Fantastisches Spiel, nur scheinbar hat der Steamport ein paar Probleme!

BGE wollte ich mir aus Nostalgiegründen jetzt nochmal hier bei Steam zulegen. Ich habe mich wirklich auf den Titel gefreut, der mir vor zig Jahren bereits mehrfach viel Freude gemacht hat. Nun war das Spielchen wieder mal für reichlich 'Lau' zu haben und ich habe zugegriffen.
Leider war es mir nicht möglich die Feinjustierung am Spiel vorzunehmen. Die Einstellungen ließen sich gar nicht öffnen und die Sprache lies sich nicht umstellen. Mit englischer Sprachausgabe hätte ich ja noch leben können, leider aber ist französisch die Standartsprachausgabe und darauf hatte ich mal gar keine Lust.
Selbst langes Suchen im Netz und viel Probieren hat keine Veränderung gebracht. Somit ging das Spielchen an Steam zurück. Schade.

Das Spiel selbst empfehle ich uneingeschränkt. Schade nur, dass ich es, unter Win11, nicht zufriedenstellend ausführen konnte.

Like Rayman 2 The Greate Escape i love this Game from MIchel Ancel. For me this is why Gaming is Art. Damn its so long ago i bought & played it on PC DVD (2004) when i played so many Games like Counter Strike Source, Warcraft 3, Call of Duty 1, Splinter Cell 1 & 2 Pandora Tomorrow & Nintendo Gamecube.

++ Story is still fine

+ Graphic is still okay (Aged better than Call of Duty 2, you only need to fix the FPS Drop but with Guide its easy)

+++ Sound is one of the Best for me EVER with Legend of Zelda Games & maybe Metroid Prime Trilogy/ Star Fox Dino Saurier Planet

+ many different stuff to do (4 Races, break the Records with Boosters, 3-4 Car-Thief-Chases), a lot of Animal to find & photograph, 88 Pearls (sometimes you get 3 or more in a row), a few Secrets to discover, a few sneaking passages, a few jump & doge passages.

-sadly very short game if you rush it you can do it in maybe 7 Hours

+ a few fine puzzles

I want a Remake or Remaster with Steam Achievements & 5 Trading Cards and more Conent to discover (more Islands, more hidden Animals)

I really hope you ENJOY this like me. Damn i need Time to replay Rayman 2 <3

Ein spiel meiner Kindheit und deshalb Biased Review
Ich liebe dieses Spiel. Charactere sind sympatisch, Gameplay ist spaßig, es gibt viel zu entdecken und die Story ist spannend. Grafik ist wie zu erwarten aber nicht hässlich. Grund solides spiel und ich kann es jedem empfehlen.
Der einzige Kritikpunkt ist eine Steam sache. Oberfläche, untertitel und Ton sind NUR in englisch verfügbar. Die CD version welche ich auch besitze hat mehrere sprachen. Sehr schade da ich die Deutsche version großartig finde. Ansonsten alles gut.

Beyond good & evil war früher eines meiner Lieblingsspiele & um ein Stück Kindheit wieder zu erleben habe ich mir das Spiel bei Steam geholt.

Zum Spiel an sich: Dies ist natürlich 1A von der Story her :)

Was ich nur doof finde ist, dass 1. Die Grafik echt schlecht war bevor ich einen Widescreen Fix installiert habe, da die ganze Zeit Pixel hin und her flimmerten.
2. finde ich es nicht gut, dass bei Steam steht, dass man die Sprache einstellen kann und das Spiel wenn man es auf normalem Wege startet, nur auf Englisch spielbar ist. Über Umwege in den SettingsApplication von Beyond Good & Evil kann man die Sprache einstellen. Allerdings muss man dann das Spiel auch von dort aus starten, damit er die Spracheinstellungen übernimmt.

Hätte ich vorher gewusst, wie kompliziert das ganze mit der Version auf Steam ist, hätte ich es mir wohl auf GOG geholt..
Vielleicht kommt ja dieses Jahr noch ein Update, womit das ganze gefixt wird

actually fuck you Ubisoft. Im not fucking going into my pc settings and hitting a million levers and buttons to magic this fucking game into working. If your reading this, dont give these greedy fucks money. This port is completely fucked and you need to jump through so many fucking hoops to get it to work. Emulate it on Gamecube or smth

I played this game on Dolphin since it has some issues on modern machines, though despite having no nostalgia of it to cloud my judgment I can say that if you can get past the technical limitations of its time Beyond is a very good game even to this day.

Unfortunately the sequel seems to be in development hell and might never see light of day, which is a huge shame because the characters are remarkably charming and I wouldn't mind seeing them again.

Fun, stealth-focused adventure game. Good environmental puzzles with little hand-holding. If you can handle the occasional poor camera control/angle, then it will be a good time.

The combat is very basic, so don't expect much there.

Before anything else, THE GAME IS NOT BAD. Far from it, Beyond Good & Evil is one of the best playstation 2 stealth and adventure experiences, far from being the top one, but is far enough. The problem is the steam version itself. If you want to play the game, buy it on uplay, or better yet, pirate it, Ubisoft isn't going to do the so called sequel anyway, is going to be cancelled for the second time, so your contribution is for pretty much nothing. I booted the game in 2015 and evrything worked just fine, the game settings application worked and I could set my game preferences, now the tool is no longer updated, so your game is going to be launched at the lowest resolution, without any preference at all, and on my case, the interface is English, default of course, but the audio language was in french.... WHY???? Broken game, 0/10.

Beyond Good and Evil is absolutely a great game. A piece of my childhood that holds up from the funny characters to the strange engaging story but don't buy it on here. if you manage to get it on a different platform or older console it is absolutely worth at least giving it a try. Unfortunately While the game is incredible the port on steam is absolutely trash. It suffers from terrible frame rates, input lags, freezing and full crashes barely running on a computer built for gaming even though it was originally put out for original Xbox console. Would defiantly recommend it to anyone just not on steam.

I enjoyed this game originally, but ubisoft allowed us to download a complete mess of a game, I cant even try and play this game because it runs in french, there are no options to change the language and the only way is to go through folders and mess with system files for the game itself. What a mess, of course ubisoft cant even port a 15 year old game properly

It takes some effort to get to work properly, and even then you'll come across weird bugs, but Beyond good and evil is really good. Although, I do wish it was a bit longer.

What a bad port of a good game.

Find another way to play it, but please do play it. It's worth it.

But it's going to ruin your experience to see important game cutscenes stuttering graphics and breaking character models in ways that take up 90% of the screen.

This game should be downvoted on Steam, because it's so broken on Steam... Game performance on GOG is like 10 time better and less buggy. It's hard to stay loyal with Steam when 90% of their old products barely works, but I wouldn't put entirely blame on Valve/Steam for that.

I have recentely quit up on Dota 2 and decided to play some games I own... Magicka, Old Tomb Raiders, Arcania, Witcher 1, Day of Defeat 1, Dark Messiah... All of them I have played decade ago NO PROBLEMO and now all of them have some issues or bugs.

Now another classic game in the bin on Steam, because Steam/Valve and Game Publishers are on bad terms or lazy AF.

EDIT:

I don't need to download or fix anything, where there is another way to obtain working version of game in same price on different platform. This is not the only game on Steam that needs manual tweaking by customer.

I will do that only if there is no other option, but thanks anyway for the tips from the community.

Open world. Races. Mini-games. Collectibles. Stealth. Action. Puzzle. Story. What else is there?

This game was way ahead of its time. This was back when Ubisoft made INTERESTING and creative games. Yes, most of us prositive reviewers have that nostalgic background, and most of the people who haven't played it before probably wouldn't enjoy it that much. BUT, we all can admit that it had an impact on all off us, and it has it's reasons.
The story is unique, in a way it is Star Wars-like with this misterious force, being part of a rebel party and acting like a choosen one on a planet where multiple humanoid species live. I won't tell you anything more. See for yourself, great story.

I've played trough it plenty of times in my life, before I bought it on Steam. It reveals something new all the time, dramatic parts got me every time, I found new secrets every time. Absolutely love this game, and it IS my favourite, probably of ALL TIME.

Beyond good and evil - это классическое игровое приключение, сделанное с душой, во времена когда у юбисофта еще была душа... Я играл в beyond good and evil в 2021 году впервые, и ей все равно удалось очаровать меня до глубины души. Хотя, как и со всеми старыми играми, над ней пришлось поколдовать, прежде чем запустить ее в нормальном разрешении и фпсе, все же по сравнению с многими играми это было довольно легко. (не слушайте тех, кто что-то пишет про порты и подобные глупости, это вам не инсёрдженси)

Начну с лучшего. Больше всего меня поразил чудесный и разнообразный мир игры, в который действительно было вложено много идей, воображения и души: интересные футуристичные технологии, диковинные прикольные создания, забавные персонажи и крутые, разные локации, одним словом мир просто здоровский.

Сюжет в игре довольно прост: главная героиня, Джейд, репортерша, подрабатывающая фотографом, знаток боевых искусств пытается разоблачить величайший заговор в мире, в чём ей помогут отважный хрюндель дядя Пейдж и бравый боец Дабл Эйч, да вот в прицнипе..и всё. Но на самом деле большего и не нужно. Со временем, сюжет конечно превращается в фаренгейтщину и выясняется, что [spoiler]есть какая-то злая сила, уничтожающая все на своем пути, пожирающая души, а [strike]Нео[/strike] Джейд, вообще избранная и вообщем...да[/spoiler], но даже это лаконично вписано в повествование игры и даже хочется сказать... круто придумали.

Beyond good and evil - это все же стелс приключение, поэтому геймплей условно делится на 3 части:
-Сама боевка в игре довольно проста: есть удар и есть уклон, пожалуй все, ну разве что потом еще стрелять можно из перчатки, не репульсор, но почти что как Тони Старк. Но тем не менее сражения выглядят эффектно, за счет клевых анимаций. Какое-то время правда враги будут непобедимы, и побить их по башке не будет решением проблемы, придется буквально заталкивать их в смертельные ловушки.
-Иногда попадутся ситуации, когда сил Джейд не будет хватать и конечно же тут подключается стелс-модуль. Стелс простенький, но не бесячий, как во многих новых играх, тут достаточно пригнуться и проползти нужным маршрутом меж всех злодеев.
-Ну и собственно когда ты не дерешься и не стелсишь, ты просто исследуешь всякие фабрики, заводы и прочие гнусные злодейские места, в поисках улик.
Еще одной важной частью игры являются поездки на ховеркрафте, судне, которое по большей части используется чтобы доехать в ту или иную локацию, однако на нем можно и вдоволь постреляться, и погоняться и, получив апгрейд, напрыгаться.

Поскольку Джейд - репортер, одно из ее главных оружий - это [strike]посох, которым она мастерски дает по башке[/strike] камера, и с этим связана интересная механика игры. В игре полным полно редких животных, за фото которых можно получить неплохие деньги, а в последствие и редкие жемчужины, одна из главных валют игры. Очень необычно и круто придумано, прям понравилось.

В целом игра оставила много приятнейших впечатлений, но и неприятные тоже моменты были, вот некоторые отдельные вещи, которые я бы хотел выделить:
Из приятного.
-Шикарный саундтрек и атмосфера, которую он поддерживает. Песню из гаража Маммаго и двух носорогов-раст я не забуду долго.
-Реактивные сапоги Пейджа, которые поднимают его недостаточно высоко, чтобы лететь, но достаточно, чтобы он с треском приземлился и подкинул всех тварей в воздух.
-Реактивный разгон агента Дабл Эйч, который на бегу башкой снесет...да всё вообще.
-Все более нарастающей темп повествования, где мы начинаем на маленьком островке, а в конце...[spoiler]летим на луну[/spoiler], ну настоящее приключение.

Из не очень приятного.
-Ну это ж звездец, как этого блядского человека-акулу одолеть-то, с его дисками? Первый раз хоть как-то вышло, второй это ахуеть.
-Как и во всех играх такого типа, многие вещи не очень интуитивны и порой путаешься, да куда вообще ехать и что делать-то...

Из совсем уж неприятного.
Как я уже упомянул, одна из главных валют игры - жемжучины. И все бы ничего, соберете за боссов и даже за редкие фотосеты редких животных вы их не мало, но...недостаточно. Какой-то умник, холера, придумал, что для одной из последних миссий тебе вот нужно набрать реально дохерищу этих жемжучин и что...возвращаться по локациям и пытаться фармить их? Ужасно, мне пришлось воспользоваться хитростью, чтоб игру пройти. Ужасно.
-Финальный босс: делать босса сложным за счет того, что все твои кнопки вдруг инвертировались, это отдельный вид мазахизма.

За гранью добра и зла - очень здоровская, олдовая игра, которая несмотря на все, еще очень хороша в 2021. Рекомендую...да вообще всем.

This is a bad port and looks nothing like the screenshots they use on the store page. Its grainy as heck with people not being able to read the text. Its just a lazy bad port that the community has to fix themselves. Great game, bad company.

(as with most negative reviews for this game, this is a review of the game on Steam rather than the game in its platonic ideal state)
I remember when one of the main selling point of clients like Steam was that you could install a game easily without mucking about with things like downloading patches and messing with registry entries and still being unable to get the game audio to be in the same language as the text (or at least a language you know...) and reading 2-year-old forum posts about all the trouble other people have had with this.
Jesus christ. I'll just re-purchase it on GOG.

Beyond good and Evil is one of my favourite games of all time, but if you want to play it, DO NOT buy it off steam! its super buggy and laggy! Just get the gamecube rom and use dolphin emulator. It's a beautiful beautiful game that ive played a ton of times, but to reiterate DO NOT GET THE STEAM VERSION!

[Warning] No Ubisoft minigames were harmed during the making of this motion picture.

Like all Ubisoft games, even this one has the shell game (another mandatory-to-the-plot-100%-completion Ubisoft minigame, oh the horror).
This one is unique in that Jade makes money by taking photos of the animals on her home planet. She fights with a staff. She can also drive/race in her hovercraft. Gotta catch them all.

The end boss has reversed controls. Left means right. Right means left. Up means down. Don't forget to briefly charge your weapon when the final boss appears above you.

All in all, it was a great game when I played it in 2003. 10/10 would play it again, and 10/10 want to play its sequel, when/if it ever comes out.

The game only plays in French and I can't get it to change it to English and steam is no help in fixing this. Also there are graphical issues with the game. If you're not a computer person the ways to fix it are complicated and a lot of issues to deal with just to get this to work. Either try to get it for console or until they made an HD version (not likely) which sucks because I loved this game when it came out but it's mostly unplayable on steam.

Such an underrated game. Timeless classic in my opinion. I've known it since its release and had to finish it close to 5x. Beyond Good and Evil manages to mix comedy and drama. Sometimes you laugh, sometimes you cry. The characters are all charismatic. In short, Ubisoft was able to lay a small masterpiece that unfortunately did not make itself heard much, but those who got their hands on it, got nothing but pleasure.

Worst port i ever played.

- 20FPS
- 5 seconds of lag between image and sound during cutscenes
- locked in english
- wonderfull pixelized 640x480 resolution

It's not my role as the player to fix my game with mods or change things in the game's files to make it work. Better plug my Gamecube or just run a random emulator, can't be worse than this port ....
For one of my most favorite games it's really depressing to see such bullshit ports on Steam

This is a amazing game that made my childhood and I would recommend it to anyone...
But I would never recommend the Steam port, it is worse then the old PC port and even has features removed, despite it being the same port so they just removed it for no reason.
I spent over 40 minutes trying to modify the files to get the game into English as for some reason, the language selection screen, that is in all other releases of the game including the PC port from 2000 has been removed.
If you want to play this game then find a copy of the old PC port it is only $7 on ebay.

Ultimately the game is still as good as I remember it, the only thing breaking is the PC port being sort of abysmal. An absolute nightmare to get working today, but do check the Guides section in the Workshop.

Even with the fixes and the controller bindings, the aiming is an absolute mess (you need to reverse it) and it's still just using your stick as a mouse so it's very janky.

Play it on consoles if you can.

Never played it when it came out but It reminded me off the fun I had with my PS2, The port is bad so have to install some mods to work properly on modern day PC's.

The camera at times is not where you want it to be so have to fight with and the photo camera isn't designed to be used with controller as it's stiff and too sensitive when just flicking the joy stick. Combat is just button mashing, dodging and healing except for the final boss.

The soundtrack is captivating and I could listen to it for hours. It was annoying not having the option to skip cutscenes, especially when you die and have to repeat. Jade and Pey'js are some of the better characters I have enjoyed in a while and hope in the prequel, you get to see many of the cast returning.

Overall a good game that's hasn't aged too badly but gets hindered by the lazy PC port.

Unfortunately I can't speak on the game itself, because I couldn't get it to work properly. The FPS goes down to 5-16 on Windows 10. Check the system requirements, it's made for Windows 2000/XP *only*. There are several guides out there for fixing the low frame rate with an ENB mod, but when I install it the game won't start. Too bad.

This issue is exacerbated by the game design. You can only save at certain save points, and the very first save point is apparently some 30 minutes into the game. I wasn't able to get there yet. Unskippable cut scenes weren't helping either.

Man I enjoyed this game as a kid. I knew the replayability wasn't high from my experience back then, but after not playing the game in like 15 years I picked it up again on sale and replayed it. Still holds up very well after you install the 1920x1080 widescreen fix. Was not disappointed.

This is a really cool Game. I remember playing a demo of it many years ago on a friends PS2. I just finished playing through it on my PC and I'm glad I gave it a go. It's not hard to set up if you check out a guide to help you, and it's worth the effort to get it working in my opinion. It doesn't always run smoothly, especially if you want to run it on max graphics settings, but I think it's an interesting and original enough game to put up with a bit of occasional lag.

This is possibly one of the biggest gaming surprises I have ever had, I wasn't expecting much at the time and it completely blow me away with how well written it is, but most of all with all the heart and soul the devs have put into it.

Beware, the port its pretty bad, so expect issues with modern systems.

I had never played Beyond Good & Evil before and I always wanted to, since it is almost universally considered a cult classic and I wanted to find out why. I finally made up my mind and I must say the only thing I regret is not having played it way sooner.

Before I start, I have a quick warning to give to newcommers: the Steam version is a bit broken on Windows 10 and you will only run the game smoothly and without crashes via community patches. That’s not optimal since it’s Ubisoft who should fix that, but at least once you’ve done the patching you’re good to go. It’s a shame I couldn’t get to play it in my own language despite having full voiceover in the original release, but oh well, I could at least play it in English with subtitles.

Regarding the game itself, I was instantly in love with its charm. It is not a super deep game in any aspect and it does show its age, but the world it builds is extremely appealing and engaging. BG&E is one of those games that you can’t really compare to any other, it overflows with personality in every key element: the characters, the environments, the music, the story… everything is unique and it shows. I just finished it for the first time and I already feel that I’ve been living in its world for years and every character feels familiar in a weird, nostalgic way.

Gameplay-wise it is a very straight-forward game. The controls are easy to pick up and play, the platforming sections are very simple and the combat is barely a one-button-masher, but the complete mix is very entertaining and fun to play, and the plot makes it all work by carrying the weight of the experience. There are some additional minigames here and there and all of them spice up the experience a little bit, but they are not really that big of a deal.

All in all, BG&E might not be one of the bestest games I’ve ever played, but I definitely understand its appeal and it made me want more of its universe almost instantly. If you still haven’t played it I’d say give it a try, it’s a bit dated in some ways but it is still a very unique game in a world full of almost identical AAA releases.

i am beyond annoyed with this game AND STEAM -.- i LOVE THIS GAME! but i have youtubed videos to try and fix this problem and yet it persists ...... i wish we could just have simple language options for the game!!!!! i shouldnt have to be a computer person just to play a flippin game and go into files and registrys to simply change the language!!!!!!! i would recommend this game in heartbeat but DuRfInTlY NoT tHe StEaM vErSiOn!

If your nostalgia gets the better of you & you actually take the time to get it to work on your PC (I sincerely hope you do), you'll enjoy a game of a time when Ubisoft made pretty good games without liberating watchtowers. The gameplay hasn't aged that well, but as mentioned before, nostalgia glasses make everything better. Or worse. Your call. You DO get to enjoy the soundtrack, perfect characters and interesting plot yet again. That is, if you get it to work without stuttering and in your language of choice. There's plenty of guides available on how to do these things.

I'm yearning for the day I'll be able to play the sequel. It's been in and out of production since 2007, so at this rate Half-Life 3 is more likely to release instead of BG&E2.

Terrible port, needs various patches and editing the registry to get this playing at an acceptable state.
Even with the fixes the camera rotates too fast when using a gamepad, lowering Mouse Sensitivity to 0 fixes that but when entering stealth sections the stick sensitivity comes to a crawl. Which means I either have to go into the menu and increase Mouse Sensitivity or live with it and use the stick click to change camera angle.
The game itself is like Starfox Adventure + Wind Waker.

You have to turn some settings off to get it to work properly, but once you do it's great. Great game, played it as a kid many times, the music is pretty, it's unique and doesn't feel like most games these days. You follow a linear storyline in a small map, the main gameplay is stealth and action.

You're a reporter, you inflitrate bases of this galactic army known as the alpha section, who have put your world under military rule since an alien race started attacking your planet. You infiltrate their bases because all is not as it seems, and you have to take pictures of your findings as evidence.

There are also roughly 100 different animal species in the game that you can find, and take pictures of for money and pearls (to upgrade your hover craft) Oh yeah, you have a hover craft, it's mostly an ocean world, but don't worry if you have bathyphobia, the explorable water area is encircled with islands, so you never feel like you're going into the ocean :)

Listen, I loved this game as a kid, but this PC release is too broken.

Graphics don't load right, even after following guides and installing mods.

A lot of file management just to get this game to run with the correct language including tweaking registry values and system files.

I did get it to run and it worked perfectly for a good part of the game, but then it just stopped working.

Anyways, can't make full review because game is fun and enjoyable but functionally broken and if I don't have the patience to fix it then I guess neither do most people.

One of the best video game worlds ever. Amazing characters, simple but fun gameplay reminiscent of both the Zelda and Metroid prime series (Zelda because of the combat and Prime because of the picture taking). Takin pictures and recording different species/objects in this game is very rewarding and fun in general, because you unlock various upgrades and items in doing so. What really does it for me in BGE are the characters, story and setting; Jade and Pey’j have great chemistry and work very well together. This is one of my favorite games of all time and I highly suggest you play it if you are into sci-fi Zelda-like games with great characters and a memorable world and setting.

Terrible port. This is easily one of the most buggy games I've ever played. I can't even consider it playable due to the sheer amount of bugs that stop you from progressing. Do NOT buy. It's also worth noting that, aside from the bugs and graphical glitches, the controls have aged only slightly better than milk. It's sad, the team that ported this to steam simply did not care at all.

What an incredible game Beyond Good And Evil is. It tells the tale of a young woman named Jade living on world where a series of seemingly random (to the public) events occur that terrorize the planet. After being victim to these events yourself you start discovering very sinister realities and truths that are hidden from the public in the news and you start asking what is really happening and going on. This game is a MUST play for every game out there, its story and characters to deep; not to mention the extreme relevancy of it all to today's world. Where almost nothing in the mainstream news is true anymore and people are being hoaxed into a more deluded reality day after day. Please play this game, it is so worth it.

I loved this game back in the day when it was on Gamecube. Only Skies of Arcadia or Bloody Roar: Primal Fury beat it out on the hours played. Imagine my joy when I heard it was being ported over to PC and able to purchase on Steam?

My joy quickly became disappointment. Once I eventually even got the game running, it kept on crashing. Not even in English as the primary language and you have to go through hoops to change it. Port runs like garbage. About the only good thing about it is that it DOESN'T require Uplay to be able to run it, because, lol, that's garbage enough as it is.

So, props all day for the game. Something Ubisoft actually did right. This shameful excuse for a port? Pathetic to the name. Here's hoping they don't screw up Beyond Good and Evil 2...but I doubt it. I'm sure it's going to be packed full of Uplay requirements so I won't even be playing it.

Game is a true master piece. I am frustrated that I slept on this series.

IF YOU BUY THIS GAME! Launch the settings configuration in the games file path and set everything to high or else the game will stutter like crazy and probably be in french. If you ever get a game is installed incorrectly error then you have to make changes to the games registry. There are plenty of guides on this but I'll go ahead and drop the solution here

Simply export the incorrect key to your desktop, correct it and run it from the desktop.

This is a pretty common issue and many threads are posted on the steam discussions page for this game. After utilizing this fix you should be getting a constant 60 FPS may struggle in some areas but there is an ENB someone uploaded to smooth out the experience.

I bought this on sale when I thought I'd never have my wii up and running ever again.
I'm so glad I was wrong. (wii+wiimote+wavebird+memcard+4AAbatteries+13yo plasma screen with zoom-wide that frames this title perfectly) This game is awesome (plus gamecube release includes the Spanish version which is overall awesome and makes Secundo sound much less cringey for me) but this PC port is awful. I'm glad that the game is good enough to have modders trying to fix the ****show you'll get from Steam.

EDIT: I changed my recommendation because it really doesn't take much tweaking to get it to look great but it's unfortunate that it looks disappointing out of the box.

After you get over the bump of getting it to run without audio desync and stuff, it will be an entertaining game experience from the start towards the end.

Clearly suffers from age with camera controls and from cut-down development in parts, but it only makes the shine dimmer by a small fraction.

Definitely recommended.

This Game is a Blast from the Past, it's a game from the Golden Era of gaming where games were Launched/Sold as a full game and not split into DLC or Expansions, although some had Expansions, nothing like DLC nowadays that sell us overpriced garbage we dont wont or need, gone are the good old Expansions from back in the day, which basically were like full fletched games, for Example F.E.A.R Extraction Point and Persues Mandate or the Awakening Expansion for Dragon Age Origins, these added a major amount of content to a game that nowadays is sold in a 1000 different DLC (What a Shame). OK, enough RAMBLING, Sorry.

Pros - Very Good Visuals for the time, Amazing characters and gameplay as well as story telling. Compelling story, Good open world with great locations and side activities to go through, like Races, Hidden areas you get access too later in game through other means, Collectables (pearls) you can obtain to then buy Upgrades for your Hovercraft/Space Ship, An Album full of species to take photos of to trade for credits (currency in game), amongst others. The world you inhabit is also Super Alive, there is never a stale looking location which is impressive no matter where you are, on the ocean or on land.

Cons - Main Issues are the lack of controller support on other platforms and poor controller support on steam in particular, forcing the player to have to launch the game in big picture mode to emulate the controller and overwrite the game's bad controller support, some performance issues like texture flickering, no widescreen support and poor performance, like low fps and freezes if the Settings aren't setup properly, because the game is a port from either the PS2 or the Nintendo Gamecube (I'm not sure). Also some Camare problems which are to be expected from games this old (17 Years Old Game as of this Review in 2020). Another nitpick is the last bossfight in particular the second phase of the bossfight, its not bad, just takes time to get used to.

To put it simple the game is very good indeed, i recommend this game to everyone who likes a good thrilling adventure.

Final Verdict 90% out of 100%.

After a looong time i give it a go again...but first steps were relatively hard, because it needed some heavy tinkering to get it properly running on Win10 e.g. reg keys needed to be edited to get the settings menue to work...
Valve would you kindly make an ever so small update to fix this...?

I really don't understand how it took this long for me to play this game, other than me not having a GameCube back in the day.

This game is a treasure, from the creatures, to the music, to the story.

The gameplay is great, although I did have some trouble with the stealth sections and the camera during some parts of the game, but that could be due to the controller that I had been using.

If you haven't already played this game and you're looking to experience some nostalgia of the good ol' games, I'd definitely give this one a shot.

A little warning in advance though: Try to apply some of the fixes for the framerates and widescreen problems you will probably experience whilst playing this game. Once applied, you'll have one of the best games to come out in the early 2000s.

As Jade, an investigative reporter and martial artist, you must work with your pig uncle Pey’j and a resistance movement to reveal a planet-wide alien conspiracy. You control jade from a third person perspective through various segments of combat, stealth, platforming, puzzles, racing and photography. The tone is rather light with the duo making jokes together but it knows when to take itself seriously, the unique soundtrack paired with the 2000s graphics style and the incredibly loveable characters create an enjoyable experience. A lot of love was put into this game and it shows, just please play this game.

This game is awesome, it just harbors so many memories to time past, i can even recall the smell of back then! Do not listen to people saying the game is unplayable due to glitches and bad port, it's easily fixed with a bunch of stuff.

First the Widescreen Fix: https://www.dropbox.com/s/teqkol23sf5k5jy/BGE%20widescreen%20fix.rar
(The one on PCGamingWiki is not up to date and doesn't work for texture flickering fix, use this one it's the latest version)

Extract on game folder and run the exe so it's set to 1920x1080@60.

Open d3d9 and set:
bPillarBox16to9=false (removes the black borders so it's a real 16:9 but subtitle will be eaten a little)
bBorderlessWindow=true (fixes the permanent black screen when alt-tabing)

Run SettingsApplication.exe so it matches the res and refresh rate, it's very important that the game stays capped at 60fps for proper audio sync and game speed.

On the advanced options tab, set Water, Flare and Shadows to max; Anti Aliasing should be kept to 0.

Then on the right side, enable Manual Compatibility Setting and tick Triple-buffering, SSE, HW Vertex Processing (very important for frame rate. It enables textures flickering but it is fixed by the widescreen fix), Mipmapping, and Fastflip.

Lastly, you need RTSS to cap the game at 60fps because it doesn't cap it with the game settings for some reason.

This is probably one of my favourite games of all time, and I highly recommend that anyone should play this game. But try to play the console ports/original over this one.

I can't in good conscious recommend this version. It is insufferable to play through with the amount of bugs and other graphical errors (I had to download fan patches to even get this game running properly). Also, there is no native gamepad support (which is pretty necessary for a game like this), and barely any in game options. This is a must play game in my opinion, but please avoid this version.

I love the game! But I am so sick of trying to fix the RECENT glitches! The audio and text language doesn't match and there is no way to fix it accept messing with the game files, which might not even work. You can't even adjust the graphics or select the language anymore.

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#215 out of 555)... it's time for Beyond Good and Evil.

Good game. A great game, even. This port? Complete garbage. No native gamepad support, godawful keyboard/mouse controls (which cannot be customized), no options menu to speak of, and no support for modern aspect ratios or screen resolutions. I hope you like 800x600, because that's all you get!

Apparently there's a slightly better PC out there if you buy directly from uPlay, just in case any of y'all were laboring under the delusion that Ubisoft isn't hot garbage.

Still, I mean, we're talking about Beyond Good & Evil, right? One of the best, most memorable action adventure games of the PS2 generation. So I still have to recommend you play the game, if you haven't already. Just... not this version. Obviously.

So: what to do? Well, there's an HD version available for the PS3 that will do a very pleasing 16:9 at 1080p, with full gamepad support of course, and even trophy support for the weirdos among us who like that sorta thing.

TLDR -- great game, shit port. Hard pass.

Ugly white flickering during whole game, boring cutscenes, broken and buggy. Don't buy that to decrease the waiting time until part 2 in 2020. Not worth the money any more today.

Had purchased this game a while ago and only played a few hours. Since then there was a patch that totally messed up the default language for many people. Tried using the Community Boards, Youtube Videos and registry edits and cannot get this game to play in the correct language.

This game just doesn't work properly. The default language setting is French, the settings application never starts up, and the game is jittery with out of sync audio.
