This visually stunning game is just right for you!
You can explore the sea with warm and dry feet and take a closer look at the beauty of marine life.
But where there is light there is also shade. The dark side of human civilisation and its impact on the ocean also shows up in the game, which makes it really realistic.
In addition, you unlock small documentaries that lead you deeper into the subject of the ocean and marine science.
As a marine biologist, I have a clear buy recommendation!
The pictures themselves convinced me.
I would happy for a continuing story.

Unfortunately, my expectations were way too high.
This game, even though the graphics and detailed animations of the sea life are great, disappointed me for being extremely short and without enough content to warrant the price of 16,79 €. I played five hours and the game is basically over. Sure, you can go diving afterwards and repeat the areas you were in previously to complete achievements for example but I just don’t think it gets any better. There could have been more dives for more story/background or even the opportunity to visit those cute baby turtles on land while hatching for more information and so on and so on. Countless possibilities were left out. Sure, the information which is given was nicely researched which makes the game itself authentic. But I personally can't help feeling that the experience of this game is not reflecting the passion the scientists in the videos are showing for the ocean and its life and why it has to be preserved.
I expected Beyond Blue to be a better looking and more adult version of the Endless Ocean games for Wii which I played for hour after hour as a kid and I absolutely loved it. I wish Beyond Blue was anywhere near that regarding length, biome diversity and story content. I’m sorry but I cannot recommend this game.
Deutsch

-gute Grafik
-gute Steuerung
-guter Sound & gute Musik
Negativ:
Refund

It’s short. I completed the game 100% in 7 hours, which involves scanning every creature in the game, but in that short time you get to see a lot of beautiful underwater life and take part in a beautiful story as well. Much like Firewatch, Beyond Blue doesn’t exactly end perfectly. Things are a bit murky, as is the water in which you plunge. But it works for me. Beyond Blue, while set in a not-so-distant future, tries to keep things as real as it can. And they do a great job.
In fact, Beyond Blue may be the best game I’ve ever played where the in-game story ties to a real-world message, and it’s one of immense importance. It’s not something like a life lesson like “believe in yourself” or “the power of friendship”, although fine messages in their own right, but it’s about the tangible and concrete benefits of a healthy and thriving ocean. Most of the dialogue surrounding the marine biology, and the heart-to-heart conversations between the characters feels real. Some of the interactions between the sister and the protagonist feel a bit awkward. But overall, the interactions sound good.
The game doesn’t play amazing. It’s just very simple swimming with a “sprint” key and a left and right click, but for an underwater game it controls fine. This is why I categorize this as a bit more of a “walking simulator” than the current tags would lead you to believe. For maybe the most direct comparison that people will understand, this game is even more of a walking simulator than ABZU, which had some light platforming kind of aspects with momentum and rings to hit as you swam. Beyond Blue doesn’t concern itself with that. It’s more about beautiful sights and visual/audible wonder as you are told the story.
Playing it is a good experience, though. And you can return to the areas in a level select after the game is over, because you will surely miss some of the cuter and more interesting animals during your initial playthrough. You can also look at the animals in a model viewer and see what some of their “behaviors” look like. It’s a nice add-on!
Another thing you can “play” is a series of original videos made concerning the oceans, marine biology, marine conservation, and other related topics. They’re beautifully made and really cool to see in a video game! I’ve never really experienced anything like that.
The soundtrack features half original score and half curated music. It’s soothing! I’m a huge fan of original scores so I kind of wish it didn’t have any licensed music, but the music they added in, specifically with how it plays while you’re in the hub adds a sense of realism to the game world.
There is only one group for whom I would I not recommend Beyond Blue, and that is people with intense fear of the deep sea, as some levels in the game would really trigger your fears or phobias because you can hardly even see any geography and are almost entirely surrounded by empty water in almost all directions.
Otherwise, Beyond Blue is a strong recommendation from me toward practically anybody, as I think anyone could use a relaxing game like this with a beautiful and important story to tell! It’s not the most engaging and exciting thing there, in fact almost none of it is “exciting”, but it was still pleasant and nice. I’m very happy I played.

The graphics are alright with some bugs and missing parts on the models. I don't know if anyone else have this bug but every Whale Shark has a missing eye. Some the fish look alright with some looking like toys. of course the human model isn't that great.
Gameplay....it's alright. not has great as ABZU or even Endless Ocean on the Wii. The movement is slow and even when you push the swim faster button it still fells slow.
Not a big fan of scanning every animal multiple times just to watch a animation of them turning.
Unlike Endless Ocean where the only thing you need to do is find the creature and later on you have a aquarium where you can see all the creatures from the massive Blue Whale to the Tiny Clown Fish.
Story. It's alright. There are some interesting things but they get unanswered or ignored. By the end of it I was asking it that's it?
I do like the baby Turtle part with one of the characters.
Over all this game is okay. It's not the New Endless Ocean game we're looking for and it's not as graphically impressive and
beautiful as ABZU.
Do I recommend it? Honestly it's up to you if you want it or not.
(God I hate that I have to recommend or not to post this. Why not have a maybe button for games that are in the mediocre area?)

If you came here for challenging gameplay or a long and daring adventure, this isn't for you.
If you came here for some hours with a nice, atmospheric soundtrack, good voice acting and beautiful underwater landscapes & animals, this could be for you. Also, you get to learn something about all the different animals.
Maybe wait for a sale because it really is a short game. I played about 6 hours and only because I went for 100% achievements. If you don't care for that, the game ends after about 4 hours.

But what you don't get in story you get is the actual game play. The graphic rendering of all the sea live is simply stunning. You get the opportunity to get close to sealife, even the sealife you wont ever be able to get close to in real live (
your squishy body wont like a decent into the depths of missions 5 and 6
).
And another point in favor of this game is that the animals are non threatening in this game, so you can watch the sharks and the whales all you like in this game, which is way more accurate than nearly every other simulation game I have ever played where sharks are in the game. In a survival game it makes sense that the wildlife is super aggressive like every animal is starving to death and you are the only eatable thing within miles. But a game like this with more natural behavior is a breath of fresh air to me, and has more educational value to be honest.
Which is a good point to explain that this game has actual a lot of educational value, I'm not the only biologist to review this game (and I have even seen some marine biologist in the comments) but beyond some far fetched reasoning in the storyline, (and some points of this story line is as far as I know currently researched, like the auditory disturbance mining a vent would have on different species and other problems with deep sea mining.) it is quite accurate in the description of the animals shown and also in their behavior.

Honestly, I am taken aback by how good this game is. Now maybe it's cause I already LOVE marine biology but this game was so relaxed and chill whilst also being informative in a completely none aggressive way.
I loved that they actively included plastic and rubbish in amongst the reefs to highlight that it is an issue without shoving it in your face. And that the way they got around explanations was the Medium of Live Streaming, which is a perfect tool for why these professional scientists would explain things in and easy to understand fashion.
I was so emotionally involved in the story that I teared up at several points (which is unlike me). Not only the main story line but also the side story line regarding personal situations that Mirai (the lead character) had on land.
The mini documentaries were a really nice optional way to break up game play, and with them only being a could of minutes long, they didn't feel like a chore to click play on.

This game scratches the itch I had for a game that was educational and touched on environmental issues, a very niche type of game that Beyond Blue delivered on perfectly. There's a 'theatre' that has interviews with marine biologists that you can watch which gives you more context on what is going on within the game which I recommend checking out, not only for the achievement but also to learn some more about what Beyond Blue is telling you.
If you love the ocean and want to enjoy an amazing atmosphere this is the game for you. While I found the story engaging I can understand those who did not, don't worry even when in areas where you have an objective you are completely free to swim around and enjoy the reef without the game nagging you to continue the story besides to unlock new areas.
This is not only a game, it's an experience.
Also I want to live in that sub that Mirai lives in please make that real

I enjoyed the game, all in all, but I'm left feeling almost cheated. I put 2.3 hours into this game and I completed the story-line and All I have left is achievement hunting by scanning various species. I understand that this game is trying desperately hard to be a real-world depiction of marine biology and Marine ecosystems, this is still a video game. One where I feel like 2.3 hours of gameplay isn't enough and where the climax of the story still feels like the building up to it.
This is a game that feels like it was created by marine biologists, but game developers. Great for realism, not so great for a consumer.
*Spoiler Alert*
I would have loved to have seen more in the way of painting the ominous nature of the open ocean, the mysteries of the deep. I would have liked to have seen longer story-lines with satisfying answers and endings. This game feels like it sets up some over-arching mystery as to why a healthy whale passed and what's going on with the miners, but it basically cuts there. I feel like this was supposed to be a set-up for something bigger, but it wasn't. Like someone quit halfway through. As a result I'm left feeling like i've been cheated out of a complete story and enough game-play time for my money's worth.

There's no unlocking, gathering, or building. Instead, the missions serve to further the plot: you play Mirai, who wants to follow a family of sperm whales (with a new baby!) and collect data on them. In your underwater habitat between missions you get phonecalls from André and Irina, whose technology you're testing and whose research you're furthering; and from your sister Ren, who is caring for your grandmother who has dementia.
The plot touches clumsily on the evils of underwater noise pollution and on the importance of family; I say 'clumsily' because these threads don't really get handled in a satisfying way. There's some tension between André and Irina, for example, that I never really understood nor saw resolved. And the gameplay is kind of clumsy as well, with fish that just, well, swim around; you're told when you've recorded various behaviors, but you never actually get to see the behaviors taking place (aside from a few in cutscenes).
All in all I'd say that the plot itself isn't memorable (aside from its educational aspect) and the gameplay is oversimplified (would be good for a kid or for somebody who just wants to swim with sharks without getting wet, but it lacks depth). So for those reasons I can't really recommend the game.
The one reason I *would* recommend the game, though, is that one of the characters is voiced by the late Mira Furlan, perhaps best known for her roles in 'Lost' and in 'Babylon 5'. All of the voice acting in this game is superb (given what they have to work with), but it's bittersweet to hear her in one of her last roles.

As other reviews point out, the 'story' is questionable (to put it politely). It's great that they've attempted to discuss serious themes like marine pollution, mining, and HABs, but the execution has much to be desired and quickly gets annoying. Fortunately, it is relatively easy to ignore this and once you unlock the free-dive mode after a few hours, you don't have to listen to it any more.
If you're looking for an engaging story or gameplay, look for something else. But if you're looking for the closest you can get to swimming in a reef without actually getting underwater, this is it. I loved it!

I had a ton of fun playing, I love these types of games and it was a real treat to see all the behind the scene videos and listen to whale calls. My favorite thing though, was that despite going into deep, deep sea there were no jump scares at all and nothing can attack or hurt you. I am wholeheartedly a coward and I freely admit that.
Beyond Blue is more than just a documentary though, there is real story going on and it really makes you wanna keep pushing forward further down into the heart of the ocean. I loved the voice acting, I didn’t experience any problems (Except, for some reason one fish was invisible. I found him on accident though.) and I wholeheartedly recommend Beyond Blue to literally anyone, even if this isn’t the genre they usually go for.

The 'gameplay' of going around and scanning everything is fine, not terribly interesting or bad. It gets bad once you have to zoom scan and use those atrocious controls. What really kills this game for me is that inbetween already short dives, you spend about 5-10 minutes just listening to characters you don't give two shits about talk. The story is unengaging and has little to do with what you do in the game, your conversation options don't appear to impact the story at all, and the story just seems to be there to keep you away from swimming around. The one redeeming factor is that you can skip all the dialogue by spamming 'f'.
Don't buy this game, 17 euros is FAR too much for what this is. If you can get it in a bundle or with some insane discount, it won't hurt to try as it's incredibly short.

Breathtaking game with a big problem.
I really enjoyed going through the game. I like the fact you can explore on your own, there is also a story and plenty of extra material so you can learn more about the ocean. The graphics are pretty awesome, the music and sound set the right tone to the entire atmosphere. Hell, there is even a mode where you can take a picture and edit it.
However, one thing that I cannot get over and it irritated me throughout the gameplay was the voice acting... It is the most annoying thing I have heard in a long time. And trust me it is terrible. It is like listening to teenage valley California girls talking about the most irrelevant stuff ever (although they talk about quite important issues in the actual game). After 2 hours I wanted to shoot myself in the head to not hear these voices ever again, luckily for me, the story line was about to end. I give the developers props for trying to make the story telling entertaining.
Overall, it is a great game worth your time and money. It consists of 30 achievements, some of which can be very time consuming, and counts towards game collector badge. Trading cards for this game this do not exist.

It's been many years since I’ve had the joy of playing Endless Ocean but from what I’ve played so far, Beyond Blue blows that game out of the water! The modern gameplay and graphics are beautiful! It's also great to not have to deal with forced motion controls, haha! I’m super excited (and a tad terrified) to start diving into the deeper and darker parts of the ocean to experience more of what this game has to offer.
Scanning marine life for more info is wonderful, fun, and relaxing. HOWEVER, I suffer from some bad motion sickness and the zoom in for scanning is a bit much for me while moving around. I would love to get a setting that drops the zoom in while scanning. I can only play this for about 30mins at a time before I have to step away. Besides that, I love this game and if you love Endless Ocean or Subnautica and want a more relaxed underwater experience, this game is for you!

It was short, but it was beautiful, plus you learn a ton from the ocean and the impact we can have on it as humans. The short Videos they added was full of information. Will free dive again soon.

The game goes by fast, I spent my entire afternoon playing it. Its educational, and a love letter to the ocean. If you're interested in that kind of thing, its worth it, even for the price.

It's an exploration science game really, made obvious by it's trailer and synopsis.
In that regards, here is what I liked about it:
1) The graphics are very smooth, the creatures on offer all look very good and the environments are nice and crisp. No performance issues either.
2) Swimming in the sea is very calming, I'm the kind of gamer that has spent hours playing No Man's Sky for simple reason - it's very relaxing to just mindlessly swim/fly somewhere with pretty background music.
3) As a science game, you get the chance to learn things about underwater creatures and unlockable documentaries allow you to get invested in the ocean.
However its not perfect and for me, as an exploration game i would want more.
1) Small selection of creatures. 47 animals on one map may be fine for some, but considering the ocean is one of the most densely populated areas in the world I would have expected more.
2) I would have liked for them to have more diving maps around the world, but at £15 its not much of a criticism, more of a suggestion as potential DLC.
3) The story isn't necessary. Too be honest, a game like this doesn't need a story. People playing this will have an understanding on what the game is, theyre not expecting heavy narrative decision making. They just wanna find fish. Taking the story out completely may have opened up more map options, and maybe customising suits or your sub.
Overall I liked it. After 5.5 hours I'm done. It's a pretty, fun little game that just lacks meat. I would be interested in potential DLC content because I would definitely dive back in. As it stands, there isn't much incentive to free dive continuously once you've discovered all the species. I would recommend it for anyone who loves the ocean.

Relaxing Multimedia Gaming Experience
A must play for casual gaming, on the surface Beyond Blue is an underwater exploration game. But, the story, the collections of fish, videos, and music and the immersion in the Science of the underwater research teams make the experience much more. The music is refreshing and full of energy as well.
The gameplay is entirely peaceful. No death, no survival, and no collecting of resources to progress is really required. Certain story objectives appear in each dive, and accomplishing those triggers the end of each dive. While doing those objectives, you swim around scanning all the fish for your collections. But, after completing all the dives, you will be able to free dive in every location at will to find all the fish you still need. So, it is really very relaxing.
I don't think the choice questions changed very much in the way of the story. I noticed that you could replay each conversation in the captains chair of the sub, and make different choices, potentially changing the story I suppose. But, I didn't try that out. In a way, this reminded me of the relaxing experience of collecting seashells as a child. But, it is enjoyable for gamers of all ages.
If you enjoy underwater exploration and casual games, then this is a great choice. Total play time depends on how much time you spend playing all the music tracks and videos, looking at the fish and their behaviors in your collection, and swimming around in the water. I spent about 12 hours in the game with all that. But, the achievements took about 10 hours.

I was enticed by the ocean and afraid of it in equal measure, fixated on that mesmerising blue-green sheen – sometimes serene, other times turbulent – that served as a veil separating the world below from our own. I loved the water. I loved to swim. I loved being in that fantastical world, so teeming with exotic beauty, strange life, and dangers both visible and hidden.
I still do; that childhood reverence has never left me. If anything, it’s only grown – in tandem with my understanding of the ocean as an essential element of our life here on Earth. And just like all those fantasy books of mine and the myriad threats their worlds faced, our ocean was under siege from threats of its own.
Only those threats? Each and every one was a consequence of human activity. I love the ocean, but apparently we as a species don’t love it enough.
So whenever a game like Beyond Blue pops up, I’m right there. The video-game is an ideal medium for ocean exploration, capable of creating the illusion of a vast expanse of blue and its uncharted depths and evoking feelings of utter isolation, which can be considered either peaceful or terrifying, depending on your inclinations.
For me, it’s often both.
Treasures of the Deep, released for PlayStation in 1997 by Black Ops Entertainment, was my first taste of such an experience. The game punished players for killing harmless wildlife, inducing a welcome level of respect for the ethereal environment you had the privilege of inhabiting. There was a baddie, too, whose actions were wholly detrimental to the ocean. Simon Black, I think his name was. Totally a baddie.
Conversely, I was also playing Tomb Raider II at the time, which in one inventive level dropped Lara 40 fathoms below the ocean surface, pitch black in every direction and surrounded by sharks. Wildlife was never kind to Lara, but can you blame them? She lays waste to every ecosystem she finds herself in.
The ocean game, then, was a system – or simulation – that could test our relationship to it, and the ways we might interact with its inhabitants, be that for good or ill. As the medium has moved forward we’ve seen some exemplary additions to the sub-genre, from the incredible Subnautica to the effervescent, damn near poetic ABZÛ.
Beyond Blue takes a different approach to the above titles, to varying levels of success.
Its development is associated with BBC Studios’ Blue Planet series and exploratory ocean initiative Ocean X, alongside a host of pioneering oceanographers and marine biologists who make an appearance in a series of unlockable mini-documentaries. Their inclusion elevates Beyond Blue into something of an educational simulation, the necessity of which couldn’t be more pressing as we hurtle heedlessly towards climate catastrophe. Bleak? Yep, and Beyond Blue knows it.
You play as Mirai, a young woman who unlike me followed through on her dream to become a marine biologist. Beyond Blue is a little way into the future and you’re investigating a pod of sperm whales – Mirai’s particular fascination – in a region in the Pacific. In your ears are your two colleagues, André and Irina, both specialists in their respective fields with their own scientific objectives they seek to accomplish during Mirai’s dives.
The presence of these characters and their in-level banter was one of my favourite aspect of the game. Scientist-types are a regular staple in the medium, but these guys are the real deal. Their authentic dialogue makes it feel as if you’re truly part of an expeditionary force driven by the benevolent passions of its members. You’re able to successfully follow the thread of the story being told, what’s at stake and why these dives – of which there are eight in total – matter by inculcating you into Mirai’s field of expertise.
So, what about the game bit, then? I think it's here Beyond Blue’s is at its weakest, although that feels unfair given the game’s openly simple (but never simplistic) intentions. It’s just that there’s actually very little to it in terms of engagement.
With each dive you’ll make your way to a buoy, identify the location of the sperm whales, glide effortlessly towards them – a sublime piece of animation – through a series of diverse biomes, and then scan the whales once you’ve found them. Sure, there’s plenty other aquatic lifeforms inhabiting the reefs and dark depths of the ocean floor, and swimming alongside them is pure joy, but that’s roughly it as far as the gameplay goes.
The mini-documentaries you unlock showcase a staggering variety of technological apparatus for studying the ocean, but I found myself wanting to see more of that in the game itself; as it is, it’s mostly alluded to in text from your colleagues. Similarly, I felt the documentation of the aquatic life you discover was way too thin, revealing little beyond their genus.
I'm also of the opinion that the game struggles to intertwine the two narratives it has in play. The central focus is the pod of sperm whales Mirai is tracking, which elicited all kinds of complex emotions in me – a reverence, melancholia, even a touch of love – and then there’s the interpersonal drama of Mirai’s colleagues and her sister, Ren. The friction between the two siblings is mostly fluff, adding little of value or interest.
If Ren was on the line during the inter-level sub breaks, I was invariably at risk of tuning out. It’s low-level, uninspired drama, and the writer in me wanted more. That’s a shame: the voice cast is impeccable.
Beyond Blue is not like Treasures of the Deep. There is no Simon Black. It's also not like Tomb Raider II (oh, really?). There are sharks – lots of ‘em – but they’ve no interest in taking a bite out of you. Lara was lost, trapped and afraid in the ocean depths, but Mirai is at home – a place she wants to be, as often as she can. It’s always the next dive.
To round off I’ll go with an anecdote. In one of the later missions, I was swimming through the twilight zone – beyond the reach of sunlight – investigating vents on behalf of Irina. We’d known something was wrong in the region for awhile, and we were trying to piece it together.
As I approached my goal, I swam into a spacious cavern, where just above me glided a sleeper shark. I didn’t have to panic; he was perfectly comfortable with my presence, so I relaxed, and we swam together, me towards the object of my study, he simply through his home. Soon enough we emerged from that tunnel, and before me lay debris from the deep-sea mining we’d suspected had been taking place.
And as my new friend glided on, disappearing into the perpetual dark it called home, I felt a pang of sadness and guilt, but he was gone before I could utter a meaningless, unintelligible apology. The problem was me and where I was from – that above world – but he wouldn’t know that.
I love the ocean. It’s why I’m able to be so shamelessly sentimental. But time is running out. Beyond Blue is far from the most sophisticated of ocean sims, but it’s worth the dive, if only for the reminder that there’s a great deal of beauty we can yet save, both for the extraordinary diversity of life beneath those waves, and for ourselves as well.

But iamma just write my thoughts.
beautiful.
playing this is almost like i'm actually free diving.
all the animations were so well done and it doesn't feel like the fish is just simply going circles.
every detail, every rock, every piece of weed feels real.
also, when i actually went on diving, i had this weird feeling when i look into the depth of the sea.
i feel terrified, like something is gonna come up and eat me.
but in this game, i don't have that feeling.
in general, I love this game.
But i wish there's more to it.
the story is great and all, but i'd want bigger maps to explore.
more stuff to do ingame.
also, the submarine was a nice touch, but there ain't much to do inside besides sitting in the chair and read message and play through dialogues.
Also, if u made a sub with that much detail, why not let us ride it and pick our locations to go?

As for the positive aspects of the game – there are quite a lot of them.
Firstly, the knowledge about the ocean you receive during playing #BeyondBlue game is amazing. There are some videos uploaded, which tell about the discovery of the #Pacific and show marvelous video pieces of #underwater wildlife. People, who worked on the discovery projects, also tell the players about their progress in these video interviews. It is very convenient that the videos become available only after passing particular missions, so you are not able to make a spoiler for yourself. It is obvious that the game has a lot of educational materials in it and you should definitely try it if you want to discover the ocean to yourself. ;)
Secondly, the whole game is based on the realistic exploration of the rich underwater flora and fauna. The graphic designers definitely did their best. It is very interesting to swim for the Marai character, who has cool gear, and scan objects, which surround you. There are plenty of different fish or animals, which don’t scare you, so you can enjoy their presence peacefully swimming around. As for the characters: as I got the game, they have their real life prototypes and they are shown to us in the videos (but I can be mistaken for sure).
Thirdly, the game brings up such a serious problem as the #pollution of the ocean. I personally think, that it is a really enormous problem of the world and humanity on the whole, and this is very appreciative that the game developers try to show this, using plastic litter left in particular parts of the bottom. A little spoiler alert: in the end of the game its creators give us the information on the #OceanX development and progress and offer the players to join this amazing and very useful project.
But nothing is perfect, so here are some negative things :
- For me particularly the translation is important, because I don’t know some of the words divers use, but the translation does not work properly all the time.
- It is a pity, that the territory of exploration is strictly limited and you can’t even peak out of the water. The range of the fish is impressive, but still, there are not so many of them.
- The whole story is quite short. I managed to pass it playing slowly and detecting everything and watching all the videos in only 4 hours. It would be better if it was longer or there was some of them.
- You can’t experience the #oceanlife for real, because nothing harms you at all.
- There are only three locations available to swim in. I guess, it would be better, if we had an opportunity to swim around the certain part of an ocean, rather than 3 small areas, right?
Whatever, I really recommend the game and believe, that the work of the developers won’t be to no purpose and many people will #getinvolved in cleaning the ocean to help it survive.

Beyond Blue... a game that is more like an interactive documentary
Great visuals, good ambiance with a selection of not-so-bad indie tunes while in the submarine, Beyond Blue offers you some limited exploration, where you go on a scanning spree for many different kind of fish and whales.
The game is very relaxing even though I was getting unnerved in the deep night swim... always got the phobia of what lurks down below...
The game is quite short and thankfully, I picked this game on a sale...
I don't intend to write an essay for Beyond Blue. I liked it even if it was short and I would hope if E-Line Media develops a sequel, add more variety of life down there and different sea beds... and heck, why not remove the restraints of the movements too?
RECOMMENDATION:
So here it is... I recommend this game for anyone interested in the marine life.

I'm about to try free-swim mode as I want to unlock all the info for the species, and as someone studying a Wildlife Conservation degree, this is a really interesting game. I just wish there was more to it! It really is a peaceful subnautica, so relaxing and it is lovely to swim about and see all the fish. Definitely get it on sale, but full price I think it needs more to it.
One thing I loved about the game was the insights, especially from Sylvia Earle! I think it'a a great touch to the game and really fun and interesting to watch those short clips and learn more about the ocean.

After finishing the first mission, you're loaded into your sub, and as the music started playing on the cute little 'jukebox', I started crying. I couldn't stop! Outside the windows of the sub, I see whales and schools of fish swimming by to the tunes of well selected music. Needless to say, I think I found the underwater game I was looking for.
The gameplay leaves little to be desired. What I do miss is to scan corals, or talking more about the trash you can find on the sea floor (maybe it comes into play later in the game?). The gameplay that is there, is relaxing, but still keeps you on your toes. Swimming alongside with a Sperm whale is simply breathtaking and amazing! I've only played about 1,5 hours but I've learned so much.
This game made me love the ocean even more, if that's even possible. It's vast and filled with life.

- Peaceful. There are no dangers. Explore, meet all manner of underwater life, swim with them and learn about them. Nothing's gonna bite you, promise!
- Beautiful. Heccin' gorgeous game, both in terms of visuals and audio!
- Touching. A story both personal and relatable, conveyed with great writing and amazing voice actors.
- Educational. Even though there are some sci-fi elements to the technologies used by the protagonist in order to explore this underwater world, several scientist advisors made sure the things we learn about the ocean, its biosystems and its inhabitants, are 100% accurate.
- And more! Partnered up with BBC and its Blue Planet II, this game also contains new real world documentary footage about the ocean and the people who explore it.
It's basically Subnautica, but on Earth, without crafting or danger, and with real world science all over it!
