A Unique Melee System
Melee combat adds one last brutal option to the arsenal of choices players have at their disposal. Our melee system includes directional input, and we will be adding even more weapon choice to this feature as development continues. All of this adds to the realistic portrayal of World War 1 combat.
Massive Multiplayer Action
100 players at a time face off in 50v50 tactical combat, with an emphasis on methodical bolt action rifle combat and the brutal scale of action soldiers faced on the front lines of the Great War.
Tense & Chilling Trench Warfare

Spiel ist tod und sollte schnellstmöglich von Steam verschwinden bevor es weitere Käufe gibt.
Dieses Spiel ist nicht im Besitz einer Community. Habe ich so auch noch nicht erlebt.
Meine ersten Erfarungen sammelte ich kurz nach Release.... Es ist eine Early - Early Access Version zu dem Zeitpunkt gewesen. Die Framerate betrug im Regelfall 15 - 20 FPS.
Dadurch fing der PC an zu glühen. Kurzum - den Toaster bei Amazone hatte ich daraufhin storniert, da die Hitze des Rechners hierfür völlig reichte. Eier und Weißbrot schnell auf den gewünschten Zustand zu bekommen, war nun kein Problem mehr. Die betroffene Tapete rollte jedoch leider Gottes in Richtung Himmel da der Klebstoff schmolz. Der Feuerlöscher war beruhigenderweise in Griffweite.
Nach 10 Minuten Spielzeit nahm ich meine Umgebung nunmehr auch in stockenden Bildern wahr. Daraufhin wusste ich, das Problem kann nur unter Auslösung von Druck auf die Kombination von ALT und F4 behebt werden.
Leider war das nicht Ziel und Zweck des Spiels.
Greenlight sei Dank wird hier wirklich alles durchgewunken. Zu sehen war dies bei bereits etlichen anderen Spielen welche ich hier ungern aufzählen möchte. Dafür würde die maximale Anzahl an verwendbaren Zeichen einfach nicht reichen.

Melee Weapons has sometimes unlimited range (you can get killed even when the weapon didnt touch you)
Teamkillers
This is the worst. I dont even know if they get a penality. Especially with 30sec respawn as Squadlead it is highly annoying and frustrating if you get teamkilled.
Sitautions when i build up sandbags on a map were we are on the defense and i get melee teamkilled
later i got simply shot in the back
also people shoot you even when they stand in front of you for some seconds.
Happened also that i got teamkilled on respawn by people respawning.
And this was on official servers.
if teamkillers dont get a penalities this game will having big problems.

Relativ Teuer, wenig Content. wenige Spieler, zwar mehrere Server im Angebot aber Samstags mittags quasi Primetime grad mal round abound 60 Leute Online.
Überhaupt nicht Intuitiv, mit anderen Leuten ausprobiert, vergleichbare Ergebnisse und Fazit.
Das gewisse Spielmechaniken mit mir bekannten Spielen ( BF 1918, BF1, oder FH2 allgemein Shooter ala HLL oder PC oder BF2, mein Portfolio an dem ich dieses Spiel messe) nicht übereinstimmen ist perse nicht zu Kritisieren. Offensichtlich wird hier ein andere Ansatz gewählt. Doch wenn das Spiel , noch eine Chance haben möchte irgendwann sich eine Spielerschaft aufzubauen. Meine Meinung, muss das Definitv eingängiger sein und ein relativ niederschwelliegen Einstieg in das Gameplay ermöglichen.
Alles Subjektiv, bin jedenfalls entäuscht und kann das Spiel aktuell nicht weiterempfehlen. Einschränkung wäre, ein Sale Angebot für unter 15 Euro, selbst 20 oder wie in meinem Fall 30 Euro sind nicht gerechtfertigt für den vorhandenen Content.
Pro, Optik, Sound. versuch der einer Authentischen Atmosphäre ist durch aus gelungen.
Negativ. Gameplay, Preis, geringe Community.

There is ALWAYS at least 1 server with enough players so always playable online, recently available for only 2 dollars, so much more players should be coming in ...
- Graphically this game is similar level of 'Hell Let Loose' and 'Post Scriptum'
-community is very friendly and they do welcome new players :)
----> However the major advantage of this game - is that if you look around with google search youll be able to get a Steam copy for only 2 dollar (!!!) right now so i borderline FREE! (very famous website name is 3 letter, starts with G, im sure youll figure it out lol :D)
- Its a modern game , and is being supported and updated regularly
- Faster and closer re-spawns than 'hell let loose' and 'post scriptum' means more action and less waiting ! major plus if you tought those games are a bit slow
- Graphics and animations are better than 'post scriptum' and on pair with 'hell let loose'
- is one of best ww1 multyplayer games atm , second best being 'tannenberg' ...

Pros:
- Perfect movement physics
- Amazing gun-play
- Lots of different maps to enjoy
- They are updating the game, even despite there being little to no players
- LOTS of potential
- Devs that care about the community
Cons:
- In 2022, the game is dead, with only one server maxing at 40 players at peak times on a lucky day
- No game mode with bots to enjoy, at least until it gains a playerbase. A play-against-bots system would benefit this game hugely, but you'd need to actually put effort in to the bots and make them responsive. This would ensure people are still uping their playtime too!
- The price is WAY too high for a game with too little players, I would consider knocking it down (even just a little)
I hate to do this, but at the current moment I would have to not recommend this game. Simply because you will have nothing to do within the game. There's a training mode in which you can only learn the keybinds etc, there are no offline modes at all. However, supporting the devs for the great game/games they have made does go a long way. I pray that someday soon this game will share the same BIG playerbase that squad has.

Overall it's a good game and I recommend it. You get different weapons, equipment and clothes based on the time and location. So as an example you get complete shitty blue outfit for the french in 1914 which can be easily seen. But in 1918 the french are also shit with cyan outfit this time. Uhh wait let's take the german as an example. So you get no helmets in 1914 as the germans but in 1918 they literally become stormtoops with steelhelmets and light machine guns.
PS: pls add the Ottomans, how dare u not adding the ottomans in WW1 yet.

✔️Maps are spectacular.
✔️Combat fluctuates from calm and quiet, to outright Mayhem & it's fab.
✔️Audio is very decent, but doesn't really scare me (maybe it should?).

✔️The game modes are really engaging and anything could change in an instant.
✔️The current Playerbase are brilliantly helpful and encouraging for new players.

❌No Single player campaign (I feel this could boost player numbers? - but is HUGE Ask).

I’m just going to say it, this is a dead game.
Beyond The Wire was fun, I joined a server with 60 players, I was having fun, there was fantastic voice chat, and the action was great. It emphasizes how horrible World War 1 and the trench fighting there was, while still being enjoyable. This is a large combat game with up to fifty players per team.
The problem is those 60 players were EVERYONE playing this game right then. This game is barely breaking 100 max active players each day on Steam, and that’s accounting for the Humble Choice crowd. I have a feeling that this is going to slip back down to twenty to thirty active players before the month is out, and that is sad because it’s a mechanically solid and interesting game. It’s just going to struggle with the player base, and while the game was ok with 60, I think this is going to be rough with fewer players.
Don’t pIck this up. Maybe that makes this a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you get the bundle, give this game a shot just to see what the developers have on offer, but this player base is going to crater again soon, and I’m sad, but I can’t ignore how this story goes every single time.

Mainly because of the poor visual fidelity, by that I don't mean that the game is ugly, it just has serious visibility issues, things that are far away are grainy and hard to make out, even if it's a well-lit silhouette.
Enabling supersampling fixes this, but that should not be the case! Games many times less technologically advanced have managed dealing with issues like this, I don't like being forced to move my face up to the monitor (with minimum FOV set to 90 on a 2560x1440 monitor) to see what i'm shooting at if it's a player only 30m away.
If that technical flaw would be fixed, I'd consider it fun but playable.
Currently some of the mechanics are frustrating, if your position is overrun your weapons are immediately locked only allowing you to flee, this can cause situations where there's ample time to shoot back at an enemy yet you can't because of the zone loss mechanic, some more time or more clear indications when it's about to happen would be good.
Population count is kind of low, generally only 1 server is populated, with about 30 people on avg, though it does seem to dip lower, it's situated in Western Europe so players from other regions be warned that the ping can be not great.
There's a few more little things that could be made better, but I guess that's early access.
I wanna commend the team on the gritty and gorgeous experience, the weapon handling and the sound design. Definitely keep working at it, if you could fix that tiny visibility issue I'd give it a thumbs up and likely put in at least 100 hours or so!
I'll keep the comments open so I can amend this review if that ever gets fixed.

Joined the German side
Proceeded to shoot a few Frenchies with my Gewehr 98
Got shot and killed
Whilst trying to attach a bayonet to my weapon I accidentally put my gas mask on
I then accidentally took my bayonet out and then the Death Korps of Krieg took control of my body
I ran through the French trenches, cutting down the first Frenchie at unawares, another decided to brandish his own bayonet, he got cut down
I leave the trench and proceed to cut down another 4 Frenchies without them realising
Notice another two Frenchies, cut down the first one then keep trying to kill the other one for another 5 minutes as he's crawling on the floor, kill him in the end
Hide in a random house for a minute and then decide to leave as no one's coming
Got gunned down immediately
10/10 for the realism

MAJOR DOWNSIDE: Servers are usually dead, so spend $35 for a game you wont be able to play to its full capacity because there are 10 people playing on a server.
Developers need to include bots, because without them this game is dead.

Its biggest drawback at the moment, aside from the limited playerbase, is the fact that the game is currently suffering from a bit of an identity crisis. It's made on the same engine as Squad and Post Scriptum, and so a lot of mechanics from those games have carried over on to this one. However, the map design is too linear to properly facilitate Squad/PS gameplay. Squad and PS both have very wide and open maps, which results in teamwork and constant communication being a priority to win. Here, however, the maps are smaller - more in line with what you might see in Red Orchestra or Rising Storm 2. So, while teamplay is still important, I find that most players do not communicate as much. It doesn't feel as critical, since everyone more or less has the same idea of where they're supposed to go. Ultimately, this might alienate players coming in from Squad and PS, since the similarity to those titles is only skin-deep.
I also find the shooting in this game to be infuriating at times due to the amount of weapon sway. I've missed shots in this game that I would have had no business missing in any other game - from literally point-blank, in some cases. The devs have gone on record saying that the amount of weapon sway is intentional, to try to incentivize players to use the melee system. But the melee system, in its current state, just doesn't really feel all that viable, nor is it as in-depth as they would have you believe. I've heard people compare it to Mordhau, but in Mordhau you can swipe and stab from virtually any direction, as well as block from any direction, whereas in this game you can only attack from left or right, and there is only one block animation. There is also a lack of unique melee weapons in the game's current state, so I would love to see that expanded upon.
Overall though, as I said, this game has tremendous potential, and if you're a WW1 buff like me, or just a fan of realistic shooters in general, you owe it to yourself to at least try it out.
Edit: Also, the soundtrack is fantastic.

Game is good but because of that price and lack of content had a bad launch, player base is scattered and dismissed. One map in the next update is not going to fix this. The price of the game needs to be lowered.

The audio is immersive AF. Just like Squad, the weapon reports are realistic and the artillery makes your sphincter pucker. If anyone has played tarkov, you know volume, direction, and acoustics are super important when it comes to locating enemies.
Graphics are good. A game like this is normally about function first and form somewhere down the line. This game does a great job with graphics. From the explosions to the terrain, it is all well done. The only gripe I have is muzzle flash. It is relatively non-existent. FYI, I have my graphics settings on Epic.
Gunplay/ Meleeplay? is really, really fun! Popping smoke, hearing that whistle, jumping out of the trench, Immediately SWEATING from everywhere, jumping into an enemy trench, and meleeing the ever-living-crap out of the everyone is tons of fun. Most weapons are bolt action so accuracy is more important here. There are a few automatic or semiautomatic primary weapons systems but they dont work as well at distance. They are juicy in a trench or bunker though. If you get a couple of MGs and set up some intersecting fields of fire on a main avenue of approach, get ready for all the endorphins. Melee is awesome too. You run faster with your melee weapon out so you can really break some ankles out there while you are moving in for the kill. I was joking with some friends about going full Mordhau on people in this game. Go melee, receive more endorphins, rinse, repeat.
There are a limited amount of maps but they are great. The level of detail that has gone into them is on par with the Fallujah map in squad. They feel real, lived in, and low crawling has a greater advantage than it does on some Squad maps due to the rubble and foliage strewn about.
Communications are still vital but less so than Squad due to map size. Being out of position can be addressed pretty easily since the maps are a bit smaller. Think Skirmish maps on Squad.
Server counts are a tad small but I haven't had an issue getting into a server to play. I only have 23 hrs on record but again, no issues getting into a game. I will say that I experience some lag issues at times but i don't mind since the game is so good. I play on WiFi so maybe going wired would solve this but idk.
Overall, I'd give this game an 8/10 but it's EA so I'm sure it will only get better. Hell, I HATED (4/10) Squad when I first played it all those years ago. Now it's one of my go-to faves.

There were only four servers available all with 200+ ping and I kept getting booted.
Never had an issue with the servers on Squad so I don't know what's going on with this game.
Applied for a refund and may try purchasing again in the future.

I first started the game and was welcomed by great music. In my opinion it fits the game and WW1 astatic perfectly!
For my first multiplayer game I joined a random squad and spawned on the section leader. I spawned next to a half finished trench in what seemed a dark forest. I didn’t know where I was or what to do. After a short walk through the trench a man appeared on the ridge, his uniform clearly of the enemy, so in panic I shot and missed. He shot, and missed me. As I try to take my next shot I found out that after every shot I have to chamber the next bullet, so in even greater panic I hit the dirt. With a roar my enemy jumped in the trench and charged at me as he stabs me with his bayonet.
All goes black. I’m not dead. I’m bleeding out. Nearest teammate to help me is 43 meters away from me.
Here I am in my comfortable chair in a heated house in a peaceful nation and for a split second this game put me in a WW1 situation.
At the moment my PC hardware is not able to run all graphical settings on max settings. But the graphics do look great. And the sound is great as well, the music being the best.
At first I expected a slow gameplay, but I quickly noticed out this game is relatively fast passed and based on relatively close combat. This works great, making the bayonet and melee combat an effective tool in combat.
There are few servers, but as far as I could see there is always at least 1 full and one half full server (50vs50 and 25vs25).
You can play the game without joining a squad/section. Yet so far I see people in squads actually talk to each other and work together; enhancing the game- and team play.
Again, this is early access. The game does have some bugs. For example I noticed textures not loading for the first 10-20 seconds after joining a game, or body’s turning and spinning in weird ways or on one occasion a player being stuck outside of the map.

Intro
Beyond the wire is a classic FPS in that there is nothing new or especially exciting about its take on the formula. If you have ever played any kind of first-person shooters you will have a good grasp of the controls and mechanics of the game and should be able to jump right into the fun.
Looks
The game looks beautifully detailed and the graphics a crisp. There are some performance issues and at times dramatic fps drops. Some have reported on certain maps and under certain conditions, the drop in frames make the games unplayable. I have personally not experienced these game braking drops in fps but do get drops in performance under similar conditions. But one must bear in mind that the game is in early access.
Feels
This game feels amazing and the immersion is top-notch. When you huddle in a shell crater in the middle of no man's land, just hoping that the next shelling does not hit you and your teammate in the hole next to you is screaming for a medic after being mowed down by an MG. That stuff gets your heart pounding, you grip your mouse just that little bit tighter and ready yourself for the mad dash across the last bit of open ground and into the enemy trench, bayonet at the ready.
Community
The community is not big, but there are a couple of popular servers where one can expect some cueing, but nothing major or with excessive waiting times.
The community as a whole is friendly and a fun bunch, of course, you will find the occasional D-bag, TK’er and mic spammer, but it is not by any means a regular occurrence and mic spammers, you simply just mute.
Conclusion
The game is fun and engaging, with a friendly community and a handful of good active servers, where you can expect battles with 60 to 75+ players regularly. Yes, the game does have some bugs and is not overly well optimized at the moment, so one can expect drops in frame rates and the occasional weird behaviour of certain placeables.
As the game stands at the moment I’d give it a solid 7/10.

It's a SQUAD reskin, and the game is in a highly unfinished state, even for early access. It lacks many basic features and elements that the developers had in squad. There are also a lot of really weird inconveniences, like how grenades and gauze packs aren't refilled at ammo boxes, there are no mag checks, weapon magazine sizes aren't listed, on high FOVs binoculars are super zoomed out for some reason, you cannot use the bipods on LMGs, the rifles have an insane amount of sway (even when prone), holding your breath to steady your shots takes way too long, the rifles take too long to work the bolt, the front sights on rifles get really small on higher FOVs, your character has almost no stamina (I could run further and I'm a fucking asthmatic) etc, etc. The game is also very unfinished, many interior bunker areas are literally just fullbright boxes with no decor or lights. There are lots of bugs as well, like how the bipod on the chauchat has jigglebones, but they're rigged weird so they swing around like they were attached with strings, weird issues when entering artillery cannons where the prompt to exit stays onscreen even when already out of the cannon, really bad texture pop-in (Yes, my settings are on high). The map design is a major gripe too, they took the BF1 approach of not really having many maps with large continuous trench systems, instead it's towns and fields, but the pace of combat doesn't work with those layouts. There's also a lot of stuff that just seems redundant. For example you have a Mordhau style melee system, except overall worse. Just make the swings follow a set pattern, what does that add to the game? The game seems really confused about it's pace of combat as well, it uses a format similar to squad, with long range engagements, but this game is close range only. The accuracy of the guns don't help, they sway like hell, and there's no weapon rest system like RS2. Generally this game needs to have a reason to keep me playing, even in Verdun where I have nothing to really unlock or work towards, seeng that little popup after a kill for 5 points still feels good. I'm not asking for hitmarkers or anything, but a RS2 style killfeed maybe.

So after searching for this game for a while. (for 2 weeks I couldn't remember the name of the game) I bought it and downloaded it.

Official Servers are ping locked
Now I'm from South Africa and there are no ZA servers so for us to play on EU servers our ping is normally
180-210 and I played for like 5min and then I was kicked. I tried different servers and in all of them, I got kicked for my ping.
Team Mates in Squads kicking you after asking if you have a mic and not giving you time to respond and then just kick you (in my opinion that is a D move) I'm a new player to the game I learn as I play I don't go study the controls like I'm learning for an exam and yes I know these types of games are HARDCORE Comms based.
Overall I found the game very nice the little bit I could play and will probably purchase it when there is either servers for us here in ZA or they remove the ping lock from the EU servers.

Pro:
+ the gunplay is really good and hitting someone is really satisfying
+ The game looks good
+ explosions sound awesome
+ fast action, no running sim
Con (why I gave it a thubs down):
- performance is bad (low fps, my system: 5700xt, 3600x, 16gb 3200 mhz ram)
- as expected in early access there are plenty of glitches and bugs
- THE PRICE. (I know you get all the future content, but you don't get your moneys worth right now!)
- the breathing after running is insanely annoying
- a lot of stuff on the map where you get stuck on (e.g. branches on the floor)
- plenty of reused animations from squad
To sum it up: You don't get enough to justify the comparably high price tag. Wait for a sale!

You did not like Battlefield 1 for having a disproportional amount of automatic weapons or you disliked Verdun for its horrendous gunplay and movement? Then get 'Beyond The Wire' - it's loaded with action (no stalemate trench to trench assault-type of action), it has an interesting melee system and it just feels like WW1. It basically combines every good aspect of those two other WW1 titles.
It might have only 3 maps (Paesschendale, Frise, Argonne Forrest) and 3 factions (Germany, France, USA) currently, but there's more to come - including the British Expeditionary Force. 30€ / 35$ does sound a bit much, but it is worth it in my opinion - and if it is not in your perspective, then wait for a sale.
Edit: After reading a lot of reviews concerning optimisation issues, I wanted to remind that it is an Early Access-title. While it shouldn't be an excuse, it certainly is how development works - optimisation is usually the last step in the development cycle, as adding further content can always break even more stuff.
That said, it is unoptimised, but not unplayable; it's in a better state than Post Scriptum or HLL, when those released. 16GB RAM and 6GB VRAM is probably the recommended gold standard in this type of genre - you will be having a hard time with less, whether it's Squad, HLL, PS or BTW. If you are not sure about the performance on your rig, buy it, test it and refund it provided you don't get the expected performance you're content with.
I have an i7 4790k and a GTX1070 (so nothing too special) and I get around 50-60FPS with occasional FPS dips, so it's rather playable for me personally.
