Samsung Evo 850 SSD
Samsung Odyssey v1 WMR Headset

One thing worth noting is the ammo system. It's not exactly realistic, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Ammo count is decreased only when you fire a bullet. Ammo in magazines doesn't actually count. That means you can reload before your gun is empty and not waste ammo, but it also means you can run out of ammo, grab another gun that you had preloaded, and find it empty.
Pros:
- Crouching/jumping in game can be done via controls or by doing so IRL
- Large weapon variety - both guns and melee/throwable weapons
- All melee weapons can be thrown
- All weapons can be wielded one or two handed with varying degrees of success, e.g. two hands on an assault rifle doesn't work well, but two hands on a handgun reduces recoil
- Reloading guns is done physically
- Decent enemy variety
- Great sound effects
- Good variety of challenges and other things to do in the various arenas
- If you go to put another magazine in your gun the old one will just fall out. It took me way too long to realize this.
- Due to how the ammo system works you won't waste ammo by reloading a half-empty magazine without picking up the old one
Cons:
- While there is a huge variety of fantasy melee weapons, very few of these are available through the story
- Supposedly there was some sort of story, but a lot of it went over my head, it wasn't remotely clear what was going on beyond the general theme of being in VR (in the story) and the 'VR world' getting taken over by AI or something like that.
- Due to how the ammo system works, if you run out of ammo and pull out a different gun thinking 'this has a full magazine'... no it doesn't, you ran out of ammo.
Verdict: 9/10

Environment Graphics are simplistic but nice, and performance is way better than most VR games on my 1070.
Puzzles and platforming can be EXTREMELY physically demanding and frustrating, I love that aspect of it but if you do not have full range of motion in your IRL joints you will have some issues completing the story.
Lastly there is a large number of mods available and a working modloader

This game shouldn't be allowed to exist. Remember when HL2 came out and everyone thought it was a masterpiece for its time due to the physics engine and all that jazz? Take that, put it in vr, add free climbing, manual gun reloading, and a bunch of different weapons with different blunt or sharp properties that all do different things depending on what you swing them at.
This game is such a rush that nothing else has seemed to match for me and I love it so much.

The little inventory of only 5 slots is a bit angering because I want to carry a wide variety of weapons with me. and i have to drop a weapon for a collectable. this just su**ks.
and you never get told that ammo is actually a currency for buying weapons. i figured that out before the last level. and that by accident.
well bigger inventory or collectables which don't have to be dragged through the whole level and i would rate it
99/10 points.
OH THERE IS A FUC****ING SLOWMO BUTTON! OH GOD I LOVE THAT GAME.
BTW 15 hours is wrong. I played 2 times through the story and few other modes. It's more like 40 hours =)

My favorite part of the whole game is that there is no rule on what you can do, And the physics are just like REAL. You can interact with pretty much anything you want in the game. My favorite thing to do is do trick shots in slow-mo while doing fun tricks with my guns.
Anyways I would thoroughly recommend this game to anyone who wants to have fun with VR physics. The one thing that I don't like about the game is that you cannot play the games with your friends, and there is no Online Multiplayer. I hope they add that into the game sometime soon.

here are some fun things you can do if you get bored:
-Go back through the campaign and try to get all ammo possible (to unlock the Utility Gun and Nimbus Gun on the time tower)
-Get a power puncher and punch yourself
-Go back through the campaign and unlock the secret items littered across each level (including a katana)
-Go into sandbox and create custom missions / scenarios
-Download mods on the Bonetome (trust me its worth it)
One critique I have the fact that you have to use 3rd party software to add mods. They should really consider adding the steam workshop to this game.

For example, in Half Life Alyx, shooting a zombie in the head triggers a specific animation, to make the player feel like the zombie has reacted to that shot.
In Boneworks, when you shoot a zombie in the shoulder, you actually see the force of the bullet applied to that shoulder, and you see the torso rotate to absorb the force.
This type of physics-based gameplay is incredibly satisfying, and has me continuing to come back. Just to shoot things.

Because of the momentum and the full body simulation, the immersion is fantastic, this where Boneworks exceeds all the other VR games by the greatest margins. No glitching through objects, no feet hanging in mid air like magic. No weird crab walks when you duck. Everything works as you feel like it should in reality. Before you jump your character ducks a little, and if you duck lower and throw your hands up in sync you'll jump higher. Try to put your hands through a wall and instead of just flopping against it you'll push your whole body back like you're doing a wall push-off. Try to run on a wheeled cart or imbalanced object and you'll roll it backwards underneath you as and split the difference in momentum. My only slight gripe is trying to walk on big piles of loose rubble (or bodies) can make you feel like a baby giraffe as your character slips and slides trying to find their footing.
The puzzles are fun (often multiple solutions, a big plus) the physics simulation is used to brilliant effect in lots of places. Some puzzles feel like Human Fall Flat, except you have full body control instead of some QWOP like handicap at moving things. There's little clues scattered around to both the puzzles and lots of little easter eggs and secrets. And a nice smattering of lore stashed on notepads and graffiti'd on the world if you like to look at the little details.
The platforming is also fantastic. Because of the aforementioned immersion and simulation, the way you never hover anywhere and you can use your arms to adjust momentum, they just feel so good. Balancing and shimmying along a narrow ledge will feel properly tense, making a running leap for that swinging rope will feel amazing when you grab it and your arms whip up and your body starts swinging, and leaping over boxes and tipping over stacks of shelves as you go to dodge the hoard of angry NPCs behind will feel very cinematic. If you had the sensors for full body tracking I bet it would be even more incredible.
The melee is good. In isolation it doesn't feel quite as fun as B&S, but it's pretty damn close, and that's probably just because Boneworks is less of an insane power trip where you're not strong enough to punch people into orbit with your bare hands. And I'm a huge fan of the full body collision Boneworks has, meaning the enemies can't just float through you if you collide like they always do in B&S and ruin the flow. Again the inertia simulation aspect adds a lot to the melee, as you grab enemies and throw them around you'll also end up shifting your own body around in relation to them, and if you charge into someone or do a running skewer or you'll actually lose full-body movement speed as you make contact. Even the grip friction is simulated and analogue, if you stab something hard enough with a long handled weapon, your grip will slide along the shaft as you try to push forward, and the harder you hold the grip function on your controllers the stronger your in-game grip is.
The shooting is very satisfying all on its own, easily as fun as Pavlov's or Alyx's, and the weight/momentum and collision simulation really adds another extra layer to small vs big weapon CQC techniques. The core gun variety isn't huge, obviously way better than Alyx's 3 but not a gun smorgasbord like Pavlov, and there's weapon variants with differing attachments/sights to keep things fresher. Again the attention to detail shines, there's one deliberately very dark level in the story mode, and you'll suddenly realise how big of a difference actual glow in the dark sights makes to gun utility, nevermind the flashlight mounted weapons. BUT, and this is the biggest, best but you'll ever see; the gunplay feels great, in a game that also has good melee combat! Pavlov and Alex don't hold a candle to Boneworks when it come's to John Wick'ing your way through a hoard of shmucks. Knocking people over and popping heads as you hold them in an arm lock, blocking a swing with your rifle slamming them with the buttstock and nailing them as they fall over, flipping helmets off with a pistol whip and doming them on the return stroke, they all feel so badass. And you even have slo-mo to really nail the execution.
My biggest criticism is the game's campaign gets off to a very slow start, and it gatelocks all the really fun sandbox content until you reach/find certain milestones in the campaign mode. And it's understandable because the game itself takes a good bit of time to understand and to learn to use the fully reactive simulation aspects, so the first few levels are more or less playgrounds to try out the physics and movement options. And that's enough fun on its own with lots of little secret detours that you could easily spend several hours messing around before you even get your first gun, and another couple of hours after that before you really get to see the game shine when it puts everything together in more complex levels with actually serious enemies.
Oh and if you get VR motion sickness, this is definitely a game you'll have to acclimatize to. Mine is only mild, but in my first few play sessions of Boneworks it was definitely noticeable. But on the plus side, once you get used to it in Boneworks, you'll be basically immune to the feeble motion sickness of lesser games.

In detail:
The game isn't perfect, far from it actually. Interactions are often janky, performance isn't too great and collecting some things can be really tiresome. None of those can actually taint the experience though. Physics are incredibly immersive (my friends spend at least an hour each in the Breakroom before the actual tutorial). Weapons are distinct and feel natural after a short while. The inventory system is easy to use and doesn't let you take out your items periodically. While the story isn't as well-written as HL:A, it's definitely intriguing and unexpected.
On the subject of the campaign: it's around 9 hours, which isn't too great for a single player flatscreen game, but compared to other FPSs it's not too bad. Additionally, this only accounts playing through it once. On top of that you unlock the Arena mode, which lets you battle infinite waves of enemies or predetermined challenges with unlocked weapons. When it comes to collectables, there are a lot of them. Every level of the story mode holds at least a few weapon unlocks and many Sandbox mode unlocks.
Sandbox is akin to Garry's Mod. You get a utility gun and can spawn anything you've unlocked in the campaign. Redacted chamber and Hover Junkers don't have it, but instead offer you a smaller, standalone experience and let you unlock additional items.
Lastly we have the Zombie Warehouse - COD Zombies in VR. It's well made, melee weapons are scattered across the map. Utilities, guns and map expansions cost you ammo which you gain from kills. The mode also features the Board Gun which allows you to make barricades and play more tactically.
In conclusion: the game is a lot more than just a great campaign. If you want to unlock everything or at least the most interesting items, like the noclip gun, or the Utility Gun for the campaign, you'll play through it at least twice. If you add to that both arena gamemodes, sandbox and the promise of future updates, you get long, long fun.
BTW
I have NOT played Half-Life:Alyx yet, so I cannot fully compare them, but from my perspective Alyx is a lot more polished and gives you an incredible experience, but Boneworks is more unique and bold in the implemented mechanics (like the full, physics enabled body). Alyx however, has workshop support for both items and maps, while BW modding scene is barren. I might add a comparison section in the future.

[Pros]
+ Just about everything in the environment can be interacted with, allowing for a mindset where if you think you can do something, you probably can, which is a huge leap over other games where you really just walk around pointing and shooting.
+ Gun mechanics aren't as realistic as H3VR, but good enough that combat actually feels like you're holding a gun, unlike other games where you reload with the press of a button.
+ The game has a very game-like logic to it instead of taking itself too seriously. Hidden around the game are collectibles you can use in sandbox levels. This provides a very PS2-era sense of progression. Hell, the newest sandbox level has you collect Dragonballs to unlock a special item.
+ Arena levels exist to have fun with the combat system. You can play them the way you want to play, and often get a good workout from them with the melee combat.
+ The game is moddable, although not officially. I've currently got mods installed that add shotguns, which were removed from the game during its alpha.
+ The game runs and looks incredibly well, almost disturbingly so on my rig. It's almost black magic that there can be so many physics items around a map and the game can still look this good.
[Cons]
-Lack of comfort options means that motion sickness is a big problem for those who suffer from it. Some can get used to it fast, but others cannot.
-Sometimes player movement can be a little bit clunky, especially when trying to climb over things.
[Neutral]
? A small amount of metagaming knowledge is required. The game has an intro level with the differences between this and prior VR games to help ease the player into the game. The game also takes place inside a simulation within VR, so it's designed to look like a game in some places.

Ahem, anyway, onto an actual serious review. So, is the game fun? Extremely. I have somehow managed to get 18 hours played into the game in the span of no more than 3 days, even with a low-end (ish) computer and VR headset (Oculus Quest/Link), so it's only fair to say I really like the game. The physics are great, the graphics, even for low quality, are good, but its main problem is the sandbox mode and its story.
The sandbox mode.. isn't what you would expect. You actually have to unlock each individual map and item, by playing through the story. Now thankfully, there are save files out there that have most of, if not all, the items and maps unlocked, but then there are the achievements which you don't get.
And the story. For what it is right now (and I doubt it'll change later on), the ingame levels and physics puzzles are great for showing what Boneworks is capable of, but the actual story.. you know, the plotline and stuff.. It's pathetic. The cutscenes are fine, but most of the time I ended up skipping them.
So yeah, Boneworks: great game, good levels, sandbox that's just okay.

I had an amazing time playing this game on my Oculus Rift S. I played in a very cramped play space, but because of the game's heavy use of artificial locomotion, I had no problem beating the game in my small environment. That comes at a cost though, as this game made me nauseous many times. The comfort was surprisingly much higher than a game like The Talos Principle VR, which made me feel much sicker than this game when using artificial locomotion. Closer to the end of BONEWORKS I had almost gotten my VR legs, but the larger, more complicated environments were sometimes too much for my graphics card (GTX 970), leading to more nausea. I just wanted to get that discomfort part out of the way, as it might be an important factor to some people. Now for the good stuff.
The guns were amazing. I loved how I could hold down my rifle barrel with the blade of a knife to reduce recoil, then stab a nullbody with the knife when they got too close. I loved how I could load a gun, cock it, then put a new mag in to have an extra round. It made me FEEL like Batman.
The slow motion is very fun to work with, and I found myself using it constantly.
Another con though was that the physics were... finicky. I appreciate that a ton of work went into the physics, but it could have done with some more polishing. Especially when moving large and/or heavy objects, it wouldn't move in the way I wanted it to, leading to me feeling disoriented. Although having a body was cool, I did find it annoying that it sometimes got in the way. The arms would sometimes clip through objects, or my legs would prevent me from climbing onto ledges.
Much like a Souls/Borne game, the focus was on the gameplay rather than story. You don't have to pay attention to what is happening for it to be fun. But too like a Souls/Borne game, there was narrative sprinkled throughout. Writing on the walls, clipboards detailing company events and plans, and short video clips displayed on CRT monitors. There was a lot to do with watermelons, I'm not quite sure why. This truly is the Dark Souls of video games.
My biggest complaint with this game is that you cannot save and quit the game at any time, or even pause the game. For a VR game that can cause nausea, this is an issue. You can find save points in most levels, then quit, but some levels don't have save points.
Finally, the load times were annoyingly long (10-20ish seconds). I'm not sure what was causing this, but it wasn't comfortable to sit through.
Over all, I really enjoyed this game. I hope you do too. My rating for it is 8/10, and the PC specs that I played on are listed below, to give you better context for how I experienced this game.

Set in a physics-based deliberately crafted, uncanny computer simulation world you're left to your own devices to piece together your own story using the small clues scattered throughout the environment in the mysterious MythOS simulated world.
Each playthrough of the game's campaign and other missions is never the same as you learn more about the physics mechanics of the game that have a seemingly endless ceiling to master and have fun with as you play. You learn what you can climb and grab and what you can't, what you can move and how you can shoot, and how to use all of this to your advantage when exploring the world; Particularly vertically, where the game makes the most use of its space.
Explore the world thoroughly and uncover any secrets that may aid you on your journey. Look in every filing cabinet, trash bin, desk, and on top of every shelf or seemingly out of reach ledge that you can find and collect enough ammo and guns to use for filling the bad guys with holes. Collect enough ammo however, and you may be able to get some items that will help you greatly in your future playthroughs of the story and further amplify your sandbox experience.
Gather collectibles from the campaign and unlockable missions in the form of almost anything you can imagine from guns, to melee weapons, to objects in order to further enhance the sandbox portion of the game where you're free to create or destroy to your heart's content.
If you have your VR legs and a decent computer, there is literally no reason to not play this game. It is an immersive and mastercrafted experience waiting to be unraveled that has endless replayability.

For everyone else, this is an absolutely brilliant game, one of the few on VR that I have been excited to get back into every day and the first time I've been genuinely wowed by physics puzzles since firing up HL2. In short, in Boneworks' world, if you think it could be possible, it usually is,
The obvious comparison product is Half Life Alyx, which is a smooth, polished VR experience BUT, despite its brilliance, Alyx still feels like it's on rails and designed to move you from moment to moment as a tech demo with the illusion of freedom. Boneworks has more of the old school Half Life ethos where you see a distant door and how you get there is up to you and breaking the rules and taking a different path to the obvious is part of the experience (and often rewarded too). Beyond the 15 hour or so story line, there are sandboxes, arenas, challenges and much more to check out that make this exceptional value for money.
There are places where Boneworks falls down, the first is the use of both hands at once; climbing and manipulating larger objects (like crates and barrels), both feel like you're fighting the engine, rather than working with it, though this is likely down to the limitations of the controller tracking through the Oculus Quest I used to play.
The second is the inventory system, which relies on placing items into predefined holsters about your body by letting go of them in the right location. Great idea, but again, poor tracking occasionally leads to a prized weapon being dropped during a fight, or worse, falling into one of the games many abysses, never to be seen again. One especially frustrating moment involved dropping a flashlight during a dark tunnel sequence and having to load an earlier save.
These minor gripes aside, Boneworks is really worth a play and represents one of the few complete VR single player experiences, and one with good replay value, on several occasions having completed a tricky puzzle, I realised that the devs had hidden a short cut in plain view (like a climbable pipe or hidden walkway) and I'm already curious as to where they all lead!
The continued addition of extra content is appreciated too and I look forward to checking out the Zombie Arena that dropped this week.
An absolute gem, at a reasonable price and well worth a look.
The second limitation is

There are no teleport controls here for the squeamish, no training wheels, but the benefit of not being built for those things is a really immersive experience with nice melee and gunplay, and endless potential for open-ended gameplay.
I'd describe the gameplay as being sort of Half-Life or Portal-esque.. It has a little semi-linear guided portion near the beginning that helps to familiarize you with the game, then gives you large open-ended levels to explore and fight in, with multiple paths through. There's a balance between combat, puzzle-solving, and exploration... and the game doesn't get mad if you use physics to cheat the puzzles, or carve your own path by stacking objects until you can reach something to climb on and bypass entire sections of the levels entirely..
Your reward for at least trying things the intended way, or sometimes just for having a keep sense of exploration, is items that you can bring to one of the game's many reclaim centers, which unlocks them for use in Sandbox mode.
I'm still slowly progressing through this game, trying things out and exploring every nook and cranny I can find, but so far it's been a blast and i'm very impressed. Try it out.

I laughed out loud after this occurrence as I felt an overwhelming relief that I had just survived it, and blown away by how fluid and natural the whole situation played out. All of my actions were genuine reactions to what was happening to me in the game environment, and the game allowed me to do it. From that point on, I was sold. This has been a great glimpse into the potential of VR gaming.
My life is different now.
