sale and potentially too less for the rest of the episodes (if they do come out).

Both admirable and underwhelming project…
Several people told me that I should give Bright Memory a try; for good reasons, I suppose. I mean, I love first-person shooters, so it seemed right up my alley. When I started playing it, I was honestly pleasantly surprised, as it visually looks stunningly for a project made by a lone developer. Not only graphics are staggering, but some of the animations, as well as cutscenes and effects, are of good quality, too. After a short beautiful cutscene, I finally got into the action, and I was amazed. Shooting at several soldiers, seeing how their protection glass on their masks breaks, and bits of blood squirt out of it looked great, making headshots satisfying. Then I got my hands on an EMP blast, which both pushes enemies in the air or even literally tuns them into a pool of blood. Sure, I have witnessed such an ability in other titles numerous times already, but it still feels thrilling when done right, especially when accompanied by a blood-pumping soundtrack. Thus, I thought I would love this from start to finish.

However, my enthusiasm for it went down after these first five enjoyable minutes, as then the game turns into a weird mishmash. It throws you into a fantasy setting with mythological monsters, which would not be a problem per se, as there are several shooters like that; yet, fighting them is monotonous, and there is no challenge in it whatsoever. I am not saying that to pump up my ego, so let me elaborate on it. When you fight with the abovementioned soldiers, they have the same weaponry and eve abilities like dash, so they are pretty agile and dangerous, especially in ranged combat. That is not the case with monsters, though. For example, the most common enemies are undead soldiers with a sword. As you can use a double jump, dash or even time-freeze capsule along with your shotgun — they do not stand a chance against you at all. Sure, there are tries to spice up these encounters by adding stronger foes, like monstrous lions who spits fire, but you can still put them down quickly, and there is not enough of them. Simply put, adding more enemy types, even the already existing ones, in each fight would make it both more entertaining and challenging; I would love if they would counter some of my abilities, but that is something you will not find here.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2533556030
That is my main gripe with Bright Memory, and it is a shame because the gunplay and abilities themselves are both satisfying and fun to use. Shotgun happened to be my favourite gun, as its fire rate is influenced by how fast you are pressing the mouse buttons, which obliterates everyone in your way. Your sword, which you can only use for a few seconds, is deadly too, and its slashes go even through multiple enemies. Plus, you can use its strike down ability that uplifts and stucks your foes in the air. Again, all of that is enjoyable to use for a while, but it gets boring soon.
Bosses are a mixed bag. The first one is just another knight, behaving similarly to the ones with swords. It just has an uninspiring moveset and enormous amount of health. Yay. You can basically circle around it as with the other melee-based enemies without worrying much. To give credit where it is due, the second one was quite enjoyable; perhaps because of the arena, the fight takes in, as there are environmental traps, making it a bit harder.
I hoped that the New Game + mode would offer what I was looking for, but it was just another disappointment. Honestly, apart from the fact that you keep your obtained abilities, unlockable by experience points you get from killing enemies, I have not noticed any difference in the difficulty or enemy placement. If there even is any…
As expected, it is a strictly linear experience, so there are no possibilities in how to approach each encounter. I do not mind that; however, as it focuses on the action, I thought it would be much better, which is sadly not the case here. There are also a few primitive puzzles between the combat sections, and while I appreciate their presence, I would gladly omit their existence in exchange for more captivating combat.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2533552277
Where Bright Memory suffers the most is with its narrative. It is a bland, chaotic mess, which absolutely fails at being a competent introduction to this universe. Hell, even this title’s Steam Store page says more about its story and lore than the game itself. Atrocious. I do not mind when story-telling is a bit vague, so it would let me find bits of it in its world, but this is not the case. The premise is fine: you are a member of the special unit, trying to get an ancient artefact before baddies do so. What I have a problem with, as I said, is the presentation. Also, so-called plot armour is present throughout the cutscenes, mainly in the second half of the game — it just looks incredibly dumb when the protagonist survives a grenade a few centimetres away from her. Oh, and what I truly despise is when you have special abilities during cutscenes, invisibility in this case, yet you cannot use it.
At its current state, I cannot recommend getting Bright Memory. Yes, it is remarkable what this solo developer achieved; however, I had fun with it only for five minutes or so, fifteen if I count in New Game + playthroughs for achievements. Keep in mind that one run is about half an hour long. That is not enough for me for its price, though. Especially as this experience is not unique, so there are plenty of other titles to choose from. And no, the fact that I will get the “full” game, Bright Memory: Infinite, because I own this “demo” is not relevant for me to change my mind and recommend it, as that would mean I would be promoting an unreleased product. A product of which we know next to nothing apart from marketing trailers. Well, if this mishmash of a prologue is supposed to show me how it will all look like in the end, then I am sceptical about how it will turn out. Nevertheless, I will gladly give it a chance.
PC Specs and Performance
I played it with an i5 8300H, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB RAM, at highest settings, at stable 50-60 frames per second, at 1920x1080 resolution.
For a single man working on this game, it's truly impressing, all my respect.
The gameplay is EXTREMELY fun, simple , got a few flaws here and there but it's truly amazing.
It is hard to believe that this graphics were made by one man, i mean it really is, the character desing is almost flawless although the world design is quite poor and simple.
The story isn't really much and the entire game takes at most 1h to complete so nothing here now.
PS: Still waiting for infinite

The price wasn't too high, and it looked interesting, so I thought: why not give it a go?
My, what a good decision that was.
This game is fairly like the critically acclaimed Titanfall, except I fell like the gameplay is fairly good except for some small bugs here and there. Also, the fact that it has a close range electric sword is EPIC.
Get this game if you can.
btw I saw that this game is getting a full sequel coming soon, definitely looking forward to that:)

There isn't too much to say about the story, as the game is so short, which in turn makes it hard to tell an amazing story.
It does it's purpose, to just give you an universe where your equipment will make more sense.
Also,
Bonfire Lit
is in the game.

Honestly at a 10$ price tag I'd expect a bit more content than is offered here, but the Gunplay and visual spectacle the game offers can't be denied. Not to mention being polished better than even some larger developers seem to be able to provide. Though all things considered, I'd rather recommend you go buy doom 2016 or doom eternal despite the higher price
BUT, if you pick this game up prior to bright memory infinite being released, you will get infinite for free. Taking that into consideration, I think this demo is worth the entry fee, even if you have to wait a bit to get the full experience
Can recommend for that reason

Yes, the game looks good. It is also fairly clunky, and extremely short. However, it does provide a decent amount of entertainment for the little bit that you pay for it.
To be very honest, if you're very concerned about getting bang for your buck, I would likely avoid this game. It is similar to contributing to a kickstarter, though getting a sample up front. Thinking about it in that way, I think this is totally worth the $8 I paid.

Gunplay feels good and the whole take it's pretty amazing.
This feels like a mixture between Dark Souls and...Horizon Zero Dawn in first person plus...Doom but in a light way...then add a schoolgirl outfit and you're all set!
Looks gorgeous, feels great, there's some light puzzles and a stupid snake jump scare.
There's a boss fight, I like the enemy variety and the world is very interesting.
Just give me 8 more hours of this and you got yourself a great game.

BRIGHT MEMORY
ONE DEVELOPER TO RULE THEM ALL
Bright memory is an early access fps action game. Episode 1 contains a small part of the game. When you first look at the game, it appears like an empty game that attracts people’s attention with beautiful graphics, but the game offers more than that.
Everyone knows that developing games is not an easy job. It requires a team and experts in different fields.
So how could a single person develop this game?

The ugly stuff
[olist]
This problem is very apparent in the NG+2 of the final boss fight, where you are locked a narrow arena, fighting a boss that have very high hp and can do very high damage, the statues on the wall are shooting fire at you, all of these are fine. Until the commons enemies are spawned directly behind you, attacked and blocked your character's movement, then the boss killed you. its very irritating when shit like this happened. The whole game was fun, except the last boss fight in NG+2. It's not hard, it's artificial difficulty.[/olist]

The Good:
- Earn points and ratings for stylistic killings and try to beat your previous best. It’s like I’m playing DMC, but not.
- The sword abilities.
- There are active and passive upgrades you can unlock and they are kept with NG+. They’ll let you blaze through the game even faster.
- You have a few abilities that help to mix up the combat a bit.
- Decent voice acting.
- Overall, the sound fx are nice, but the weapons don’t sound like they have a lot of punch (especially the shotgun).
The Neutral:
- Nothing really stands out with the soundtrack. It has your standard, action-y, I’m-killing-a-lot-of-things rock track; and an orchestrated we-gotta-go-because-something-bad-is-about-to-happen track.
- I can forgive the lack of weapon variety given how short the game is, but I’d expect the full game to have more than 1 assault rifle, 1 shotgun, and a pistol.
- Choose your waifu’s outfit.
The Bad:
- A lot of texture pop-in.
- The game ran well and I had no performance issues, but it sounded like my PC was crying.
- The puzzles aren’t very challenging.
Pro Tips:
- Spam the hell out of every ability and weapon..
- If you can’t progress, you’ve overlooked something; likely an area you didn’t know you could interact with.
The game is only $10 and you can 100% it within 2 hours. It appears to be more of an appetizer for what’s to come, which leads us to something that sweetens the deal: Bright Memory: Infinite will be free for everyone who owns Bright Memory. And like everyone says, it was (impressively) made by one guy.

Pros:
+ Doom/Souls/Bulletstorm style combat with a refreshed feeling
+ Graphics are stunning
+ a sprinkle of difficulty
+ story doesn't seem bad so far
Cons:
- Minor bugs (not an unexpected con but still gotta mention)
- Super short (for now)
- Leveling system is a itty bitty bit outdated but not terrible

Yes this is a tech demo. No, you are not paying for just a tech demo. YOU GET THE FULL GAME FOR FREE WHEN IT RELEASES.
The developer is living off the sales from this while he finishes the game. The full game will likely be $30-$60 when it releases (expected to be late 2020 or 2021). Buying this now is basically pre-purchasing the full game for less than $10, which is a complete steal. The tech demo is just a bonus.
Also, the tech demo is really really good and probably worth $10 on its own. Seriously, buy it already.

I was actually blown away by this game. The graphics in the background of the main menu looked amazing and I thought: no way I'm getting decent FPS with this. I set every graphical option to the highest possible, and to my surprise, I got over 100 FPS with my GeForce 960, and I simply couldn't believe what I saw.
The game starts off in a... strange way. It begins in an elevator with Shelia, the protagonist, running to cover as she is being shot. Not knowing why you're there or why bad guys are shooting you, you are able to shoot back with your pistol. Still a little overwhelmed by the graphics and the surprisingly smooth FPS I got, I satisfyingly defeated the bad guys. You enter a room and start hacking a computer when Carter shows up. I assume he is the main villain in the game, but I'm not sure though. He stops you and things get weird. Suddenly everyone in the room gets sucked up by something, and puts you outside. You see a beam of light in the distance that you need to investigate. Once again: you don't know why, or what, but you want to know.
I had a blast with the 40 minutes I've played. What I just summed up are the first 2-3 minutes of this game. It seems like a pretty standard FPS game, but it's not. When I got outside, I was picking up collectibles, shooting up a lion/wolf-creature, fighting off demons that came out of nowhere, spotting a dragon in the sky, grappling over a cliff, and solving a puzzle which let me enter a largely detailed tomb.
This game makes you want to know more about it's story, and that's great. It contains a nice mix of shooting up enemies, solving puzzles and giving the player a beautiful world to explore. The game sounds great too, weapons sound powerful and the music is really fitting.
For me personally, it did have too many things just SUDDENLY happening. For example, you examine a certain thing, the screen goes white and you're in a whole different place having to fight a boss. On the other hand, it made me wonder how I got there, because it was still kind of interesting. It could have given me more information on the story though, things were a bit confusing at times. One last thing, the Lip-Sync is way off, but maybe that's because the game originally is Chinese? Not too sure on that one.
Long story short; this game seems to have it all. I didn't even mention the superpowers Shelia has, like her EMP-Blast or her Light Blade, which is amazingly satisfying to use.
It takes place on a floating island(s) above the Arctic, which is a very unique setting in my opinion.
On top of all that, if you buy this game, you will get Bright Memory: Infinite for free when it launches, and I'm excited for that! Oh yeah, did I mention this game was made by 1 single person?!?! Oh I did? Sorry...
8,7 / 10 would smash a boss through a wall again.

It's a 30 minute demo, you have to pay for it but you'll also receive the full game on release, so it's a great deal for this price and especially during the sale.
I see people calling it RPG, it's not close to that, collecting XP to upgrade the skills doesn't make a game a RPG, it's basically an intense action game where you do a lot of shooting and sword slashing, there is a some platforming but that needs a bit of work, feels out of place and kills the pace of the non stop action this game excels at.
Buy it now if you want to support the Dev, or wait till the game is released and buy Bright Memory: Infinite for the full experience.

The gameplay is very fast paced and is the main focus of the game, you will be dashing constantly to avoid being damaged, until you get to the bosses where you need to time your dash. There's 3 weapons you can use, assault rifle, shotgun and pistol out of which the shotgun has the highest damage output. There's a few different outfits for the main character and key bindings currently can't be changed.
For achievement hunters:
There's a few skill based achievements, some collectables, nothing too hard and guided. 3 playthroughs are required.

I started to run this on Linux (Fedora 31) with protonDB, fully expecting the game not to work. Pleasant surprise #1: This game, in my experience, works out of the box on Linux.
Now let's start with the bad stuff:
The story is, shall we say, unfinished. It's a bunch of clichés stitched together in such a way that I really can't think of a satisfying ending. The early access game, BTW, doesn't have an actual ending anyway. Hey, a single, 30 min level... Don't expect a full story with character development, nuance, etc... Then again, Doom 2016 doesn't really have too much in the way of a story, but it's still a great game.
Some of the mechanics are a bit flaky (there's one puzzle with a crane, where you need the grapple). The grapple doesn't always work great in this environmental puzzle, but it's easily forgiven knowing that this is, again, early access, and you'll get the full game when it's done.
My last point of criticism has to be the enemies overall. The AI isn't great, and the boss fights are a bit on the repetitive side: empty out your magazine, by that time your power cooldown has expired, hit them with the light blade, dodge while reloading, empty another mag, and repeat.
The good stuff:
Graphics are fantastic. Running this on an RTX2070s, I honestly can't believe this game is running on the unreal engine, and is the work of a single person. There are some references to the Tomb Raider franchise, and quite honestly, the visual quality of the game isn't too far off of those AAA titles. It really is that good.
There's quite a lot of game mechanics I'm not familiar with, but even for the early access version, having an upgrade tree, various abilities (different type of attacks, time freeze, etc...) does make me eager to see what the full game will play like.
I know I mentioned the plot being little more than a bunch of clichés sticked together in the negatives. Truth be told, you might as well see that as a positive. It's not like this game pretends to be anything like the next half-life. It's not taking the genre of FPS games to a whole new level. It combines some mechanics we've seen in other games in a surprisingly easy to use way, wraps it up in a stunning visual package, and will set you back next to nothing.
A game made by a single person, approaching the polish of a AAA studio, with fun gameplay, and a (hopefully) hilariously predictable plot has oodles of charm in its own right
Last positive, while not really meaningful to the majority of people reading this review, I'm sure, is how this game runs on Linux. It's always great to know that the list of compatible games is ever growing, and while I wasn't expecting this early access game to work well under windows, let alone run playable on Linux, I'm always happy to be proven wrong.
Conclusion:
If the developer is indeed starting from scratch on the full game, I'm confident that the positive feedback received here will result in the mechanics remaining mostly the same. We'll just get more content, and perhaps some glitches (doors not opening until you reload the checkpoint) will be fixed in the finished game. All in all, strongly recommend this if you consider your purchase a pre-order with a first level preview thrown in.

Imagine Shadow Warrior (only prettier and with more fun abilities). a Devil May Cry-style rank system, and a setting that sort of is reminiscent of Tomb raider, only in the future/an alternate dimension. How could that not be amazing!?
Just like with the Devil May Cry series, Bright Memory gets more fun on a 2nd or 3rd playthrough with all abilities unlocked. The abilities all feel powerful and are very fun to use. The enemies are maybe a little basic, but they're still fun to fight.
My first playthrough took me around 45 minutes, while the 2nd and 3rd playthrough lasted around 25 minutes each. I definitely would play a full game of this, and luckily it looks like a full game is happening. I can't wait!
Highly recommended.
PS. I played through the game using each of the three available languages, and I recommend using the Japanese audio.
