The story are good, gameplay also good, the OST are banger.
The multiplayer side of the game tbh are kinda meh.
There only 2 mode, Team Deathmatches and Battle Royale.
Bruh, even the psp have better multiplayer mode
PS. The dlc are tbh kinda expensive, so just buy it if it on sale or your favorite plane are on the list

You may have missed this release amidst the flurry of other releases. This is understandable. I forgive you. But if you did, you need to correct that mistake. You owe it to yourself, and you owe it to me.
Ace Combat has always been one of the greatest series in the medium. Ace Combat 3 will never be brought over to the West, and that's a pain I live with for the rest of my life. Ace Combat 4 brought a masterfully-made keen sadness to war for the first time I know of in any sort of flight game. Within so short a time we went from Gradius to philosophical reflection on the cruelty of war.
Ace Combat 5 was pretty good. The soundtrack is better than the game.
Ace Combat 0 may be the greatest video game of all time. And that's why you owe me. Because not enough people bought Ace Combat 0, or 6, and then we had to suffer in the dark, suffer in the grim despair of knowing that all we were ever going to get anymore was Assault Horizon and a cash grab online-only scam game.
This was the pit in which we happy few who got to enjoy this series in its prime were doomed to wallow in, right until Ace Combat 7 brought back most of what we wanted. Most of what was missing in life.
Ace Combat 7 is not the ultimate game of this series - that title is still held by 0, depending on your priorities. But it is a phenomenal portrayal of the foolishness of modern warfare, it is a stark analysis of the contrast between how nations portray themselves and how they truly are. It's a political drama whose focal characters kind of suck sometimes. But that's okay.
It's about the creeping advance on technology, and also a love letter to its own series in so many ways. Ace Combat 7 is the game we needed, and there needs to be an 8th game. I need you to understand that this game is really good, REALLY good. There's a lot of changes. The targeting ring from 0 is gone and I sorely miss its absence. There is ONE mission that sucks a ton. (Sandstorm....) And one of the POV characters I wanted off the screen whenever they were on the screen.
But that's the sum total downsides. So what are the upsides? What joy does this bring to your life? Why will you be better off for having played this?
The planes feel amazing. Cockpit view is as stellar as ever. The music is exactly what it should be. The scales of battles have never been larger, the AI is massively more competent than ever before (this game on Normal is sometimes harder than Ace Combat 0 was on Ace) and the story despite a handful of stumbling points remains a heartwrenching bitter tale of overcoming the worst parts of humanity. Of triumph in the face of despair.
You will not regret buying and playing this game. And you will join me in wanting a port of Ace Combat 0 to something more modern than the PS2 so you, too, can enjoy it for what it is: a masterpiece.
Ace Combat 7 is a 9/10 excellent game, and if I convince enough of you to buy it we might one day get another 12/10 like Zero. Join me in rejoicing at the glorious return of a series so many thought was dead and gone forever.

The multiplayer... Oh boy.
There is absolutely nothing to love about the multiplayer. It's simple and it's sort of unbalanced. Don't get me wrong, I have fun on the multiplayer every now and then. And if you put in enough time and effort you CAN be as good as the Su-37 guy who keeps one-shotting and out-maneuvering you. It took me like, what, 50 or so hours to get past that level. The point is, the multiplayer is just bad. Downright bad. But it CAN be fun, and I do have fun.
Do I recommend? Yes. Absolutely. But what I recommend even more is to wait for a sale. And who knows, maybe after playing this game you might get an itch to play the older games. My recommendation? Please play The Unsung War.

The game itself is also great too! I was worried the game would be boring considering it could've been just jet dog-fighting over and over, but the campaign missions are distinguishable, memorable, different and manage to stand out and be interesting to play in a genre I would say is quite limited by nature.
The controls are good, High-G stuff is a bit cheesy as there isn't much consequence apart from lack of speed
Enemy fighters scale very well and are challenging, though it's a bit unfair when they can perform *literally* impossible manouveres
Plenty of missions in the campaign too and the aircraft tree is fairly priced and offers good selections of weaponry & aircraft

Buy it on sale if its dirt cheap.

There should be a Base Assault multiplayer where 8-16 players would bomb each other's bases out. Surely, players would see lots of dogfighting and EML sniping as well, but bases with active AA defenses will surely test the players' skill and patience. If you can't do it in AC7, I hope the next installment does.

Long before I began this Impossible Quest of mine, I found myself compelled to review what was then the single most disappointing and, frankly, disheartening game I'd ever come across. I was in despair. That game was Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, and it was an abomination. Words cannot quite express how happy I am now, exactly five-hundred reviews later, to be here writing about Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. Where Assault Horizon represents the lowest point in Ace Combat's venerable history, Skies Unknown represents the series at its very best. I am, in a word, ecstatic.
For the uninitiated, the Ace Combat games are a series of arcade-style flight combat simulators that forego the usual tropes of the genre (realistic physics and correspondingly complex controls) in favor of simple, responsive and engaging mechanics. Learning how to fly in an Ace Combat game is the easiest thing in the world—and frenetic dogfighting combat is just as immediately accessible, though of course there are advanced tactics and techniques that will require practice and commitment to fully master. The gist of the game is simple: you're a one-man-army in a fighter plane loaded up with (literally) hundreds of missiles, and use your power to single-handedly direct the course of battles and entire wars. Replete with gorgeous visuals and some of the most invigorating music you're ever likely to hear.
(Please note that it is vitally important to use “expert controls” – the game is far less accessible, nevermind rewarding, otherwise.)
The most unique aspect of Ace Combat is the setting, known by fans as the strangereal world – it is a planet not unlike our own, only with different landmasses and nation-states. This setting allows the stories to be wildly ambitious without any tedious necessity of maintaining status quo to real-life. One of the key events in the recent history of Ace Combat, for example, is a nuclear world war fought in the mid-1990s. The strangely real setting also allows Ace Combat to integrate science fiction technologies, concepts and narrative tropes, all of which serve to make the storytelling just as dynamic and engaging as the gameplay. Skies Unknown offers perhaps the most ambitious and unwieldy of narratives in the series, told across three wildly different acts, as conflict erupts over disagreement regarding the use of an enormous space elevator. I won't spoil too much, save to say that partly due to Ace Combat 7's laser-focused mission design, the story is confusingly told, relying more on implication than exposition. To fully understand what's happening, you're going to need to read in-between the lines, so to speak, because you're not going to get the full picture of this war without due consideration.
That laser-focused mission design is Skies Unknown' greatest strength and biggest weakness. Essentially, every mission is built around a specific gimmick, or concept. From dueling aces in a thunderstorm, to flying through densely-packed radar fields undetected, to tracking ground convoys through a sandstorm. These missions are often challenging and, frankly, a delight to play through—and make almost every mission feel downright iconic—but this focus also decreases the quantity of missions available, thereby restricting the opportunities to fully develop the story. The result is a narrative that is almost (but not quite) incoherent. Had the developers thought to insert a few “padding” missions (perhaps generic furballs) to boost the mission count, it's very likely that this tale could've been much more compelling. As it stands, each of the three acts feels incredibly compressed, with almost all nonessential exposition and characterization totally absent.
Relative to other entries in the Ace Combat series, Skies Unknown represents an enormous leap forward in quality in most aspects. Combat has never been faster or more engaging, environments have never looked prettier, and physics have never been this complex—this new flight model adds some unpredictability to the game via weather effects and high wind conditions, but never to the point of distraction. Despite its shortcomings, I'd even say that the story Skies Unknown tells is one of the best in the series, second only to Ace Combat 5.
That said, there are still some important areas where Ace Combat 7 falls short compared to prior games. Most notably, the UI is too pale for the often very-bright environments, making readability in certain missions a significant concern. Further, several of the more nuanced mechanics of prior games are absent here, making the gameplay feel shallower than it ought to be. In Ace Combat 0, for example, enemy aircraft would withdraw from the airspace after taking damage; in Ace Combat 5, players could use the D-pad to respond to allies on the radio and issue orders to squad-members. This last omission is particularly conspicuous, as much like Ace Combat 5, Skies Unknown eventually puts the player in the role of squadron commander. You'd think that commanding a squadron would involve commanding your squadron, but not this time. Also disappointing is the relative lack of multiplayer modes: only deathmatch and team deathmatch. This seems an odd choice, as to me the core appeal of the series if the frenetic one-versus-many combat, which would be ideally suited for cooperative multiplayer. Ah well, maybe next time.
Ace Combat 7 is not a perfect game. But it is, however, very nearly perfect. And I say this with untempered delight: this is what an Ace Combat game looks like at its very best. This is the game we spent more than a decade waiting for. This is as close to a miracle as we're ever likely to see in this industry. Skies Unknown is quite literally a dream given form—an immediate classic.
Note: also played on Sony Playstation 4.

As for the game because that's what the reviews should REALLY be about:
---The cut scenes are really fun to watch and the plot in general feels like a movie. Aircraft detail and flight characteristics are unique. It has both a combination of arcade and simulator feel. On first flight, the game defaults to assistance with controls, that is, the aircraft won't roll and what not. So you can turn that off in the settings and get the full yaw, roll and pitch fully controlled by YOU.
---Graphics are breathtaking and the level of variety sets a new standard for flying games. I am so glad that AC still continues to be made. IT almost reminds me (if anyone remembers back in the late 90's the Jane's Combat Simulation games, USNF and ATF and all those through the realism and variety of aircraft).

Holy crap this game is expensive, but for the first 2 campaign playthroughs it will be the most fun you would have in your life. It starts to get stale after that, but if you stream it to your friends and accept the fact that it is an arcade flying game (is flight sim the correct terminology to use when you can pull 500G's?) you will get a laugh out of it. Multiplayer is something to avoid unless you're incredibly competitive though, there are people with effectively decades of experience and know the mechanics better than a physicist would know physics.
tl;dr: fun campaign, stale campaign, great for sharing with your friends, co-op campaign would make everything 1000% better but alas.

I wanted to play something different (the “closest” game I played before was Star Fox 64.. lol) and out of curiosity bought this game. I just loved it:
• it is very immersive and there are various epic moments
• all missions are somehow unique, original and require different approaches (I am glad that there was no copy and paste)
• the controls are very well made
• sometimes I needed various attempts on the default difficulty
• there are 3 types of aircrafts, which you can buy by following one of the 3 very long (but not linear) shop paths. By choosing and committing to one of the paths, you can modify your game experience. With no need to grind, towards the end of the game you will be able to buy the best aircraft of your chosen path
• all aircrafts can be customized with a limited amount of perks and you can only mount one special weapon at a time (each special weapon is best suited for specific cases and in some missions a correct choice is critical)
• after finishing the game, I replayed all missions to get at least A grade and to complete the equipment of my favourite aircrafts
• DLC missions are fun too
I was already happy with it, but there is also a multiplayer mode which I only played once (I found a few players online). If you really like this game you can probably double its longevity by playing online, especially with friends, or you can also unlock everything, play it at higher difficulties or speedrun the game.

Story might be kind of a turn-off to newcomers but it shouldn't provide an obstacle in this case. Series veterans should have a great time with it though, even if it's not as strongly written as the PS2 era games. Ridiculous amount of fan service too, if you're into that.
Gameplay is super-fast-paced and well varied, on par with the heights of the franchise. Music and visual design are of the highest calibre. Weather effects and clouds are some of the best I've seen and represent a true step forward for the franchise visually, but also bring with them interesting gameplay scenarios. The Yinshi Valley mission is an instant classic for this reason.
Very high replayability in revisiting missions to chase high-scores, play higher difficulties and explore different tactics and loadouts on new planes. DLC missions are excellent as well.
There's multiplayer too of course but thats not really my thing, so I can't comment on that too much.
I do have some minor irritations, such as the couple of scripted fights with plot-armoured enemies that can drag a bit on second or third or hundredth playthroughs, and the cost to unlock some of the end-game aircraft can feel like a bit of a grind at times.
Strongest recommendation all round. Whatever my play time is on here, know that there's probably 100+ hours more on PS4 as well at the time of writing. Truly a fantastic game.
One final word of advice to newcomers: Make sure you play with the expert control layout. It may be daunting at first however I strongly feel that the novice controls do the game a huge disservice in removing a lot of the excitement that comes from being able to fly around like an unhinged lunatic. Making ridiculous manoeuvres to chase mobile enemies, and flying upside-down just to fit a few more targets into a bombing run are some of the franchise's strongest assets, and the novice control scheme makes the game feel like a rail shooter in comparison. I would only recommend using the novice control layout as a true last resort if you've given the expert control layout a serious try and find it too difficult, but are still desperate to experience the story.

Not a simulator but it really makes you FEEL like an Ace once you get the basics down. The amazing soundtrack and how the music gets muffled when you fly through clouds only adds to the experience.
Play if you want to go verrr fast and kill things verrrrrrrrrrr fast.

This is a fun game, the plot's interesting and the planes are cool. Once I got playing I had a hard time stopping for the night. I'm preparing to do another play through of the game via new game plus and try some different aircraft and the advanced control system.
Long live the A-10C Thunderbolt II!

The game is good but are dragged down by some stupid level design gimmicks like the random lightning in m7/sandstorm in m8/missile clouds in m9, and the boss fights are really scripted. everything else is a 10/10.

Pros
+ You fly jets and go pew pew
+ Great graphics
+ Tons of replayability
+ Many types of aircraft to choose from
+ The type of parts and weapon loadouts you use actually matter
+ Missions are unique and pretty well designed
+ Great soundtrack
Cons
- Many secondary weapons are pointless to use
- Attacker/Bomber aircraft serve little to no purpose; Multirole/Air-Superiority aircraft are always better
- No Co-op
TL;DR
Fly in jets; feel like a badass. Ace Combat 7 is just honest to goodness fun.

I'd only recommend it if you meet the following criteria:
You like...
✅ Mindless action, above all
✅ Jet fighters
✅ Explosions
✅ Cool techno music
You don't mind...
❌ A very implausible story
❌ The most vapid characters you can imagine
❌ Terrible writing everywhere
❌ Zero realism

Just.
FANTASTIC.
You wanna dogfight the most badass fighter pilots in 4th generation jets, dodge literally dozens of missiles, and battle massive flying aircraft carriers with lasers and railguns all while hearing your AWACS guy complain about spilling his soda?
Then come dance with the angels.

Defects?: The lack of VR on the PC version is stupid and huge missed opportunity. And the game should be enjoyed in normal or even easy difficulty the first time. I have played every AC since AC 4 and this one is not TOO difficult but repeating the missions every time you die or fail (and that may happen A LOT in certain missions) breaks the rythm too much.

There's some very clever mission design here to spice up the traditional air fighter game. Many of the missions do make you feel like a superhero of the skies, with some challenge here and there. Then there are some missions that feel very much out of your league like fighting a chess computer at full strength when you don't understand checkers. I do have a minor gripe with some mission designs where after completing a main part of it, a second part of the mission enables, and you can't change your loadout or resupply your ammo.
The information for you to take in can get overwhelming at times, but I think it fits as a 'type 2' kind of fun. You'll be in a mission, being constantly locked on by missiles, having to dodge repeatedly, while a timer counts down before some calamity happens, while your wingmen and villians blast your radio channels. When you've succeeded, it really feels earned, but sometimes I wish I could mute my friendly pilots.
The soundtrack is great and really hits some good tones of wild cowboy gunning as well as epic opera battle music. The visuals are also stunning from the environments you're in. There's a ton of variety from ice buildups, stormy or dark weather, sunsets, and clear blue skies.
The DLC is quite good, if a bit more moustache-twirling. If haven't played an Ace Combat game in a million years like I have, give this one a try. But do be warned, there have been episodes of Dragon Ball Z with less anime than this game.

At first I'll repeat what has been said already in like a thousand other reviews: This is as much a flight sim as Burnout is a simracing game. Also, the HOTAS support is quite bad, basically you have to map your flightstick to a XBOX controller scheme in Steam, which is why I just used a controller instead. Once you gen in the game, there is a story with actual cutscenes, mostly clustered at the beginning and end of the campaign. However, a fair amount of the story is told in the missions itself which can make it a bit hard to follow while simultaneously dogfighting an enemy and trying to avoid planting your plane into the ground. The core gameplay of said missions mostly consists of shooting down some planes or blowing up some ground units but there are twists in most missions, so that does not get old too quickly. I took me about 10 hours to play through the campaign and there definetly is some replay value as you can freely choose the plane as well as the special weapon (inluding railguns and lasers) that you want to use for your mission. All of the planes look quite detailed, though they mostly handle the same (with an exception for the A10). The view from above and the weather effect also look quite nice.
So basically if you look for an arcady aircraft game with a bit of story, you will probably like this. If you look for a flightsim you will most likely not. I bought it on discount and would probably have not done that at full price but your opinion and/or available cash may vary.

Ace Combat 7 features cutscenes, briefings, and post-mission debriefings along with objectives that can change, be added, or be cancelled during the mission. Its similar to Freespace in that way, making the missions feel more like a developing situation than a video game level. Dialogue can be corny, but the characters are endearing. Their chatter during missions and in response to the player adds immersion. The story moves at a brisk pace and none of its 20 missions feel like repeats.

I'll say this for starters. I pre-ordered the deluxe version with all the DLC. That should tell you how much I like this game and how much I was expecting it in the 4 years since its first trailer.
The campaign is great and the story actually makes sense if you pay attention. The multiplayer is phenomenal because of its replayability. You have so many unlocks to earn, like emblems, skins, and nicknames that it's worth to put in the hours. Especially if you are a completionist. Furthermore it will test your dogfighting skills to their limits as the vast majority of the aces there are very capable and tough even more than a year after release. Some even use post-stall maneuvers to always be at your 6 o'clock.
The graphics are great, every plane is amazingly rendered down to its finest details. There are some low-res textures here and there, however all are fixable if you modify the settings using a guide in the community tab.
Where this game excels though is in its sound design and soundtracks. It's a shame it didn't win anything at the Game Awards. Gameplay is fantastic if you have a HOTAS, great if you play with a controller and surprisingly good if you can somehow play with keyboard and mouse.
That's all aces. If you like arcade flying games this is a must and if you are a fan of the series like me then it's highly unlikely that you don't have it already.

However, the story in Ace Combat 7 really doesn’t focus on our main character that much and instead, seems unrelated to the actions the player takes for much of the game. Eventually, the main character works into the story, but it’s poorly done. There’s also a huge problem with the story being a hero’s story where the main character is the only one who can do anything of value while flying?
The combat though is really solid and fun and there are some good missions and great battles. It’s better than Ace Combat Assault Horizon, but it’s Ace Combat which means it has a lack of realistic controls and a focus on lining up a shot rather than worrying about flying a plane. It is still fun if you want to try out the series.

The only heavy downsides i can think of are the lack of co-op and the basic, tacked on, and overall limited pvp only multiplayer. Ace combat has usually tried new things when it comes to keeping its fan base active with additions to Infinity, Full campaign coop, and varied/mid mission changed objectives in the earlier games. But the seem to have just given up on those ideas completely for AC7. The only unique thing this installment has done was the VR mode that is console locked. Once again leaving PC as a secondary market and it shows itself an afterthought in the eyes of major Japan based markets.
Still, regardless of poor marketing all around, AC7 is an strong flowing and quality Core game in the Ace combat series. Pick it up on a damn good sale, and enjoy accidentally slamming your multi-million dollar jet into the side of an mountain, all from the comfort of your living room.

Needless to say, this game is a masterpiece. It’s indeed a commendable job by Bandai Namco that they’ve done a considerable amount of research. Instead of writing a lengthy review, I would keep this short and simple by segregating into pros and cons.
P.S- I haven’t ever tried the multiplayer here so can’t comment about it.
PROS-
1. Stunning graphics and visuals. Not gonna lie, I felt in love with this. The different variants of environments, from oceans to forests to mountains to cities and what not.
2. Great optimization. You don’t really need a beefy PC to run this game.
3. Crazy yet entertaining storyline, albeit might be boring for some players.
4. A vast arsenal of fighter jets with multiple opportunities for customization. You don’t need to grind a lot for unlocking all the jets. Most of the jets exist in the real world except a few which are experimental and imaginary.
5. Not a typical flight simulator game, however would even entertain casual gamers. Flight mechanics are pretty simple and ain’t clunky. Playing in the controller is more fun but it’s easy to play with the keyboard after a little practice. No big deal.
All things have a negative side as well just like 2 sides of a coin, so...
CONS:-
1. Missions were interesting and great. However at some point of time I felt sort of repetitive with different environments. It’s not a serious issue though.
2. Characters involved in the game are forgettable, spare the main protagonist. Voice acting wasn’t that good in my opinion.
3. Not very impressed with the DLC missions. Could’ve put more onto it.
4. Checkpoint system sucks real big time. Can easily piss off gamers who have little to no patience.
Overall, very enthralling and entertaining. Would definitely recommend to give it a shot. The DLCs were mediocre in my opinion however the game is worth it.
8.8/10
Thank you :)
