Avan did his best to ignore the nightmare from the night before. It was something he'd learned to live with - something he'd dealt with since childhood. It was easy to write them off until the pain he'd felt in his dreams followed him into the morning.
The young man holds his aching hand as he makes his way to the watchtower he'd been summoned to. A little girl was found dead in the woods outside the city early that morning. Her body was covered in black blood, a sign that something sinister lurks outside the city walls. A number of reports on the Guard Captain's desk suggest she's just one of many victims. Against the wishes of the Lord, Avan is tasked with investigating the scene where the young girl's body was found. The night before he was set to depart, two strange figures visited his dreams. They came with an eerie message:
"Executioner...your first and your final trial waits for you there...at the temple."
It didn't mean anything. At least not then.
