The best part of these games is how you feel like you are drawn into a small world that these characters inhabit. I could easily see this as a TV series.

I enjoyed the acting and the stories. There is not much you could say that is wrong with the game, except that it could have been beefed up a little more, some how? More story? More puzzles? Somehow...

The second game is the weakest, overall, yet I really enjoyed being able to experience it, so it worked well as part of the whole.

With that said, the only real downside is that it's really short! Buying the package of 4 games is like buying 4 parts of one game. I gave this review positive because I did in fact buy it as one game. Had I purchased them one at a time I would have brought the ratings down a touch.

moving back to the present, the third blackwell game at times feels like a modern retelling of the previous game, but it does it in a way that you don't notice and builds upon the storyline established in the previous game with more surrealistic and abstract elements. plus, this game got me to learn about joe gould! don't let anyone tell you that games won't ever teach you anything. the visuals have got a massive upgrade with much slicker pixel art and weather effects such as rain, which is always welcome, yet never come at the cost of storytelling or game design or anything. puzzles are still pretty straightforward but I got confused a few times.

What a great continuation of the first two games. It's made in the same style as the previous ones with only a slight graphical overhaul - still pixels, just.... nicer, smoother. If the first two Blackwell installments hooked you up then this here is a must.

The Blackwell Convergence is the third game in the Blackwell series. This game is a point and click adventure where you play as medium Rosa Blackwell and her spirit guide, Joey Mallone as they solve a string of supernatural murders.

Rosa and Joey look into the ghost of Frank Lyons, an actor now famous after his death, only to discover that his death is connected to some other unusual deaths, including some that Joey investigated with Lauren in the previous game. Rosa and Joey have to uncover the cause of these deaths and their connection to the Countess before anyone else dies.

The gameplay in Convergence is pretty typical for the series: you walk around, talking to people, gathering information, and solving puzzles to help the ghosts move on and otherwise move the story forward. In this game, you don't have to combine clues in the notepad in order to get other clues, unlike in some of the other games in the series. Overall, I would say that the difficulty in this game is on par with the other games in the series, maybe slightly easier. There were a couple of small puzzles that weren't especially intuitive, but for the most part I thought everything was pretty reasonable.

This game is probably the least interesting of the series when it comes to characterization of our protagonists, but it's still pretty good. Joey's character isn't really expanded on very much in this one, but it's nice to see how Rosa has changed since becoming a medium: she's coming out of her shell a little bit and she's pursuing novel writing, although it isn't working out much for her so far.

I didn't have any technical issues with this game, although like the previous games, it is a little older, so expect the game to look a little weird in bigger screen sizes. Also like the previous game, this game turns off the commentary by default when you reload a save, but if you enable it in the main menu before playing each time you should get the achievement.

Overall, The Blackwell Convergence is a pretty solid continuation on the Blackwell series. If you liked the previous games, you'll probably like this one too. While I don't think it's the best of the series, it has most of the strengths of the other games and continues on the series well. 8/10

Let's not kid ourselves.

You did not buy this game for the gameplay.

You bought it to farm cards so you could either:

1) Craft that Level 3 Blackwell Convergence pink collar badge for your hentai themed profile
2) Sell the cards on the marketplace so you can profit off people crafting that Level 3 Blackwell Convergence pink collar badge for their hentai themed profile

Great game, even greater Steam badge.

Honestly, I played the first and it was pretty good. There were a few puzzles, I liked the clue combining in the notebook, and the storyline was compelling despite the ghost dude grating on my nerves. I skipped the second after reading reviews. I'm not interested in a game where you don't get to choose a better ending and a lot of the reviews said the puzzles had stopped being compelling. I felt the same way about this third installment- the puzzles were really lacking, there were no positive ways to solve interactions with the ghosts, and I really, really disliked the dialog from the ghost. I didn't even finish the game, because it felt like playing a walking simulator with a bad storyline instead of a point and click or adventure game. Maybe their newer ones are good, but I'm not spending any more on them after this disappointing entry.

[Reviewed by my wife] This installment is full of references to the 2 previous ones and gives a lot of very compelling answers for a deeper plot. I feel that the ability to alternate between playing Joey (the ghost) and Rosa, is best used in this Blackwell and complexifies the puzzles nicely without being very difficult either. If we are stuck it’s nice to be able to have discrete clues when talking to Joey. I like the wide range of cast in that series, with people with different experiences and wildly different personalities. This is also the biggest character growth for Rosa, which I really enjoyed.

I started the Blackwell series a few years ago just with the intention of a game to pass the time. Almost 10 years later, I resumed the series to achieve all the achievements.
My surprise, in one of these achiviements is to discover that the story and the characters are not so fictitious...
In addition to a captivating story, and being able to follow the technological evolution of the games in the series, to know that the people who really existed, and that the stories, even if they are fiction, have a tip of truth, is already worth the whole series.
And now I am diving into the story of Joe Mitchell and The New Yorker magazine...

The third game of Blackwell series and once again we play as Roseangela. Six months after the first time she met Joey, Rose's personality has changed, she started to be more confident and ready to speak and confront anyone. The story starts off with a new case. A man who jumped off the ledge and his death was ruled as a suicide, his ghost was still lingering around and Rose had to release it. Once she was done, Rose realized she had forgotten an appointment with her friendly neighbor who was waiting for her in the gallery. Surprisingly this gallery will be a link to many other cases, and something related to her aunt's past.

I loved this game the most, I liked how Rose has changed and she clearly trusts Joey who you can play as in this game. The only different thing is you can't combine clues anymore, you'll just write down whatever she wants to remember and ask about. Rose has her trusty computer to search for information, and she has her own email too. The artwork of this game has really improved and the music is outstanding, especially the credits soundtrack.

There are a couple of puzzles where you need to use items if you ever stuck you can speak to joey and he'll give you hints of what to do next, but there is an achievement of not asking for hints. If you are after achievements, they are very easy, especially that you can manually save your progress and return to it to do the other thing, for example getting drunk or refuse to drink.

Pros:
+Interesting story.
+Beautiful soundtracks.
+Well-done voice over.
+Beautiful and detailed pixel art.
+Fast travel map.
+Manual + Automatic save files.
+Hinting system (Asking Joey what to do next)
+Steam achievements.

Cons:
- Nothing!

Everything about this series makes me regret not playing it earlier. I loved the new style of the character's portraits, at the beginning I didn't like it, especially Joey, but the more I look at them the more I love the style and details!

As always the music is so good. I did enjoy this as a follow up to Unbound.
The developments in the story keep me wanting more.
I didn't realise Joseph and Joe were real people until I found the secret menu. I'm interested to learn more so I may watch the film or read the book.
It's an old game so the mechanics are tricky sometimes. I'm learning this game is quite easy compared to other point and clicks.

In the third installment of the Blackwell series, we return to the present as Rosa, after our brief departure into the past.

If you're playing the series, you know what to expect by now, except the art is noticeably more polished for this game. Personally, I actually liked Unbound a little better than Convergence, story-wise. I'd still recommend you play this one as there's some lore here that's important to know for later.

This is the 3rd episode of Wadjet Eye's Blackwell series after Legacy and Unbound.

Pros:
  • As Legacy already told us how Rosa and Joey met we are thrown right in the middle of things here.
  • There is a close connection to Unbound in this game - while the 2nd episode in the series is actually a prequel it is still recommended to go in order (Legacy-Unbound-Convergence) as the antagonist will be familiar here.
  • Dave probably had a bigger budget at disposal as this game looks prettier (especially compared to Unbound). I think the stories are also improved upon as we play the sequels.

Cons:
  • Not really issues but I thought I'd mention two things. First of, while the commentary option is available only Dave speaks. I particularly liked this mode in Unbound as some of the other staff members were available to comment.
  • Combining clues is not possible anymore. This added an extra challenge in the other two games - Dave does give a valid reason for its absence amongst the commentaries, though.

A great sequel in the series. I really am looking forward to completing the final two. In case you liked the first 2 episodes you're going to like this one even more.

Blackwell Convergence is the third entry of the series and sadly the shortest of them all. The puzzles are very simple, but the story and voice acting are both very good. Part of the journey, worth the bundle.

Wrapped this one just now. Lovely game and a massive improvement over the two earlier games, the dev said himself that he spend a 2-3 months on previous games, and this one took almost two year.

You still need to play the earlier games first, else the story won't make any sense, and this is very much a story driven game. Puzzles are almost non-existent, with most of game time being spent either on conversation or cutscenes.

Artwork is still 320x240, but it looks simply stunning, very much on par with late Sierra games (too realistic to compare with LucasArts output). Music is great as well, main motif gets arranged into various, mostly jazzy tunes. Only low point was the ending nu-rock song, which completely didn't fit the rest of the game.

Commentary mode has ~30 minutes of content, but I must say, I'd prefer if it wasn't as much focused on voice acting - roughly half of the entries deal with stories about that.
