Über das Spiel

I'm sure the game is great, I've heard really good things about it, but having these kinds of privacy-hostile-for-no-benefit requirements is a non-starter. Not everyone wants to be social when they play games, or give up their personal details and compute power just so Rockstar can flood them with spam.

CONs: It won't FKing launch!!!
I've been going back and forth with Rockstar Support for over a month trying get this game to work. After a dozen or so hours troubleshooting, I decided to give up. Requested a refund from Steam, but they won't give me one because the purchase was more than two weeks ago. It only took so long because I've been trying to get the game to launch. I paid for something that doesn't work. That's theft.
SUMMARY: Fk Rockstar. Fk Steam.

Completely unplayable on modern systems. The application straight-up refuses to open, crashes even if you can get it running, is capped at <30fps and breaks physics if you unlock it, runs poorly, etc etc etc. It's been like this for years, Rockstar Support does not care. They just want your money.
I love LA Noire, but the PC version is completely broken and is an utter waste of your time and money. If you really want to experience the game, pick up a physical copy for the original consoles, or play the remastered version on the PS4/Switch. Or even just watch a no-commentary playthrough on Youtube, since this game is basically a movie anyway...
Edit: To elaborate, the worst part is that this game used to work just fine before they forced their stupid proprietary launcher on everyone. Something with their in-game integration efforts broke the executable, and the only alleged fix is to install unverified third-party registry edits (lol no). I have a box on my shelf (I bought this at retail when it first came out) for a product that is permanently unusable because of the publisher's greed. Watch a playthrough if you need to see how the story ends, otherwise save your money and skip this. Don't give a greasy corporation your hard-earned cash for a product you can't even use.

The real issue, at least for me, is the fact that a game from 11 years ago, having a 30fps lock which cannot be unlocked in-game. I know, classic Rockstar at this point, they really really care for their PC ports (!) but still the fact that I even had to look up an unofficial patch for this game to make it run at an acceptable framerate on a decently modern and capable hardware is laughable. It is nor Rockstar's or the developers' fault but the scare I got after I gave 30-something hours of my life to a game to only realize in a mission that there is a bug which literally blocks me from proceeding with a mission -contrary to what I thought before my quick and hectic Google search feeling angry and miserable thinking how stupid I am for sinking this much time into this game just to get stuck at this point, because of a minor, stupid, unpatched bug, so close to the end- caused by the patch I've installed was unlike any other.
It's not a classic or a masterpiece by any means but offers a quality and enjoyable experience especially if you dig the late 40s-early 50s aesthetics and everything that comes alongisde -minus the racism and sexism of course- but it is not stable or modernized at all, so I guess, Buyer Beware as the game unintenionally and ironically puts it.

for Red Dead Redemption 2, and bought an Xbox to play Red Dead Redemption 1. RDR2 is the best pc game I have ever played.
I have been a fan of detective novels by Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, and Higashino Keigo for more than ten years. Unlike any of the GTA-type games made by Rockstar, L.A. Noire creates a world for us to play as policemen other than criminals.
As a player in China, I hope that Rockstar Game could add Chinese subtitles for not only L.A. Noire but also GTA4 and Red Dead Redemption. So more Chinese players can enjoy these amazing games.
It seems very wired, the pages for L.A. Noire on Rockstar social club are in Chinese, but the game does not.

If you want to play this game in 60fps you will need to download something first:
Download the latest version of V-Patch from https://github.com/VaanaCZ/LANVP/releases/
Extract the downloaded zip file
Simply drag and drop dinput8.dll into the game folder (same location as LaNoire.exe)
That's it!
The things i loved the most about this game were the facial expressions..and based on them, you would figure out if the suspect is either telling the truth or he is lying.
GREAT GAME. You should buy it! (BTW if you don't have your 69IQ or above, don't even consider buying this game,it would be a real headache :))) ...jk)

L.A. Noire on the surface is a fantastic package, especially with how authentic they keep it to the 1940's vibe. Rockstar are incredible at creating worlds that look believable and thematic with their time pieces and this is no slouch with that. You'll be working as a detective working on different crime cases dealing in traffic, homicide, vice, and theft. As you progress further into the story, elements of Phelps past fighting in WW II begin to play a pivotal role as well as many characters you begin to meet starting on the Vice cases. I loved working out the cases in this game and what really ended up being phenomenal was the underlying story.
The questioning and trying to read people is a great addition and again, something you don't really see in video-games of this nature. Collecting evidence, finding clues, making subtle reads on people. Voice acting is top-notch as is the dialogue of this game. The relationships Phelps builds with each new partner he makes or hell, even the characters you interact with during cases are all believable and for the most part, very well voiced and convincing. Facial animations for their time were unseen before and while it can look silly, you gotta admire how far they went using this technology even if some faces look rather dopey due to poor performance. I'll admit too, despite the gunplay feeling so old, I found it enjoyable to go after some perps and pop some lead into them during action sequences. It's just a shame action is pretty rare in this game. The car chases as well were always a joy trying to ram them off the road even if they all played out relatively the exact same way.
As much as I enjoyed this game, there's a ton wrong with it and I'll start off with the most obvious. Optimization for this game, even in 2011, was absolute crap. Even in 2011, forcing a game like this to only run at 30 fps is a crime in itself that Phelps should be on the case for. Numerous bugs and glitches plagued this game for me as well. A chase sequence where I couldn't jump forcing a restart of the game, ugly sun rays peeking through buildings making the soon look like it came out of teletubbies, an awful white flashing light that mysteriously only appeared looking behind you while it was raining or night time. Often cars would disappear mid drive, and is it just me or is the AI in this game awful at driving too? This game also has possibly the absolute worst pop-up textures I've seen in a PC game to date. It could be due to age but I've yet to see pop-in texture this bad on any title I've played so far in all my games. It's a fucking mess! That's putting it lightly as I could go for ages on its issues.
While I don't mind as much, I have to admit as far as gameplay goes, there isn't actual much gaming going on. Action sequences rarely show up and the side activities are just not worth doing as they're 5 min excursions that waste time entirely and are the same rehashed sequences over and over. A large portion of this games genuine loop is driving from Point A to Point B to interrogate or question somebody and look for clues. That's all fine and dandy of course but what about the open world? It is an open world game right? It is, but it's absolutely pointless. Outside of missions there is nothing to do in this but find hidden vehicles really. It's the first time I thought to myself what was the reason for ever making this game open world? It's a common and deserved critique of this game. Gunplay does feel outdated, certain cases can be flat out a boring case (aka most of Traffic), and just like other Rockstar games you see a pattern in every combat scenario or big action sequence. It all plays out relatively the same. Lastly, I do not for any reason understand why this game doesn't really give a story to tell until half way through the game. The only story it gives you is constant WWII flashbacks that really don't start adding up until you reach the Vice cases 10 hrs into the game. It's a shame because I know many people will put it down before experiencing the great story it has on offer.
In conclusion, it's a phenomenal game that is definitely marred by bad optimization and outdated systems (sadly some systems rockstar has never left behind to this day). It can feel like a slog at times as the opening half of this game is a slow burn to the core, but if you can stick through it or find detective work to be a unique plot/setting to use, you'll discover a title that is truly unique. It may not be for everyone, but in all seriousness I'm glad I got to play it and that it exists.

- Interesting plot and 'detective' work.
- Moderately good movement although may get caught on minor obstacles etc...
- Poor control in action events - e.g. fighting is lacklustre
- Good graphics
Warning though - the latest patch is terrible - 1.6 GB to lock you into using Rockstar launcher that wipes local saves - would have recommended if this was not included

While I found the majority of the cases well-done and engaging, they are not very challenging, since the protagonist does the majority of the heavy-lifting when it comes to solving the cases. To me, this was not a problem, since I just wanted to soak in the atmosphere, the story, and the acting above anything else, but this is something to keep in mind.
If you have watched films like L.A. Confidential and Chinatown, and consider them between your favourites, you cannot go wrong by playing L.A. Noire. The game is heavily influenced by those films, and noir films in general. As I said previously, the game truly matches the atmosphere of those films, which is a high compliment.
That said, the game is far from perfect: the pacing of the main story is not good unfortunately. Also, due to the rushed nature of the development, they had to remove parts of the game that would have made the motivations of some characters much more believable. In general, the game is kind of repetitive, so I don't recommend binging it. Just play one or two cases per day, take breaks between each new promotion, and you will be fine.
All in all, L.A. Noire is quite a unique game, as nothing has come close to even try doing the same thing with this kind of scope. Even with all its drawbacks, L.A. Noire is for sure a game worth experiencing.

Max Payne 3
GTA 4
GTA 5
LA Noire
Why? Because all these games I legally bought years ago are tied to an email address that hasn't existed for years, so I can't verify anything! I tried before when it happened to GTA 5 but customer services were worst than useless in helping me change this out of date email address.
Now made worse by the forced update from Steam to only allow me to play via their own rubbish DRM platform, so today I've lost Max Payne 3 as well as LA Noire, i'm not going to waste time trying to get Rockstar to update my email address. They had me jumping hoops before with no resolution so what's the point?
For Rockstar games, i'll go back free games like the old days. I'll never pay for another of their games again. I've been waiting for ages to buy RDR2 but due to what I went through with GTA 4 and 5 I have been put off, now i'm never going to waste my time with anything that forces this ridiculous situation on paid customers.

1. The discontinuous playing experience
THIS is the main point why I dont wanna play the whole game L.A. Noire, however, I know that playing a role as a detective need to find clues as well as question those people who look like suspect. BUT in this game, it happened so frequently that really annoyed me greatly. For instance, you find some crucial clues which lead you to the PLACE A, then you get there, questioning, new PLACE B, then drive to the place B, questioning, then the next clues may indicate you need to going back to PLACE A or new areas. Driving scenes are too much that make me feel extremely bad and bored while playing L.A. Noire.
That is too much to say though, I just list the scenario that I hate most.
2. Limited logic reasoning
About this point, first I want to indicate that me myself may not love such type of playing,
Nevertheless, in L.A. Noire, there is only one answer that you cant make any possible ratiocination to effect the case's result or story and something else.
Well, it just a linear story game but I prefer that as a player we can have more choices to do my own conclusion, this is my view to play as a detective in a game, it may be more fun.
In addition, most of the time you gonna observer the facial expression to choose the right action to question the suspect. I get tired of this.
3. Some cases are really annoying ( cases that are too ordinary )
Positive
1. A fascinating 1940s background
2. Creative narrative
3. Amazing facial motion capture
4. Being a detective

Game excels at detection and story telling. Some of the clues can be a bit too obscure to link to an accusation, and some times reading the facial clues is a bit hit and miss but its all worth the effort. And Phelps going berserk when you just want to tell someone you doubt their opinion is never not funny. Game ran fine, had 2 crashes in 25 hours. I want a sequel. 8/10

The Good:
Just driving through LA (which you will do a lot of) is astounding in itself. The game is absolutely great to look at. The technology used seems enormous even today and that's really important when so much of the game is the ambiance, the visual details, the feel of driving through 1940s LA. The gameplay is original and the storyline is fascinating. Your fellow characters have real depth and so does your primary protagonist and the city itself. The world is dirty, corrupt, greedy, harsh, sad, all the things the world of Ellroy needs to be and it pulls no punches. There are no heroes here but that doesn't mean they're all villains either. The content is very large for a linear, story-driven game. Lots of cases, lots of societal aspects covered and unapologetically unfolded before us, lots of nasty little secrets to uncover. If you ever felt drawn to the world of true noire detectives, this is for you.
The Bad:
A few times, the game mechanic used during suspect interviews can feel a little arbitrary - that what you expect something to mean isn't what is actually meant by accusing a certain person of something at a specific time. Sometimes the game and the player will misunderstand each other which will lead to the player quitting and replaying a segment and feeling annoyed because he expected a different outcome from an action than the game presented and the player had no way of anticipating this. It isn't always exactly clear what the consequences will be from selecting a specific dialogue but most of the time it works. The facial animation can still seem slightly outdated (or very) but you can recognize the actors and the acting itself is top notch.
Do not buy this game if you're looking for a new GTA, also do not buy if you don't like stories and want pure action. But if you like stories, noire literature/film, Ellroy, just trying something a bit new to gaming, you HAVE to play this game. Very rewarding, extremely well done. This game was cared for down to its smallest detail, I hope someday we'll see more like this game but unfortunately Team Bondi passed away. As we know game industry is cruel:/

That is not because the game is bad. The game itself is very good, perhaps even approaching the level of a masterpiece.
It is simply because the game doesn't work.
I'm running on a Ryzen 7 5800x, RTX 3070 and 32GB DDR4. The game would not launch without a registry fix (easily found online), and even now I have experienced a crash owing to memory allocation.
It is poorly optimised. It doesn't look great, and owing to a lack of modding tools - and the fact that most people accept the game as-is and are not willing to see it change, even if for the better - the community hasn't and likely won't ever try to change that. And for that reason I think the game shouldn't be listed for sale without any warning that it may not work correctly. Because it likely won't for you.
Rockstar, please. Fix your game.

If you're looking to this game thinking you would get a lot of action oriented gun fight like Max Payne and some ridiculous crime plot twist like Sherlock Holmes then you're into it wrong. Fairly, parts of what I examples where still there. It just doesn't go over the top. The approach tried to be slow & realistic as possible as it could. Hence, this might be the most true to life like gameplay Rockstar produced hardly ahead of Red Dead.
A follow up felt slim to none. Mostly like because how this kind of genre's audience is not the mainstream as what usually Rockstar aiming to. Added to that were the production cost and the hellwork happened at the Australian studio's Team Bondi.
ɢʀᴀᴘʜɪᴄs:
Hearing the title L.A. Noire would first remind you the advance features that used in the game called motion scanned that give NPC's expression to make your interview feel as natural within reach. And yes, It is really advance. I've never encountered so much emotion from an NPC's that you'll never see again for the rest of the game.
I can't really tell how's the city is because driving is mainly optional other than chase scene. Which led this to be the most forgettable open world Rockstar made for me. However, talking about Interior is a different thing, You can just feel the classical fashioned design of each structure. Also, those shoe footsteps on different kind of floor is just pleasing noise to my ear.
Just wanted to pointed out that there's a lot of Mad Men cameo's here including the protagonist. Also Micah from RDR2 was here.
Also last thing but not the least, Starting the game would introduced you to a locked 30FPS, There's a fix here on PCGamingWiki called Widescreen fixed. A program that let you unlocked more than 30 frames per second and other things. Just follow the instruction and you are ready to go.
ɢᴀᴍᴇᴘʟᴀʏ:
The game mainly revolve a lot on the Interrogation part and finding clues which helps you connect the leads and nails the right question. It looks complicated at the start, But the things is, The choices Doubt and Lie is just the same. Picking Doubt is just another form of telling them they're lying, but without you having proof.
I recommend that you set the music cue on setting where it will stop once the clues are all found. I've been scattering around the crime scene thinking I missed something half way through the game, until I noticed that I got all the clues and the music just automatically won't turn off in the settings. First person mode could also help a lot, but I guess they straight ahead skip that and just release the VR version.
Driving is a meh. I don't know if they just tried to be true to what the handle of cars at the 40's but it was horrible. Luckily, you have a partner who could also be your designated driver. Which when the game introduced me that, It just became the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes where your only option is going places to places by fast traveling.
The realistic body count really cutoff my inner John Wick bloodlust on a gunfight. I think that's why they put the Street Crimes so the game could recover for all that short fight you have on the main case. There's nothing really to do in the world other than finding some landmarks, vehicles and some few collectibles.
sᴛᴏʀʏ:
Throughout the story, You'll been put to a four different desk, which let you have an investigative work on different kind of crimes. Most of it is connected to those militant that joined the war just a few years taking the game place in. A second playthrough also could help clear things upon some confusing random details the story left behind. (I watched it in my case)
Working on Homicide is one of my favorite detective work out of all desks, Being a fan of the show Mindhunter really helps to appreciate that part of the game.
I just don't like that there's a big part of the game where you been lead to catch a framed suspect and it was very infuriating since I caught that very early to what the story is supposed to let you to know.
I also quite hate it when someone, whether guilty or not, important to the case or not, will use ANY and ALL opportunities to lie to you for no real apparent reason. I guess it just to exercise the mechanics but still annoying sometimes.
There's a chunk of inserted conversation that's somehow controversial in recent times. Based on the year, I expected a lot of racist remark which is a joke compared to many dismissed pedophilia that's been going around the story.

The Good
Good balance of gameplay and interesting cases.L.A. Noire features some interesting variety for the main cases, ranging in Traffic, Murder, Drug Trafficking and Arson. All while having a developing story of something else going on in the streets of Los Angeles and around Phelps’ war buddies. The way it’s handled, I’m surprised they haven’t done a TV series with this, cause it can feel like you’re a part of one at times.
As far as gameplay goes, it has a good balance of investigations for clues, interrogations and the odd elements where you either chase down suspects or get into a shootout against a group of criminals. In a way, the variety keeps players on their toes, since it’s not always clear what to expect next while working on the cases.
The Bad
Some collectibles are not really worth going after. There are a few items that you can find and collect during your investigations and drive-by. Finding all the different vehicles that you can drive is one that I liked the most, especially when you can find hidden vehicles that feel rewarding to drive with.
On the flip side, there are some collectibles that not only are hard to find, but don’t feel as rewarding. Those collectibles I’m referring to are the Golden Film Reels and Police Badges. As far as I know, there’s no rewards for collecting them all, besides giving you experience, but it’s easy to get experience and you cap at level 20, so unless you’re going for 100%, it’s not worth collecting them all.
The Ugly
Free Roam can get boring after a while. In between cases or from the main menu, you can choose to go into Free Roam, which simply lets you roam the streets of Los Angeles. This is a good chance to get a glimpse of the city in the 1940s recreated as best as possible by the developers.
Now, this spectacle does wear out it’s welcome when you realize there’s nothing else to do in Free Roam. You’ll have the street cases available to do, but you can do those while doing other major cases. If there were any side activities that you could do, it might make Free Roam feel more useful.
Considering that this game was released 9 years ago, the game is still great to play and experience to this day. My negative sections are more mixed remarks than bad ones. If you want a different kind of story telling experience, with a focus on solving crimes, pick this game up and enjoy it.

Story:
You play as Cole Phelps. Coming back from World War 2, he joins the police as an officer, but after solving a murder case, he gets promoted to Detective status and solves various cases for Traffic, Arson and Homicide desks.
Each case of the game acts as it's own story, while a larger story plays out over time, involving a conspiracy which you as Phelps tries to solve and not to mention the story of Phelps himself as he goes deeper into the underbelly of L.A. The story itself is really good and the writing is absolutely top notch, which is important cause you have to pay a ton of attention to dialogue to look for lies and inconsistent stories your suspects will tell you.
Most of the cases are well written, but I feel the overarching story is rather bland. It seems intriguing at first, but the final comes off as rushed with an ending that could be considered lazy by many. It just sort of ends, with many loose ends tied up quite loosely.
Graphics:
One thing the game is known for is it's facial motion capture tech, which was described as the most advanced at the time. I do admit a lot of the time the faces reach the uncanny valley territory, a lot of the faces look too real, but fake at the same time. It mostly shows during the meme worthy moments where people lie to you and start making facial expressions that make it seem like they are constipated instead of trying to lie to you.
The graphics themselves still hold up very well. The world looks great and there's a ton of detail put into it so it reflects L.A. in the 40s. There's a ton of vehicles that roam the streets and they all look great and there's tons of different locations you visit over your investigations. Not to mention going sight seeing L.A. landmarks which is a ton of fun to do, so if you find yourself wanting to explore there's definitely a ton of stuff to see.
Audio:
The music mimics the era really well, there's a ton of great tracks ranging from intense on foot or car chases, shootouts and quiet ambient tracks when you're walking around crime scenes looking for evidence. There's even a little jingle every time you find a major piece of evidence which is a cool audio cue to know you're on the right track.
The voice acting is also absolutely top notch. Every actor does an absolutely amazing job in portraying a wide range of emotions, most of them deliver the audio so clearly you can sometimes tell if a character is lying, just because of how a line is delivered by them. It's rare that a character will deliver a line poorly throwing you off, but these moments are so far and few between that it doesn't really become a problem.
Gameplay:
L.A. Noire is a combination of a third person cover shooter, open world sandbox and detective game. There's not many games (if any) that are just like it. After the LAPD section of the game where you learn the basics, the game throws you into the main desks where the actual games begin. At the start of each case, you get a brief explanation, drive to the crime scene and look around for evidence writing down everything you see to be able to use later.
Your investigations lead to other locations where you might encounter a suspect spotted at the crime scene, or someone that had a motive. When talking to people you ask them a question, you hear them out and then you can call out their lie, doubt their claim or agree that they tell the truth. Truth and Doubt you can claim without any evidence, but for lie you need a piece of evidence to prove that the person is lying to make them confess.
You learn early on, about facial expressions of the character, so for example if a character is lying they will never look at you or just glance at you, doubt will make them look around their environments and barely pay attention to you and truth they will look directly at you, without doing any of the former. This works fine for the most part, but a lot of the time it might be really hard to tell if a character is lying cause it might look like they are not looking anywhere making you feel they're telling the truth, but in reality they are trying to hide the truth. You really need to pay attention to every bit to the conversation to be able to spot the truth.
Usually when you're driving from location to location, you have quite a distance to go and since you're a cop sometimes dispatch will call you up and tell you to go to location to look into a crime happening and these are short 2 to 3 minute cases to break up the tedium of the longer cases you are usually doing.
The combat includes a combination of hand to hand combat and gun fights. The hand to hand combat in my opinion is just flat out bad. It's usually just punch, punch, punch until a guy falls down. It feels really tedious and honestly it's sometimes possible to avoid it, if you somehow get a suspect to stop earlier in a chase, but it's a rare thing to happen and you'll be fighting them. The gun combat is very barebones, but works fine enough, the guns control fine enough and the shooting feels decent, but it's not anything special.
Verdict:
L.A. Noire is unlike any detective game on the market and it's honestly quite the treat to play. Most of the cases are great and a ton of fun to figure out. Exploring L.A. in the 40s is also a treat and there's just a ton of stuff for you to do. For some the game might get boring since there's a small variety between cases. I've also heard some people having trouble running the game on their systems, but I didn't encounter any problems while playing. Overall L.A. Noire is a great game and if you want a great detective game, check it out.
Final Rating:
8.5/10
Pros:
+ Gameplay is incredibly unique
+ 40s L.A. is recreated amazingly well
+ Voice acting is top notch
Cons:
- Overarching story is rather bland
- Not much variety between major cases

Before I criticise lets look at the positives of the game itself.
L.A Noire is a fantastic game, dont get me wrong. I played it previously on the xbox 360 and now on PC. It gives an alternative perspective from most games with the chance to play as Cole Phelps a war hero turned detective in the LAPD in the late 1940s. You climb your way up the ranks by solving cases that include evidence gathering at crime scenes, interrogations, car chases, foot chases and shoot outs. The game is open world which also allows you to assist the LAPD with standard police street crimes and calls. It is a fun game with decent graphics and a amazing facial animations and voice actors. If you have never played it you definitely have to.
HOWEVER, this port onto steam is in shocking condition. The game is filled with bugs and causes lots of crashes. Even with a high spec PC the frame rate is locked at 30fps and the rendering is just poor. This game was designed for consoles and no attempt was made to make it fit for Steam. You will spend more time fixing the game than playing it. As I enjoy L.A Noire it is sad to give a bad review but this version is just not fit for sale.
If you do wish to enjoy the game buy it on a console like it was designed for and actually enjoy it without constant frustration.
Or if you don't have a console or are just stubborn there are lots of topics in the community page to unlock the game allowing you to play in 60fps (albeit turning all cars into scenes from Tokyo drift as they lose control) as well as lots of help to get the game working
Sadly I cannot recommend this game on PC

A noir thriller set in Los Angeles which includes a lot of decisions and well, investigation.
Exploring the city of L.A. is great, just don't expect anything as involved as GTA.
The facial expressions of the characters are still some of the best, although Cole is an annoying protagonist who tends to react in a bipolar unexpected way, and is quite unlikeable, but that ruin your experience with the story.
This is really one of those games that everyone should play, especially if you like this type of game.

Game is relatively easy and mechanics become familiar quickly. Interrogations are most fun. Definitely a different, rather chill game. Perfect with a beer or a drink. Length is just spot on as well as further on it could become tedious.
Take your time, breathe in, immerse yourself to the atmosphere and enjoy as you're probably only going to play LA Noire once.

It crashes if I use DX11 and if I don't execute Steam as admin. It crashes every time I close it, runs at 30fps and if I use the .ini patch to make it work at 60fps I get frame drops (which makes it unplayable), and this is why I'm gonna refund.
Waste of time and money. Better pirate it, it's better than giving rockstar money for something that barely works.

Though I have not played any Sherlock Holmes games, however this is one of the best detective game to me. This is Team Bondi's first and last game and yeah, they nailed it. Here are some pros and cons -
Pros :
- The story, Damn....Based on some real life stories.
- 1947 America....I am always fascinated by the golden age of America....I wish I were there.
- Motion Capture...Damn..You will be surprised seeing suspect's expression when they are lying.
- The Cars. I am not a car enthusiast but all those classic cars give me chills
- The game texture was great
- 40 Street Crimes aka side missions.....Each of them is too short but fun
- Press 2 to 'Doubt'....lol
- So Many clues....You need them to interrogate people
- You need high patience. If you are an adult but you don't have the patience, this is not for you.
- Bang for buck....Get this on a sale
Cons :
- Fu**ing social club. I just hate this crap.
- You may not load your save if you are not logged in to the social crap. I had to face some issues.
- Unoptimized...You may not even open the game in your high rig. There is a simple way for 1st timers to open the game.
- I had to face several crashes...Damn
- Several Glitches
- Capped at 30 fps. If you manage to uncap, then some missions will break AFAIK.
- The Graphics is not that good compared to GTA 4 though the texture was great.
- Patience. Yes it's a pro as well as a con.
- PS4 & XBOXone has remaster but PC doesn't...WTF...
That's all I can remember...
My Verdict - 8.5/10
I really wish I could have been there at the Golden Age...The Hollywood, the pretty ladies having those hairstyles, Damn....not the girls of this age....xD.......Thank you for your time...Hope you are well in this pandemic...

It's a masterpiece in my opinion and also underrated game as a lot of people say
Great story, playing as Cole Phelps in various departments of LAPD throughout the entire story
Great Gameplay
Finding clues, (better with controller with the vibration on)
Interrogating suspects (funny facial expressions)
You can drive or you can let your partner drive and skip the ride
Graphics are good considering it's an old game (best played @4k)
Great music i loved it, even the voice acting is good, Dialogues are cool
I really wish for a sequel as good as this game
There's a lot i'd like to say about this game but i'm a lazy person
For those who can't run, it's really simple install the direct-x for this game and run it as admin

I tried
-Administrator mode
-Compatibility mode
-Registry fixes
-Opting out of betas
-Verifying game caches
-Re-installing (Many times)
-Updating DirectX and other needed software
-Manually re-installing Rockstar Social Club
R* is scummy for allowing this game to still be sold when many people can't play it on one of the most common OS, and Steam is scummy for not deleting this game off of Steam to prevent anyone from buying a game that doesn't work

L.A. Noire
- LA Noire is one of those unique experiences that show up once in a decade, redefining the genre, the way in which games are viewed by the general public, and creating a rich and emotionally strong background for the story itself. You play as Detective Cole Phelps, a war hero who is now working for the LAPD in a quest to serve justice and help those in need. The game starts with Phelps as a simple uniformed patrolman, but as you work your way up the cases you'll get promoted to desks like Homicide, Arson, Traffic, or Vice, leading to more complex cases and intriguing stories. The main story is the one of Cole Phelps, which is tied to the events from the war, as the game will do a decent job reminding you from time to time using flashbacks that in the end tie together with the present events to create an amazing and emotionally powerful storyline.
Story
Apart from the main story, each case that you get involved in has its own story that's a pleasure to follow as finding the one responsible for the murder of innocent people or the distribution of morphine is totally up to you and your detective skills. Crime scenes are recreated into the game in a believable and realistic way, making each clue that you find at the scene important in solving the mystery as you'll often need proof to accuse someone or make them testify and help you solve the case.
- The city of Los Angeles is beautifully recreated to the smallest detail, providing a full-sized version of the city as it was in 1947, with rich environments and key landmarks that will make you feel as you were in LA for real. From the guns to the characters and the stories, this smells like 1947 from miles away, integrating you into that scenery from the first moments you step into the game and constantly keeping you there with the ingenuity and drama of each case that is brought to you.
- Starting with your partners from each desk that you'll be reassigned to where characters like Roy or Galloway steal the show with their unique personalities that come alive into the game due to the unbelievable realism and ending with less important characters like each of the suspects in your case or even the victims, all of the characters have their exact place in LA Noire, and it has never felt so real. Apart from the main story which includes over 20 different cases, there are also 40 different secondary missions that come presented as emergency calls as you'll be informed about them via the police channel, allowing you to set them as your new destination and get away from the cases routine for a while. LA Noire tells so many stories that it's hard even to remember them all, starting with each case or quick event that usually has suspects and victims and ending with stories like Cole's war conflicts or the stories in the newspapers that are meant to explain some of the events from the main story a little further.
Gameplay
LA Noire's is unique, as it gives you full control over the outcome of dialogue and of the case itself; using motion capture technology, characters have realistic facial expressions, allowing you to read those expressions and see if they're telling the truth, having doubts or lying according to the tension from their faces. A stressed character from the pressure of lying to a policeman will be visible and detectable if you train your eye, while a character telling the truth will usually be calm and straight forward when answering a question. This mechanic opens up a new gate to gameplay, as each deduction will have an outcome in the case since the statement of a character can be used as a clue to find another, a testimony to put a suspect in jail or even as a proof against that same character.
- The other unique thing that makes LA Noire a believable detective experience is the clue searching, as most of the locations you visit will have a certain number of clues that you can discover, helping you solve the case easier or get to a new location or another person; All of the information regarding the case can be accessed from Cole's notebook, displaying your information about suspects, locations and clues that you find at any time using the Back button.
- Driving is another important factor of LA Noire, as you'll need a car to travel from a location to another of the city, especially since the entire city is recreated in the game, but if you're not the driving type you can make your partner drive for you instead.
Graphics
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8j1TEwgqCY] L.A. Noire - PC vs PS4 Graphics Comparison
- The 1947 city of LA was created in full scale, bringing even the smallest roads and alleys into the game for you to explore and opening up amazing possibilities for each case to unfold as you'll travel all across the city through the story. The car damage effects are astonishing and realistic, making driving safely an important part of the LAPD cop, as apart from the moral duty of protecting the property, a damaged car will function less efficiently and each penny that you cost the state will be deducted from you at the end of the case, resulting in a lower number of stars.

Conclusion
- LA Noire is without a doubt an experience worth having, as you have never played anything like it before; there isn't much to do after the main story is over, but the road there is simply a blast, presenting you with dozens of different stories told through all of Phelps' actions, an unique gameplay experience that is only possible using the game's motion capture technology and a cast of characters that will remain with you for years, as their personalities managed to shine even in the lowest moment of the game and bring a new wave of excitement to the player.

As I mentioned I have thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay thus far from looking for clues, straight to the (many!) interrogations, chasing suspects on foot or by car—and ultimately ending up in a big shootout every once in a while. There are also various collectibles for you to hunt down and collect when roaming around the city—including unique, hidden cars. Speaking of cars, this game features a LOT of driving from A to B (take the GTA series for reference) so that's something to be aware of.
As for the story, I am currently nearing the halfway mark and while the gameplay and story structure might seem repetitive, every new case continues to feel refreshing and intriguing in its very own way. The world is filled with fascinating stories, mysteries and characters. Some you'll love, some you'll despise, but they all manage piquing your interest nonetheless. Each gameplay session has so far ended with excitement and a sense of accomplishment, big or small! Carefully seeking out and inspecting all clues and solving cases with as few mistakes as possible, or even perfectly, is very satisfying.
Unfortunately there IS a downside to these otherwise well-crafted gameplay interrogations with suspects and victims which can lead to pretty frustrating moments. The game features 3 options for you to choose from during interrogations: Truth, Doubt and Lie. The problem here, however, is the at times completely mismatched interpretation of what YOU are trying to convey using either one of these options and how that ends up TRANSLATING into the game. ''Doubt'' is the most unpredictable option of all. You might select it in order to try and get more information out of the person you're questioning when they are clearly withholding part of the truth while stating what they just told you is all they know. You're therefore doubting that is all there is to it, but do not yet know what exactly it is they are keeping from you. You can't select ''lie'' to accuse them of lying, because you do not possess said evidence yet. ''Truth'' doesn't seem right either, because you already know they are not being 100% truthful with you. ''Doubt'' seems to be the only logical option, right? Sadly, the term ''doubt'' in these cases does not mildly or even forcefully express doubt as you intended but ends up with the protagonist trying to accuse said person of something completely different, often far-fetched, and even in an agressive and threatening manner. This then counts as a mistake. It can be very misleading. Similar scenarios apply to ''truth'' and ''lie'' as well, but ''doubt'' undoubtedly takes the throne.
This has thus far been my only real issue with the game since I personally refrain from using guides. If you do choose to use guides, however, this should (thankfully!) not be an issue for you.
For now I am looking forward to seeing where the story ends up taking me. I will update this review if I've got more to add upon finishing the game.

Rant:
A very interesting game. Comes with full VA but sometimes the dialogue feels a bit uncalled for (as in, Phelps suddenly acts very aggressive even though previous exchange was relatively smooth lol). I get what they are going for with the game mechanics, but it's not very... convincing. It might have been better if they showed partial dialogue of what Phelp was going to say instead.
Aside from the launch issue (had to run Steam as admin) and FPS issue (adjustable if you do some googling), it's a solid game definitely worth the money. Game control is pretty responsive and controller-friendly. Just had to get used to some weird physics if manually forcing the game to 60 FPS.
Story is decent. The ending feels a bit rushed. I like how there are idle dialogues. Makes the world feels less stiff.

I'm 2 seconds from getting my money back. I'm not social. In fact I hope you all die in this pandemic to make room on the freeways. So, as a crumudgeony old F%$K that just wants to play a game, I can not recommend this game.

If you're looking for a GOOD detective game then this is it, there's not a lot of them around. The game is extremely underrated and the DLC is very good.

- The sound effects and music perfectly fit the 1940s theme of the game.
- Facial motion capture.
- Once reaching the rank of detective, the game encourages you to use your own initiative and figure the case out for yourself. This helps in making you feel like an actual detective, rather than someone just playing as one.
- Giving you a partner like Bekowsky for your first taste as a detective was a good choice. Bekowsky is the most likable partner you'll get until you reach the Arson cases so he really helps draw in the player's interest at the beginning.
- The Quarter Moon Murders case is one of the most intense and immersive missions in any Rockstar release.
- All of the Vice and Arson cases were compelling which was convenient since promotions went from feeling refreshing to repetitive by this point in the game.
- Your time in the Arson department with your partner Biggs and war comrade Kelso is a reminder that not all great men are always in the spotlight and not all great employees are successful in the end.
THE CONS
- While the facial motion capture was immersive and helped with questioning, the faces just looked ridiculous at times.
- Object inspection can be awkward when trying to find the right angle.
- Balancing on beams is not as responsive as it could be.
- Civilians literally see Cole driving towards them at high speeds in pursuit of a suspect and they just run straight into the car... this is beyond annoying if you're trying to get 5 star ratings. You're basically having to pick between sucking it up or quitting out and reloading your last save for the 5 star.
- While I enjoyed the Arson cases, at times I felt like this portion of the story was being rushed to the finish line. This feeling was particularly strong during the last mission when Cole gets carried away by the current, the scene didn't feel authentic at all; it looked forced.
With the direction of Team Bondi, Rockstar successfully managed to create an immersive and mature neo-noir detective game that by the end of the story has the player thinking about power dynamics and human behaviour.
I'd highly recommend L.A. Noire if you enjoyed the likes of any of the following: Murdered: Soul Suspect, Heavy Rain, The Sinking City or The Witcher 3.
8/10

If you really do want to try it, don't launch it through steam. Find the games file and run the application as administrator. (This apparently has been an issue since 2016, DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO IMPROVE OR BE FIXED)
Than enjoy being forced to make a Rockstar Social account. Bonus points if it tells you that your email address already exists and you can't use it... For whatever reasons.
Honestly, I can appreciate people liked this game and it may be of some value. But the optimization hasn't aged well. Any game that forces so many technical failures before one can actually play it fully automatically gets a shit rating from me. If you don't want a headache from having to figure out how to actually run the game... Save your money for something else

I'm still conserned that this is defenetly one of the TOP3 games Rockstar's ever made.
No doubt that we need a sequel. This game is really deep, i really suggest playing it at least twice while on the second playthrough you can concentrate on the dialogs and focus on all the small details.
The soundtrack is just brilliant.
The characters are just perfect.
- I suggest using Widescreen fixer if you want to play this game on 60fps.
- If the game doesnt starts, exit steam and run steam as administrator.
- If you are not a native speaker always have subtitles on.

Overall i think this game is a must buy. Even if its from 2011, you will still defenetly enjoy it.
Best detective/noir game that i've ever played.
Defenetly recommended 10/10
