BADLAND
DAWN OF THE VIEH
Wer nicht schnell genug flattert,
wird
sterben.
*flupp*
Okay, noch mal!

Rating: Great

The whole game takes place in a shipwreck on an unknown planet somewhere in the galaxy in the local forest, where your hero is one of the inhabitants of this magical place, a strange hairy creature.
But for some reason there is something wrong with the forest. And it is the main character who is trying to do something about it. But first he has to find out what's going on. Therefore, it must avoid all the pitfalls and fly through different environments. But on the way, there are obstacles waiting for him, who are trying to stop him. You will meet other inhabitants of the forest, flowers, trees, but also mechanical machines, who probably have nothing to do here.
The graphics work with silhouettes and only the background is colored. But it is very diverse, as you progress through the story, it changes color. You will come across incredible details, and the most important thing is the atmosphere, which is clearly appealing. This is complemented by perfect sounds and great music.
The levels are imaginative and often very difficult. Completing the later stage of the game with all the challenges is quite challenging and you will often lose your temper. 50%

Basically it is a grim reminder of my life in a post-capitalistic dystopian nightmare where I am the clones and the spikes is the drudgery of unending wage slavery..
Bring some friends and you can revel in the simulation of a society of 8 billion people trying to make themselves happy by standing on each other's shoulders and kicking each other's teeth in..
I like it!
The game that is, not my projected life..

looks amazing to play, this is what you think of it
in the very beginning, but the longer you play it,
it's just getting even more furstrating, and makes
you go crazy because you need to aim for one tiny pixel to
go through the damn maze...
I don't suggest people to buy this if they are looking for a story
or something relaxing to play... i don't like it that much to
spend hours on it on PC, i remember playing it few years back
on the phone just to amaze myself at work.. but even then i just
couldn't stand it for a longer period of time ...
i don't like it, and 10€ (at the time of writting) is just too much for it...
3/10

The gameplay is simplistic, but it's fun too.
A truly beautiful art style. It's just amazing.
It does get a bit boring after a short while.
And it also is quite slow paced at the core.
But overall: It's just a good game for sure.
I'm not sure if its worth the 10€ price tag.
However: During a sale it's totally worth it.
Kids can enjoy the 'easy' gameplay as well.
But then adults can enjoy it just as much.
There's also a local co-op feature in here.
And so... the parent can play with his kid.
I honestly do recommend trying this out.
Badland does deserve my positive review.

- Some levels are super dark when they aren't supposed to be. I thought they were intended to be that stupidly hard, but it turns out to be a bug which can be fixed by turning off HD Graphics.
- The game crashes randomly. This happened here and there until I got to the second to last level (38/40 on Day 2) and in that one, it crashes every time. It's not always the same place in that level, but generally near the end. I wanted the game, and I literally could not.

Imprecise controls are part of the point of the game, but the design and requirements of levels make it more frustrating than fun. Impassable checkpoints furthers this trouble.

I originally bought this game because I saw it featured as a mobile app in the Apple Store, and I decided to get it when it was 85% off. This game is a very casual one, and despite the dark premise, it's all to just give it that eerie-like, limbo effect when it's a relatively family friendly game, with no creepy elements whatsoever. It's more like a puzzle game than anything, where you're trying to reach the end where there's a portal-like wormhole to suck you through pipes (which you can hear by the metallic sounds), bringing you into the next level. Everything in the level serves a purpose, and it's up to you to figure out what that is. Sometimes you need to make sacrifices to progress in the level, and they are never in a grotesque fashion. Just the eyes of the creature start opening up wide as it's being swallowed into its doom by these life-essence sucking sticky spikes, or being ripped to pieces by grinders, or rolling boulders that are going after you (like in a classic booby trap scene) and possibly even get in your way.
This is a very casual game for if you just want to relax and you can't think of any other game to play at the moment that would otherwise be labor intensive and strenuous to the mind and body. Just a nice game that you can sit back and relax to that has very appealing aesthetics that you can play through and not feel a single bit of discomfort while playing, excluding the frustration that comes with the occasional not being able to pass the level, which I never really experienced for myself, and I believe those aren't the kinds of vibes you should be getting from this game.

Press Up Arrow: The Game
Don't get me wrong. I think BADLANDS is a really well crafted game. It's a precision game about leading a funny little critter through a series of obstacles mostly unharmed. You'll collect several power-ups that can alter your size, speed, rotation, etc so that you can traverse these works with lesser or greater peril.
But that's pretty much all you do: Press the up arrow rhythmically, sometimes the right arrow.
The game falls in the vicinity of the so called «Precision Platforming» genre, in which quick reflexes and mastery of tight controls are king. However, unlike other games in this neighborhood, this game is reduced to a single button press with little room for either alternative tactics, creative solutions and even consistent solutions (some physics-based obstacles don't behave the same from run to run)
The result, in my opinion, is a relatively boring game. It is extremely well done, including genre-standard features like good controls, quick (re-)loading, appropriate checkpoints and a decent number of levels to beat. But (and this is the whole point of this review) I don't find the game to be interesting to play. I don't think it's interesting to beat for the mastery of pressing a single button.
I do know, however, that this is a particular quirk of mine. There may be others for whom this kind of perfect performances and precision-based levels are indeed good features. If you're in that camp, you can do a lot worse than BADLANS. It's a game with gorgeous art, lots of levels, responsive controls and a high skill ceiling. But if you ask me whether I like it and recommend it to others, the answer is «no».

BADLAND is a dynamic game, but it provokes not complicated discussions about the eternal. About the problems that you have to face daily. You will notice the change of scenery, draw some parallels with the life path of a person, his growing up, acquired skills, ability to work in a team and so on. (a little philosophy, what about the eternal - I did not feel, but the comrades kept repeating and repeating about it)
It is possible that you will discover the second bottom in this game. But another situation is possible, which is much easier. In this scenario, BADLAND will appear before you a simple platformer, where you need to constantly monitor the hero, who in difficult levels dies every half minute, which is annoyingly annoying.
Getting used to the local mechanics comes very quickly. There are two points to keep in mind. Firstly, speed - everything here is arranged in such a way that without agile and quick manipulation of the black lump it will be difficult to advance further. One has only to hesitate - and you will be thrown to the last checkpoint. Well, and secondly, you need to remember what color bonuses are responsible for what. BADLAND asks to be careful, but not distracted, but contemplation of local beauties will be difficult. Despite their two-dimensionality and simplicity, they are fascinating.
A lot of mysteries, style and hidden subtext - this is what BADLAND represents...

You can play alone or with friends and there's tons of content, with new mechanics being introduced along the way (at first it's multiplying, shrinking and enlarging, but soon there's sticky powerups, speed boosts and slo-mo powerups,...).
The game looks amazing and the controls (I used an Xbox 360 controller) are flawless.
If you're looking for a party game for all ages, or just out to have some fun by yourself, I definitely recommend this game.
System requirements are very friendly too, it works on my 8 year old potato laptop.
Works perfectly on Linux (Ubuntu 16.04).

New mechanics are not explained nor hinted so you spend tens of times trying to get past some obstacle/trap and then you accidentally hit part of the backgrouund (black as everything else, no need to touch it) just next to respawn point to discover you can (and must) move it. So you try to move it but the weird game physics don't let you to do it predictably so you spend another tens of times to figure out what the creators of the game wanted you to do.
Traps appear out of nowhere and too fast so you have to know they are going to appear and adjust your movement beforehand (e.g. move low because sawblade just pops out of the top of the screen too fast to avoid it when flying middle to high).
I finished the first episode just to see if it gets any better but it does not.
Not worth even the 1 buck I paid for it.
