I love BioShock 2. Best in the series in my opinion. But this game made me go on a damn journey just to try and make it playable. The short version is it crashes so much and I have had to start over 4 times trying to make this thing work.
The long version is I started playing didnt even get 10 minutes into the game and it crashed. I hadn't saved yet so I had to start over. I tried again and it crashed again in the same spot. Started over again and this time was saving every 2 minutes just in case it crashed. Surprise it crashed again only in a different spot. I checked online and went down the path of trying to edit files and convince the game to work. I tried one fix of editing files to keep DirectX10 working. I booted up the game and it crashed as soon as I loaded my save. Started yet another new game thinking maybe it was a error in the old save. Nope still crashing and I went back to try a new fix. Tried a fix to disable DirectX10. Started up the game again and was optimistic. Everything worked for a hour and then the crashes where back. I have been trying desperatly to save every few minutes and in multiple save slots in case it crashes and corrupts my saves. I have lost progress over and over again. Now I think it's finally fully broken. I can't load any of my recent saves without it crashing as soon as I hit a button. 7 hours of limping through this game and I might have to start over again. Please think about if the nostalgia of playing this is actually worth the frustration and heartbreak.

Played this version after the remastered version kept crashing on me. This one crashes too, but far less. I just quick saved a lot.

Bioshock 2 improves a lot of gameplay elements from 1. The hacking, while difficult at times, is way more fun of a mini game than in 1, the Big Daddy drill is incredibly satisfying, the exploration is a little more open. I think this propels itself to my favorite game of the series. It's like 1, but more improved and not as up its own @$$ like infinite.

After playing BioShock 1 everyone is familiar with the amazing and unique artstyle of these games. Gameplay wise there are some improvements over the previous one. The story is also really good and engaging, but still feels inferior to the orignal BioShock 1 story, due to shear diversity and depth of the characters in orignal title. But still one may argue that the stories are completely different and he/she would not be wrong.
The game is set around 10 years after the events of the first BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again reverberate with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been grabbing young girls and taking them back to the undersea city of Rapture. You are the absolute first Big Daddy as you travel through the decrepit but gorgeous fallen city, pursuing an unseen enemy looking for answers and your own survival.
Comparing to Bioshock 1, the weapons are better, plasmids are better, enemies are better. At some points, even the storytelling is better. What’s most amazing and surprising about BioShock 2, however, is that by diving deeper into Rapture’s tortured history and exploring more of Rapture’s haunted world, it actually manages to make the original BioShock better, too.

Comment: for sure the game has some improvements compared to the original Bioshock, but the story is average. However, it's endings and it's actual climax is great!

DLC: The DLC has everything that you would expect from a DLC to have, i'd definitely suggest playing it!

This version should be the definitive to play instead the remastered :)

Graphics 7.5/10
Story 9/10
Gameplay 8.5/10
Music 9/10

Overall 8.5/10

This game has some flaws that carried away with the remastered such like randome crashes (at least this version got minor crashes instead the Remastered) and probably one of the most annoying save system, kinda early 2000's, but memorable and it's still hold up for modern standards, so go for it and enjoy it ;)

Crashes way too often for having 0 auto saves. It's ridiculous to force players to save every 3 minutes so they don't potentially lose over an hours worth of progress like I did. Even the remaster is a buggy mess that crashes often too, with minimal improvements. So don't waste your money on this on Steam, maybe the Xbox or Playstation copies aren't this much of a buggy mess.

Update 1/24/2022: I started saving every 5-10 minutes and lost another HOUR off my playthrough of the main game because it corrupted my save files. At this point it's almost laughable that they never cared to fix crashes, even with the remaster. Really sad to see such a good game go to waste.

There are a lot of reviews saying that this game crashes, and I'm agreeing this is true after playing a couple of days. After my 3rd or 4th time playing, I noticed just for today that its crashing more than usual. Be careful of purchasing this game as some people can get very frustrated at the game crashing from time to time to very often. If you can manage with the game crashing go ahead, other wise the game crashing can ruin your time playing this game that you don't like it anymore. I'd hardly think there will be people that will go back and fix the bug crashes. Unless a coder makes a fix.

Much better than the first game thanks to a better hacking minigame, more control of your environment with you being able to repair turrets and cameras, better weapons, better story, and better level design with monster ecologies being an actual factor since you will spend more than 30 seconds in an area before leaving it.

Only play the remastered version, unless you really want to play multi-player, because the MP mode is not included in the remastered edition.
This version keeps crashing and all the problem solutions that are there don't really help depending on your system.

first of all let me get this out of the way. im leaving a bad review not because of the game, but because of the port.
bioshock 2 is an all around phenomenal game that i would consider just as good as the original. the story driven atmosphere and the settings and themes are downright amazing. but there is one problem i have and that is the port to pc. as much as i wanted to focus on the story, i couldnt. every 10 minutes i would crash and every 5 i would have to save. the constant bugs and crashing led me to having to save every 5 minutes which left me no time to focus on the story, let alone the gameplay. as much as i would like to give a good review, i cant. i even tried buying the remastered version just to realize that it had the same issues the original does. and the fixes i find online are temporary at best. all and all, great game, bad port

Bioshock 2 is the best game out of the three in my opinion. The game mechanics were balanced, on top of that you get to play a big daddy!!! This game has great map design, plot is explained in creative ways. You actually get attached to the characters as you progress. So would you kindly buy bioshock 2???

The game mechanics (new weapons, new ways of hacking, big sisters, adopting little sisters, new plasmid features, etc.) are fun and have improved compared to the first game.
The plot is good (kinda boring until you reach the final parts... but good) but in my opinion the original Bioshock's plot was WAY BETTER and SUPERIOR to this one.

The only issue I can point out is that the sound design and music was a bit weird for me... Other than that I don't understand why many people just ignore or dislike this one. It's not as epic as BS1 but It's still very good. Recommended.

A great sequel, you get a whole new perspective of rapture, tons of fun, BUT, it crashes a lot, to be honest it is not actually a good port, only after a few fixes, what worked for me was to add -dx9 to the launch options and it stopped crashing, but I've heard some people weren't as lucky as I was. The remaster is great and I had less crashes with that one so I definitely recommend the remaster.

Yet, the game is a masterpiece, a must-have.

I dont have much to say because basically i have covered most of what i wanted to say in the first bioshock game, i also want to add that the multiplayer is awesome, you can customize, your loadouts (guns, upgrades, plasmids and tonics), your appereance (well you can only select masks and melee weapons but it is fine) and your character (warning the multiplayer doesnt save on cloud but on your computer). A huge problem is the fact that this game crashes alot unlike the first bioshock game (either on multiplayer either on the story mode). Also i dont understand why the multiplayer exists ONLY on the original version of bioshock 2 and not on the remastered version as well.

Tbh bioshock 2 isn't as good at the first bioshock game. But It's still a good game. Plus the dlc minervas den definitely makes up for the shorter campaign. All in all i highly recomend playing this for yourself. But only after playing the first game.

The kind of game you play once and its marked forever in your memories, bound to replay when nostalgia hit. Maybe its the the concept or the dialogues that make you mumble jumble or the moral choices or the soundtrack, the plasmids and guns.. not sure you have to play it and see for yourself.

Amazing game, much better than the first. It had an awesome story, the gameplay was awesome and they toned down the difficulty compared to the first game. It was fun to play and I enjoyed it, didn't die too many times compared to the first game, it was basically an whole improvement from the first game. Very good, would recommend, 9/10

The game is pretty good. It is not as good as the first game however it is still worth playing. Hacking is a huge improvement, you get to play as a big daddy which is fun. The guns are fun to shoot as well as the plasmids. The story is interesting however not nearly as interesting as bioshock 1. For some reason you cannot upgrade every weapon to level 3 and that is a huge disappointment because the upgrades are good in this game. The main villain is not very interesting and the ending is just ok. The game also crashes a lot so prepare to save often. Despite the flaws its a good game and probably worth buying.

When it comes to Bioshock, the sequel has some really big daddy shoes to fill.

Story:

You play as Subject Delta, who is a big daddy. It's 1958 and you're patrolling Rapture with your little sister Eleanor. After Eleanor's mother Sofia Lamb takes Eleanor from Delta and then forces him to kill himself. Now it's 1968 and you awake from your ten year slumber and you set out to find Eleanor because if you don't you'll die.

The story while decent, is nowhere near as good as the first Bioshock and at moments it can really slog. I think the pacing is all over the place as the game starts off incredibly slow, but once it sort of picks up it does get good, but never amazing. There's quite a few set pieces that almost border on being amazing, but there's that spark that the first game had that is just simply not here.

Graphics:

Bioshock 2 still looks great to this day and that will likely remain to be the case for a while. Rapture is still a brilliant location to explore and now a bit of time has passed and Rapture is now even more collapsed. Stopping and taking in the sights when inside Rapture and then even more amazing when you're outside walking around the sea floor.

The enemy designs are again also really gnarly and the new additions of the Big Sisters who are tall thin and athletic Big Daddy type enemies are just absolutely awesome and top the first game. There are a few issues like a few of the textures being blurry and some minor texture pop ins, but these are so minor that I didn't really have a problem with them.

Audio:

Bioshock 2 again nails it's audio design. The soundtrack is again top notch with some really great music, that is about on par with what the composer created for the first Bioshock. It's great atmospheric music that really helps build this grand atmosphere when exploring Rapture and fighting enemies.

The sound effects in my opinion are also better and really makes the first game look almost amateur (just barely). Since you play as a big daddy you have an access to a drill (more on it in the gameplay section), but honestly when that thing starts ripping into splicers and blood starts flying everywhere with the sounds it makes, it's just something incredibly satisfying about it.

Gameplay:

Bioshock 2 in the gameplay section is a bit of a mixed bag for me, in some ways I like it better than the first Bioshock, but in some ways it's even worse. First of all, for new players, Bioshock 2 is an explorational FPS game where your main goal is to go to point A to B while killing enemies, looking for upgrades for yourself and your weapons and of course looking for the notes and records that add more rich lore to the Rapture universe.

So let's start with the good. The combat in the first Bioshock could get really wonky at times, the aiming felt loose and sometimes the hit detection wouldn't be the best. However I feel like most of that is fixed in Bioshock 2 and the combat feels a lot tighter. It really feels good to wreak havoc with weapons and your arsenal is pretty big with stuff like rivet guns, shotguns and machine guns. Also Jack's trusty wrench is switched to a GOD DAMN DRILL and this thing feels great to use when ammo runs low, simply because it's satisfying to use, albeit in certain instances it's uses are limiting.

Another big change for the better is that allows you to use plasmid powers and weapons at the same time, which allows for tons of great combat possibilities, like freezing an enemy and then shattering them with your drill. It helps the combat flow much better and honestly makes it much more fun to get in combat scenarios.

However there are a few negatives that really makes this game a major slog to get through. First thing is that there's a lot of times where you have to travel big distances back and forth if you intend to look for all the collectibles and honestly it does get slightly tedious in other longer chapters of the story.

Also since you're a big daddy you have the ability to adopt little sisters and one of the major aspects is them collecting adam for you. Once you pick them a trail appears that leads you to a corpse and you have to protect them while they harvest the adam and these sections are so incredibly boring that I dread every time I have to do them.

Verdict:

Bioshock 2 is nowhere near as good as the first game, but when it does shine, it shines bright. Even though the first few hours are slow, once the game gets going it does get really good and honestly it's just amazing exploring rapture as a big daddy. Not to mention now when you buy the game you also get the remastered version for free, which is a bonus. So definitely check it out if you're a fan of the first one.

Final Rating:
8/10

Pros:
+ New changes to combat are great
+ Playing as a Big Daddy is awesome
+ Graphics are still great
+ Amazing score

Cons:
- The first half of the game are insanely tedious
- The moments where you collect Adam are insanely boring
- Story doesn't have the same depth as the first game

Bioshock 2 does not cause the same impact as the first game but at least it has a very good story, another positive point was that they improved the gameplay. It also has a multiplayer that nobody plays and it seemed like a completely unnecessary addition but in the rest it is all good I recommend it anyway.

In it's current state, I can't recommend this game as it crashes continuously 30mins into the game. There were also significant issues regarding horizontal movement. It's not a matter of my Rig, as a 1070 and an i9-990k is MORE than enough to run this -- but I ran it on both high and low settings to now avail. This needs to be fixed yesterday.

[strike] Buy the remaster [/strike]

Dont buy any version of Bioshock 2, just read the story on wikipedia. Its just a miserable console port in both versions.
I got both as part of a bundle and decided to play this one since the remaster seemed less optimised that the original, I was very wrong. [strike]The remaster works flawlessly. [/strike]

The issues?
Mouse sensitivity resets each time you restart the game, respawn or reload a save file ( this will happen often if you play on harder difficulty and get to later levels ), music volume slider doesnt work ( music is too loud so i put it to 0 which did nothing, its still at max ), FOV is really small you cant adjust it, at least not in-game, in the menu there is mouse acceleration which you cant turn off, and combine this with the need to often readjust the sensitivity it will drive you insane.

Is the remaster better?
Yeah, all the issues listed above are fixed, graphics are almost the same really, but the textures are sharper. Either way at least the gameplay aspect and [strike] the rest of the game is working normally. [/strike] The remaster crashes every 10 minutes, not worth.

Story
From what I saw the story is intriguing, voice acting is good, characters are interesting. I played through maybe half of the game, but i didnt get to finish it obviously. I will replay it all it the remaster i already mentioned.

Overall a solid 10/10 and in my eyes the best game out of the whole series. I know not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to buy every game. If you only have the ability to buy one bioshock title due to budget restraints then Bioshock 2 will definitely leave you the most satisfied out of the three choices. Also some tips for new players be sure to fully upgrade the machine gun, and rivet gun as they are your most useful weapons at your disposal. As far as plasmids are concerned max level incinerate and insect swarm are your best bet for maximum damage per second. Make sure you loot around a lot and explore hidden areas as this can help you as well.

Audio:

It did away with Bioshocks interesting plot, well argued philosophical elements, characters, gameplay and setting that all beautifully fed into each other to create one of the most memorable games of all time.

It's the cheap, cash-in kind of sequel that tricks people into valuing something familiar over genuinely exciting new ideas. If you want gaming to improve as a medium, please don't buy it.

Multiplayer's alright, if that's your bag.

BioShock 2 is a game published by 2K, which continues the first game's plot. The story takes place in Rapture, 10 years later after the events of the first game, and the player will play as a Big Daddy.

I'll start with the gameplay. In my opinon, it is improved, thanks to the fact that now you can use your plasmids while using your weapons. I don't know how other players may react to this change, but for me I'd say that it encourages them to use them more. Also hacking sequences are shorter, you can move and fight while doing it, and the puzzles have been redesigned. Unfortunately, no new plasmids are introduced, and they are the same of the original game (except for one, but that would be a spoiler).
Other mechanics (such as the Little Sisters) have been redesigned too, and I've found them to be enjoyable.
The story is good, and just like the original BioShock it has some good scenes that may shock you.

I'd recommend this game to everyone who played the first BioShock because it continues the story well, and I'd give it an 9/10. A really great addition to the story of a fantastic series, especially if you are going to play Minerva's Den too.

She won the custody and won't let me see my daughter

Despite this entry not being as powerful, bold, or interesting lore-wise than the first game, I would still say that Bioshock 2 is probably my favourite of the Bioshock trilogy. From my experience and my opinion, it maintains a pretty good balance of good story and good gameplay. As I mentioned above, the story is definitely not as good as the first one. Bioshock 2, in some way, feels like a DLC to the first game story-wise. This isn't too much of a bad thing though. Sequels, even in other mediums like movies, etc, are often developed with very ambitious intents and meanings. By this I mean that often directors, developers, authors, etc often try to create a project that is much more bigger and successful than the previous entry which brought success. This often does not work out, and sometimes, just having a simple sequel isn't too bad either. I won't spoil anything about the story, but in my opinion, the story of Bioshock 2 is fine and it holds itself up. I personally found it good but not to that compelling level that some games achieve (like the first Bioshock). I think there is a big difference in a compelling story and a good story. A compelling one sticks with you for a long time and leaves an everlasting impact. Enough about the story, now onto the gameplay. I think the gameplay is where Bioshock 2 succeeds best. I genuinly had so much fun with this game because of its fun gameplay. Everything is pretty much improved and some have new things added onto. Plasmids, for most part, are the same from Bioshock 1 which I have no problem with. Though maybe it would have been cool to introduce more cooler ones, bringing the iconic ones from the first game back was good. A big part which was improved was the upgrade system, both weapons and plasmids. The weapon upgrade system in this game was really great. Like the previous game, you could get two upgrades for each weapon which also added visual additions to the weapon; however, in Bioshock 2, after you get two upgrades for a weapon, you have the choice to give it a what I like to call a 'unique' upgrade. This upgrade usually adds a big changing factor to the weapon that can completely change up the playstyle and usage of the weapon. For example, the Minigun is often used for focusing down single targets with beefy HP, but with the Ricochet upgrade, the minigun now instead becomes a crowd control tool. These upgrades add an extra layer of depth to the gameplay and playstyles you can choose from. Plasmid upgrades are also quite cool, though I think some of them are quite impractical. Not too much to say here. The weapons are similar to the arsenal from Bioshock 1 with a few changes. Few new variant of enemies were introduced, and depending on the player, you could end up hating the game for this one specific new enemy variant or end up finding them interesting and cool. Hacking has been improved significantly and is way more better. There is a lot to talk about here but I'll just end it here and say: buy the game. I'd recommend getting the game on sale. You can still play this game without Bioshock 1 because it mostly focuses on a different storyline, though, I would recommend to play Bioshock 1 first if you can, as you will have a better understanding and familiarity to everything that is going on.

I still don't get why people hate this game.
This game is just as fantastic as the first game and even has some really good improvements.
However, configuring the game can be a pain in the ass, but other than that, it's not that bad. I mean, it's not like configuring Sonic Adventure 2, that's for sure.
Now, I would say that I like the original Bioshock more, because of reasons, but I still find this game pretty damn good.

BioShock 2 is even better than the original...however, I still cannot recommend this game. This is the original iteration of the game, and there is currently a superior remastered version available on Steam (which is also available in the series bundle). Unlike some remasters that change the game significantly and effectively are two different games, this game's remaster is a just graphical overhaul so there is literally no reason to pick this version. They are effectively the same game, with one mode difference.*
  • *WARNING: This original version contains the only iteration of multiplayer in the BioShock series. The Remaster, does NOT contain the multiplayer. However, considering that the multiplayer is dead and that it was an abomination in the first place, you are not missing out on much by grabbing the remastered version.

Dad Simulator 2010: Rapture Edition

Too Long; Didn't Read: Bioshock 2 improves and innovates on every aspect of the original. Gunplay is far more intense and fast paced, exploration has been made more satisfying, challenge has been significantly increased, game looks great all these years later.
Unfortunately the story of this game just cannot compete with the plot of the first, and while it had heart-breaking moments, it just could not trump the first game's amazing twists.
However Bioshock 2 is still an amazing title with far better gameplay, a longer campaign, and more of Rapture to plunder and fight through. It is definitely worth playing, especially if you enjoyed the first game.

The Gameplay

Combat: Bioshock 2’s combat is an improved version of the first game's. Not much has been changed, but an awful lot has been expanded upon. You now dual wield both a weapon and a plasmid, which streamlines the rather awkward shooting present in the first game.

Since the player character is a Big Daddy this time around, Subject Delta, his weapons are larger, heavier versions of the original selection that really do make you feel like a hulking metal beast. The pistol is now a rivet gun, the wrench a drill, the tommy gun is now a heavy machine gun, etc. They function slightly differently as to make the combat more balanced, and overall, I find them an improvement over their predecessors.

Plasmids, the “superpowers” of Bioshock also make a return. They function almost identically as to how they did in the first game, but with two differences. The first difference being that dual wielding makes them far easier to use, like stunning someone the moment you seem them with electrobolt, before following it up with a shotgun blast, all within a second.

The second difference is that upgrading them gives them new, varied attack options, as opposed to the first game where it just made them more powerful. Now you can make traps that unleash vicious bees on unsuspecting victims, release flames from your hand like a flamethrower, or summon two flying robot companions to help you.

Little changes to the player also make the combat feel more intense and challenging. The health pack and eve refill limit has been changed from 9 to 5, which immediately makes the game more tense. The research mechanic returns, but now it films the enemy as you fight them, and gives more rewards the more diverse your attacks.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2178870092

Exploration: Rapture may be falling apart, but there’s still great loot to plunder. Exploration is just as fun and rewarding as it was the first time around. The level design is even better this time around with the developers taking the lessons they learned making the first game as to make certain areas and rewards even more hidden than before.

Audio logs return giving insight into the villains of the game, the poor citizens of Rapture, the cult takeover of the great city, and the many little stories of the areas you explore. As always, they are fascinating to listen to as they give amazing lore of the city, as well as hints to secret areas or supply codes for locked safes. The voice acting on them is also fantastic.

Hacking returns in a major way. You still hack sentry guns and cameras to have them aid you in your fight, but now it is also used to unlock powered doors. The new hacking mini game is no longer a pipe puzzle that freezes the game, but instead a quick time event that has you defenceless as you try to hack. This means now you have to now plan out your attack instead of risking it all.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2179477832

To help aid you in this decision is the remote hack tool. It shoots darts that allow you to hack from afar. This gives an advantage to combat, but also exploration, forcing the player to find a crack in a window, or a gap in the floor, so they may hack a door open from the inside.

The Story & Presentation

Bioshock 2’s story has you play as Subject Delta, a prototype Big Daddy, who is sent to find his Little Sister, Eleanor Lamb. The situation becomes very complicated when it turns out the new head of Rapture is Eleanor’s mother, Sofia Lamb, who controls the city and people by uniting them all through her cult, “The Rapture Family”.

The writing has cleverly chosen to go for a more emotional story, with it presenting itself as a race against time. The mystery of Rapture and its creation has mostly been solved, so the game has decided to make you a resident of Rapture, and immediately throw you into the action.

The many secrets in the story are fun and sometimes horrifying to reveal, and the many twists in the game threw me off as I tried to guess where the plot was headed. But the ending, while satisfying, did not leave me with the same joy as the first time around. It’s nice to know my choices had meaning, but the game relies too much on the player really loving and connecting with Eleanor, and like most games that rely on an emotional ending, it can sometimes lose its impact on players.

You explore old rapture this time around, which means you’ll mainly explore Shanty Towns and Prison Blocks this time. This coupled with the fact that Bioshock 2 takes place 10 years later, means everywhere you go in Rapture is falling apart, losing all colour and grandeur, if it even had any to begin with.

While I like seeing new areas of Rapture, it is a shame the city looks so dull this time around. I like the look of the glorious city falling apart, but I feel the art direction could have given each area a unique flair. Every zone you travel to is made up of greys, browns, and blacks. This makes most parts of the game indistinguishable from each other, as well as boring to look at.

This also makes the few and far between underwater sections a treat, as all the action comes to a grinding halt, and you explore this bright blue haven, with pretty yellows, reds and purples. Even when the water floods the indoors, it is still prettier to look at than the world we walk on.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2178828669

Graphics & Soundtrack

Bioshock 2 has aged rather well, but not superbly. Graphically it looks fine, but as mentioned earlier it suffers from its rather dull colour scheme. The game looks really great all these years later. It definitely shows its age, especially when large amounts of water are involved. But the game has such an immersive and attractive artstyle that I never found myself caring all too much.

The soundtrack is a joy to listen to as always. Dramatic violins and double bass will scare you into the experience, coupled with the novelty of some early 50’s songs means you will always be truly immersed in the world of Bioshock 2.

Performance & Bugs

The game runs smoothly, both on the original and the remaster. However, both are prone to crashing. Quick saving and loading deleted all my saves once, and sometimes even manual saving will give up and refuse to work. This is not handy in a game that likes to crash every time you encounter a new zone or enemy.

Final Score & Comments

Bioshock 2 is a good sequel. It takes the base of the first game and builds atop it. It takes care when creating the next chapter of Rapture’s story. And ultimately, it is fun.
However the story cannot hold a candle to its predecessor, whether it’s because the mystery is gone, or the game relies on emotion more than fear, I don’t know.
I’d give Bioshock 2 an 8/10, it’s worth playing and is a good successor to the first game, but can’t grab players as well as the first game did.

While this game is a bit shorter than the original and the narrative isn't as strong I really can't say that 1 is better than 2 or the other way around. 1 excels at world building and excellent narrative and 2 brings the gameplay to the next level and the new weapons are tons of fun to use. I really enjoyed Bioshock 2 and I can easily say it's one of my favorites. I'm actually mad I didn't check it out until now because it's just so good. Not only that but playing as a Big Daddy is just such a cool concept to me and some of the new environments found in this game are just so pretty to me. Not to mention I really liked the under water sections in between levels. Overall I would say this is a must play for anybody who just likes games in general.

Its decent but not outstanding, the required time can be invested better elsewhere.
Some of the strongest enemies the game has to offer you fight within the first 10% of the game. You do spend most of your life and ammo taking them down and thats the peak of the challenge only going downhill from there. You keep getting stronger while the enemies only scale in numbers so everything becomes a huge grind.

:) Satisfying variety of guns and skills
:| There is an attempt at storytelling, but most of it is forgettable gibberish and way too long
:( The whole big daddy / little sister stuff is weird
:< Enemies spawning right behind you, in an empty, hermetically sealed room that you just searched

Good game but its susceptible to crashing. Crashing to desktop means that it wipes (yes, deletes) all saved games. This is an issue that has been reported in forums since 2016* and not fixed. The issue just happened to me- 20 h logged in the game. manual saves, quick saves and auto saves are gone. Crashes cannot be predicted and have not been fixed. This is pretty much game breaking. The only recommendation if you want to play the game, is to copy the save files out of the folder and into a separate folder, each time you save the game. Severely disappointed that such a game breaking bug has been in the game for 4 years so far, and no word on fixing it.

The unnecessarily underrated addition to the BioShock story, I enjoyed this playthrough immensely. Yes, the story is not quite as strong or surprising as the original game, but the voice acting is phenomenal and it really does fill out the Rapture world and events. The new areas are awesome, and the new combat styles are super fun. By the end of the game, I was pretty much only using drill slam, rocket spears, heat-seeking RPGs, and phosphorus buckshot. The combat is very satisfying, but the world is fun to explore too and see how many traps you can set up while your Little Sisters are gathering.

And the game avoids BioShock's one misstep. I found the battle against Fontaine at the end of BioShock both inconsistently over-the-top and not particularly interesting - I beat him the first attempt. I dislike games having some ur-boss at the end. So I was glad that Sofia Lamb is not the final boss. Instead, the game ends with an awesome, chaotic, deathmatch style free-for-all (Prey 2017, take note, this should have been you).

There is no good reason to not play this if you liked BioShock. It is significantly shorter in my experience; BioShock took me about 30 hours, wheres BioShock 2 took me only about 20. But I enjoyed every minute. I also think it's worth getting on Steam, as this is the only venue that carries Minerva's Den anymore.

Bioshock is a really immersive game, you really get hooked in the story and I have played it many many times now. The narrative will make you feel many emotions, from guilt to sadness. The writers succeeded if their goal was to create one of the most iconic stories ever written in the video game industry. You can't deny the genius behind that game, especially when you realize it hold a deeper meaning and that all 3 games of the saga are related through abstract and logical concepts.

Fun experience. I decided to play the original over the remaster even though the original is a decade old due to the pretty bad reviews I saw for the remaster. The original looks dated now, but the aesthetic is still the rapture everyone knows and loves. I think the combat is somewhat dated now. We now live in the era of hero shooters which emphasize fast movement and combat, and even bioshock infinite subscribes to that playstyle to an extent, it is a much more run and gun game than this. But in this game you feel slow and unwieldy. Obviously because you are a big daddy so it makes sense, but still wasn't the most fun I had compared to other shooters

I feel like this game gets a lot of flak and I cannot for the life of me understand why. BioShock 2 has everything that was great about the original: creepy/grim atmosphere, gripping story, combat is extremely satisfying and challenging, and while its so similar to the original BioShock it manages to feel so so different. Nothing feels better in this game than the beautiful cycle of beating the shit out of another unsuspecting big daddy, kidnapping his little sister, and using her to get ahead in the cruel yet familiar underwater hellscape that everyone loves so much.

Less than an hour in, I'm at an early scene where Lamb discovers I'm alive.
The game will not stop crashing at this one spot.

I'm not even playing the (notoriously buggy) Remastered ed. Just playing the vanilla original.
Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB RAM, GTX 1070 Ti, Win 10, blah blah blah.

Update:
After 4.5 hours of gameplay, this game has averaged a crash every 10 minutes or so.
It's at the point where I will save multiple times in each room/small area just because I know a quit to desktop is coming. Trying to reach one objective now (just walking across a few rooms and hallways) and the game has crashed 6 times. This will likely be where my Bioshock 2 time ends.

Absolute garbage.

An amazing game that I've played dozens of times... on my Xbox. Why? Because the PC version suffers from random crashes, many of the saved game breaking variety. Do *not* purchase Bioshock 1 or 2 or their remastered versions. If you are craving a Bioshock fix, you can buy the latest one: Infinite, since that one is actually playable. But it's my least favorite of the three by far.

Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. You are the very first Big Daddy as you travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and your own survival. Multiplayer in BioShock 2 provides a rich prequel experience that expands the BioShock gameplay. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of Plasmid test subject in the underwater city that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the game's toolset to survive as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture.

This game gets flak because the themes and story in this game are more shallow than its predecessor. That's definitely a valid point of criticism, but surpassing Bioshock in those departments is a ridiculously tall order. The other aspects of this game, however, are even better than the first game. There have been meaningful gameplay improvements (WAY BETTER HACKING. Combat is better too). You can kill and spare certain characters, which impacts the story and ending; I'm personally a fan of this mechanic. Making your way through a rapture that's crumbling after Andrew Ryan [spoiler] Got a 9 iron put through his head [/spoiler] is a blast. If you liked the first game, you'll enjoy this one. Definitely play the first one first though.

An impressive sequel since it takes the incredible world of the first game, and really has had time change it. The gameplay updates add a lot to trying out new things and becoming part of the world in ways the first didn't as well.

Beware this publisher! 2K recently removed all of their games from GeForce NOW cloud gaming service. By doing that basically they claim they have the right to decide where you can play game that you OWN. They created dangerous precedence - today they tell you that you cannot play YOUR game on remote machine. Maybe tomorrow they will order that you cannot play your legal copy of the game on your own machine after hardware upgrade or on your own second computer. Control obsessed freaks. Avoid at all cost.

I know now why this is a cult classic for so many. Not only because of interesting story and philosophical subjects it touches upon but also because of innovative gameplay (at that time) mixed with some really strong and sometimes gruesome imagery. It is not a scary game but it definitely is at times disturbing. Huge variety of weapons, plasmids/superpowers and passive abilities makes the experience fun and exciting adding also a huge replay value.

If you like Shooters like Half-Life2 or Metro2033, and if you like horror where humans are drawn to madness in disastrous situations, then you should totally check out BioShock!
I really recommended this game.

When it comes to gameplay Bioshock 2 is an improvement across the board. You can dual wield plasmids and weapons, hacking is a much less annoying minigame, harvesting little sisters now has actual consequences, and the enemy variety has increased too.

The story and its presentation however is pretty bad. I wont go into the finer details but most of it is really dumb, by that I mean it takes many of the themes and story elements from the original and beats you over the head with them non stop. Remember how Andrew Ryan was a narcissistic prick? Well here is an entire museum level dedicated to his ego just to spell that out to you. Remember how Frank Fontane masqueraded as someone else? Dont worry the game reminds you. Another incredibly stupid aspect of the story is the entire plot, the impetus for the events is that you get your ass kicked and go into a coma because of how embarrassing it is. Plus the goal of the villain made absolutely no sense, her plan is to use adam to combine all the great minds of rapture into one girl(somehow) for.......something. It feels less like a story and more like bad fanfiction, none of it was engrossing or interesting for me which is disappointing because those things contributed a lot to the atmosphere of the original.

While it doesnt reach the same heights as the first game its still a fun FPS that is worth your time and has a very good dlc level if you want more. Nonsensical writing and fanservice aside Bioshock 2 is a very solid experience overall.

I LOVE this game. The first game was great but the gameplay and story in this one are infinitely better. Bioshock was hard to beat but in my opinion this is much better. The hacking is more fun, there are no more problems with ammo because a melee only build is possible and very powerful with the right tonics. The atmosphere and the look of the splicers is creepier and there are many more characters than the first game.

One of the all time classics. Spot on game play and story telling. Awesome big band era music adds to the already stellar atmosphere. Controls are tight and well thought out compared to the original. Even after all these years it still looks great to me. If you like these kind of games it is a must buy. 1010

Bioshock 2 is a wonderfully beautiful, yet haunting game, taking you further into the depths of the underwater city of Rapture. The game improves the combat system of its pedecessor and adds a handful of new additions to keep the gameplay feeling fresh. Though Bioshock 2 does not stray far from the same overarching path that Bioshock 1 had laid out, it is still an immersive, unique game that you won't want to put down. Bioshock 2 has easily won a place in my heart, and it is my favorite in the series. From fighting off Big Daddies and Big Sisters, gathering Adam, dicovering the world, and unraveling the new mysteries laid before you, Bioshock 2 delivers a gameplay experience that you'll be more than glad to have played.
